- So in an effort to show me all the great things that FFXIV has to offer, Galactic has offered to take me to some of the optional dungeons available in post A Realm Reborn. The Dungeons that we visit today all are fun but do not always go as planned.

I would recommend doing Tam Tara Deepcroft Hard before Palace of the Dead.
On a completely unrelated note, do you remember the characters Edda, Liavinne, and Paiyo Reiyo?
I love that the term MSQurater has escaped Grinding Gear and is moving among new FF14 streamers
Yeah some of the viewers of my streams have started calling Galactic that and it's stuck!
Palace of the Dead is great for learning how to play new jobs that start at higher levels...... looking at you RDM.
Definitely gonna use it for VPR & PIC
The first dragon isn't how a dragon normally looks. All the stakes in its flesh are there to imply that it's survived many battles, specifically against the Ishgardians.
If you get 50 moogle tomes during this limited event, you can unlock the Ufiti Horn, and you too can have a Giant Gorilla carry you gently around as a mount.
I really like Hullbreaker Isle for the lore stuff with Mistbeard. I also like how after you beat it you can play your WoL as the most dense dumbass ever and have them not put the pieces together that Merlwyb's second in command *is* Mistbeard, which gets a funny reaction out of another NPC when he realizes how dumb you are
11:47 if it makes you feel better about it, a lot of the sprout experience in the harder side content is the sprout essentially being carried. Someday when you loose your sprout icon you'll be able to do the same for someone else who is new :D
Also you say you came across me in your ff14 journey but you never came across me as I was there from the beginning
Details are hazy, got possessed by lahabread
Hell yeah, keep trolling the sprout! 🫡
@@gateauxq4604 I said this because I'm the one who got him to play ff14 in the first place
For vigil hard, the adds will often swarm the players, forcing them to either step away form the canons to deal with that, or rely on the other players to use their canons to keep them off.
You either got very lucky, or, more likely, the other players just knew this fight really well and were killing the ads before they could bother anyone.
My first experience with this fight went like this, but I've sense done with with 3 newbies a couple of times, and we always wipe a few times until I can teach them what to do.
A newbie with 3 vets on the other hand, it's going to be so easy, you get the wrong idea about how easy the fight actually is.
Yep, the vets took care of the adds, which is the bulk of the challenge. If you can keep them from swarming a player or NPC and not eat too much reflected damage, the fight is easy (if tedious).
Or, you can bring a BLU and kill it in seconds. XD
@@forcesinbalance5685 There was also a vet healer in the party who may have been taking care of any reflected damage Caffeinated was doing to himself. Pretty easy for a healer to drop out, toss a healer, and get right back on the canons again without being noticed.
The Gorilla mount is actually in the current selection for the moogle treasure trove (Ufiti)
With the Roulette system, for dungeons, it's divided into Main Scenario Dugeons (Praetorium/Castrum/Porta (Ultima Weapon)), Leveling (all dungeons not at an expansion's max level) and Level 50/60/etc. dungeons. You get Tomestones from these, which you can trade for the current best or second best level of gear, and can do one Roulette/Day for the most tomestones. You can also get Poetic Tomestones, which you use for any gear that's not max-level gear, from the roulettes. Most of these hard-mode dungeons are optional and fall into the 50/60/etc. category along with the patch dungeons for each expansion.
Actually, the hard monikers for duties get dropped later on. And it's best to call them duties, considering that the term dungeon becomes nebulous once you advance even further through the story.
Ahhh ok, I was a bit curious of what the major difference was really
Palace of the Dead isn’t about playing perfect. It’s also about being lucky for a 200 gauntlet of a randomly generated dungeon. Every 10 floors is a checkpoint and it’s quite the journey. I recommend bringing a static party with you first and doing the 200 floors with them before doing it solo. Get a feel for it before throwing yourself at the lions den. Also PotD isn’t the only dungeon like this. There is Heaven on High and Eureka Orthos. They too have solo only achievements and titles but these are 100 floors instead.
Yeah, while preparing for a necro run is very important, if rng says mimic monster house with gloom and locked items and your fresh outta purity poms, welp.
Those optional dungeons are great! And some of them have great stories too
I do need to pay attention to the lore of them a little bit more to be honest, I've heard good things!
Palace of the Dead is one of few "deep dungeons". They have roguelite elements. Solo it or up to 4 players go through many floors. Every 10th floor is a boss and after defeating it you "save" your progress if you die to load a save file and redo the last 10 floors prior. But not all deep dungeons are is so lenient. Eukera Othros deep dungeon, if you wipe, you'll have to do whole thing over again and it's 100 floors total.
(Othros is Endwalker expansion deep dungeon)
Deep dungeons explore samey looking decor of randomized layouts. Battle mobs of enemies, watch out for hidden floor traps and find treasure chests that give party shared items of a limited amount that will give party buffs or debuffs to enemies. You can also get a unique weapon out of it, as you have your own stats in deep dungeons, regular gear doesn't matter. You can so whole thing with only dps and no tanks or healers. Can increase unique deep dungeon stats from chests randomly, once high enough, turn in those stats for a useable weapon but lower's your stats for that deep dungeon tho. Need to farm stats increases again.
That's cool that they continued this on for the whole while of the expansions. I like the idea of strong Solo possible content!
The enrage timer for Amdapor Keep (Hard) is the four wall monsters slowly approaching the center stage. If they reach you, game over.
3:17 I remember one time when that double dragon thing wiped the rest of the group, and Red Bat ended up soloing it while we watched and cheered.
Miracles do happen Shion!
Heh love the shout out to CiderSpider, his content is so great. I love how they do dungeons in FFXIV, yes they can get repetitive, but it's really a anything goes in roulettes since every dungeon is still relevant! (sometimes the scale downs hurt though lol)
Idk I found it enjoyable just chatting with some people and playing the instance ya know?
@@CaffeinatedDad yeah, when you get with a chatty/fun group, they're really fun! Or with friends!
xpp M Lord xeem is making appearance in this video NOCRINGE
I've been trying to do Palace of the Dead solo for AGES. I think the farthest I've gotten is in the 80's so far. I just got to floor 62 before getting killed by a trapped chest and had to restart.
And I just did a bunch of runs of Stone Vigil (hard) just to get that shield the second boss uses as a Blue Mage spell.
I love that you watch and enjoy Cider Spider's content! He's an amazing creator
I need a suit and tie....

I didn't blame the dragoon
I KNEW WHAT YOU WERE THINKING!
@@CaffeinatedDad no I was messed up mitigation times and pressed LD half a second late
Palace of the dead solo is something I want to grind and learn some day. I like the palace of the dead and getting that one success would be cool
I love the idea of roguelites!
ff14 dragons are interesting that their evolution branches and appears to change based on what the dragon is required or has been doing. So for example that massive dragon that assaults Ishgard near the end of ARR is like that presumably because it evolved in such a way to become a massive seigebreaker, it's even bigger than it's own father. You will see this evolution happen in a side quest later. So if you see a weird looking dragon, wonder What role it would have to require it to take that form. The default form evolved appears to be the 4 legged 2 winged variant due to the abundance of them.
For another example the 2nd boss in Hard Stone Vigil has evolved to have So much defensive capabilities that it can't be harmed by standard attacks hence the use of the cannons.
The second boss of Stone Vigil Hard is like a more involved version of the GW2 Zhaitan fight in the core game.
Lots of these dungeons exist because of the relic weapons so if you were interested in getting them you would have been sent down this path anyway but it's always good to increase your options for roulette :D
Looking forward for you to get forced into the raids. The Omega series is a trip.
I love the idea of forced optional content! Lol
@@CaffeinatedDad That's the spirit! I avoided raids for quite a while because I'm less experienced with that type of content, but after going through them and knowing you enjoyed the crystal tower, I can't wait to see you go through them, so I hope you're in for the long haul with this game!
If you like a challenging solo experience, definitely try Blue Mage. It can solo most dungeons synched while collecting spells on the way.
Given that Galactic has been dragging you around, did he by any chance manage to explain how the Glamour Dresser works?
It may be worth asking him, given how it can help you save outfits you like while opening up more inventory/armory slots.
Yes! A few other people have mentioned this as well. My big thing was having the glamor prisms to make it work!
@@CaffeinatedDad there’s a way to catch two Chocobos with one snare on this:
If you recall your hunt log, there’s one for your Grand Company that rewards Company Seals. You can use those seals to upgrade your GC rank. Once you get to Sergeant Second Class, you get the ability to turn in rare (green) or legendary (blue) gear for more seals.
In this way, you not only clear out dungeon gear you no longer need, but you can also use the earned seals to buy Glamour Prisms.
I’m loving your content!!
Hey I am glad! I've had quite a bit of fun making it!
ARR had some cool dungeons.
I get what Galactic is saying here, 5:56 but I think if you want to play through the whole game in tin can armor, that's cool. It's YOUR experience.
This is something I say to all sprouts, and even many older players: Do your blue quests! You see blue quest icon, you stop what you're doing, and at least pick it up.
Gotta say, i miss em so much, it was way more fun having some random nonsense dungeons. Having a place where new stuff can be testet. Im sad ive missed ARR and only started during early HW and "only" got 2 dungeons per Patch. IMO taking this from us was a mistake...
I love dungeons! I like that they can be a bit challenging and the content isn't all copy paste. This is in my limited exp though
@@CaffeinatedDad Enjoy em as long as you can, as by Endwalker we only got that one MSQ dungeon per patch.... Dont get me wrong we got some REALLY neat ones, but stilll, i miss those funny side stories, the Origin of Ixal, Mistbeard, or others...
Duty Roulette! Is the thing youre referring to for the people running old content
good boy Galactic, dont let him skip "optional" content.... its not optional , do it.... do ...iiittttt!..
I miss older dungeons when the boss had some other mechanics. The Dungeons becomes too easy unless you play them synced. I wish they have an option to queue synced (not on pre formed party)
ahh thats interesting, I didn't know that was even an option!
I'm a little confused by this comment, granted that I haven't played in about six months, but last time I played all duty ques were synced by default, I would have to manually turn on the unsynced party feature in the duty finder options menu in order to be able to get in unsynced. Did that get changed? or am I missing something?
love this XD
grate jokes grate edeting, wwell done
Loved the video, but may I just say 10/10 for Dart from legend of Dragoon floor divers meme inclusion.
Every expanaion has some optional dungeons, alas the further you go thr fewer there are. Enjoy your buffet now and have fun with the odd mechanics theyre not going to smooth out of msq duties
3:26 your tank didn't have Tank stance on lol
yeah i turned it off there because they don't follow aggro, if you don't believe me go do it as a tank and they will not listen to you
That particular boss(s) attacks people randomly. It doesn’t matter if the tank have their stance on or not
Cyber spider ?
hehe, already joining the cult of the Bald man
Floor Divers? Sir. I will not let you slander the good name of Dragoons like that.
We are Floor _Tanks_ . :P
Ha! I'm still playing as a dragoon for HW after my week siesta as a drk!
This channel really is just becoming solo Grinding Gear huh? :O
Excellent.
Most content is really amazing in ffxiv...until you've done it 100-200+ times but I feel like any content in any game gets a little old after that many iterations unless you're doing challenge runs or speedrunning etc
friends don't let friends unlock hardmode dungeons... they're awful with pubbies and now permanently in your duty roulettes
You remind me of my older brother: he has a really good ear for music and our parents encouraged him to play the violin, he was quite talented. But like you, as soon as anyone would nudge him into any direction, he would grow cold and stiff and wouldnt budge. Needless to say, he didnt continue anything music-related, despite the fact his girl friend is a musician.
Maybe do something you really want to do, for your own sake and not to spite others.
All of the optional dungeons unrelated to story in ARR could disappear and the game would probably be better off. But welcome to how all the dungeons in ARR were before all the MSQ ones were reworked for NPCs.
