The Stoics considered discipline a virtue, along with other related qualities like perseverance, endurance, high-mindedness, and self-control. The Stoics favored hard work and spending their days wisely. Seneca, for example, urges us not to waste our time and act now as life is short. Marcus Aurelius points to nature, concluding that we naturally tend to be hard-working. This video explores Stoic philosophy that may help develop self-discipline.

I have this quote in front of my bed, it's the last thing I see when I go to sleep, and the first when I woke up: "becoming rich is hard, being poor is hard, choose your hard" and this quote helped me a lot to improve in life, and after discovering stoicism, I change my perception to rich and poor, not about just money or materials, but about the quality of life, thoughts, and mindfulness.

This reminds me of writing my first few novels, building the self-control and discipline required to create the book was like building a set of muscles. It was hard at first, only a few hundred words per day. But, like anything, it became easier with practice and I could increase the mental weights to a few thousand words per day.
    Discipline is freedom!

    Yeah,discipline is a superpower
After my college graduation, I want to be financially independent and take responsibility of my parents, so I selected a specific area which I thought ok for me. Then I started to work, slowly and calmly [Time and patience are the strongestof warriors]After understanding the basics, little by little I began to enjoy my work. Now I am have an earning and doing the work that I choosed to do.
Doing things are much easier after certain time man, because you will unconsciously find time for it, even in the midset of troubles.
When I started to fix myself. The one thing I want to cultivate the most was discipline. Firstly I started to read, when it became my habit I started to workout/playing, then started to Expertise In a specific area for earning bread, now it all becomes a habit and still going on ,much easier.

@Einzelgänger I appreciate the perspective you take. There is truth in ideas that have been repeated throughout history. However, there doesn’t seem to be much psychology to reinforce the ideas. How one is taught self-discipline is hugely important; one can have self-discipline and appear to be noble from lookers-in, but deeply hate themselves or intensely berate themselves from the inside when the schedule or work isn’t done properly. I agree, self-discipline is important, but if you don’t love yourself as well, self-discipline can destroy the self.

Many people said I would not complete my degree because of the language barrier I had when I moved to another country.
However that just made me not want to give up.
While others around me dropped the degree all together, I stayed on to the end.
It wasnt easy. There are times I wanted to throw in the towel but I wouldnt allow myself to give up unless I had to.
Being determined requires being stubborn. Stubborness isn't always a bad trait.

.My spouse and I are adding a variety of stocks/ETF to my present holdings for the long term, We've set aside $250k to start following inflation-indexed bonds and stocks of companies with solid cash flows, I believe it is a good time to capitalize on the market for long-term gains, but it wouldn't hurt to know means of actualizing short term profit.

Buying a stock is easy, but buying the right stock without a time-tested strategy is incredibly hard. hence I will suggest you get yourself a financial-Advisor that can provide you with entry and exit points on best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist.

Having an investment adviser is the best way to go about the market right now, especially for near retirees, I've been in touch with a coach for awhile now mostly cause I lack the depth knowledge and mental fortitude to deal with these recurring market conditions, I nettd over $220K during this dip, that made it clear there's more to the market that we avg joes don't know

Today I just recorded myself saying that I don't love myself enough because I keep putting things in my body that are not good for me. .. nicotine. Processed foods. Etc. Not wearing a seat belt, or driving fast.means I dont care
I have 9 days off of work to give me time to withdrawal and to quit.
This video helps me to realize that I was right in my thinking.

If you're struggling to get things done, get tested for ADHD. ADHD manifestation varies greatly from person to person. The inattentive type of ADHD can present as lack of motivation and procrastination, inability to focus, lack of day-to-day memory, inability to follow a schedule, restlessness, constantly stressed, and many other possible symptoms. Starting even the most simple of tasks can feel like a huge burden. It can feel near impossible to put the controller down, put the phone down, turn the TV off; the brain is starved for dopamine and will turn to whatever easy stimulus provides it, regardless of your higher ambitions.
The inattentive type (formerly ADD) is easier to miss than the hyperactive type. If you have unaddressed ADHD, you will likely fall short of your potential, even if you are intelligent. With the right medicine, you will be able to focus on what is important to you rather than getting "sucked in" or "stuck" consuming entertainment. You will still have to put in the work, but the right medicine can make a huge difference.

The symptoms of ad(h)d sound like a massive excuse people give themselves. Like a by-product of our mediocre generation. Most people are so undisciplined in life that they develop all these symptoms. Myself included (I am not looking down on people who don't have their sh.t together. I don't and I just turned 30). Yet strangely, everytime I implement discipline into my life, I am suddenly not suffering from any anxiety, laziness, unattentiveness, impulsivity, etc. Everytime I go for instant gratification, I am back to my "ADD" self.
If you learnt about the dsm-5 history you wouldn't trust any of these psychiatric pseudo illnesses. The people who made the DSM themselves call it a fraud. edit: I just saw a nurse in a psychiatric unit the other day because I was feeling depressed as always. He said himself that the DSM was linked to the pharmaceutical industry and that strangely there was a medicine as a remedy for each symptom listed below each "disease"'s description. He also admitted that the concept of "spectrum" in mental "illnesses" was a very effective way to medicalize more people. He made sure he would refer me to a psychiatrist who wouldn't force me to use drugs to feel better.

@@sofitocyn100 My manager, who went to a prominent college in the 70’s, said that he saw people fail out of college by playing cards, gambling, and going to the movies. Prior to the technology era, the symptoms manifested in slightly different ways.
My symptoms became apparent back in 6th grade. My entire school life prior to graduating high school, I didn’t watch TV and video games were minimal during the school year. My focus was on my schoolwork, yet my symptoms got worse over that time period. I have tried to “out-discipline” my ADHD symptoms from my early 20’s until my early 30’s and the symptoms continued to get worse. In my 30’s, I finally opted for medicine.
ADHD does have physiological aspects. Low blood pressure is a good stand-alone indicator for ADHD. Some cases of ADHD respond well to medicine that lowers blood pressure, which in turn increases blood flow to the brain. Some cases are related to sleep apnea, and medicines that reduce respiratory tissue collapse can help. As for more general cases, we don’t know the cause (the chemical imbalance / hormone deficiency model [for depression, but also applies to ADHD] has been disproven), but we do know that medicine can help reduce ADHD symptoms.
After graduating, I’d love to do a buddhist retreat for 3-6 months and see if I can train a lower baseline. If self-discipline works for you, great, but it’s not going to work for everyone and denying the existence of ADHD isn’t going to help either. ADHD has decreased my quality of life over the past decade and led to delays in my education, career and retirement planning, family planning, and more. If it weren’t for my family’s support, I would have slipped through the cracks years ago. Hopefully broader awareness will help prevent people from experiencing some of the pitfalls I went through.
