Probably the best advice for new players to this fantastic game. Have a handful of serve variation ready so that your opponent cannot dial you in. Thanks again squash skills, your advice is top drawer. Best regards from Canada.
Thanks guys really helpful!
I liked the point you made about getting in front when the opponent failed to make a good return. Could you be more specific please about what opportunities this might offer the server for each type of serve.
Came out of a squash session to see how I can improve my serve.
And I guess I never hit the ball like these shots😅
Also never tried a backhand but I will
(just played squash for about 10 times)
Want some more of these!!
Glad you're enjoying them, more to come! Want to work our way through most elements of the game, next one will be the return of serve.
Nice
Very nice video, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it 🙌
Yah nice one

In the example of Ashour serving (2:34) his back toe slides out of the box before he strikes the ball. Is this common? Does the ref let it go if its too fast and close for them to be sure?
A lot of my lob serves go out, ie over the diagonal line. What am I doing wrong?
Too far left and/or too hard. You have to keep practising. From the forehand, target is just to the right of centre, as indicated in the video, below the top line. Key is not to hit too hard - this is not a power shot, but a placement shot.
could I ask a question : when I serve, is it legal when the ball hits first the front wall then the back wall and then the field of my opponent?
same question when the ball hits first the front wall then a side wall then the back wall and then the field...
is it allowed?
thanks
1. Yes, the ball has to hit a front wall at the beginning.
2. Yes, this is allowed too.
Why do you serve backhand on the right side? :)
Nearly all the top 20 right handed players use a backhand serve from the right court to left court now (except Willstrop and a couple of others) vs 20 - 30 yrs ago where it was all forehand serves from everyone. What caused the change?
serves dont matter at all and the backhand serve allows the player to get to the T quicker.
John Ho actually ever since the Egyptian dominance started, the serve has become even more important due to their signature cross court nicks as returns on a weak serve.
The backhand serve allows you to track the ball better and shallow out the trajectory angle, keeping the ball closer to the backhand wall, thus making it a little harder to make clean contact. By serving forehand you create a wider angle which brings the ball in over your opponent's head. Some players find this more difficult to return. Not so much in the pros though. The key to this serve is to follow your racquet to the left, taking you to the T, whilst tracking the ball flight.
@@tonytan5945 thats actually very true, because the forehand serve always comes out off the side wall which is easy for an Egyption pro to slam into the cross court nick
I like to serve backhand from the right so I can see my opponent and what he's doing better
Jethro Tull!
Jethro looks unphased. 🤣
2:12 the lob serve should be from the floor, not the side. I have a lob serve that if done correctly, you 100% have to jump to play, or its game over.
Can't believe i need to explain it
More interested in how to respond to a lob serve ...
Return of serve will be the next video :)
Hilarious example of a serve at 0:10 which is actually a foul if you play it slowly. His right foot is clearly past the line (nevermind on the line) when he strikes the ball.
and at 2:30, just watch in slo-mo!
