@@bryerduncan751 I mentioned the intro because it flows into this song. The album as a whole is one of the most amazing albums ever created, in my humble opinion.
You could try Devonian: Nascent, a very cool track from the same album as The great dying. If I remember correctly this song has vocals from the singer of Katatonia.
They re-recorded this song with the new (he's not that new) singer too if you wanted to check out a version with a little better production quality. The Ocean are incredible and a very very interesting band, they have a brand new song coming out on Wednesday too (hint hint). Another suggestion for them, try "Hadopelagic II: Let Them Believe"
This is by far my favorite The Ocean track. I love to listen to this on my stereo at high volume. Such a thrilling and interesting track! This song has more ideas and creativity in 10 minutes and 56 seconds than some bands have in their entire discography. For another taste of "The Ocean", I'd recommend "Calymmian (Lake Disappointment)" off the same album, "Anthropocentric" from the same-name album, "The Quiet Observer" from a duo EP with MONO.
The main concept of the album is based around the Precambrian, an early period in the formation of Earth. The musical composition is meant to follow the events happening during those times. The first disk(Hadean/Archean) focuses on those eons and is quite heavy representing the violent and chaotic nature of Earth's early formation. The second disk, Proterozoic, has a much more serene feeling with a post-rock or post-metal vibe with interspersed heaviness to align it with the eon of the same name. This is one of my favorite albums to date.
OK, so Precambrian is one of Earth's earlier eras. I thought I had that right but it rolls of the tongue a lot easier than the more well-known eras so I second guessed myself. Thanks for the info about the albums!
this was the album i fell in love with the ocean. they have a song premiere for the upcoming album in 3 days on metal blade records channel for "Jurassic | Cretaceous (feat. Jonas Renkse of Katatonia)" which will be the first song we get to here from Phanerozoic II.
I really enjoyed the entire mood and sound of this song. Really nice Patreon pick, SSM. Bryan, I'm amazed at how you can remember all of the parts of these songs in one listening.
I basically do a clumping technique where I remember how each section makes me feel and then I attribute sounds to the feeling. It's why I very rarely will mention any specific ideas in a riff, instead talking about what the riffs were convering. This method also works better for songs with fewer sections. If you go back and watch the Dream Theater or BtBaM videos you'll see that I fail to talk about several sections -- usually those in the middle of the song. The clumping technique fails because there are too many "clumps" to remember and I end up falling prey to the serial position effect -- the concept that most human's have an easier time remembering the first and last parts of a list than the middle contents.
July 1 The Ocean releases Phanerozoic ll Mesozoic-Cenozoic its the continuation where you previously left of Permian The Great Dying and the band released a statement that Jonas Renske(Katatonia's leadsinger) is gonna ft in the track Jurassic/Cretaceous so we expect a lot from this album and The Ocean in general.
Thank you for doing this one; it is my favorite all time song by The Ocean. I often point this track out to people when talking about how great bands "build" up to a crescendo as I think this is one of the best examples of that kind of songwriting. It's been requested before, but I would love to see you do some Car Bomb. Vague Skies or Gratitude would be great starting points. Secrets Within or Black Blood would be cool as well!
Cambrian is basically the formation of the earth known as 'the Cambrian Explosion', this album kind of personifies that explosion, it's an explosive immense havok (kind of what is displayed on the album art). Next album in the timeline would be Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic, the first track on that album 'the Cambrian explosion' personifies the aftermath of what has happened in the events of Precambrian. Palaeozoic very much is about the very first living things on earth, and most of it consisted of shellfish etc. living in the depths of the ocean. Of course, evolution takes place as well as the tectonic shift of plates in order to form Pangea. Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic is going to tackle the age of the dinosaurs (the album will be released soon, a single is coming next week). The album Pelagial one can only assume it takes place in current time and is not connected with the timeline, although the concept of that album talks about the depths of the ocean, and how dense and heavy it can become as you go deeper into the abyss.
Rishloo - Diamond Eyes! Interesting take on how the vocals are mixed, I think it is just part of the feel here, it kinda makes it more atmosphereyish 🤣🤣 dope song though
Another ocean track! Love it! Yeah this is from their older stuff. The whole album is a masterpiece. You would love stuff off their heliocentric album. They do layering like no other!
Iglooghost - solar blade or bug thief would be cool to see. I'm obsessed, but I can't tell if it's just because I've lost my mind Also, on a very different note, daughters - Satan in the wait is a great exercise in tension
If you want to check other songs from them, even if I higly recommend you to listen to the albums directly, here are what I'd suggest : - The Origin Of Species/God (Heliocentric) - The Greatest Bane (Fluxion Reissue) - Inertia (Aeolian's only memorable song imo) - She Was The Universe (different style, guess it's almost metalcore and less progressive) (Anthropocentric) - Anthropocentric (Anthropocentric) - Ectasian (Precambrian / Proterozoic) - Demersal : Cognitive Dissonance (Pelagial) - Silurian : Age Of Sea Scorpions (Phanerozoic I) - Cambrian II : Eternal Recurrence (Phanerozoic I) - Jurassic | Cretaceous (Phanerozoic II)
Interesting version of this song, I assume the original one. Cause I've been listening to another mix with a bunch of different stylistic ideas. Recommend checking it. On the concepts, they have totally different dilogy about religion and cosmology called Heliocentric and Anthropocentric. The first one is solid gold in terms of storytelling. It's sort of a story of Giordano Bruno who discovered in the medieval ages that the Earth revolves 'round the sun. Sounds simple, but it's about an internal clash of beliefs vs facts. To me, this is the most musical one in terms of orchestral stuff, composition, and overall interconnectedness of the pieces. I know that the channel is not about reacting to albums, but it's highly recommended. For the channel, there is an incredible live video opening the album called Firmament. The second part is more about the nature of man but in a similar sense.
You have to check out Rosetta - Wake/Lift The singer (and I think guitarist?) is a highschool teacher, and that particular album is about humanity's chance's to colonize the stars, to propagate our species before we all die out. It's p good shit, but the 3 part Wake/Lift suite is where it's at. Cheers from Quebec Canada!
Great album. One of my favourite bands. It'd be great if you listen to the Pelagial album. Nice video and analysis, as usual. If you loved the melody in this song, listen to the Heliocentric album. My personal favourite. Cheers.
HOWDY FROM CONNECTICUT..IM A NEW SUB AND I AM IMPRESSED WITH YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF MUSICAL COMPOSITION...I HEAR A LOT OF MUNKY AND HEAD FROM KORN... Year late.. fuck it. Absolutely killer band one of my favorites I can’t even begin to explain how this band makes me feel. That being said my favorite band of all time is Tool to the point where I named my son Maynard 🤗, I’m incredibly infatuated with Tool and this band comes very very close to giving me the same feels. ANYWAY I really would love to see a reaction to The Origin of Species along next to The Origin of God.. they just belong together and to me are seamless in transition, just a great track by The Ocean. Doubt you’ll see this but who cares I’m just feeling this comment LOL
I see all comments! Wait, that comes across as ominous..... Anywho, The Ocean is a band I need to revisit especially since it's been so long since I've had them on the channel.
@@CriticalReactions agreeeed I’m currently bingeing your videos from a year ago, actually all over the place, and I noticed that. But hey, even if you don’t make a video of it at least give their albums a listen. To me there isn’t a bad song in the discography, so many influences, lost in a trance, mind bending, never heard anything like this moments with this band that I recommend it to anyone willing to give them a try. Really an essential band of life in myy humble opinion. 🤟🤟 Stay you, one love brother.
Pelagial is my fav album of all time by them. Front to back concept like their other albums
I realize I'm kind of randomly asking but do anybody know of a good site to stream newly released movies online ?
@Damian Israel I watch on FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Anson Diego Definitely, I have been watching on flixzone for months myself :)
@Anson Diego Thank you, I went there and it seems to work :D Appreciate it!!
@Damian Israel glad I could help :)
I suggest you listen to this album as a whole. From beginning to end... Masterpiece.
Agreed. Precambrian got me into the ocean and it really is a masterpiece.
The intro and this song, it's such a beaut.
But yea, I agree as well. The Ocean are a band that you need to listen to the albums as a whole.
@@kevinfitz1712 I'm not looking at the track listing but even the short intro song leading up to this one is beautiful

great album...I recommend Neurosis and Isis, two essential bands of a similar style
the ocean- quiet observer
also, theres 2 versions of this song, with a remake from 2018 since the band got a different vocalist meanwhile.
Holy shit you are on an absolute roll with some of my favorite bands.
Gotta go with Isis - Carry. Stay on this post-metal train.
Caligula’s Horse - Tempest, Valkyrie or Accent
Just found your channel, but I think you might be my favorite for this format. You certainly seem educated on the subject. Cheers!

@@CriticalReactions Very impressive. Usually, by the end of a first listening, the most I can come away with is an overall level of enjoyment.

This album was also before they had decided on a singular vocalist. Before they were The Ocean Collective and would have many guest members.
