It’s interesting to hear to his take on Disenchanted and he basically said everything wrong with it. It just lacked the magic, wit, charm of the first one. Great interview Korey.
Directing a movie is so fickle and inconsistent. Kevin’s situation is one of the reasons as to why I will never use my Bachelor’s Degree in Film to become a movie director. The studio executives make notes of changes to the movie to the point where directors and actors become disillusioned by Hollywood.
Got the notifications on for these gems. You're a great host, I've even watched that university guest speaking video that you did lol Can't wait to start this one
I never knew A Goofy Movie was low budget. It's a legit gorgeous movie. Korey is a great interviewer as usual. You can tell he genuinely wants to know the answers to the questions he asks.
Went to see A Goofy Movie at Quentin Tarantino's revival movie theater in L.A. Both showings were sold out! Even the manager of the theater was surprised it sold out so quickly. He thought Space Jam was the one that was gonna get sold out first lol
I’m actually kinda surprised that Kevin Lima hasn’t been directing other original movie projects since Disney’s “Enchanted”, which was released in cinemas, all the way back in 2007. I wonder what would of happened if he tried to find work at Disney again and, maybe even considered, directing either a Marvel or Star Wars movie. 🤔

@@Hectorferjr2 I see you're a Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan. I am too. I've read all the books (including the Rowley spinoffs), and watched all the movies (both the live-action films in theaters, and the animated films on Disney+). It's nice to meet you, Hector. 🙂
12:00 Powerline, in my opinion, is the first positive Black character in a Disney movie. Not a stereotype and not a "tom" or subservient. He's hard working and supremely talented and became the biggest star in the world! We love him and those who brought him to life to this day! Now even more than ever.
Growing up with Goof Troop, I thought all the characters were black. I was just a dumb white kid from Canada, was a huge fan of the Fresh Prince (wow, that didn’t age well) and believed that everything cool was synonymous with black. I didn’t know who voiced the characters at the time, though I seem to remember recognizing Pauly Shore’s voice.

you can tell kevin has some resentment towards the industry with how they treat animation projects, how far they've come only to get shelved if not outright cancelled. his monkey project you can tell he had high hopes for, maybe still some but resigned that it will most likely never will be made in the vision he worked hard for. and ofc the studio not asking him to be part of the enchanted sequel, which one would think it would be a no-brainer to have him on board and ofc the film was not as good without his direction. kevin has a lot to be proud of still and look forward to seeing his works.
the goofy movie was always pure nostalgia to me.i remember the the art style was soo cool looking! i also loved brave little toaster.imo i think toy story 3 took some of the ideas From Brave little toaster.
He was the heart of Enchanted, this guy made probably the 2nd or 3rd best live-acton/animated movie since Who frame roger rabbit. if he diren't tell the writer to not do another draft of the script, the movie wouldn't been a whole different thing. this dude basically retired on his prime after this movie
Kevin Lima. I've seen all his films from A Goofy Movie to Tarzan to my all time favourite Enchanted. I think Kevin Lima should have directed Disenchanted instead of Adam Shankman. Also his directors commentary on Enchanted is very interesting
Loved this interview. A goofy movie is one of the best. I think the music in it, is ingrained in all who watched it growing up. I also think its a great story that shows the struggles of not only growing up but for kids to see what parents go through a little bit. Its def one ive watched the most. Itll forever be a core memory, because it was one of those movies i could watch with my 10 year older brothers, and we all laughed and loved. Thank you kevin ❤️
My favourite animated movie growing up. I had a massive crush on Roxanne and it was the first Disney movie that really spoke to me when I became a teenager. I don’t know why, but I thought growing up that the characters were all black. Maybe I just thought black was cool. I’d been a massive fan of the series too. The only Disney movie brave enough to write a character who is openly high as a kite for the entire movie. Kevin Lima is sneaky.
This man and his wife are casually is involved in creating Disney magic. Absolute legend. Just watched the goofy movie and it is such a special movie. Well done sir your a rockstar
A Goofy Movie should be taught in classrooms. Period
In African American Studies

A goofy movie will always be my favorite and it still continues to inspires me! What a great movie about a father and son

It’s disappointing that Kevin wasn’t invited to direct Disenchanted.
He would have did a better job than Adam Shankman.

Oh man, Tarzan is my favorite Disney movie to this day. I saw the opener as a kid in after school care while waiting to leave and it stuck with me.
I saw it in theaters and yeah the opening is bad ass.
Y'all rewriting history, we all know Thomas Washington directed The Goofy Movie

Heck even Don Bluth had such a hard time with Hollywood that he downright quit after Titan A.E. flopped.
Fantastic interview, very humble guy, down to earth. Thanks DT crew!
Cheddah🧀
thanks Korey.✍🏽
This one was for the culture. Appreciate it!
He also made "102 dalmatians". "Disenchanted" was a mess, couldn't agree more.
Kevin also directed 102 Dalmatians.
Poor guy seems like hes choking up when hes talking about the monkey film.

For the record: Asha's an Official Disney Princess.
The resume…the RANGE! I loved this interview sm. Please see if we can get his wife Brenda on as well! I’d love to hear from her

The Brave Little Toaster versus Toy Story.
If only Richard Donner, Sam Raimi, Marc Webb, Tim Story, and Colin Trevorrow were able to reject studio notes.
he put the image in my head of live action dog headed people now I want the live action movie
That would be terrifying! 😄
Soul Almighty here! At the suggestion of a live action version, I can’t help but think of Dog Boy on MTV’s Liquid Animation show.
Whoa I missed this episode, I always liked his direction with A Goofy Movie, it felt even more cinematic than Tarzan to me :P
Small thing but I appreciate the "we" at 59:30. Shows that Kevin has internalized his responsibility to the USA's animation scene.

I thought Disenchanted was okay but nowhere near as as good as the first one. I didn’t know they changed directors no wonder it felt really off lol
Great interview. Love Goofy movie and Tarzan
Great interview
Goofy movie is so great because I could relate to it depending where I am in life. As a kid I was on Max's side. As an adult Goofys
idk even as an adult I'm on Max's side. Goofy needs to learn how to communicate with his son better.
Loved this one! He's one of the best!

Goofy movie is still my favorite animated movie of all time!
These interviews are solid gold.
My wife... BRENDA CHAPMAN
Hold up I thought the director was black
The Atlanta episode is a meme
I don't want a remake, but I'm totally down for a sequel. Let's see where Adult Max is up to these days.
