Wow, so cool to hear Rob using that aggressive back of the throat range throughout the songs, I bet he learned real quick after the first tour that he couldnt do that night after night even at this age. Really cool to hear KK going off on some cool leads.
That's right. Rob Halford didn't know how to sing properly until 1982. Both studio and concert recordings of the seventies and early eighties confirm this.
How awesome to hear this. His voice is just maniacal in this. Love that grit and power. He must've been pumped to make an impression, which he surely did.
Thanks A LOT for this - so cool to even be able to find this recording! And how lucky are we that it even was recorded!? I bet there are a few people in the crowd there could share a nice little story from that evening - being there, unaware that they are witnessing a band that would be one of the biggest and heaviest in history. Thanks again for posting.
A mighty find! Thanks so much for sharing. The arrangement of Never Satisfied is interesting as is the tempo of Cheater. Amazing to hear Red Light Lady after all these years of wondering but you can hear why Glenn was such a major asset to the songwriting.
This show is the first show with rob and was recorded at the townhouse .Wellington on 19th May 1973 I have the compilation cd with the same recording of the 3 tracks here .
This will be around the time a friend of mine pulled the plug on Priest when they played at a club in Southport! He said they were too loud and really bad, so he pulled the plug after three songs!! Lol
@@MLBFCollection Cool! In the 1975 one they only play sad wings with just 1 or 2 Rocka Rolla songs. Can I hear existing full shows though like a 1973 one
@@ais6863 Yes... The Morpheus song with Al Atkins is from april 73. But to my knowledge there is not tourdates for JP from April 15 (presumably Al last gig) to July 17 (Rob first gig)... But I'm not 100% sure.
Ребята, это просто фантастика! Если бы в таком стиле Джудас Прист выпустили Рока Роллу - это была бы лучшая их работа! Обидно, что на первой их пластинке такой тихий звук! Judas Priest - one love in my live!
I am spechless, minutes ago I stumbled with your video of the last Al Atkins show and now this, man, you made my year!!!, where did you get this one? I would offer many bootlegs in return for a lossless version....
There is also live audio of Priest (with Halford) performing with Budgie from February 11, 1974: ua-cam.com/video/TtBzsblzkys/v-deo.html , but this is EPIC. We do have the Whiskey Woman demo from 1973 with Rob singing: ua-cam.com/video/GBuseRhuCJ8/v-deo.html, but to have his first live show is an incredible find. Btw, Al Atkins played his last gig with Priest in December of 1972 and Rob joined shortly after that.
Cheater is so much heavier here than on Rocka Rolla and KK shred here. And no Harmonica. They were already so heavy and loud ! Never Satisfied is pretty much like the studio version except that it's a bit jammy here and Rob improvise a lot I suppose. But riff and structure are already there. What I don't understand is why KK solo here are so KK like and not that much on the album ? Red Light Lady is super interesting for what it is and what it was destined to become... A song really victim of changes I dare say that :)
@@MLBFCollection I’m not sure they wanted to tone down the band musically but more visually (that’s why the Coca Colla artwork) because it’s would be more commercial and would not label the band as Metal. How wrong were they...
is there a download for this somewhere? Love that the earliest show with Rob has surfaced and wish there was more early priest stuff around. good stuff!
It was on the Priest's Boot. But it shut down yesterday. I did archive it all on the wayback machine so hurry and download it before Nuppiz removes the downloads from his account.
A very gritty Rob Halford who hadn't yet found his technique, but it's him alright Although to be fair at this time he would have been calling himself Bob Halford...
I see lots of discussion about the correct date of this show. While I have no information on that, I can say that from decades of buying bootlegs you cannot always trust the date on the cd/lp/cassette. Very cool to hear, but I do not like Rob's voice at all. He learned to sing very quickly it seems...
Just learned that drummer John Hinch passed away yesterday at 73. RIP...
Yeah it's a shame. Great drummer as well, and a pretty decent guy
I'll post an interview I have of him soon
@@MLBFCollectiongreat I’ll be waiting for this interview
I think he later became a producer. I saw the same name on an Electric Sun record. Do you know?
Rock in Peace John Hinch 🙏😞⚡🤘🎸🥁
Heavier than the rest of their career Holy Hell

You said that but that register , Rob did full time on harder tours such 1982 and 1984 ...
You can do that night after night with the right technique
That's right. Rob Halford didn't know how to sing properly until 1982. Both studio and concert recordings of the seventies and early eighties confirm this.
@dmitriyzizevskikh4304 wtf ? Unleashed In The East is a heavy metal masterpiece, released in the 70s. Halford's vocals on that album was amazing.
Was this just before K.K. asked Glenn to join?

Though its more abrasive sounding without Glenn
It took them 7 long years to reach honor.. Great act, great Story
According to other sources, Halford and Hinch played their first show with Judas Priest in May 1973 at the Townhouse in Wellington.
Wow 🤘👍Epic ! Thx for sharing 🤘🤘

Real old school heavy metal!!

The dates just don't seem to line up. I'm not sure if that's really the correct date for Rob's first show.

RIP JOHN HINCH
Yes most definitely, he died yesterday sadly.
Great GEM! Thank you for sharing
That’s alright :)
Awesome rare footage! Long live the Priest \m/

This is an absolute blessing to hear this. The only missing thing now is a show from 1976... That must exist !
One from Harlow in 1976 exists but has never been seen since 1977ish. They opened with Tyrant!

6:49 , you feel the riff raffs of midlands haha , so mean attitude
The bleakness of their early sound had to come from somewhere…
This is awesome, thanks.
You're welcome!
Always thought Rob debuted in July... I'll try to double check this info... Al Atkins and Chris Campbell quit the band in May.
According to Al Atkins the date must be wrong... July 1973 is much much likely.

The record company GULL famously wanted to tone down the album so it's possible he toned down the solo for the record or Glenn did parts of it.
