    Hi, your videos may not get the most amount of views but they for sure have a massive impact on those who watch them, I am one of those people who decided what I want to study at university a bit late and would have greatly appreciated being around academically focused individuals and seeing content like this when I was a bit younger, I am applying to study medicine at Cambridge this year I have done very well in my admission test however my past academics have not been top quality hopefully I get an interview

      Thank you. I am pleased to hear that. What would have helped you find content like this when you were a bit younger? I'd like to know... Having a positive impact on at least some people is my reason for continuing to produce a video per week despite the channel not taking off. Best wishes for your university career!

      @@FrankStajanoExplains Hi, one thing that changed for me recently is exposure to more academically minded people, when i was looking to prepare for my admission test (ucat) i found a server on discord which was focused on it (all of this is 100% free btw).
      there i met a lot of - in my eyes - high achievers, it was a place where all a* at gcse was quite normal and 3k ucat was the standard, being part of a community like that raised my standards and for the first time in my life caused me to take my subjects seriously and work hard. now the community has moved on from ucat and is preparing for medical school interviews and alevels. I explored more and found a cambridge applicant server too where a college - caius schools- answers questions from applicants.
      being part of a very focused group also has given me more exposure to interesting things in medicine ie articles - things i would not have known about had i not been part of this group. being part of a group like this overall has deepened my love for my subjects(alevels and medicine), caused me to work harder and created a love for studying. now that i have been exposed to what is possible I no longer need the group but I certainly attribute the start of my work ethic and ambition to it. i come from an environment (family+ school) where academics is not prioritised and people have - in my opinion now knowing what i have seen in others - quite low standards in study ethic. Cambridge/oxford is seen as a mythical place- something for other people and you are made fun of/ targeted? for aiming to achieve highly- even in my own family it seems like. I imagine it would be extremely hard to change this kind of culture in real life but I believe promotion of online studying groups like the one i found would be great and i wish i had joined something similar sooner as it is the only exposure i have to people academically focused. Being in a culture that promotes hard work and studying is extremely helpful and shows you that going to a place like oxbridge is possible and striving to do so can be enjoyable too. luckily i managed to do well at gcse just from talent in my relevant subjects sciences and maths, however my quite poor work ethic at this stage of my academic career is reflected in less good grades in subjects i was not interested in. I hope to do much better in my alevels. sorry for the yappachino.

    Hi Frank, a few words to hopefully inspire you.
    You are a fabulous ambassador for Cambridge your videos are thoughtful and truly helpful and full of knowledge and tips for prospective students. Your passion for computing will last forever in the memories of viewers present and future, what a wonderful achievement in one’s life worth more than all the money one could earn.

    Maybe professor because not alot of people are interested in the actual stuff of computer science..if you make a video on "how to get into faang" then there will be lots of views, but i love your channel so much that it actually provides the information that i need and not some clickbait content..Thank you so much please continue and yes there will be small group of people that will be following you but they are like true students of yours who genuinely wants to learn from you🤠

    Before I watch this I just wanted to say thank you for the videos youve provided regarding undergraduate dissertations and projects. Compared to my peers in university Im quite inexperienced in computer science and have been very nervous about tackling the undergraduate project I'll do in year 3, but after watching your videos I was able to calm down a bit and take a more measured approach towards the whole thing, Thank you.

    Hi Professor,
    I think why your majority of videos are not getting sufficient views is because of the fact that you provide really VALUABLE CONTENT but in reality many people studying computer science just take this subject as a means to get big pay check from FAANG companies and how to get through the door, they are not at all interested in how beautiful education can be.
    I can certainly say if you share videos about your time at a big tech it will certainly surpass the views and subscribers you currently have.

      People don't want to see the beauties of computer science like data structures and algorithms. They just want to have money out of computer science.

    • @FrankStajanoExplains
      @FrankStajanoExplains  3 місяці тому +1

      Thank you for your suggestion. I could always give this a try... What would you be keen to hear about my time at a big tech? And why would a 20-y-old want to hear it from me, and who was there a long time ago, rather than from someone who looks like them and is there now?

    • @prithvirajsinghchauhan2330
      @prithvirajsinghchauhan2330 3 місяці тому

      A lot of value can be added as you have mentioned you were at big tech long time ago you can mention the facilities you got compare it with today's facilities whether it be paycheck, office tour, etc.. and then reinforce the fact that staying in big tech and reaching to a higher level involves deep subject knowledge than just cramming some DSA courses and investing their time just to pass the interview make this cramming secondary to pass the interviews, you can surely make it given with all the experience you have training some talented candidates.

      @@FrankStajanoExplains I think what would be interesting to see you do, that is kinda related to industry is just a video of you solving leetcode problems, and giving your opinions on them... you could easily make a clickbait title "Cambridge professor solves 100 leetcode problems in x minutes" and this might help with engagement (poetry)

    Hi Sir, I think your videos are absolutely excellent! It's given me the confidence that if I put in the work I might be able to end up at a top university like Cambridge as-well so I thoroughly appreciate it. I also think that the set of people who are rlly wanting to apply to study at Cambridge for Computer Science are only an elite few perhaps also explaining the low viewership. But I, and I'm sure may other people, will continue to support your incredible work. 😊

      I am glad you are getting value and confidence out of these videos. You are quite right that the audience of people who want to apply to Cambridge is very small. I would hope that people who want to apply to any of the (say) 20 top universities in the world would still find this advice useful, even if it's not Cambridge for them, but it does seem that those who write in the comments mostly cared about Cambridge specifically. Thank you for your support.

    Hi professor,
    I'm a girl applying to Cambridge for next year's undergraduate computer science cohort. On youtube, my birthday is set wayyy older than my actual birthdate and my gender is listed as undefined. All of my peers who are also under 18 avoid using their actual birthdays online to skip the hassle with age restrictions. That is to say, you are probably doing a much better job at reaching your target audience than youtube's statistics suggest. Personally, your videos have helped me a lot with my application process as well as learning about computer science in general, thank you for making your content! (Poetry)

    I would just like to provide evidence of what prof. Stajano is saying about his feelings on teaching: we used to meet regularly back in the 90's. I can say first person that he never needed a class to share his knowledge and help people develop their skills: becoming a teacher has "only" allowed him to have a wider and deeper impact. If he's been able to teach a single thing to a single person through UA-cam, he's already been succesful, no need to be trending for that!
    Professor, to answer your question at 24'15": controversial content gets more reactions on social media (same as we clickbait titles and miniatures) as it did back on FidoNet (or ancient greek public speeches). If there's anyhow I can help with, please let me know!

      Actually lectures can take even more but even a chatty video like this one takes easily 20x real time. I won't go into details of all the individual things that need doing but I'll just point out one thing. Writing 10 pages may take several days, but you can re-read them in a few minutes. Whereas after editing a video, if you want to re-watch it from beginning to end to make sure everything is still good and you haven't missed out any details like beeping out a swear word, it will still take as long as the whole video. (You could speed up, but not by much.)
