I read about this tractor in 1978 and thought wow, that's big. In those days JD, Case, and IH all topped out about 300 hp. Kinda lost track of all things Bud-like for many years. Started watching the Welker videos and this one popped up last Monday (20th). I had known the 747 was in Iowa for a few years, but only thought that someday when we go by, I'll wander off the interstate to see it (about 20 miles away). But this video and the THREAT that its going back to Montana prompted me to make the trip today, 153 miles one way. Wow! It's amazing. I so wish it could have been started up so I could have heard it, but just to climb up on the ladder and sit in the cab a second. Awesome. She lost what appears to be 10 inches in height from the old tires, but she gained almost 3 feet in width. Thanks, Welkers for all the videos. Looking forward to seeing the 747 working again. She's a little rough in the cab and needs a little refinement, like maybe your GPS system??? Did you ever find out what it weighs? BTW, in case you didn't know it, they have this video on continuous loop play in the museum meeting room on the big screen.
YESSSS finally who would have thought that a tractor from the 70's would still be a workhorse today, it was built to last centuries. I hope they give that ole Detroit some solid hours!!
To my knowledge we dont even have equipment that that thing could pull that would put a decent strain on it, that motor will probably not be stressed for a long time lol.
@@ACE-ek5bo This tractor beats all of the new-ones with 800+ hp, you know why, because it has HP, not only that its so easy to work on, it could pull plows 24/7 if it had maintenance of oil and air etc
I absolutely adore this thing. This was actually built for a farmer down in old river, which is about 15 minutes from me in Bakersfield California. If you go out there there’s still a few of the big buds floating around, unfortunately within the next 5 years or so they’ll probably be illegal to operate thanks to our governor. Thanks so much for the Instagram pics and the video, that tractor is an absolute work of art.
that's not true, when brand new or fresh from an Genuine Detroit dealer rebuild yes, but every one of our rebuild were dry and tight, the stupid thing is GM has a special seal for the blower shafts, but it a special order, and it makes a BIG difference in how much oil they leak, but if you just walk in and ask for a seal and gasket set, you get the bad seals.
All i say is, it gives some goosepumps to see that massive one of a kind machine. Can't say how happy i am that it hasn't been scrapped. Piece of history, big piece!

@Wikkitt Klown Probably you can drive it on HVO Bio100 -diesel and have zero CO2 emissions and this old big stroke engines have low NOx and soot is a easy fix if you don't use it commercial. But of course take them to Montana anyway!
That was awesome!!! Such a huge tractor swallowing up the road and shoulders. MASSIVE!!!
Shame the Welker's don't have the "747" on their farm. Awesome doesn't describe that machine. Great video, cheers :)
Considering that only 1 was ever made by Big Bud just that it is still around is amazing in itself
Just build SN #002 from scratch!
Tbh their farm is still waay too small to have something like that in their fleet, with how youtube is going for them right now maybe in a couple years!
Great machine huge farm tractor 👍 thanks for sharing this video.
When pulling a dirt pan the solid tires work wonders in loose soil compared to duals
If it went 12 mph now it goes 14 lol. Amazing piece of machinery!!!
The sound of that V16 starting up and running is a wonderful sound. I would give anything to have the startup and idling sound as my ringtone
What a beast! Cool video, thanks for sharing it.
So, the plan is that the Williams Brothers will take it back to Montana and they are planning to put it to work behind a 82 foot seed drill. I will just say this. Scott Welker looks like a long lost Williams brother. Regardless, I look forward to the 747 working again and that 16 cylinder Detroit screaming. Great video!
Have a special hitch made and run three seed carts/air drills side-by-side?
@@timothybarney7257 Nah, that would be excessive. Vaederstad, who owns Seedhawk, makes 80+ foot drills.
@@mammoet1133 Lots of companies make 80+ foot drills anymore.
J. A. G. Example being Borgault. They make a 100ft drill
@@mammoet1133 excessive, very probably, fun to see? Hell yeah!
Always knew the 747 was big , but after watching this video I realize it is truly immense.
I’m sure that seeing a tractor like this one on video doesn’t do it any justice it looks massive
OMG! Best Welker video ever! Absolutely amazing
Can you imagine cruising down the field with a huge piece of tillage equipment. Wow that would be awesome
Like a 130ft seeder !
But then you must have an even "Bigger Bud" when you're stuck in the mud! Lol
@@uppsalahazzemarkstedt2759 With the tires that tractor has you won't get stuck unless you drive it where you shouldn't , Then you unhook from your implement and drive out. Now pulling out the implement that's a different story. Been there and it wasn't fun.
Wonder how many bottom plow that would pull. Looks awesome🇺🇸🇺🇸
Take a 620 Quadtrac any day, why? Because if I break down I can actually get parts within an hour...
Thanks, All who helped, & interesting overview . I am old Indiana Farm Boy( Noble/ Kosciusko County), relocated to,HELENA Valley, MT….
I thought I heard ""BIGFOOT"" trembling in his monster tires lol. That's one Big Bud my friend God Bless and stay safe.
Oh you can scrub that 747 smell off...but can you get that 747 look out of your eyes? Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing that momentous day with us!
YES IT IS MR. BIG BUD HIM SELF LETS GOOOOOO. 🇺🇸
This huge thing probably uses an entire tube of grease every time it is needed!!!!!!!! god bless. makes me smile seeing you guys have this really cool experience!
AND it aint fitting in that shed anymore. It barely fit out with the old skinnier tires but not any more. Grab like 10 tarps!
Finally I have been waiting for this video!!!
this is crazy! I read about this tractor in english Wiki... But just now i understand who are you guys ! Hello from Russia and thank you for this BIG BUD!
4 thumbs down!? Lol really? Must be the old tires. 😂 Great video as always Welkers! 🇺🇸
Urban America could learn a lot from rural America. Getting a police escort to take your massive tractor for a lap around town while guys hang off the side. No health and safety bs and good people enjoying the day
