Short of reading the entire manual before doing anything.. it's so maddeningly frustrating to try and figure this out. You gave me some more pieces of the puzzle, thank you.
Thank you so much for this. This made me realise however that Sibelius (Ultimate) is definitely the cinderella of the Avid family. They should really get their finger out for a programme that is more expensive than pro tools.
Great video intro to setting up playback configurations. But the two bugs described are, sadly, only the tip of the iceberg regarding midi playback in Sib. It is incredibly difficult to edit midi cocntinuous data (and the workarounds are just that, not real solutions). I could go on. Sib is a great program and I have no complaints about the quirkiness elsewhere in its tools because I can always work around them. But playback is not part of that greatness. Is it so very difficult to integrate a DAW-based playback interface into Sibelius that would make editing MIDI a straightforward task? Many of us who use Sib every day are very experienced DAW users and for those who aren't, it's not that hard to learn.
Only thing is, you did not cover MIDI CC mapping between instruments loaded in Kontakt and played in Sibelius. The MIDI CC's in an instrument loaded in Kontakt may not be mapped to Sibelius' controllers by default. An CC example would be like CC1 which is usually assigned to the Modulation wheel in most Kontakt instruments to control dynamics. That is not necessarily so in Sibelius though with its dynamic markings (like ppp to fff). So where in Sibelius do you find out what CC controller is using expression dynamic markings?
None of my devices show up - Sine, Opus, Kontakt - not a single instrument. I am not saying they are greyed out - they are not there, just microsoft wavetable synth. Can't find any videos stating how to get Sibelius to find the vsts
If anyone knows a link to a method to fix the problem of "holding notes" in Sibelius (I mean, notes that still sound even when you stop playing), would be nice. Thanks.
What would you suggest using for the Click Track? I now have my channels assigned properly to play via Kontakt however I am clueless how to get the click setup.
I have an issue.... i have both Kontakt 6 and 7 on my computer.. When i try to open Kontakt in Sibelius setup it always reaches kontakt 6. The sounds i want out of 'Swing more won't play with kontakt 6. Do i just delete Kontakt 6 and reinstall 7 ? I placed the .DLL in the vst64 folder in the sibelius file as required. Any ideas ? Thak you
for myself, kontakt 7 didnt work for me since there was no .dll file for 7, but only VST3. The VST3 file for 7 does not work for me on sibelius. Kontakt 6, however, uses .dll and I was able to put the file into sibelius and made it work like how the video shows. Hopes this helps. I'm learning as well.
hi john.for me in active devices not yet any name of kontakt.i have just 2 option.1noteperformer2.general midi.what should i do to connect to kontakt?my sibelius is 7.1.0
Hi John! I am quite new in using vst instruments with Sibelius. I am trying to figure out how to use Kontakt libraries (Orchestral Tools Berlin Series Woodwinds & Brass, also as Some Spitfire libraries). My question is : Do I necessarily need to enter MIDI messages manually in order to Sibelius play back the right dynamics or is there a way that these Kontakt libraries would render the dynamics marked in the score ? Thanks in advance ! :)
This is a much more involved process. I suggest reading chapter 6.19 in the Sibelius users guide. Also check out the Soundset project website. www.soundsetproject.com For me, it's way more work than it's worth. It's much more efficient to export the score as a midi file and do this in Cubase, Logic or your DAW of choice. NotePerformer is the easiest way to get a good playback sound from Sibelius for orchestral scores. www.noteperformer.com
I don’t think Avid can take Sibelius any lower than they have since they acquired the software. Such a pity. What used to be a shining piece of innovative software, has become an outdated, unnecessarily complicated, badly designed program which is also full of bugs! Someone should buy it off Avid before it’s too late - if not too late already. Dorico is a much better option, but for those who have spent their lives learning Sibelius, switching over isn’t a very easy task. Avid, please wake up 😩
On a PC trying to get any of this happening is hopeless. I can just picture the brainiacs at AVID sitting around the boardroom table laughing about how they've managed to drive thousands of users insane with their ridiculously obtuse methods.

Was pulling my HAIR OUT - this was a big help. Thank you!
Excellent video and thanks for sharing!
Great job, john you are the man !
Thanks 👍
Thanks for this. They really need to overhaul this system!
Thanks so much. Muchas gracias por el vídeo, muy práctico.

Will this work for percussion instruments as well?

did you figure it out in the meantime, I have the same issue?

Can you integrate the reverb and chorus functions in Sibelius mixer to work with Kontakt?
how about th click problem? when I press record Botton the click is not available anymore..
How did you add such a large number of available device into the left side?
The available devices are virtual instruments you have in your system. I have a lot of VI's that I've purchased over the years.
@@Hincharts are they automatically added to the left side or do we have to add them manually ?

You can just turn on the Sibelius click.

You need to create a new configuration and then all your VIs should become active.

Yes, I've heard this.
