Just for the record, in real cdl training, using the parking break is recommended if you have any doubt about you or your trucks ability to take off up hill, since it could actually result in killing someone if you do.
It's from a different bloody country. No one is questioning the status of your three saints. Now kindly go back to reading the daily mail and whining about immigrants.
This is a no-brainer. I started driving trucks in 2000. Even then, there was a built in delay on the brakes being released after you took your foot off the pedal, combined with an automatic throttle up when a load was detected on the transmission so that you wouldn't roll back on a hill start. The only time you rolled back was if you took your foot off the brake but didn't let the clutch out. Also, for those of you who have never driven one of these vehicles, when you are stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, you're only pushing the clutch in about 1/2 inch.
When I was learning to drive a semi, we had to start off with a trailer with 37,000 pounds of scrap paper on pallets in it and on a hill with a 4% grade. And it was done on the third day of our training. If you rolled backwards it wasn't good, because you were on a city street.
@@Senkino5o On a regular car, this sort of hopping occurs when there's not enough throttle and the clutch is released too fast, but how does itwork on trucks?
Why is that using parking brake during hill start counts as cheating? Coz in HK when we take our driving test we are required to use the parking brake.
+T Hud It's wayyy safer to use the handbrake, (Parking brake) during hill starts - not always necessary but useful on most occasions. And does 'we' mean Americans?
It probably is for someone who’s not used to driving large trucks. That’s like saying flying an airplane isn’t hard if it’s your job. Most people wouldn’t know how to do it unless it is their job.
1 you don't use the trolley bar for anything other than to tug test your trailer, 2 i feel sorry for the Peterblit 3 i could have done that so much better 4 if you push the clutch all the way down theres this thing called a clutch brake that stops it from spinning so you wont grind the gears
You probably would notice that the UK did this challenge years ago, but this is still pretty good, that's why the like/dislike ratio is not that horrible.
Hold the air brakes and slowly release the clutch, then when the torque starts to pull the rig slowly release the air brakes and put on the throttle. Easy.
***** the reason it is compared so much is because they didnt bother to change ANYTHING at all on the chalenges series.its just like watching a bad version of the british one.
Jeremy, James, and Hammond did do it. They all failed. Miserably. Except Jeremy. It turned out the same way as this. Except more expensive stuff. Like a Grand Piano, Drum set, and a Car.
Unpopular opinion but I actually liked this version of Top Gear. I do love Top Gear UK and while I can see why most people don’t like this version but I love both USA Top Gear and UK Top Gear equally.
they're still relatively new. Give them a few more seasons and hopefully they'll break into TV better and get more comfortable. No doubt Jezza, Hamster, and May have amazing chemistry, but Top Gear US isn't that bad.

something tells me that Rutledge's truck had Volvo's Hill Start Assist option.
+digitalrailroader yes but if the truck have hill start assist why not us it
Seriously? There's such a thing as 'hill start assist' i can't believe it.
@@MrHarleyoldfart It's actually in most passenger cars, at least here in Europe. It effectively holds the brakes for you until you let out the clutch

at least this is better than the new top gear

You have a very low bar set for humor.

I genuinely like these episodes of TG USA. I agree initially it wasn't very good but I think they're getting better.
I miss top gear usa with tanner, Rut and adam. It was pretty good after season 2
so painfully obviously scripted.
+AsTheSeasonsGray But on the upside, that NASTY old Pete gives me tinglies in my wedding vegetables.

They just don't have the chemistry that the UK trio have

As a truck driver I'm embarrassed for them. What they were doing is not in the least bit hard.
I am too, and the entire episode I was waiting for when they had to back the trailers in somewhere. Never happened. :(
I've been in commercial truck driving school for 1 week and I can do this without rolling backwards.
Let em try it with 40 ton load weight
