The new doors are nice, but any idea of when the first Tangara with the tech upgrade will roll out? The Tangaras are my favorite in the fleet btw. Of course they've picked up a bit of dirt and wear and tear over the years and the Waratahs feel a bit nicer being how much newer they are, but when you consider that the Tangaras were introduced almost 30 years ago, the fact that they still look and feel completely modern after just a few refurbishments and ride very smoothly is quite an accomplishment. The curved windows on the top deck makes the carriage feel nice and airy too. When the Tangaras do eventually get replaced I hope their replacements will be more of an update of their design. Can't wait for the tech upgrade!

This is also considering that the main T4 suburban services only use T sets because it is easier to use just one set type on the line.
I like the look of the new doors, but if your at an Underground T4 line station, if you have the old doors on a Tangara when coming through a station like those, it looks more like a subway train, (since trains there can arrive and depart quickly). If you have the new doors which "smile", they don't look too much like subway trains, even when arriving and departing quickly.
+trainsandtech I wish they just changed the ExG sets to the new doors, since you get a smoother ride on those, but left the suburban T sets to the old doors to get a resemblance of the old trains that they are, since they don't have as good seats and no luggage racks.

Did you know, some vandalism kick back his Tangara Train Door, and it's not really safe, I seen caught on camera and the Person went to the Rear Carriage and back kick hit for 12 times and Broke his Tangara Train Door, due to Replace with the M set Style Doors so that's why what happen.

Which leads to some opening and closing very fast and with force, and others, doing it every so slowly. Once they fit the new doors, they probably re-adjust the air pressure. Also, the new doors are lighter = less momentum. This is just my assumption ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are Tangara trains unique to Sydney? or should I ask are all Sydney trains unique to Sydney? does the government give a list of needs to the manufacturer and they custom design a set of trains for the city?
They did use the Tangara double decker trains in Melbourne for a short stint in the 1990’s , but removed them from service eventually ( I don’t know why).

TransportofNSWBus T52 had its tone changed to that older voice as well a few weeks ago. Other sets I’m aware of that have this voice are T74, T5, T100 and T107.

Tangaras seems to have two door systems, sounding different from the other. First one: 1:46, 2:21, 2:55 Second one: 4:48, 5:05, 5:22 But I've heard both sounds, on both old AND new doors, although in this video, the old doors use the first one, and the new doors use the second one :/
Glen’s Transport Vlogs G set carriage numbers were numbered from OD6801 to OD6841, ON5801 to ON5820, and ONL5851 to ONL5870. Cars OD6831, ON5816, ONL5866 and OD6832 are the only known ones to have been scrapped as far as I’m aware, as those four cars belonged to G7, from the infamous 2003 Waterfall crash.

They began Tangara rollouts in 1988 as part of a BiCentennial Project. So, they have been around longer if the originals are still operational.
The reason why the tangaras got new doors, was to stop people from kicking the panels on the old doors.

trainsandtech Actually, all of the Tangara T sets now have the new doors, even the ones that were former G sets.

Yes. All of our trains are custom designed for our needs.

The old Tangara doors used to hang down and wobble when fully opened. Very poorly designed to begin with.
