Bubble Gum Thank you professor for making a detailed video on both of my questions. I am very happy to see the video. Thank you again for taking your time to answer my questions.
Thanks for the informative video professor. I had a question, however. I've inferred from my browsing across the internet that completing a PhD at UK universities within 3 years is "very normal" whereas that in USA or Canada can take up to 5-7 years. Also, a PhD in UK is much less stressful than that in the US. Could you please further clarify? Your opinion made made my mind almost sink.
It is definitely true that the expectation of duration of PhD varies greatly between US and UK. It is false that 3 years is "very normal" in UK: most people take closer to 4 or more (for confirmation, just check the duration of the scholarships on offer, for those who get one). As for "more stressful"... it depends on the candidate: the US PhD is more structured, whereas in the UK it's more swim-or-sink. Some people who are unsure of themselves would find the latter rather more stressful. Conversely, having to chase funding year by year for 6 or 7 years, rather than having a deal upfront for the whole duration, might make the US PhD more stressful, though on the practical rather than on the research front. What exactly in the video made your mind sink? Did this extra comment help your mind swim back up to the surface? ;-)
@FrankStajanoExplains nah. 😒😒 My mind didn't swim back to surface. Maybe super hardworking, no-social-life three years will make a PhD candidate get his/her degree in this period of time. By the way I'm from Bangladesh, not from UK. Maybe you haven't heard of this country.

@ glad to hear that! Go for it. Now it’s up to you.
