    I remember playing this at Dave & Busters a long time ago! The throttle/lever controls took some getting used to, but I loved how they designed the big cabinet just like the cockpit of Anakin's podracer! Great presentation and gameplay, even if its way shorter than the console versions! That said, that logo joke was a missed oppurtunity for Watto to scream out "SEGA!" after he fixes it. :)

      Thank you, Nicholas. I thought the original controllers were pretty clumsy, but they were ofcourse just like in the movie so it was all very impressive. Here I'm using rather small analog sticks on panel for a baseball game that I rewired between the IO-board and panel connectors, to play this game well. I don't have those original controllers but I was thinking of using a pair of old throttles from Afterburner or Thunderblade, they're pretty smooth and proper sized.

    I love this arcade game. It's so rare for me to come by this classic racing game nowadays. I want it back at Dave and Buster's! This and Star Wars Trilogy Arcade. So nostalgic! I can't find this at any arcade close to where I live in the Pittsburgh area. The last one I could remember seeing in Pennsylvania was in an arcade at Hershey Park.

    This should’ve been the one ported to the Sega Dreamcast not the garbage Infograms one. Also the Sega Hikaru system also shared architecture with the Sega Dreamcast so this would’ve been an easy one to port! If Infrograms didn’t stick their nose in bringing their version home it could’ve happened

    I have something of a love hate relationship with this. On one hand, I love the presentation, the speed and the control method, so unique for a racing game. But the problem is that this game kept crashing when I played it. It's a real shame. I didn't lose a whole lot of money on it or nothing, but I actually wanted to play, it was so cool looking.

      Simple : Dreamcast/N64/PC version >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Arcade. On PC 900 km/h = 900 km/h. On Arcade 900 km/h = 80 km/h

    • @Overlord277

      Consoles and PC don't give the metric units. It's absent so we don't know for sure if it is km/h

      It is possible to rely on the Sega Arcades and see clearly the abrupt speed difference comparing to Daytona, Indy 500, Sega Rally, and so on. It is even possible to base on the walls (sides) and see that the same distance is traveled much faster in the PC version. SEGA made a lot of mistakes by reducing the feeling of speed in that game to make it easier to ride. Take the PC version, put on the Boonta Classic track and you'll see what 700, 800 or even 900km / h really are.

      Good news for anyone interested in that Windows 98 version, there's a modernized version of it recently released on gog.com that'll work just fine on modern Windows systems. Sadly still no way to experience the arcade version on PC yet... I think the 98 version feels faster but I spent a lot more time on the cabinet at the local arcade which miraculously is still standing (with a lap record for Sebulba on Tatooine Easy with my initials that still hasn't been toppled in the last 15 years :), and the arcade version felt way more like what you saw in the movie, not just because of the better graphics, but because the podracers had a feeling of momentum and inertia to them that I just didn't really get in the PC version.

      Yeah. But the PC outputs the picture onto my game screen in the cabinet. So when I play it's actually the windows fullscreen captured image. I'll show you a pic of my setup here: www.albyhus2.se/_eget/Recording/The_setup_01.jpg
      And here's how it looks when playing: www.albyhus2.se/_eget/Recording/The_setup_03.jpg
      The final clip I then convert to larger format maintaining the 60 fps, so that youtube will show the clip at 60fps. The original capture it 640x480 something.

    • @uncletom1971
      @uncletom1971  4 роки тому

      Yes, I think the tracks in the console versions lack realism. By realism I mean textures and surroundings which provide players with some sort of reference to an actual place, not the actual shape of the track, though I find the console tracks a bit too outrageous. I guess they didn't want to make that same game on the consoles so they made new tracks which weren't as realistic or detailed as in SEGA's original version. Remember that SEGA's version of the game resembles the actual film, where on the consoles you get simpler abstract of the environments, but a whole bunch of insanely wild tracks.

      For your info, dudes, I don't make any money on youtube. What little adverts pop up in this clip is due to the game's usage of patended music from the film. I get plain squat to my bank account. I did this video to show the awesome game that SEGA made back in the day when games were games, and not bloated chunks of CG animation. So there you go, I'm not rich other than I can afford my monthly dues, as well as a limited amount of toys that make my life appear happier than it really is. Now go get some fresh air and sunshine, and have a rest from the computer screen. It tends to make you 'see things' that aren't real. Cheers!
