2 Caligula's Horse recommendations: The Tempest is about 5 minutes and has a more standard structure but still pretty proggy and very catchy. Dream the Dead is about 8 minutes and is my personal favourite song. It's pretty similar to Graves in terms of feeling but no saxophone and less variation.
This is already a classic for me. Top notch guitarwork, amazing transitions, epic riff at the end, a middle section to die for... Great, great song. Another personal favourite is The hand are the hardest, fits your 4 minute requirement. For a 8 minute song, absolutely Dream the Dead!
I would like to hard second this: Hands are the Hardest is probably my favorite tune from these guys. It is INSANELY catchy. Every time I listen to that tune it burrows its way so deep it takes me a couple days to get it out.
I can't believe I found this band because of my high school chem teacher 7 years ago at that time they had less than 10k monthly on spotify and dark hair down was there most viewed song at 35k. I've been amazed by the bands growth in that time they are true masters in my opinion.
IVE BEEN WAITING for Graves! This song is my favorite CH song by far, its one of my favorite songs. The structure and the power ebb and flow is divine.
If you ever revisit them, I'd love to see you react to Dark Hair Down or Daughter of the Mountain. Also, if you never checked them out, Rishloo is a fantastic band. I'd recommend Scissor Lips. Any song by I Built The Sky or Karnivool are also top pics. My favorite from Karnivool is Themata, very early song from their first album.
For Caligula's horse I agree with doing Bloom and Marigold back to back. They are the two I kept listening to over and over again when I first heard of CH. As for other bands, check out Anekdoten. I recommend If It All Comes Down To You from their newest album. They are a band that I think will turn off your analytical brain too.
@@maxmaidment96 @@maxmaidment96 another good tech shift transition is from "Inertia and the Weapon of the Wall" going into "The Cannon's Mouth". Also, I love that lyric, "You could be force-fed war and spit peace!". These guys are true artists.
Wow, this band is cool. I can always expect to hear new and interesting music on your channel, which I very much appreciate from the standard reaction channel being full of the most popular metal music. You always have really cool insights too. If you ever check out instrumental again, would love to hear your opinion on Angel Vivaldi - Sea of Heartbreak or An Erisian Autumn if you wanted a more popular starting point
Caligula's Horse is absolutely amazing. This song is one of their best, but not my personal favorite. That would probably go to All's Quite By the Wall, Merigold, or Rust I think. You should also give a listen to the band Arcane, which features the same vocalist but has more of a post-rock, build up to climax kind of style to it, but it's also extremely good. Promise [Part 2], Unturning, Keeping Stone: Sound On Fire, Little Burden, or Nightingale's Weave would all be excellent tracks.
You should check out this singer’s previous band Arcane. Just about any song off the album Known/Learned. Of course I’d recommend the song Learned, but it’s a long one. Maybe instead try Unturning, Selfsame, Little Burden, or Nightingale’s Weave if you are concerned with length.
This band is a great example of modern prog metal and how it doesn't need to be really that fast or really brutal Now go to some of their shorter songs like bloom , tempest , song for no one, dragonfly
I'd also suggest their older tracks: What about 'Rust' or 'Turntail' to be seen parallel to the 'Daughter of the Mountain' suggestions. Even older and STILL worth listening: 'Atlas' from their 2nd album!
I love that song . Dream the dead , dragonfly and daughter of the moon are also songs i like by them. Also am I the only one that the production of the guitar makes me think of Plini a little bit?
Heck yeah! C-Horse is so good, In Contact was a masterpiece and Graves is the epic finale that elevates it even higher. I could jam out for 3 more minutes to that guitar riff with the saxophone that repeats at the end, so I completely disagree with you on that.
F*ck! Yes! I have been wanting a reaction to Caligula's Horse for what feels like ages. I tried thinking of a song, but...well...indecision. Thankfully, it has been decided!

Prop-rockg? :D Super happy you checked them out. Wizardry for sure, their music takes you places, full of emotion. This album is actually a concept album (somewhat...), and this is the last song, so maybe that's why the end is so... on the nose a bit. x) Idk I would listen to the last part even longer, it's just good ol' eargasm. Glad you finally got to this one. Such an awesome song and awesome band. I personally disagree with your feelings on the outro - that groove/riff is just insane especially with that saxophone in it, and I think it servers a great purpose of just kinda relieving some of the tension of the last verse, it almost kind of lets you just sit there and take it all in while the riff plays in the background. I bet it's also a killer section live.
I only recently got into this band, about a month and a half ago or so, but they've rapidly risen to being one of my all time favorites; I'm sitting in a Rise Radiant shirt as I type this haha. My current favorite band. Got to see them live at Progpower in Sept and they put on a great show! This song is definitely a masterpiece and one of my favorites. New album has a ton of great songs. Slow Violence is heavier and more simplistic while Salt and the Ascent are journeys. Definitely fantastic musicians! Cant go wrong with great Prog.
