Many reviewers say they are not beholden to the manufacturer who sent it for free, but you can tell, their reviews are half baked for fear of pissing off the company. I really appreciate your detailed honest, "no-holds-barred" USEFUL reviews.

Thanks. I don't solicit stuff and I turn down a lot of stuff because it's not something I would use. Last week I was offered an exercise back.

It was good to see something different the Small Rig cage looks very well made. If you dropped it you know that it won't break. This video was like watching a movie and it had a great ending, your happy with it and you will be happy using it. It would be good to see a video of how it performed. Another great video you learn something new every day.

I am a stills shooter and I use a cage mostly for protection of my investment from knocks $ bumps BUT.....
Another main reason is for exactly what you are talking about, particularly on the XH2 as I wasnt all that keen to fork out $600 AUD (Aussie $'s) for the VG XH Fuji power / vertical grip as I barely go portrait orientation other than for Wedding or Portrait work of course.
Anyway I plan to also attach my Peak Design Micro Clutch 'L plate' (BRAND NEW release) to the cage once that arrives from their latest Kickstarter campaign. Have a look at that product as it should compliment this cage perfectly as the strap is designed to fit between your two middle fingers between your index and pinky thus allowing your pinky to grip the bottom of the cage.
I plan to shoot from the hip or shoulder with the PD capture Clip, I also have plans to test out the cage on my Cotton Carrier and Spider accessories.
Anyway Booray thought that would interest you mate if you wanted to experiment the set up as I will be.

I've never had a problem getting my pinky finger on the H2 camera. For me it's perfect....

I used the SmallRig L-bracket on my X-S10 for the versatility it affords when using a tripod, but also for some protection. I can safely set it down on cement, for instance, without worry. Sometimes I need light mounted in odd places for macro photography.

I just picked one up, but for me it was to protect my camera body from damage if I dropped it.

I have the same issue with the grip. I bought small rig L bracket and just remove the bracket where the ports are.

Just to make you aware, there's a plain L bracket available too that has the extended grip but without impeding any of the PASM / ISO buttons. Smallrig 3928B

I know but now I'm kind of used to having that bar that I can grab with my index finger 🤣

Hi Booray…don’t Fuji make a (battery) grip for the XH2? This would alleviate your pinky problem although gives you more bulk to carry around!😁

Great review, thanks. I access ISO on the bottom d pad. Easier and faster to change ISO.

I actually have mine set up there too but I've been trying to use the button because there's a part of me just just feels silly not using a button that is actually labeled ISO 😂

I'm sure you have seen the L-bracket for the XH2. That would seem to me be better for you than a full cage. I have the XT3 and XT4 and use Smallrig L brackets on both get a bigger grip and have the arca swiss plate. Now as a landscape guy, I'm not handholding my camera as much as you, but I appreciate the extra grip size (mine have the wood extension), and I don't think I've ever used these cameras without the brackets on them. Thanks for the video Sir. Take care

I've been thinking about it but now that I've got the full cage I'm going to give it a try. I really think that having that extra grip for my index finger might outweigh the interference with the pasm dial.

Sorry to be off track in my question for this video, but I have also watched your Fuji X-T5 vs. X-H2 comprehensive video, and I would just like to know if you found the auto focus in X-H2 any better than on the X-T5, or was it pretty much the same. Thank you.

I've never used the XT5 but it's my understanding that they are about the same.

Just wear a fingerless glove to keep the thing from digging into your flesh! There are motorcycle gloves, and probably other types, that has either extra leather or some kind of padding on the palm. Plus, it'll look rad!

Great review, thanks! Some people are complaining about the access to the battery compartment being blocked by the cage but it does not seem like that in your video.
Can't you just screw the pin of the Spyder mount directly to the cage instead of using the extra mount?

    • @BoorayPerry
      @BoorayPerry  Рік тому +1

The peg mount on the Spyder isn't a simple screw. It's got an allen wrench top, I assume to make sure it doesn't come loose. Even if you could do it (and I have another peg that would) you would lose the tripod mount (but gain less weight and less interference with flipping the screen." I'm gonna look into it.

If you attach a speedlight, will it not hit the top part of the cage?

JUST ONE INCONVENIENT, No L bracket for vertical shots. As both you and me are photographers and not videophotographers.
