That's actually pretty strong. And that crack isn't that bad considering how it got that crack (tossed up in the air). Finally, a phone that doesn't compromise durability for style and build quality.
Abe If you put a tempered protector on, then you really wouldn't need a rugged phone anymore. Seriously, this phone is perfect for folks who want a more durable phone that's not rugged and also keeps style and build quality.
This is *WHY* Tech Reviewers and people need to stop obsessing over PRETTY PHONES thats made out of Aluminium or Glass! God how hard to understand that durability matters when it come to a phone. Glad LG still understand this with a removable back and SD card slot are added benefits!
+BatmansButt Butler I have an HTC One M7. I don't use a case, got it on release, dropped it a few times... it is the prettiest phone (to me, even prettier than new versions) and it still is perfect other than very minor 2 scratches in the edge.
+BatmansButt Butler its the manufacturing process, it is easier to make thin aluminum or glass, but steel it's more difficult as it's brittle (but strong). remember we want thinner parts to fit bigger batteries and camera with many layers of lens and OIS.
+BatmansButt Butler I think this is a pretty phone, looks solid and durable. No need for glossy plastic or glass that becomes a scratch and fingerprint magnet. LG managed to make a solid phone with good materials (316L steel is the standard used for metal watch cases, from inexpensive to premium brands). All of this without sacrficing the removable battery and the microSD slot.
+Ame Nightcore Screen is nothing new, it's gorilla glass 4. Only thing that makes it durable is back and rim and that is enough for the most of the time unless you dropped it on the face.
It's tough. My LG V10 was on a towel at the pool. The towel was picked up quickly, which sent the phone flying. Hit the metal on chair, then the concrete. No case or glass protector. Nicked the side rail and the phone only has a small hairline crack that you can't really see. It's survived a ton of drops too without any protection. The nicks and scratches to me are like battle scars and look cool to me.
I went to a smartphone accessory shop to purchase screen cover for my V10. When I talked to the man who works there, he told me he met a customer who owns V10. His V10 was run over by a car, yet the only damage it suffered was Wifi functionality. No crack or anything.
8 months later. My V10 after tons of drops, and horrible ones. still in near perfect conditions. Except for the screen scratch, which is a known CG problem. The thinner CG screens get, the less resistant they are to scratch, however durability increases
Same here, got mine in December 2015. The few nicks on the metal sides and few scratches on the squishy plastic as well as scratches on the camera ring but it still holds up. I've just been experiencing problems where when I set the phone down harder than normal, It'll reset probably because the battery pops out temporarily. Super annoying.
Mines in mint condition so I ordered 9H tempered glass AND a X-One 3rd Extreme Shock Eliminator film that's also 5H and "suppose" to withstand a shit load of abuse. So with a Spigen case this puppy should withstand the construction site I work at.
This completely sold me on the phone. My g3 was unusable after a gentle drop out of my car and that was really the only thing keeping me from maybe getting this phone. It helped a lot, this review! Thank you!
all these new phones and android M updates, this is a LOT videos pumping out from you guys. i cant even catch up to the news and learning all these new phones myself. great work android authority. now double the videos by making phone comparison videos ;)
I upgraded to the V10 from the G2 about a week ago. I'm very impressed with how this phone held up. Even though the screen was broken, it still worked. That's something the G2 couldn't handle. I cracked the screen on the G2 and it lost all functionality...and the crack wasn't even as bad as it was in this video. The fact that it still worked after breaking in this video comforts me. I currently have a case and tempered glass on it... it looks nice with the case, but sometimes I like to take the case off.
these videos are so valuable when it comes to deciding phone selections. There's a lot to consider, and durability drop testing helps me decide. Thanks for a great video.
If I recall correctly the military's prototype drone for a soldier to carry in a backpack is quite unique. Upon landing it breaks into pieces that can be reassembled, and they said it helps dissipate the energy. So if we take the same concept to this phone when the back comes off from a quite vigorous drop, it fairs pretty well. So in theory that goes to show how iphones break so easily with that glass and uni-body design so it takes the full force of the impact.
Am I the only person with an LG G4 looking at this V10 with kinda a little envy? This phone is awesome!! The G4 is great but now I want this phone. I mean wow.....from the specs to the drop test this phone is pretty awesome. Better than the iphone 6s in my opinion.
+Zakaria Amstro right? just bought my G4 like 4 months ago and LG slaps this shit onto us wtf! They could've at least waited 8 months or a year to release something like this ugggh
I was so stoked that this came out. It is just loaded. What made it a must have for me was the audiophile grade DAC. However this was not released in Canada so I had to get mine via HK. Very pleased with this phone. There is literally nothing that leaves me wanting. I really like the build. I mean, what is the point in hav8ng a luxury build of glass when you are forced to wrap it up in plastic anyways? I will gladly have this great build with replacement battery and expandable memory over a sealed unit that requires a bulky case.
It would have been nice to actually see how well it handled normal drops by stopping once in awhile, and the final drop was unnecessary. The video could have been more informative.
Great job Android Authority. I bought my lg V10 after watching this video. please do remember to make these type of videos with the VS video and reviews. 😇
The thing is though, when the phone is brand new, drop tests survival rate will be higher because the screen has basically no scratches or nicks. (no imperfections in the hardened and tempered glass) However, as the phone takes normal abuse in pockets and stuff, the screen will start showing lots of really small scratches and possibly a deep gouge or two. Other than just being annoying to notice, it is a nucleation point for a fracture to start, making the glass as a whole MUCH easier to break. Once a fracture starts, it really easily spreads out and grows! (and then you wonder why your old GS3 survived drops down concrete staircase, but totally busted with a small 2 foot high drop on a wood floor...)
LG V10 5.7"qhd screen plus a notification screen above = 5.9 (having almost the same footprint of the ip6s+), 64 gb internal expandable up to 2TB, a fingerprint sensor, dual front facing cameras, manual photo and video options for the 16 mp ois/eis enabled camera with a 1.8f lens. removable back cover for the removable battery and sd card slot. an ir blaster with the speakers on the bottom (though dual front firing is still the best at least it is not at the back) stainless steel sides and a rugged back, top and bottom. with improved HI FI audio. wew this phone is looking premium but rugged at the same time. i hope i can trade my g4 for this xD
You should have shown the status of the phone before the throwing up drop test, to precisely know the durability of it in normal day to day use. But however it's looks like a really strong phone. Great video!
Cell phone battery is very heavy. Cell phone battery cover is basically designed to pop-up in collision because battery detachment during collision reduces the damage to phone. So cover pop-up is very normal phenomenon.
Extremely impressed. I had an LG g3 and one day for some odd reason i had my phone in my shirt pocket, and i went to bend down to grab something. My body was maybe 2 feet from the ground? it dropped and the whole entire screen cracked AND it eliminated the touch sensor on my phone rendering it unusable. I was so pissed lol but yeah this phone is a must have.
i dropped it when getting out of the car...i thought i broke my phone but when i looked a it it was thankfully fine but did got a little crack very minor not visible becuz drop was so bad.i would still recommend a back cover to provide extra grip....and to some extent protection. Also equip ur v 10 with a screen protector ..
The metal rails seem to separated from the body a bit after a few drops. Guess the glue holding it are loose from the shock. Either way, I always put a slim TPU case on the phone to protect against scratch and nicks.
The only thing that really bothers me is the camera on any phone really isn't protected. I broke my GS5 camera glass, like really easy. I since have gotten a case but it just adds to the bulk. This thing is massive so I wonder if they will make cases with the camera in mind.
I came across this while looking on your page for a review of the LG stylo. I am subbed to your channel but not everybdy has half a grand or more to get most of the deveices you review and I would expect more from an android group to give more info on a broad range of andriod devices not just limiting your review to higher end things which seem to be most of what you review. My lg v10 get the most terrible drops a phone can ever get and still standing 4yrs on..the most durable phone in all the phones I have ever used. I think this is the best phone ever made..this phone was ahead of time
that was actually pretty good.. especially for people who are more careful with their phones and buy good cases.. for everyday drops this is a pretty good phone
That's actually pretty strong.
And that crack isn't that bad considering how it got that crack (tossed up in the air).
Finally, a phone that doesn't compromise durability for style and build quality.
Just put on a tampered glass screen protector on it and you're essentially set. But it would be a good idea to get a minimal case.
+D13H4RD2L1V3 I never expected to find Nepgear on UA-cam!
Definitely. if I got this phone, I wouldn't bother with a case
Abe If you put a tempered protector on, then you really wouldn't need a rugged phone anymore.
Seriously, this phone is perfect for folks who want a more durable phone that's not rugged and also keeps style and build quality.
+D13H4RD2L1V3 tempered glass screen protector is just an alternative to a plastic screen film...
As an LG user, that was pretty painful to watch.
Just look up "iPhone 6s drop test", that should make the pain go away :)
+Much Doge Thank you so much. That really helped me!
As a Nokia 3310 user I felt proud for LG.
+Henry “The Mad Player” 01 hahahaha
+YouKnowWho As an LG user, I would gladly do the same to my G3.
This is *WHY* Tech Reviewers and people need to stop obsessing over PRETTY PHONES thats made out of Aluminium or Glass! God how hard to understand that durability matters when it come to a phone. Glad LG still understand this with a removable back and SD card slot are added benefits!
different users need different types of phones

Wow this one looks gorgeous. Actually it looks 100x better than the G4 leather back cover.
+AmaymonF Agree
Indeed totally agreed with you
Fml
Eh, your opinion. I like the build of this phone but I don't think the back material looks better than the G4 leather.
unbreakable and yes it would be better with the leather
My iphone screen cracked just from watching this...
''This 7000 series alluminum and Ion Strengthen iTurd will be the most durable thing ever'' Apple 2015
''Just durable'' LG 2015
SHREKT APPLE
lol, aluminium hasn't got anything over steel.
i know, but just saying that Apple got fucked up by LG
+BLaST ZombysZ I'd take a thinner, lighter, and better looking device.
+Alienware Gaming think its beautiful, more weights means more durability, and thinness is just for esthetics because lg cares about the grip
+Alienware Gaming says the one who is named Alienware, lol!
I'm not sure whats more impressive the gold/black car or the phones durability!
the car and the phone I want to know how much this car cost
+TotalTechWar Wanna see drop test of the car? lol
+Adler Ismael Gustave It's just a cheap Scion tC with a couple of mods.
the v10 goes well with that car. both beautiful.
+Med LEB Lol :)))
the screen doesnt crack on ALL those drops?!
+Colin Shum Nope! This phone is crazy
Of course not, it's an LG
Not an Iphone
+fryemartin10 sorry to let you kno, but prior to this phone lg build quality has been terrible
Tyler Mondano lol cx
+Ame Nightcore Screen is nothing new, it's gorilla glass 4. Only thing that makes it durable is back and rim and that is enough for the most of the time unless you dropped it on the face.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the world a man let a feather hit his iPhone and suffered from a glass shard injury
Finally, a phone that doesn't need a case

this was actually impressive
First time watching real life situation drop test like that, that drop jumping off the car always happens to me, Great video man!!

I'd recommend a case with port covers to keep dust out though
clickbait king or you can just buy a port cover for SGD$1-2 /USD0.99
cool! I actually had no idea those existed. thanks!
This completely sold me on the phone. My g3 was unusable after a gentle drop out of my car and that was really the only thing keeping me from maybe getting this phone. It helped a lot, this review! Thank you!

damn lg, this thing looks beast, not only that its also got great specs
It looks so durable yet it looks very premium

@1:55 ... that concrete must have been used to drop test a Nokia 1100 :D (oldie, but goldie)
Great job Android Authority. I bought my lg V10 after watching this video. please do remember to make these type of videos with the VS video and reviews. 😇
For a second I thought the phone dropped and then the sidewalk cracked!!! lol
now couple that with moto x force's shatterproof display and add IP68 certification to that and see what comes off
The Son Of Nokia. coming to a store near you

+Zayd Qasas okey m8 "lol"
+Zayd Qasas A broke college kid can barely get a 1999 corolla.
Ah man, it's been so long since the last drop test video
I feel like buying this phone just to show how pleased I am with LG's efforts in keeping all the tech stuff that most manufacturers skipped this year
I've only had the LG v10 for a couple days and I already love it!
I like how it bounces around when dropped on the rubber part.
is that an ir blaster i c 3:24 ?!?!?!?!?!
Indeed
Yessssss... Probably going to try over the 6p
what car is it in 1:32 ??????
I wish you would have shown us the phone after each separate drop test and not at the end of your very long song .
Is it the Ironman armor at 0:25 in the background 0.0
That stainless steel needs to go especially for a phone being marketed for it's durability.
LG V10

Is the secondary screen actually another screen? What would happen if you put cyanogenmod on it?
+ToofPaste It destroys your neighborhood.
+ToofPaste it is another screen.... independent of the main screen...
it's screen within a screen - SCREENCEPTION
UrvanTech “screenception" YOU WIN LOLOLOL
you would lose a lot if not most of the useful features of the phone.
finally drop test..!please start doing them again..!
@2:11, the flip phone is back. haha
i dropped mine twice and no cracks at all and or nicks in the side, im very impressed with this model
3:05 im a bartender and i can say i could do this drunk mixing phone with a bottle lol
Good lord that thing is impressive.
I've NEVER seen a phone hold out that long before the screen shatters.
Love your scion tc, gold on black is a favorite color scheme of mine, nice clean look. Also thank you for the informative video.
What do you guys do with the phones after all these tests?
+Light Yagami offer it to satan
Good video
hi ur here love ur vids
LG G4's camera and V10's camera the same ?.
+madhu mathew (Ace) Yes, they are except for the front facing dual camera each 5 mega pixels. :)
So the G4 and V10 defeated iphones camera in some conditions :)
madhu mathew Pretty much
Apple iPhone user here until I got the G4. I now want this phone!! Looks bloody good.
Feeling proud to have that tank in my hands now.....the lg v10....in 2018
1:40 this hurts me, doing what he did is what kill my Nexus 5
RIP in peace
You drive a Scion FR-S!?! You just got even more respect from me!
Thank you for the final drop. I also wanted to see its limit just for curiosity's sake
Cell phone battery is very heavy. Cell phone battery cover is basically designed to pop-up in collision because battery detachment during collision reduces the damage to phone. So cover pop-up is very normal phenomenon.
Definitely impressed with the durability I think this is the beginning of others to follow suit
Thanks Lanh, nice video man. keep up the good work
1:33.... The only time my phone hits the ground... Also the only reason I have a case. Note Edge..
1:30 what car is this ?
The case poppin off might transfer some of the energy? Nice phone. No need to throw it up in the air though...scary
But does it run google?
I wish it didn't. Everyone loves blackberry 10!
+ich_kann´s it's a reference to Blackberry's CEO saying the BB Priv "runs on Google" instead of Android
its runs obama's english haircut os
+EdwaᴚĐ Σℓℛῗς HAHAHAHAHAHA
nope, it has BlackBerry OS v1.0
Seeing the spec sheets and this test, this looks like the first flagship I'm actually interested in in a very long time. A bit too big maybe
i dropped it when getting out of the car...i thought i broke my phone but when i looked a it it was thankfully fine but did got a little crack very minor not visible becuz drop was so bad.i would still recommend a back cover to provide extra grip....and to some extent protection. Also equip ur v 10 with a screen protector ..
Hey. If your gf and you have an argument and she happens to have your phone, she'll throw that phone like she's throwing a baseball.
Put it head to head with the galaxy active series. That'll be fun to watch
Need more on lower prices ranges.
The LG V10 is Brute in a suit ! 10/10 will buy.
"out of your lap when getting out of your car"
...every. fucking. time.
As an iPhone user, I am blown away by this phone already. This could make me jump ship if the price is right.
Hey ! which car is that??? awesome! !!
Nice ride Lanh!
This is probably the most durable phone I ever saw
My mom dropped her lg v10 off her bike TWICE and still going strong, no cracked screen just a few Knicks and scratches
This phone actually seems like a dream phone to me except for the weight, but one bad thing doesn't deter me from buying it. I WANT IT.
I grind my teeth everytime it hits the floor and my little hart says "how could you!"
LG Official Frisbee Golf 2016 sponsor confirmed.
Not for the faint hearted (seconds later).... OHHHH THE PAINNNNN!!!!!
Was actually hoping for the LG v10 pass the last drop test.
If a phone falls on its face it has a fair chance of shattering. I don't see that this phone is any different; it got no special face protection, thus it broke in the end. I.e. some type of cover that can take the main force of a fall is definently recommended. I use a TPU case on my Xperia Z3, and due to its front face lip the phone has survived quite a few face plants on hard surfaces.
My mom has the white and gold one, it's great. I have the Edge+, and I'm afraid to even lay mine down on a hard surface.
WOW ! Finally a solid phone !!! Hope the LG G5 will have the same technologie, because it's gorgeous !!
Just got this phone yesterday!
I hope the G5 is like this, but 5.2-5.5" with stereo front-facing speakers.
mine fell once on laminate floor and screen cracked :(
Your v10?
+Anthony Paramo yes
I think LG's are the most underestimated/under rated phones out there.
damn. I was saying ouch the whole time. thank you for testing it. I love my LG g4
Is the back cover a hard plastic or a type a rubbery substance?
Woah, that's really impressive!
@2:10 when you willy nilly throw it xD
Wow, finally Drop Test on Android authority
A very masculine looking phone.
I want that Android Authority tee!
This phone has it all. Please LG, make it available in Europe!!
