I like the way Andy says, "I'm primarily a landscape photographer and don't really do street photography - I'm not particularly good at it", then proceeds to show about a dozen excellent street images from New York 😁!

Always enjoy your detailed & thorough reviews. Decided to make the switch from an X-T3 to the X-H2 a couple weeks ago and this feels like a huge upgrade on multiple levels. I've only used it for my daughter's soccer games so far, but saw an immediate improvement in the overall quality of the shots I was getting and a higher percentage of keepers as well.
Thanks for a very clear and comprehensive review Andy, the XH2 is top of my list at the moment. I had hands on of it and the Nikon Z7 today and I felt the XH2 was the better handling camera. As an XT3 landscape shooter I will wait for the XT5 before making a decision but on the strength of what I have seen so far I agree with you the XH2 is looking like a fabulous choice. So pleased I have invested in Fuji, I think they are taking a huge step here.
Well four months later… your story is about the same as mine. I ended up getting a H2 over the T5. Why? The buffer. I am mostly a landscape shooter but I do shoot much faster subjects and was worried about the buffer filling up after a second or two. Not a spray and pray shoot but intentional burst to get just the right shot.
The EVF is a bliss on XH2, for manual focusing just perfect. Coming from the XT2 which was a hassle on manual focusing, where you often will miss the focus and shot.
Hi this was such a great video and you take beautiful photos! I have a question I hope you don’t mind helping me with: I have an XT3 and I'm just looking for, ideally, an all-in-one lens I can use for events, portraits, and to be prepared for lowlight situations. I love that Fuji lenses are small and easy to carry, but if I don't need to carry multiple lenses, I'd rather not. Do you have any recommendations? Another UA-camr suggested an 18-50mm f2.8 and a “1.4 prime lens” but they never said which/how many mm for the prime lens exactly, sigh. Thank you! 🙏
I think you should become Fujifilm's spokesman. Your explanation is really calm and detailed. You are very knowledgeable and I found your video very useful, thank you.
Thanks for the comment Barry, really glad you enjoy the reviews. The X-H1 was never a popular camera, but I suspect Fuji have got a lot right with the X-H2 and it's going to be pretty popular for them
Great review. I like that you don't show us pictures of walls; you show us actual pictures that we, ordinary shooter, will take. I have an XT3 and an XT4. The XT3 is now for sale. Oh, I just ordered the H2 today.
Brilliant common sense review Andy. Thanks a lot. Just put in my order for an X-H2, looks like it might be a fantastic hybrid stills+video solution for me. Thanks again 👍
Thanks for taking the time to provide additional information overlaid on your video. You provided enough information on setting handling, so I decided to go for the X-H2 instead of waiting for the X-T5. I have not used a PASM-based camera since the X-T1 came out, but I'm thinking 40MP and the deeper grip/nice shutter combination of an X-Hx series would make the X-H2 worth it.
Great review, Andy. I pre-ordered as soon as I could, so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it later this month. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Great review. As an X-T user, definitely agree with you on the lot of us missing the articulating screen. As (slightly) bulky as it was, it was extremely comfortable to use as from a photo-centric perspective. Perhaps Fujifilm could have kept the articulating screen for more photo-focused line up/users, and pass off the flip-out screen to more video-focused users or devices (ie. X-H2S).
Thanks for the comment. I'm curious about whether the XH line will have an effect on the screen on the X-T5. For sure, the video is still going to be really strong in that camera, but it's one thing they could use a differentiation point from the XH2. I guess we'll see
Thanks for your very useful and thorough review, Andy --- the first I've seen reflecting the perspective of landscape photographers. Your assessment is in line with my own. Indeed, I ordered one last week, as an upgrade from my X-S10.
Thank you Andy : Being at the threshold of continuing with the GFX, or embracing the X Series, the discussion was particularly relevant. But ‘MY’ contribution would be to acknowledge how many times I see a blue / active ‘reply’ link under so many of the comments that we post ! That takes some application on your behalf - & must be tedious at times - but thank you ! We all appreciate it !🙏
@@AndyMumford Thank you Andy, I was thinking about the EOS Mk ii but will purchase the XH2, with the new 23mm prime lens. I only take landscape stills, (single shots) with the very occasional 2 minute casual holiday video. Are there any memory cards you can recommend please?
Great video. Great back up camera for the GFX 100s. High MP. Long lenses to use, high resolution and essentially the same body….perfect together for those landscape adventures!!
Thanks for the comment Arun. At Fujikina I was rarely at the public event as we had so much scheduled around the city, so I actually got to meet very few people.
I use an xt3 and I can't imagine no dials on the top of the camera. Love my xt3 and might get an xt4 as a buddy to it. I'm still using an old canon 5d3 for portraits only but Fuji is now my go to camera after years of being a Canon shooter
Hi, I switched from the XT3 having used it exclusively for 2+ years. Inevitably it took some getting used to and likewise if I don't use for a week or 2 there's a short investment of time needed to refamiliarise. I still miss the ISO dial and focus switch on the front, but personally, the faster AF was my main reason for switching with the dual sensor as I shoot nature and fast-action. I have the XH2S not the XH2, but can concur with everything Andy says re. build quality and form factor, which is the same on both. If faster AF isn't needed, then I'd probably advise waiting for the XT5 and then doing a head-to-head with those as there'll be a step-up in upgrade terms relative to a switch XT3 > XT4.
Thanks for the review. I think you create the clearest and non-dramatic reviews of Fuji gear. I'm searching for a lightweight camera setup for long hikes in the mountains, where my GFX is too heavy. But I think, I will wait for the X-T5. I really like the same kind of user interface between the X-H2 and the GFX100S, but otherwise it would be nice to have the retro controls of the X-T series.
Thanks for the comment, really glad you find the reviews useful. I also think I'm going to wait for the XT5 before I decide which one to buy (I just borrowed the camera for 5 days for this review)
@@iefdelaender6224 Very similar. X-E4 18-55 / 27mm /70-300. My other system is Sony A7R IV plus four lenses. A recent holiday in mountains started with me carrying the former and ended with me carrying the latter. Getting older sucks and is a pain literally.
Easily the most informative and best review I've seen. So nice to hear the thoughts of somebody who really takes great photos not just gear reviewers. Did you ever experience any issues with rolling shutter in real world experiences? I feel like I've never experienced it with the X-T4 or even X100V recording video, so I would probably be fine with this. Crazy that you can get the same AF system with 40MP for $500 less and only miss the stacked sensor which as you said seems only really relevant for super slow mo or high speed action shooting.
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the review. I didn’t notice any rolling shutter in the time I was using it, and I haven’t heard reports about it so I don’t think it’s an issue. I agree with you that this is a really good value, although my understanding is that the stacked sensor is more expensive to produce, which accounts for the price difference, along with some extremely strong hints from Fuji that the 40mp sensor is going to be reused in future cameras. So you’ll probably get the same sensor, along with the same AF and processed in the XT5, but minus the CF Express card, minus the super high res EVF and minus some of the video features like Pro Res, and the really high shutter speeds. And that will likely cost less, as Fuji claim the XH series is the flagship and above the XT series.
@@AndyMumford Thanks for the insight. Have you found the 10-24 works well with the new 40mp sensor? It’s not on the list of supported lenses but neither is the 16mm 1.4 which is one of fuji’s sharpest lenses afaik
I've got one. I'm trying to decide on weather to keep it, or go GFX 50S II since I've also got an X-T3. The image quality lust is real. This is a more advanced camera in most every way, but that big 51mp sensor is something special and the GFX kit lens too so I hear.
A fine review. The three things that separate the H2 vs H2S is the pixel shift, more megapixels, and 8K. For the rest, the H2S is the one to have (as a hybrid shooter). I had the H2 and now have and will keep the H2S....until the next 'toy' comes along ;)
I recently rented an X-H2s for a dance performance in the theater. I usually use my Nikon Z8 and Z9, but I purchased and XT-5, which I love for everyday and travel photography. My full frame cameras are for lowlight shooting. I used my XT-5 with one lens for the dance performance and the X-H2s with another. The buffer on the XT-5 was obviously slow, but the X-H2s was a fast little beast. I found iso 5000 to be the acceptable limit, but usable. Iso 3200 to 4000 would be preferable for lowlight. I enjoyed testing the X-H2s but not being a videographer, I will purchase the X-H2 for stills. The 40 megapixel sensor with Fuji's new processor is amazing! I did not notice much difference between the high iso images between the rented x-H2s and my XT-5. Fuji's new image processor really delivers!
Excellent review as always. Just one thing puts me off this camera. The CFexpress card (as per the X-T5). I'm still waiting for the prices to drop but no sign of that happening yet.
Excellent review. As an X-T4 user I am really interested in your impressions of the dynamic range. Do you feel it's better, similar or worse than the X-T4?
Jason, Andy did mention the X-H2's high ISO performance (still photos at Grand Central Station) is slightly better than the X-T4's. As you know ISO performance and DR are closely linked. I think that is a positive sign for the X-H2. I'm pleasantly surprised.
I didn’t really have the conditions to test it, but DR isn’t something that really bothers me because bracketing is so easy, so it’s not something I really look at in cameras
Wouldn't it be possible the image at 15:25 is suffering from diffraction? The higher pixel density supposed to make that visible earlier on in the aperture range.
Yes, technically any aperture above f5.6 will introduce diffraction on this camera. But I‘m pretty sure fuji counteracts that effect by sharpening the image in camera (even raw).
Its possible, I shot it with the aperture a lot smaller than usual (I usually use f7.1 with the 10-24) because I was trying to blur the traffic a little. I think there’s another image from the same spot in the video where you can see that.
Great review as ever. I was interested in the comment you made regarding your initial impression of build quality. I have an X-T2 and X-H1 and have been reluctant to upgrade to the X-T4 because somehow it feels the material is cheaper. It sounds as if, although a great camera, I will get a similar feeling with the X-H2 which is a great pity.
I didn't feel that about the XT4..that to me feels like a very solid camera. I think the thing with the XH2 is that so much of the sides are doors for the many connectors, and the flip out screen runs all the way along the bottom of the camera (it has no housing) and felt a little less solid at first. Also, i've been using the GFX a lot recently, which is an incredibly solid camera, and that may have affected my first impressions. After using it for a while though I was really comfortable with the build.
I do have it on pre-order, but I'll wait until I've held it in my hands before taking the plunge, especially with the added substantial expense of the Express card and reader which I don't really need. Thanks for your reply and your welcome down to earth style.
Tfhis is a very good, professional and complete review. thank you. what do you think of a complete and profi review with a comparison between this camera and the Nikon z7 mark 2.
Haha, thanks so much. It’s really not something I do very often. The two guys I was with were really good street photographers and my work was pretty average in comparison
As a very happy X-H1 user I can safely say I'm saving up for this upgrade. The main thing that made my mind up was the increase in resolution and the fact that it has the same bigger body as the X-H1. It seems like a fatastic upgrade. It's going for around 2 grand atm so It's probably gonna be a while before I get my hands on one but nonetheless, very excited!!!
Just ordered one. Changing from Panasonic g9. Main reason is 40mp and 8k for landscaping. In good light should be amazing. Is not full frame but as well not a 1 inch sensor. So hopefully will do well
Thanks for the detailed and very good review. I love also the quality of your video. Do you use the X-S10? Please tell us your settings (film simulation, f stop). That would be wonderful!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks so much for the comment. This video was filmed with the X-S10 using the Provia film setting (I often use Eterna) at around f6,5. I use a ring light off to the side of the camera, and a Yeti Nano microphone recording audio into Adobe Audition. I then sync the audio in Premiere and delete the audio from the camera.
Lovely camera, but my concern with Fuji is that with each new model, the weight continues to rise and the greatest advantage they have over FF cameras is being progressively lost. My first, the XE1, was 350g. By the time we got to the XT4, we were up to 526g and now this new model is 660 with battery and recording media. We are now getting into Canon R5 territory in relation to weight. My other issue is the restriction on lenses that can be used with the new 40MP sensor. Obviously you can put any XF lens in front of it, but if you look at Fuji's web site many of my lenses are no longer recommended. For me, it is time to look back to mirrorless FF
You meet the point. The benefits of Fuji are given up on this model und moved towards like Canon. I hope XT5 keep current haptic of XT4 with the same sensor as XH2.
I take your point and agree with you about the increasing size and weight of the cameras. My feeling is that the XH model is always going to be bigger and heavier than the XT model, and I think it’s likely the XT5 will weigh about the same as the XT4. When it comes to weight though, it’s easy to just compare camera bodies and not take into account the system as a whole. I’ve seen a lot of weight comparisons which cherry pick lenses to prove one thing or the other, but a like for like comparison between lenses of similar focal lengths and quality will always have a full frame system quiete a bit heavier when you have 2 or 3 lenses.
@@AndyMumford not so sure about that. If you add a medium tele zoom, the fuji 50-140 weighs essentially the same as the Canon 70-200 f2.8, and considerably more than the f4. The wider zooms are much the same The 24-70 2.8 canon is a brick but a fantastic lens. I have actually traded out of my main Fuji gear now back to Canon and pocked up the R5. The xt4 was a lovely piece of kit but i have had that body, and an xpro 2, both fail in the analog dials, with them repeatedly jamming. The canon body is far more robust and there is just no comparison with the AF for my non landscape work. The deed is done for me. Will keep the (now repaired) xpro 2 and some light primes for street work but thats it for me
Great review. You mention using a "L" bracket on the camera but I've yet to find anyone who sells one. I thought you had until I took a closer look and found the image on screen to be a GFX not the X-H2. I do have a generic one but it's always nice to be able to change the battery without removing the "L" bracket!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the review. When I had the camera for review it was actually pre-launch, so there were no L brackets on the market (although, thinking about it..brackets for the X-H2S would certainly work). I always get inexpensive 3rd party L brackets which often take a while to arrive on the market after the cameras have been available for a while. I had a quick Google and found this one amzn.to/3FwzEzv and this one from Small Rig amzn.to/3UXvPsM Both are made specifically for the XH2/S and allow access to the battery compartment
@@AndyMumford Wow Andy, thanks for the quick reply and research. I'd done a quick search on Amazon (I'm in Western Canada) and came up blank so it's good to know they will be out there. I did get a 3rd party one for my X-T2 and have been well pleased with it. My X-H2 arrives next week! Always enjoy your channel and your no nonsense calm approach, thanks again.

Great video, Andy. Today, 22nd August 2023, I am in a bit of a quandary. I am not looking for advice but trying to decide for myself whether to wait for the Fuji-X Summit on September 12th and hope for an X-Pro4 launch announcement, or to go for an X-H2 now. If the X-Pro4 IS announced, and if it has the features I am hoping for, and NOT a monochrome camera, then I will definitely get one. But will I want BOTH cameras?
Andy great review long ago I used an X100iv but had to sell it because the diopter wouldn’t go far enough for my reading prescription. So at the NEC this weekend I made a Bline to the Fuji stand to test the MK V happy to say it now does go far enough, however I also tried the H2 etc and was massively impressed by build quality and EVF to the point where I’m thinking of trading in my Sony A1 and going Fuji. I love the high res stuff purely for cropping. I just need to figure out what lens to buy. My A1 is great but I don’t use video at all so partly a waste and 15FPS and up is enough for my sports you never know I may also pick up a H2S at least then wife can follow me about.
Hi, thank you for this video. You do beautiful work! I have a question I am hoping you can help me with if you don't mind. I have an XT3 (looking to get an XH2 eventually) and I'm looking for, ideally, an all-in-one lens I can use for events, portraits, and lowlight. Do you have any recommendations? Another photographer had suggested the following: -All in one lens: 18-50mm f 2.8 -For primes (all f 1.4): 16mm, 18mm, 23mm, 33mm, 35mm While I love that Fuji lenses are small and easy to carry, if I don't need to carry multiple lenses, I'd rather not. Thank you in advance! 🙏
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not a big fan of the "all in one lens" because I tend to shoot either tele or ultra wide, so there's no option that really works. The most flexible lens for focal range is the 16-80mm, but it's not a low light lens, so in that case I'd say the 16-55mm f2.8 I don't use a lot of primes, but I'd say you need something longer than you've listed there. Say, the 16mm, the 23mm, the 35mm and then either a 56 or the 90mm. I longer lens really helps at events when you need to pull something close.
@@AndyMumford Hi, thank you so much for your response, and the lesson. This was really helpful and educational. You definitely gave me more things to consider and think about. I truly appreciate it, thank you 🙂. Do you mind clarifying what you mean by "a longer lens"? And, you listed a few 😅. Are you able to narrow those options down to what I should really be looking at? I doubt I'll buy all of those lenses, but I wouldn't mind checking out each one to see what they offer. I know you don't know what kind of pictures I'm taking exactly, so I'm completely okay with what may work best generally speaking. Again, thank you. This was a great help! 🙏 Enjoy your cameras and keep up the beautiful work ✨.
I would love to see the comparison between x-h2 and GFX or even full-frame if you have one, I know it is the different system but I love to see how close can it make. Lastly, does more pixels in camera help the tonality of colour ? Great review as always !
I no longer have the XH2 so I can't really compare. I did do one shot side by side and obviously the XH2 is closer to the 26mp sensor than it is to the 100mp sensor. As for the tonality of the colour, that comes from the colour information. The XH2 has 14 bit colour, the GFX has 16 bit colour, so the tonal range is higher in the GFX
hi Andy, good review. I'm a silent camera event shooter, ofyen with poor LED lighting. Any word on improved flicker/banding in images? I'm coming from the H1. I am hoping the new generation sensor might be fast enough to help.
Hi Dave, thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review. I really can’t comment on the flickering in the images, I didn’t shoot in conditions like that and no longer have the camera (I borrowed it for about a week to make the review)
@@AndyMumford Thanks Andy, keep up the good work! I ended up with the H2S, it has essentially solved the low light silent LED banding issue for me with its super fast readout times from the stacked sensor. A big change from the H1 - and the H2. I have a colleague who who rocks the latest Nikon Z9 who shoots in the same use-case - and the H2s is its equivalent, for far less ££.
It is not faster to press a button to change AF to MF. The switch on the Fuji’s like XT4 does not need to be looked at. I change it on my XE3, XH1, and XT4 without even looking. I do it by feel. Fuji failed changing this to a button.
I never got used to it and always have to look at the front of the camera to see what I’m doing. I don’t care about this change. What bothers me is the placement of the customizable button on the top (the one behind the WB button). Impossible to operate with your index.
hi, thank you for this useful statement. I own GFX100S with GF lenses and I love the image quality with deep dynamic range but unfortunately, I cannot take it for a walk around and even I cannot afford the weigh-in backpack (about 8-10kg), especially in my 60-year-old age! Recently I am thinking maybe it's better to sacrifice some MP and sell my GFX gear and invest in XH2 with red batches lenses which will be 4kg including accessories. Although I am wondering about your quite nice photographs with lower-weight lenses (10-24 instead of 8-16, 24-80 instead of 16-55, and 70-300 instead of 50-140) still I am not sure those lenses can handle 40mp perfectly same as red batch lenses or not?! I know that image quality with a medium-format sensor would be much better than 40mp for cropping in the post and large print, but XH2 is giving me a chance to take it everywhere for photography, and also for landscape photography if I need massive details and large print, maybe I can use the advance feature on XH2 for multiple shots and enhancement in post. So, would you please advise me on what would be the right decision for me? Thank you.
Undoubtably the XH2 won't give you the same image quality as your GFX (I have both the XT5 and GFX100S), but it's still an excellent camera. I use the XT5 exclusively with the 10-24, 16-80 and 55-200. None of these are red label and all of them are excellent
Thanks for this vid - I was waiting for your thoughts! We use the X-H1 and X-T3 in our studio for commercial, scientific and multi stitched fine art reproduction work so a 40MP X-Trans camera is on the cards! I want the traditional analog style dials and XT-3 style screen for low and high level vertical shooting so hopefully an X-T5 will go back to that traditional configuration (hate the X-T4).
@@AndyMumford not as much as you would think as evenly lighting and getting a really sharp image from a 1m x 1.5m artwork with a single 160MP capture is no where near as high fidelity as six or nine overlapping 40MP close up captures stitched together. We originally replaced our 384MP Betterlight scanning back with an X-T2 and a custom built repro rig and multi image stitching years ago!
With regards to the lack of focus mode button, I had a very quick play with an X-H2 at house of photography in London and the custom button on the front at the bottom left, where the focus dial is on an X-T4, is set up to be the focus mode button. Is it not like this by default?
I actually don't have the camera with me anymore as I just borrowed it, and I honestly can't remember whether that button was the default focus mode button or not
Hi Andy, many thanks for the time taken to do the review, The file size is the issue for me storage space processor performance and so on, what is the compressed RAW file size, and is it possible to say have a 30mp Raw file as I would not need 40mp.
Thanks for the comment, glad you found the review useful. As for file size, no, you can't have cropped RAW, you can only do that with JPGs. RAW files sizes are around 80-90mb
Well, it depends on how much you need to stabilise, but it gives you almost 2000 more pixels along the longest edge, so that's quite a bit of room to crop
Awesome videos and content Andy! I just switched over to this camera and was out shooting the 70-300 yesterday, I was not able to get focus when I zoomed out to 300mm, I had to go back to 70mm and adjust the focus as I continued to zoom back towards 300mm! My question is, have I missed a setting in the camera or is there something wrong with the lens or camera? Thanks
Thanks for your videos . I have an issue with mine , just got it. When I take a picture, I get the "Recording" message on the screen after about 2 seconds , is nuts LOL , Is supposed to playback the image asap. I have good high speed cards and all of my settings are good, the way you have them. Thoughts? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you !!
Nope, the 16-80 isn't optimised for the 40mp sensor. We asked about this when we met with Fuji at Fujikina, and they said that while the lens wasn't optimised, you'd still see a big improvement in resolution with it. Same as with the 10-24 etc
Hi Arun. No, the dimensions of the image will be exactly the same, but when you zoom into the image you'll see a softness or lack of detail at a pixel level
15:00 wow, the XH2 image looks a lot more subtle, less artificial sharpening and more nuance in the shadows, i think. The XS10 , which is the camera I have, looks good too, but a touch overworked. Did you use the same settings on both? At least the white balance seems diferent. Thanks for the video
If you're shooting with the larger glass like fujifilm 100-400 or larger primes the X H2 works really well. I don't find that I need the battery grip while using the 100-400 lens.
I like the way Andy says, "I'm primarily a landscape photographer and don't really do street photography - I'm not particularly good at it", then proceeds to show about a dozen excellent street images from New York 😁!
Thanks so much, but I was with a couple of street photographers on this trip and they really put me to shame with how good they were

Haha, thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the video
I was waiting your review. Because I’ve already ordered X-H2 and I’m waiting the delivery. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed video. Have fun with the new camera
So concise and covers all the usability info I can’t find elsewhere - thanks
Thanks so much for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the review
Love your Fuji reviews. I also love my X-H1 which was never popular but I love the IBIS with Fuji primes.
Thanks for the comment Barry, really glad you enjoy the reviews. The X-H1 was never a popular camera, but I suspect Fuji have got a lot right with the X-H2 and it's going to be pretty popular for them
1st time visitor to your channel. I'm a local, and you captured a lot of great images of New York City.
Thanks for your commentary on the camera.
Thanks so much. You live in an amazing city and I had a brilliant time there. Would love to go back
Finally, I was waiting for your video! Thank you so much for all the info, Andy! This camera is amazing :)
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review
Very impressive and detailed presentation. Thank you, Andy.
Thanks so much, glad it was useful
As always, stellar, impeccable presentation. Thank you.
Thanks so much, glad you found it interesting
thank you for your videos Andy! i find them very inspirational and practical.
Thanks so much, glad you found it useful
Thanks Andy! Great review, good sample images, more than enough info for me to make a decision. I always enjoy your videos! Geoff
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it
I think I'm sold on this camera. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
Great review! Got the X-S10 right now and the comparison with this camera in the photo details was very nice. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
Great review. I like that you don't show us pictures of walls; you show us actual pictures that we, ordinary shooter, will take. I have an XT3 and an XT4. The XT3 is now for sale. Oh, I just ordered the H2 today.
Thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the video
The images are Spectacular! Not sure anyone has ever photograph NYC better at night! Fujifilm owes you good Mr. Mumford!
Thanks so much…but I think a lot of people have better night images of NYC. I was very lucky to be able to do a helicopter flight
@@AndyMumford Genius Andy Mumford is modest! Appreciate your response.
Brilliant common sense review Andy. Thanks a lot. Just put in my order for an X-H2, looks like it might be a fantastic hybrid stills+video solution for me. Thanks again 👍
Thanks for the comment, have fun with the Xh2
Clear and honest as always Andy.
Thanks so much, glad you found it useful
Thanks for taking the time to provide additional information overlaid on your video. You provided enough information on setting handling, so I decided to go for the X-H2 instead of waiting for the X-T5. I have not used a PASM-based camera since the X-T1 came out, but I'm thinking 40MP and the deeper grip/nice shutter combination of an X-Hx series would make the X-H2 worth it.
Thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoyed the review
As always a worthwhile review Andy, you tell it like it is. Cheers happy shooting.
Thanks for the comment Iain, glad you enjoyed the review
Great review, Andy. I pre-ordered as soon as I could, so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it later this month. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for the comment, hope you enjoy the camera
Thanks for your review
This is very useful for me
Looking forward to his release on market now
Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed the review
Super useful review Andy! Many thanks!
Thanks so much, glad it was useful
Thanks for an excellent review from a photographer! It makes all the difference.
Thanks for the comment, really glad you found it useful
I guess we'll see
Best ambassador for Fujifilm ❣️
Thanks so much?
Thanks for your very useful and thorough review, Andy --- the first I've seen reflecting the perspective of landscape photographers. Your assessment is in line with my own. Indeed, I ordered one last week, as an upgrade from my X-S10.
Thanks for the comment, enjoy the camera
Great video! I was expecting a video about the X-H2 from you. Thank you for all the info!
Thanks for the comment, hope you found the video useful
As always perfect review!!!! I want this camera!!!!
Thanks so much, and have fun with the camera
Lovely video, Andy! Thank you for the in-depth review and answering the questions I had :)
Thanks Jan, hope you’re well. Glad you found it useful. Ping me if there’s anything else you want to know about it
Very good review. And with a compulsory shot from highline down W 23rd 😊
Thanks so much
You my sir are great at Street Photography also. Excellent New York photos!
Thanks so much, it’s not really my field, but I do enjoy shooting street
Thank you Andy : Being at the threshold of continuing with the GFX, or embracing the X Series, the discussion was particularly relevant. But ‘MY’ contribution would be to acknowledge how many times I see a blue / active ‘reply’ link under so many of the comments that we post ! That takes some application on your behalf - & must be tedious at times - but thank you ! We all appreciate it !🙏
Thanks so much for the comment. I really appreciate it.
Very helpful, the helicopter photos were incredible. Thank you
Thanks for the comment, glad you found the vide useful
@@AndyMumford Thank you Andy, I was thinking about the EOS Mk ii but will purchase the XH2, with the new 23mm prime lens. I only take landscape stills, (single shots) with the very occasional 2 minute casual holiday video. Are there any memory cards you can recommend please?
Great video. Great back up camera for the GFX 100s. High MP. Long lenses to use, high resolution and essentially the same body….perfect together for those landscape adventures!!
Hi Ico :-) It does make a good parter to the GFX, not least because the controls are a natural switch between the two.
Amazing review as always Andy! If I had known you were coming to fujikina, I would have definitely made the 6hr trip to NYC
The XT5 will have the same dials across the top
Thank you for the detailed and practical review. Really appreciated, especially as I use the GFX and am looking for a lighter X model.
Thanks so much for comment, glad you found the review useful
simply the best, thank you Andy 👍👏
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
My lightweight camera setup is a Fuji X-E4 10-24, 18-55, 55-200. I use also a gfx 50r with 32-64,100-200 and later the 20-35
@@iefdelaender6224 Very similar. X-E4 18-55 / 27mm /70-300. My other system is Sony A7R IV plus four lenses. A recent holiday in mountains started with me carrying the former and ended with me carrying the latter. Getting older sucks and is a pain literally.
I absolutely love the camera. Use it for professional real estate photos and online video.
It is indeed a lovely camera
Great review. Very helpful to those of us who use cameras as tools and not as objects of desire.
Thanks so much for the comment.
I desire and love my favourite tools 😂
I've got one. I'm trying to decide on weather to keep it, or go GFX 50S II since I've also got an X-T3. The image quality lust is real. This is a more advanced camera in most every way, but that big 51mp sensor is something special and the GFX kit lens too so I hear.
Honestly, I found the GFX 50mp sensor to produce cleaner images with more detail, but that could simply be the quality of lenses I was using.
Someone I know really well just ordered one.
I'm sure they'll love it
A fine review. The three things that separate the H2 vs H2S is the pixel shift, more megapixels, and 8K. For the rest, the H2S is the one to have (as a hybrid shooter). I had the H2 and now have and will keep the H2S....until the next 'toy' comes along ;)
Thanks for the the comment, glad you enjoyed the video
Great review as always Andy, this is on my list but I'll wait to see the XT5 and I will decide which to buy to replace my X-S10.
Glad you enjoyed the review. I'm going to wait to see what the XT5 brings as well before I decide which one to go with
nice review always andy!!!
Thanks so much for the comment
Thanks for the comment
Great review, thanks !!
Thanks so much, glad it was useful
Excellent review as always. Just one thing puts me off this camera. The CFexpress card (as per the X-T5). I'm still waiting for the prices to drop but no sign of that happening yet.
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review. The XT5 doesn't have a CF Express card slot though, just two SD cards
@@AndyMumford is handheld bracketing already possible with Fuji cameras since they have a good IBIS or do you still need a tripod?
Wouldn't it be possible the image at 15:25 is suffering from diffraction? The higher pixel density supposed to make that visible earlier on in the aperture range.
Yes, technically any aperture above f5.6 will introduce diffraction on this camera. But I‘m pretty sure fuji counteracts that effect by sharpening the image in camera (even raw).
Its possible, I shot it with the aperture a lot smaller than usual (I usually use f7.1 with the 10-24) because I was trying to blur the traffic a little. I think there’s another image from the same spot in the video where you can see that.
Excellent review, well done!
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it
Great review as ever.
Thanks so much for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review. I've never used the Z7 so can't make a comparison like that
That feeling when Andy says he's not good at street photography then proceeds to show gorgeous shots from New York... 😳
You'll love it, it's a great camera
@@AndyMumford Can't wait. Also, thank you for your reply! You're landscape photography is one of the main reasons I bought my X-H1.
Great review.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it
What about the new 10-24 zoom lens - Is it not optimized for the 40 MP sensor?
No, it's not on the list
Those helicopter shots did end up coming out stunning! 🤩
Cheers Joe, it really was an amazing experience. You really should do it
Thanks for the information on low light high ISO performance which I'm interested.
Glad it was useful.
would this camera be good for astro photogrpaphy or start trails?
The camera is excellent for that, but with astro and aurora it really depends on which lens you use
Just ordered one. Changing from Panasonic g9. Main reason is 40mp and 8k for landscaping. In good light should be amazing. Is not full frame but as well not a 1 inch sensor. So hopefully will do well
Have fun with it
Thanks for the detailed and very good review.
I then sync the audio in Premiere and delete the audio from the camera.
what camera do you film with it looks great thanks for a great video
I record my videos with the X-S10
The wider zooms are much the same
The 24-70 2.8 canon is a brick but a fantastic lens.
I had a quick Google and found this one amzn.to/3FwzEzv and this one from Small Rig amzn.to/3UXvPsM
Both are made specifically for the XH2/S and allow access to the battery compartment
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video. As for the question, only you can answer that
Andy great review long ago I used an X100iv but had to sell it because the diopter wouldn’t go far enough for my reading prescription.
Thanks for the comment, glad the review was useful
Hi, thank you for this video. You do beautiful work!
I have a question I am hoping you can help me with if you don't mind. I have an XT3 (looking to get an XH2 eventually) and I'm looking for, ideally, an all-in-one lens I can use for events, portraits, and lowlight. Do you have any recommendations?
Another photographer had suggested the following:
-All in one lens: 18-50mm f 2.8
-For primes (all f 1.4): 16mm, 18mm, 23mm, 33mm, 35mm
While I love that Fuji lenses are small and easy to carry, if I don't need to carry multiple lenses, I'd rather not. Thank you in advance! 🙏
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video. I'm not a big fan of the "all in one lens" because I tend to shoot either tele or ultra wide, so there's no option that really works. The most flexible lens for focal range is the 16-80mm, but it's not a low light lens, so in that case I'd say the 16-55mm f2.8
I don't use a lot of primes, but I'd say you need something longer than you've listed there.
Thank you.
Thanks for the comment
Should I save up for this camera I was looking at the xs10 I want to use the camera for live screaming, and photography
Can't say whether you should save up for it or not, they're very different cameras and it really depends on your needs
Is this giveaway a spam message ?
hi Andy, good review.
As has been pointed out, I think it’s something specific to this style of camera and the XT5 will have the front dial back
Is it easy to use the fn-Buttons on the top right when you have a camera strap attached? They seem to be very close to the strap attachment ...
Ah, sorry, I can't tell you now as I no longer have the camera. I borrowed it for the review
Andy, how would the noise be shooting milky way photos. would you recommend the xt4 for those photos.
I honestly can’t say as I didnt have the chance to try it out, so I can’t compare with the XT4
hi, thank you for this useful statement.
Better get yourself a Nikon Zf. Superb image quality and speed of Z8 for a price of XH2.
Haven't been to impressed with later fuji modells in quite a few aspects. This however looks very very promising!!
I thought it was an excellent all round camera
Thanks for this vid - I was waiting for your thoughts! We use the X-H1 and X-T3 in our studio for commercial, scientific and multi stitched fine art reproduction work so a 40MP X-Trans camera is on the cards! I want the traditional analog style dials and XT-3 style screen for low and high level vertical shooting so hopefully an X-T5 will go back to that traditional configuration (hate the X-T4).
I would imagine the Pixel shift technology would be incredibly useful for fine art reproduction work
@@AndyMumford not as much as you would think as evenly lighting and getting a really sharp image from a 1m x 1.5m artwork with a single 160MP capture is no where near as high fidelity as six or nine overlapping 40MP close up captures stitched together.
@@AndyMumford any idea the size of compressed RAW?
8K is useful for stabilized 4K in post I would think. but is 6.2K sufficient?
Well, it depends on how much you need to stabilise, but it gives you almost 2000 more pixels along the longest edge, so that's quite a bit of room to crop
Great review! What about dynamic range at base iso? Is it better than the old sensor?
Thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful. I didn’t do a serious test, but I certainly didn’t feel that the dynamic range suffered at all
@@AndyMumford Thanks for the quick reply! Do you think shadow recovery is better with this new sensor?
Awesome videos and content Andy! I just switched over to this camera and was out shooting the 70-300 yesterday, I was not able to get focus when I zoomed out to 300mm, I had to go back to 70mm and adjust the focus as I continued to zoom back towards 300mm! My question is, have I missed a setting in the camera or is there something wrong with the lens or camera?
Thanks
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the review. As for teh focus issue, it's not something I've come across
@@AndyMumford thanks so much Andy! Have a great weekend!
For sports photos, is the XH2 more reliable than the XT5?
For sports photos there's not really any difference between the XT5 and XH2. The XH2S however has faster autofocus than both
Thanks for your videos .
Sorry, that's not an issue I've come across so I'm not sure I can help
I’m still confused what to buy, should I go with XH2 or X T5 😢
Only you can decide that
missing from your list of zooms is the 16-80mm i would assume it should be on it since it's the lens that comes in the kit
Nope, the 16-80 isn't optimised for the 40mp sensor. We asked about this when we met with Fuji at Fujikina, and they said that while the lens wasn't optimised, you'd still see a big improvement in resolution with it. Same as with the 10-24 etc
@@AndyMumford then why is it the kit lens?
Hi Andy, For the lenses that do not resolve the full 40mp , will the resultant image dimensions be slightly lesser?
Hi Arun. No, the dimensions of the image will be exactly the same, but when you zoom into the image you'll see a softness or lack of detail at a pixel level
this is the camera i want to replace my a7rIII, it finally has some specs that outperform it
Enjoy it, it's an amazing camera
15:00 wow, the XH2 image looks a lot more subtle, less artificial sharpening and more nuance in the shadows, i think. The XS10 , which is the camera I have, looks good too, but a touch overworked. Did you use the same settings on both? At least the white balance seems diferent. Thanks for the video
The settings are the same for both, and the white balance should be the same too
If you're shooting with the larger glass like fujifilm 100-400 or larger primes the X H2 works really well. I don't find that I need the battery grip while using the 100-400 lens.
This is true, and it's one of the things I really like about the deeper grip cameras like the XH and XS series
