Truck looks great. I'd love one similar. Not show worthy but a really nice daily. Like your concerns about the slight metal imperfections are perfect for me. Like I guess I'd hi build primer and paint and drive it. Anyway, that looks beautiful
Thats a nice looking truck! will sub and see how the build goes, will be interesting, just bought a 56 GMC recently and started to get the bug for them
Awesome! Thanks. The '54 Pontiac and our new baby girl is taking a little more of my attention at the moment. I do plan on getting back at it soon though👍
Best way is to buy a new grille. The fastening points will all be clean and evident for you to see. I don't know when I'll be reinstalling the grille yet. Thanks for watching.
JP, great work! I can tell the thought and planning you put into each step.....hey, what headers are those? I've read that the fit is tricky for an LS on the original truck frame, maybe because your engine sits further back you have extra space for the long primary tubes? There are a ton of different "LS swap" headers online, eBay, etc., I'm sure one of them has to fit these trucks.
Thanks! And yeah you bet, lots of planning and research. I noticed allot of people complaining about the header clearance on these trucks so I did lift and recess the engine about 1". These are Ultimate Headers and the engineers there helped allot with drawings and dimensions. I actually raised the front crossmember into the frame rails so the engine wasn't sitting high above the axle center line.
@@jp.lagrange thanks for the reply JP. I'm planning to start on a 1952 truck this summer. I'm going to check into the recessed firewall to help fit my lq4 and give me more options for fans and accessory/pulleys. I really want to fit long tube headers to get that exhaust rumble just right. I suppose I can raise the motor mounts but don't want the center of gravity up too high. I also have to have AC since i live in the southern USA. There is going to be a lot of hurdles to clear but thats part of the hobby. Lots of test fitting for sure! I subbed and looking forward to learning from you.thanks
@@robertkrupa2552 you've probably seen those recessed firewall kits? Those should do the trick. I can measure the location of my engine. The headers are about 1/8 or 1/4 from the frame
Hey buddy, thank you! The front is a modified CPP Mustang 2 IFS Coilover kit. It's been modified to sit about 1.5" higher in the frame. The rear is a welder series 4 link Triangulated kit that I also modified. The rear C-notch is also a welder series kit.
@@jp.lagrange nice. Vancouver myself. I’ve got a 49’ and found what appeared to be a 55 rear. Can you tell me. Did the 55 bumper bolt holes line up with the 50 bumper brackets?
@@juliocesarmata1597 they're great trucks to build. Alignment of the front end can be tough but it's a simple truck to put together. Great aftermarket support also. Check out LS Fabrication
@@jp.lagrange i saw in another comment that you modified the mustang 2 sit 1.5 inches into the frame how did you do that do you have any pictures of it?
@@louisgarcia5188 I do have photos of it. I notched the lower crossmember down an additional 1.5" and added 1.5" to the height of the tophat (using 3/16 steel to raise it). I also have double adjustable coilovers
It's not slammed. It has about the same drop you would have seen in the fifties. Once this engine dies I absolutely will install the 6.2L LS I have waiting, I will ensure the engine retains the correct style of the era. As for interior it'll be upgraded with all new wiring, power steering and safer electrical connections, it too will retain the same style from the correct era. I'm sure you don't shit on Chip Foose or Boyd Coddington cars, even though they all had the ugly oversized billet wheels and excessively chopped tops. (I do highly respect those fellas though👍)
What amazing work. Can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks Rick! Appreciate it man. Building's the best part so far

Nice old truck...
Thanks man!
Very nice work, I have a ‘49 on a S10 Sub to follow along
Lots more to go, I've started to get back at it again. Should come along faster now. I hope haha
Do you have the part number for the headers ?
Yeah, there's another video I posted with the part numbers given. I'd have to dig up the receipts otherwise.
Ok thanks I’ll start checking out your other videos
Do you have a video of how the front grill is removed? I also have a 51' very rough but want to improve the look of the grill. Enjoying your process.

Do you have any measurements on where you mounted your visor? Truck looks great.
Best I can do is measure up the holes on the a pillar where I drilled for the mount.
@@jp.lagrange that help me get an idea of where to start. Did you just self tap it to the a pillar? Thanks.
@@willweber5537 yeah I used some little self tapping screws. They're tiny.

235 75 15 . Coker whitewall radials
