    Puns aside 🙄😉😊🤣😂🤣 This was a great video! Very informative. I was totally baffled at first, didn't have a clue. You walked me through the processes and order of operations very, VERY well Rick, I will be watching this a few times to glean everything from it. I would have sworn the compressor was bad from your voltages and the sound of that thing, who would have thought a short in the evap heaters could cause that amp draw. Just amazing. Make sure I'm right about that. Just a good reminder for me to check and double check everything! So well done.👍

    the evap fans moving like that tells me something shorted and dropped a leg and half voltage is back-feeding through them to ground. my first thought fan wires in evap rubbed out and blew the fuse, vibration from you made it touch slightly and the motors jump/hum at half voltage like that (120v to case ground through them). when you replaced fuse on roof and cycled a few time it probably arced itself clear, I wonder if there was a firework show and puff of smoke in the cooler lol. that contactor sure looked terribad, yikes!

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 4 роки тому +2

      and by 29:48 good guessing on my part, if someone was in the cooler when you replaced the fuse, they'd have seen one heck of a firework show and smoke :))
      although I missed saying the fan wire was what rubbed, close enough though lol

  • @heavydiesel

    Great vid as usual! If its not a loose wire feeding the compressor then I suspect the compressor contactor intermittently not connecting all three phases. I've got three clamp meters which I use on these sorts of problems, lets you check all three legs are pulling similar current before the compressors internal overload trips.

    • @sterlingarcher46
      @sterlingarcher46 4 роки тому +1

      HD man a badman innit 👍
      My colleague just came across a circuit with 2 compressors on a dual system , I just did a leak repair on it and now the compressor makes a horrible sound and the Kriwan module won't reset .
      I did my head in but I'm leaning towards either the contactor like u just said , or bad lubrication and cooling whilst it was running low on oil and refrigerant .
      Still , bit of a mind f innit !

    • @heavydiesel
      @heavydiesel 4 роки тому +1

      @@sterlingarcher46 Yeah it can be a nightmare trying to test stuff before it trips or does more damage!
      I think some of those Kriwan modules sense phase rotation etc plus they do fail fairly often in my experience.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 роки тому

      Yeah I could have done that, good idea. I have three or four meters, generally it's not intermittent like that. My thought is it probably bounced when it shorted and then touched every now and again.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah if it was a better system it would be nice if they had some sort of phase protection. It seems no one usually wants to spend the money. You figure the minimum cost generally is about a hundred and fifty bucks area for a digital one.

      @@HVACRSurvival how long do you spend in each call, average time ?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  5 місяців тому

      @rafaelandreano it really depends on the condition of the call, but I mean I don’t leave until I feel as though it’s done right unless I can come back for some reason but it’s usually not good to come back because that cost more money and time. Sometimes it takes two hours or three hours. I have no problem staying for four if it’s what it takes.
