Swordland is probably one of the most iconic soundtracks from the Sword Art Online series and it's still being used in important key moments in the currently airing SAO Alicization Anime series. It's one of my favorite compositions from Yuki Kajiura, mainly because of the brilliant harmonic progression in the majestic main theme.
I have already uploaded a piano arrangement of this main theme on my UA-cam Channel 6 years ago, which has become very popular in the following years. Also, did you know that both me, Theishter and Kyle Landry were uploading Swordland within one week, unbeknownst to each other? It was one of the craziest coincidences I have ever witnessed and it was really fun to compare the different piano cover versions from the three of us.
However, after a few years my Swordland video has mysteriously become unsearchable on UA-cam. When you are looking up "swordland piano" in the UA-cam search bar, my video will simply not appear even until today. This is the only video from my 170+ uploads which has become completely "invisible" on UA-cam. That's why I decided to finally re-record it for this weeks upload to make it easier to find.
This arrangement is almost exactly the same as the 2014 piano version, and the only difference is the upgraded sound quality (and the added Glissando at the end). The most difficult part to play is still the left hand in 00:21 because you need both stamina and rhythmic precision to endure these seemingly endless arpeggio waves.
The right hand octave jumping in 02:38 is a technique I really favored during my 2013-2015 arrangement style, because I wanted to maximize the volume of the piano sound. I also used this technique in my piano arrangement for "Attack on Titan" OST as well during the climax (see link below). Nowadays, I would rather use scales or rhythmic variations to fill in the gaps between the melodies instead of octave jumps.

SAO - SWORLAND is, I believe, the most legendary anime song of all time. It represents everything and anything one might describe using words...
It shows all the colours of anime. It shows sadness. It shows courage. It shows love, pain and despair. The sound makes you visualise darkness and light. It's a journey from A to Z in the world of anime and then... where words fail to convert to us the emotions... the song still does...
And every single one of those emotions is transferred to us by the most amazing piano cover there is... created by the greatest man to ever pick up a piano...

Oh boy, this brings back so many memories! Sword Art Online was my very first anime, so it has special place in heart, along with this arrangement, the very first Animenz arrangent I actually managed to learn. It felt like such a big accomplishment at the time, I was ecstatic when I managed to stumble my way through the entire piece for the first time.

Thank you for uploading this song. This was perhaps the first song that got me subscribed to your channel and it is definitely a memorable one for me.
I remember when you and Theishter came to Perth, Australia for the Live Australia / NZ 2018 Tour, on the day before the performance, we had a masterclass at one of the local schools. At the end of the class, we (the students) got a chance to pick some songs so that either you or Theishter can play for us. And I nominated Swordland, and you gladly played it less than a meter away from me. I couldn’t have asked for more and this truly made my day and I will forever remember it. Until today, I am still practising this song, definitely doesn't sound not as good as you (and will never be), but this brings me back memories.

Sword land! Wow great to see this again, this piece has quite a legacy for you I guess! Besides the story you put in the description, I remember how you injured your hand at the time practicing this, and the large amount of anticipation both the viewers and you had at the time hoping it would be a smooth recovery to complete the song and finally upload it and return to playing. Ill never forget the video you uploaded of your dad recording you playing sword land again for the first time on the upright piano in your house and the big sigh of relief at the end as you looked at your hand! Haha 👌😎👏 good memories!

This piece was so brilliantly written. The modulation into the main theme and in the theme is so perfectly designed for a series; it can be used for extended scenes without ever feeling repetitive

I just started watching SAO and I'm only on episode 10 or 11 but I've literally fell in love with this song from it!!!!!!!!! OMG I love it!!!!!!!
Watching SAO for the first time. Something that really caught me off guard so far, is how they use this soundtrack a lot in intense fights. I really like the part at 1:10 and I finally found this soundtrack on yt.
So far, the show has been great and I hope it'll stay this way.
P.s. it is funny how I decided to watch it in 2022 not knowing that the story takes place in 2022.
I was genuinely surprised how I accidentally timed it right.
Also... considering that this show came out in 2012, I can see what the developers were trying to foreshadow and see whether they were right or not.
So basically, I am able to have kind of a 'live experience'
