Great overview. As someone who club raced an old gen Arrma Typhon v2 for a few years I can say it held up well and was competitive. This will be better in every way with the addition of tuning pills for A, B, C , D blocks, more roll Center adjustments, and having stronger aluminum parts. I do wish they had leveraged proline for body and tires, or maybe used horizon’s new AKA aquisition for race rubber, but this RC was likely done development before that happened.
Can't wait to see how this performs on the track. Love TLR products and great to see them crossing over to the Arrma market. Always thought the Typhon would make for a nice track buggy. Great review Greg👍👍
I just got back into RC cars after about 25 years I bought 2 traxxas slash for my son and I to race Mudboss Modified body cars on the oval and I bought a Nitro KRP oval dirt car to race . And got the bash bug and bought a traxxas Xmaxx . I am looking for upgrade ideas for it to make it a better truck what would you recommend. Thank you .
@@rcdriver hey Greg, could you give us the weight, curious to know how much was saved if any . It does have more aluminum turning parts . My typhon stock with a fan is 7.9lbs with battery its 9.1lbs , I was suprised they that heavy but probably why so strong 💪
@@manuenriquez9848 no one said it wasn't. It's just painfully obvious that this is a MILD retool of the DEX8. Just some minor changes to make them "TLR"-ish, and some minor changes to how the pill system works. But for him to say it isn't a DEX8 because the mold now says "ARRMA" is ridiculous. It's a DEX8.

Nobody has done a comparison video yet on this vs it's original. I might do it but nobody would watch my video so 😂 you should compare Typhon 6s vs Typhon 6s tlr tuned
I've said it before, this car was a good idea with bad execution. The chassis just doesn't have the adjustability necessary for racing, even at a club level. Actually, thinking about it, what's up with that? Why are all these new cars coming out with fixed-length upper arms and links? I know it's not a price issue, you still see them on even the entry level cars from Associated and Losi which are priced competitively to comparable ARRMA models.
This is great that horizon is re releasing the Team Durango DEX8. Also for $419 that's a great idea. But they didn't have to slap it with TLR tuned when it's not. But it's good for the hobby to have another race car to choose from in my book.
LOL, just a few hours ago I recorded the intro to Part 2 of this review and addressed that this buggy is not a DEX8. Luckily we reviewed the DEX8 and I was able to compare the two. Towers are different, so they are TLR towers, chassis is different, so its a TLR chassis, pivot blocks are different so they are are TLR… and it goes on. But I do agree it’s nice to have more options!!
Well I look forward to the next vid showing the two side by side. Also hope you might deconstruct the two, to see what parts are interchangeable. That would be cool 😎 for the arrma community. 👍
@@rcdriver So, this has got me looking at other videos about the difference between c-hubs and balls, which is interesting. I guess a better question might be, what is the difference between the Arrma and the Associated B3.2e.
Your timing is awesome, I'm calling my hobby shop this afternoon to order one! Any idea when they're hitting shelves? I say timing is awesome because my local dirt track (indoor/covered) switches to 1/8 scale and oval for the fall/winter. So I've been debating switching one of my TLR 22's to carpet or getting an eight scale. Always like the Typhon but a little too much $$ for just a basher.. and didn't want to build a e-buggy.. man this nails it! I'm really happy with my TLR 22 5.0 Roller, great car out of the box - this is right there. Going to get that pro-line body painted up and hit the track for some fall/winter 8th scale!
I really love the colors. Already love ARRMA & TLR is a sick brand! love the collab! If you want to send this to a new racer, by all means, send it to me 😂 Awesome video!
I love it. No one is saying what the real deal is. Too many expensive TLR products and someone on the sales team got creative and used long inventory to slap something together. Never waste!
So arrma finally figured out how to build stronger cars just put ur body on a different brand haha ??? Hopefully it will come in other colors than nail salon
Is this buggy still available from Arrma? I like the color and graphics. I don’t think it’s a very ideal jumping machine though. Thank you for the video.

Great video, I love my 6s Typhon and just folded the frame. I can't decide to buy another rtr typhon 6s or the tlr roller and put my stock 6s electronics in the tlr. Does anybody have any opinions?
I don't know a lot of racers that bash and vice versa. So why would someone want this vehicle a raser is going to buy a race dedicated buggy in the basher is going to do the same. I like the car but I feel it had an identity crisis. I don't see this running on a track with a x-ray, associated or a tlr dedicated race buggy. For the money if I was a racer I would buy something like a kyosho and if I was a bachelor I'd talion buggy
Having driven both the regular and the tlr there is literally no difference in how they drive. None. And the tlr is not even a fanny's hair faster than the regular version. Not even a shaved fanny's hair for that matter.
Everything look good on this new typhon expect the plastic adjustment black, will that really hold up, overtime plastic will crack, specially with so much metal on a truggy, why tlr and arrma make the adjustment black metal at the beginning??? 🤔 Long-term i think the adjustment black will be a weak spot (that mean a lot of weak spot, specially there are so many adjustment black on this typhon, this will make it weaker then the previous generation.
I don't know, I have mixed feelings about this. While it's a cool idea to introduce racing via a bashing brand with a "Ready to Race" release, I almost feel like Horizon is diluting their portfolio somewhat. They have introduced RTR cars before via the Losi brand, so using one of their brands known more for bashing and speed-running leaves me a bit confused as to their intention with this. At the same time, TLR obviously had to expend resources to aid in the development of this car, just like they've had to for all those licensed Losi vehicles based on the TENacity platform; meanwhile, updates to race vehicles like the 22T and SCT have gone years without updates. Competitors like Team Associated have updated their entries in these classes to the B6 platform, but Horizon won't let TLR touch these due to the "low probability of ROI". Makes me wonder why the other brands move ahead if there's no money in it. Anyway, good luck with this release ARRMA/Horizon... I just hope that TLR doesn't get left behind to just act as some behind the scenes "support brand" that only works on projects like this.
i could see it being worth while as a PNP but over $400 as a pure roller is too much money, I think Arma' might have screwed up on this one, compared to the way it was back in the 80's, RC car racing itself is on life support largely because of the overwhelming complexity for newbie's to get started and the cost to participate, the only reason RC cars as a hobby isn't suffering the same fate is because of companies like arma producing RTR vehicles that newbie's can take out of the box and start running and while a roller is better for a newbie then those mind boggling everything in a bag kits from companies like associated , tlr and xray, you still have the cost and confusion of sourcing all the electronics and radio gear which is still to daunting for the average newbie, arma's claim to fame has been their RTR's, they should stick with what made them successful....
