Letterpress printing the inside text for the Sacramento History Museum’s 2023 holiday card

- It has become a tradition here at the Sacramento History Museum to send out holiday cards to our donors and supporters of our institution. These 2023 holiday cards (300 this past year) were printed using one of our printing presses we have on display in our print shop exhibit, the 10x15 Chandler & Price Gordon-style jobbing press that was manufactured in Cleveland, Ohio in 1902.
In this video, Howard demonstrates inking the press and operating the press recorded from different camera angles. This video was filmed in segments as Howard printed the inside text of the card in black rubber base ink. The front of the card was printed in a previous press run. The text reads, “From the Board of Directors and Staff of the Sacramento History Museum, we offer our best wishes for a joyous holiday season and a very Happy New Year.” The font is 24 point Bodoni.

Un feliz año nuevo para todos ustedes y muchas gracias por los videos presentados.
Happy new year !!!
How long did it take to do the 300 copies once you started printing them?
(Just the inside text portion.)
We were going slow and had some interruptions that day. I took just over an hour.
Happy New Year to Howard & everyone at the Sacramento History Museum! 🎉🥳🎊
I don't remember if I've asked you this before. 😊Next to the ink plate is there some kind of counter? Something to keep track of the copies that were printed?
That’s a Redington counter! It keeps track of the number of impressions made.
1 billion people worldwide have seen Howard. If he only had a dollar for each one 😂
Satisfying as always! Good to see you in the shop.
Happy New Year Howard 😊😊😊😊😊
Love from India
Happy new year Sir,
Happy New year Howard!
Howard is a pro at this
Happy new year to you too Howard & crew!
Very cool! I learned to setup and run a press like this (electric-powered) in Graphic Arts Shop class in the ‘60s. This brings back some real memories!
I would love to see the process of cleaning the machines after use as well.
There is a video about 4 months ago about cleaning after printing .
Hi! I can’t believe someone with the same name as mine (right down to the second “n” in Zimmermann, has watched this video.
I just love the sound of the rollers on ink ❤️🖤
I wonder where I can get the blueprints of this intriguing machine
We need remix of this machine
Neat!
I continue to be amazed every time I watch one of your videos
Im ashamed to admit i love the long version videos. They help me sleep
