I have the sports illustrated with Uwe Von Schamann on the cover with the winning field goal. This is awesome; I would have loved to have seen when Uwe was orchestrating to the crowd when they were yelling block that kick. An all time great game!
No One called them like Keith Jackson...the best in the business..and yep....OSU plays OU this weekend..and as KJ would say: "Gonna be a barn burner folx!"......I miss that guy....wish he was still behind the mic...
I was at this game. It was less than a month prior to my 17th birthday. 20+ mile an hour wind coming from the open end of the stadium. Sloppy game by both teams but still a great game. One of the biggest heartbreaks of my young life to that point. Belated congrats to Switzer & the Sooners for the opportunitistic victory.
I was in the stadium on that day in 1977 & it was the most excitimg sporting event I had ever seen! I still have the ticket stub for that game. Fantastic!
Really, wow both great fight songs ; ❤️ Oklahoma & Billy Sim & wishbone offense; ❤️ woody Hayes & Barry Switzer & Billy sim& wishbone offense ; ❤️ 1970s college football
thank you for posting this whoever you are, I was born on this day...my dad made my mom wait till the game was over to go to the hospitol- I was born at 8:52pm ~ technology is amazing
We got ahead 20-0 in no time, so me and my friends went outside to have a snowball fight and when we came back in it was early 3rd quarter and Ohio State was ahead 21-20. Then the miraculous kick by von Schamman. Great times.
Switzer's record was undefeated against legendary coaches (4-0), Woody Hayes, Joe Paterno, and Bo Schembechler. 3 of those wins claimed National Titles. Switzer also dominated, and eventually retired Darrel Royal, and absolutely routed Tom Osborne. Literally, almost sent Osborne on his way to Colorado in 1978 (if i recall the date right) as Osborne could barely take the heat of NU not beating OU (Switzer won, like 12 outa 16 vs NU/Osborne). Incredible! Ahhh, The King.
Sooner magic is a wonderful and powerful thing. I don't think we'll ever see a kicker taunt a crowd like that again in a pressure situation. How good was Uwe? Mr. Automatic. Literally good enough to be able to taunt an opposing crowd in a clutch situation. Great Pro kicker as well.
This game brings up memories and goosebumps. I almost get tears of joy watching Sooner Magic in full force. Despite previous moronic posts, as an OU fan, this game sets up like some sort of movie/work of football art. "A great lead, two lost key all america starters in the game while leading cause key turnovers creating a deficit, instead of an easy win. With backups at key positions, A failed two pointer creates the perfect onside kick, followed by -the kick-" Historical win. Boomer Sooner!!
Thanks for posting. Buckeye fan here. Can't wait for the big game this fall. Both teams in this video were very good. I don't expect anything else this fall.
I remember that OSU seemed to lose their intensity in the second half of this game. I remember OSU played Oklahoma in Norman around the 1982-83 years, can’t remember the exact year, but OSU won and Oklahoma had this great running back that later left the Oklahoma team, but I can’t remember his name either.
Certain games are classics, when both teams meet, and have national title type talent. The game lives up to the billing. This game was one of them. Primarily on OU's side, as they dominated the 1970s. Even moreso then the 1980s. Only the 1950s were more dominant for OU. Like a 47 game winning streak, a record yet to be broken. Granted the players were different, but imagine going to school for four years and NEVER losing. Amazing. OU football is a Superpower.
I remember Uve von Schamann leading the Buckeyes in cheering "BLOCK THAT KICK" .. haha.. then winning the game. The Buckeyes even put him on ice a couple of times if I remember correctly. I had just moved to Columbus that year from Oklahoma and I was the only OU fan in a room full of Buckeye fans. OU plays them again in 2010 I believe.
That OU wishbone was freaking incredible! You could watch a play, it looked like there was no gain, then the dust would clear & they had gained five yards! And in the rare times they failed, they had von Schaumann to bail them out. Flippin' awesome. J.C. WATTS FOR PRESIDENT!!
one of the most exciting games I have ever seen. wish more teams would run a wishbone or the option play, Very exiting and would throw the defense off guard, wish whole game had Benn downloaded!
This game is a thing of beauty. Relegated to a 3rd string QB, 5 turnovers, (virtually all caused by the backups, freshman Jimmerson and Blevins),and losing 2 awesome RBs all in the late first quarter to early 2nd quarter and OU still wins!!! With the starters in, and a 20-0 lead, Friggin ABC cut out of the game and went to Regional coverage. Buckeyes can thank their lucky stars they played a "patchwork" OU offense, or this game was on route to being 50-0 by halftime. Boomer!!!!
Another tidbit from this game. OU was leading 20-0 with it's starters and blowing the game wide open, when OU lost it's starting QB and starting Heisman RB (Simms). Everything went downhill until the end. OU's backup QB, Bleavins was awful until the final pass of the game. Under his lead, OU had something like 5 turnovers, combined with losing their starting QB and RB, on the road in a hostile environment. And OU STILL WON!! With their starters, score likely 55-14.
It doesn't bother me or probably any other Sooner fan that we have a lot of Texans on the team. That just proves that many of Texas best athletes are smart enough and honored enough to play for the Mighty Sooners. It made Mac Brown sick when he lost Adrian to OU.
I miss 1970's era football. GREAT era in college football. OU ran that wishbone better than Bama. I have to say that begrudgingly. But I admit OU looked sleek and fast.
I had just moved to Norman when I was 8 years old. Wasn't really a football fan and had no idea what madness OU football was. This was the first college football game I ever watched. I got to see Sooner Magic and I was hooked.
Notice that neither team had an effective passing game. One of the big differences from the current era. Lott must have been injured in the second quarter. Gerald was moved to flanker to make way for Art Scheichter the next season.
To correct the earlier dates posted regarding the renewal of this series. Everyone was wrong. The actual dates the series resumes (as of today) will be 09/17/2016 in Norman, Oklahoma, and 09/16/2017 in Columbus, Ohio.
Great game, remember watching this as a high schooler. Man, that Sooner wishbone was something to behold.Thomas Lott, Billy Sims......so much fun to watch. Sooners stole one that day though.
You always had to admire the Big 8 for going on a home and home series with the big names of college football. Florida State did the same thing with Bobby Bowden. Oklahoma and Florida State never played cupcake football teams to ascend to the college football throne.
@@Nastyfinger1444 .....That's not what I said. You're putting words on my keyboard. And I'd rather play Clemson every year than Alabama, LSU, and Florida every year.
I'm definitely going to bring up OU/Texas. Pure blood. Half/Half slit. Awesome and unique. Best rivalry in college football. OU football tradition, 2nd to none. Uwe, best OU kicker ever (tee or not). Literally mocked the Buckeye crowd before sealing they're fate.
2 things a lot of people forget about this game. One is that Thomas Lott got hurt in the first half. Neither Dean Blevins nor Jay Jimerson really covered themselves with glory replacing him. The other is that the wind was blowing about 35mph out of the south (from right to left in this video). That (plus all the turnovers) is why almost all the action was at the north end of the field.
Ya, this game will always stand out. Movies couldn't come up with better/wilder plots then what occurred in this football game. It creates nightmares for the losers, and unabashed bliss for the victors.
It doesn't get any bigger than OU/Texas. They're usually playing for the Big 12 South and all the goals you mentioned. The Big 12 & SEC are the only conferences that have to play the extra championship game. The OU/Nebraska rivarly isn't what it was during the Big 8. It's not an annual game any more.
LET me list some more Buckeyes of recent years who are good NFL players-Mike Doss, Dan Wilkinson, Shawn Springs, Nick Mangold, Mike Nugent, Chris Gamble, deceased lineman for Vikings Lecharles Bentley, etc. Also great Buckeyes of past I haven't mentioned are Chris Spielman-the 1st high school athlete on Wheaties box who played HS ball at Ohio power Massillon in early 80's, Tom Cousineau, Keith Byars, Chris Carter, Ron Springs, Doug Donnely. There are just so many of them to remember.
And Steeler's Super Bowl winning QB Ben Roethlisberger is from Findlay, Ohio-close to my hometown. He didn't play QB in high school until his senior year then played college ball at Miami, Ohio. Won Super Bowl, something Vince Young hasn't done and might never even play in a Super Bowl.
Keep in mind, if you don't want to include PSU (which we're always a big 10 type team anyway) OU would still be 9-3 vs that crap conference. One loss to NW (which I can still remember) was in the 1990s under the John Blake tenure (OU was lucky to beat Tulsa during that timeframe). What's more amazing In OU's success vs the Big 10: 3 of they're wins vs Big 10 were for National Titles. This posted video 1977 classic was another great one. With backups to boot. BOOMER FRIGGIN SOONER!!!!
I do think OU has hard time in cold weather. But OU is a traditional running superpower. Maybe the best producers of college RBs historically, certainly arguably. Running works in the cold. And OU's defenses have always been stellar (minus the mid to late 1990s). OU historically did great in Nebraska, where most team's don't. I'm not sure, but what I do know is OU will kick the Longhorns around again. That's always a certainty. BCS games in present day under Stoops, I'll keep my eyes closed.
It was Texas' 25-22 win over Ohio St. in 05 that leaves many who doubt who was better team that year. Remember Ohio State's starting QB was playing his 1st game since November of the previous year- a 10 month layoff. Ohio St. coaches switched QB's and wouldn't turn him loose, weren't sure what they had. Buckeye offense struggled few weeks later in 17-10 loss at Penn St. then their offense clicked rest of season after that. Beat ND, who really beat USC if refs call deserved penalty on late USC TD
Discussing this 1977 classic. How awesome was it to watch the Wishbone. Like football poetry in motion. If not for Miami of the mid to late 1980s, OU may still be running it. One thing about the Wishbone, it finished off lesser opponents quickly. No "upsets" usually occcured, unless they played an incredibly talented team, or faced a superstar Qb at the wrong time (aka, john elway). Nebraska dominated the 1990s with the Option. I'm still not sure it wouldn't win. Just isnt the "vogue" Off.
OU has beat a Big 10 team early in the season in years when OU won a National Championship but never beat them in last game where both teams were playing for a championship, there's a difference. And Ohio St. is the team that scheduled games against other teams from power conferences. It was well documented in Dallas that it was Buckeyes called Texas in late 90's to play in 05-06 because Buckeyes were having hard time getting people to play them, Mack Brown was trying to get out of playing Ohio
To further any discussion vs.OU's domination of college football historically.OU has a winning record vs ALL major conferences. And we're not talking about beating only the duds of every conference. It's a mix of teams from the conferences, usually mid to high end winning teams. TRANSLATED: Historically, OU takes on all comers, and usually beats them. And of course OU vs NU decided more title game shots. DUH? If the game were mid-season, like OU/TX, one team would be almost "eliminated" by Nov.
And for the size of the state's, with all the people leaving Ohio in last 20-25 years, Ohio still turns out a lot of top high school talent, many that play for other teams. Lots of Michigan's top players came from Ohio-Manningham, Desmond Howard, QB Elvis Grabac, too many to list. Also running back for Florida last 2 years from Ohio. And USC's All-America TE from Toledo. S. Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn St., Illinois, etc. all have taken top 50 players out of Ohio recently and Bucks still thrive.
True. That's one reason fans don't think highly of Ohio St. They see Ohio St. won only31-10 or 28-13 but don't take into account Tressell plays very conservative after getting lead while Stoops, Mack Brown Urban Meyer and others keep starters in longer and run up score against inferior competition. Notice in coaches poll Ohio St. does better, other coaches respect Tressell even though I and other Buckeye fans wish he would pour it on more. This is 3rd straight year both BCS coaches from Ohio.
Great post soonerscott. I know it's not always relevant to do the "we beat the team that beat you, so we're better" logic. But the Buckeyes were a disgrace this past yr. College football had no great teams. Everyone knew, that even a two loss LSU team would thump them.
Another fun fact: OU's all time record vs. the Big 10. Yet to confirm, but it's something like 16-2. Split w/Ohio State, Undefeated vs. Michigan, undefeated vs. PSU, undefeated vs Minnesota, etc. etc.. Oklahoma Football is bigger then any one conference. They should be an entity unto themselves. The amount of money OU keeps generating for the Big 12 is unreal and unmatched. This 1977 game was a classic. "Oklahoma Football". Boomer
OU's RB's for the game: Kenny King, Billy Sims, David Overstreet... Not too mention, Thomas Lott. How friggin good was that backfield? These guys followed Greg Pruitt and Joe Washington. The Wishbone, man. For all it's knocks, it was a terror to stop, and with RBs like that, almost impossible. There's almost no excuses to not complete every pass attempted (like 3-5 atempts per game), as WR's should be wide open with RB stables like that. Unreal.
Again Ohio St. does good against SEC, southern and western teams in regular season games in those locations because they worked out in summer heat and are in game shape when they played them. It's the long layoff between last game and bowls where I believe the southern teams and USC enjoy advantage playing at home or in conditions they're more accustomed to. Big 10, some Big 12 north and Big East schools practice in cold or are not used to heat like they are early in season, really might matter.
It took a coach born and raised in Ohio to bring OU back to national prominence-Stoops. Anyone notice four of the coaches who won BCS champioships this decade were born and raised in Ohio? LSU's Les Miles, Florida's Urban Meyer, Ohio State's Jim Tressel and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops all great coaches from Ohio. And Nebraska,s new coach, LSU's defensive coordinator last year Pellini also from Ohio. Reminds me of 60,s and 70,s-Shula Hayes, Paul Brown, Lou Holtz etc. all Ohio natives. Hire a Buck 2 win
Yeah I'm in Dallas, as are thousands of other native Buckeyes. Buckeyes had over 30,000 at a pep rally in Austin before the Ohio St.-Texas game in 06. When I stopped at gas station by my place before going to my sister's to watch Texas-Ohio St. both years there were 4 or 5 guys with Ohio St. shirts there. Texas fan said, "Am I in Texas or Ohio?" Huge Buckeye and other Big10 teams fan base in Texas. Hardly any Texas or Big 12 fans in Ohio, Michigan. Texas-USC good close game but bad defenses.
Also, Bob Stoops is anything but a Buckeye. He grew up (ironically) a Sooners fan. This according to Mike Stoops. Bob Stoops went as far to paint his shoes silver, in honor of his favorite player, Joe Washington. Stoops is an Iowa Product, Hawkeye player/coach, KSU Coach, Florida Coach. There's nothing remotely about him affiliated with the the buckeyes. Hir early to HS life was at cardinal mooney HS in ohio. Thats it. He left, and never returned. Welcome home to the Southern Plains.
Ok I was wrong about USC game. Not having wells affects not only offense but how defense played the game also. Defense didn't take as many chances as they would have. Loss only helped accelerate the Pryor experience and will make him better next year. And if you look at the last 3 years even with the 3 bad losses to USC, LSU, and Florida, Ohio St. is only team in nation who can say they only lost to teams that played in BCS bowls. Actually they can say that last 4 yrs-lost to UT and Penn St in05
I don't think that OU has played Iowa since the late 70's. I could be wrong but I know it's been a lot longer than 4 years ago. I don't recall them ever playing Wisconsin. If so many many years ago.
Been to HS football in Dallas and big time suburb programs of Plano and Southlake Carroll, atmosphere no different than at smaller town football games in Ohio. In fact some of the smaller division northwest Ohio schools have more size and just as good as what I witnessed at Southlake Carroll, supposedly 1 of top HS teams in country. They finally played an out of state team this yr. and lost at home. When Cincinnati Moeller was top HS team in USA they beat top teams in Texas, CA. and NY.
School I went to now also football power. Holds record for longest football winning streak in Ohio history-57 games from 1997-2000. Team they lost to at state by 4 in 2000 was team from their own league who also has won 4 state titles in football in last 8 yrs. That league considered top small school league in US by many. Has 4 teams that have won multiple titles in football, and girls and boys basketball in last 10yrs. 7 of the 10 teams won at least 1 state title in big 3 sport in last 5 yrs.
Soonerscott, I agree somewhat. I think the SEC and Big 12 are usually the two best. From the formation of the Big 12 (1996) on, the Big 12 has won 3 National Titles, SEC 5 national titles, Big 10 has 2. The Big 12 South in particular can get brutal, other then Baylor. Pac 10 specifically relies on USC. Another "entity unto itself" school. Too big for a conference. OU should go independent, USC should go independent and join ND. I hate conference comparison jargon.
I go home to Ohio and the kids in my small town and surrounding towns look huge compared to what I see in Dallas and north Texas. Seen some big kids in Texas but not overall team size of even smallest division teams in Ohio. And both about same in speed at skill positions. texas probably has more college level QB prospects because of weather, they can run those offenses where you throw 40+ times. Those offenses usually don't work in cold, rainy or snowy late November playoff games in north.
Ohio St. has 5 National Championships and 7 Heisman Trophies. Reason I brought up if Wisconsin and Iowa were in old SWC was that Texas and Arkansas benifitted from being 2 large state schools playing with a bunch of small schools. If Texas and Arkansas were in Big 10 back then they wouldn't have won so much. Wisconsin, Purdue, Iowa and Michigan St. had some talented teams that would have won also if playing Rice, Baylor, TCU, SMU, Houston. Instead they played little guys to Ohio St. and Michign
I think most would agree, the Oklahoma's, Ohio State's, Notre Dame's, Alabama's, and USC's of the world don't have to worry about history or "who has more tradition" battles. I will concur, i've heard nothing but great things regarding Ohio State's band. I heard the only one close was Texas A&M's (military oriented), which i've seen countless times and is impressive. As for mascots, can't even say I know where to begin. I'll concede to Brutus, now that Boomer and Sooner are retired.
Just learned a top HS offensive lineman Michigan stole from Ohio has transferred to Ohio St. Will be eligible in 2009 to join the 3 top 10 HS offensive lineman Buckeyes will have as freshmen backups this year. also have top 50 recruits at TE, WR, and defensive line coming in this year. and don't forget Buckeyes also signed the top rated HS QB in the nation this year. So look for 10+ win seasons next 4-5 yrs. Mack Brown would really try to avoid playing Buckeyes in next 5 years.
Ugh, how could I forget Greg Pruitt, another very good NFL player and Joe Washington, solid N FL player. OU was loaded with RB's. Biggest dissapointment was probably the highest recruited Player in the history of HS football. Marcus Dupree. A book written about his recruitment. A quack mentally. I'll still take all these superstar recruits OU keeps loading up on, but something needs to be done about defections, before college football turns into college hoops.
We can debate who is the better program. We can debate who was the better team a certain year. We can debate the best conference. We can debate the best rivalry. But you can not debate that Ohio St. has "The best damn band" and the best and most fearsome and handsome mascot in the land, Brutus the Buckeye.
Ohio St. has turned out a few good running backs too. Eddie George, Robert Smith-who also left Buckeyes early for pros and had over 10,000 yard for Vikings in late 90's-2005, Keith Byars, of course Archie Griffin. Lately though Buckeyes churning out a lot of NFL caliber receivers and linebackers more than RB's-Although Beanie Wells will leave early after this season and be a top 10 pick at RB. But key word you used was college. I think Buckeyes recruit too many NFL ready players.
Here is Ohio State's all-time records against teams that make up the Big 12-28 wins and 4 losses. 2 of the losses OU's lucky last second win in 77 and Texas lucky 3 point win in 2005. Buckeyes record vs big 12 teams:Baylor-2-0, Colorado-3-1, Kansas St.-1-0,Missouri-10-1, Nebraska-2-0, OU-1-1, Oklahoma St.-2-0, Texas-1-1, Texas A&M-4-0, Texas Tech-2-0. Buckeyes also 7-1 vs SMU and undefeated against other former SWC members Rice and Houston.
And to re-iterate this game's beauty: OU destroying Ohio State 20-0 until OU loses it's starting QB and RB (both all conference and all americans). OU subsequently turns the ball over 5 times or more? AND STILL WINS!!! Switzer bent Hayes over like a dog, with backups at key positions, and a great finish. Who knew Uwe would be OU's greatest kicker ever?
Even with Ohio St. having only 3 players drafted this yr.-I said 2 before, it was actually 3, Buckeyes have had 70 players drafted in last 10 years. Longhorns have had less than 40 players drafted in last 10 yrs. And like I said the total of players who played HS or college ball in TX. that were drafted this yr. was almost equal to #of players drafted that played HS or college ball in Ohio. Bowling Green, Toledo, Cincinnatti all had multiple picks. Even div. 3 power Mt. Union, OH had player.
I just saw "Harvard Beats Yale 29-29", a great football movie by the way, and this is the miracle game that I remember! The players in the movie described a sort of alternate universe/shift in the space-time continuum thing during the closing seconds of the game and I remember feeling that watching this game. So glad to see it on youtube, but it doesn't really convey the drama all that well. Oh well. Check out Harvard Beats Yale 29-29 at your local video store. It's well worth the $3.
I remember this game and they actually broke away from coverage because OU was in command of the game. Then OSU turned it on and ABC came back to the game late in the third quarter. What a finish! That was back when college football was at its peak. I feel sorry for the kids now growing up seeing the theatrics and bs after every play. The term scholar-athlete isn't relevant anymore. Wonder how well all these SEC teams would fare if they had mandatory testing? Go Bucks
OU's history has showed they faced great opponents, in conference or out, and usually beat them. Irregardless of Stoops last few year agonizing Bowl appearances. Texas still remains the barrier and is the "biggest" game on OU's schedule, and that does include NU of the 1970s and 1980s. Matter of fact, OU dominated NU so badly, Osborne almost left NU due to pressure. Texas record vs OU was superior to NU's. OU/Texas is as big as it gets. Blood War.
I admit OU was good back in 70's and 80,s. OU-Nebraska 2nd best rivalry in college football behind Ohio St.-Michigan. And don't even mention Texas-OU. that game played early in season, usually after bye week for 1 or both teams. Ohio State-Michigan always last game of a long grueling season, almost always for league championship or berth for 1 or both teams to major bowl. That's what makes a great rivalry, not that half the crowd wears orange, other half red like Texas-OU. UT-OU rarely nationTV
Oklahoma Sooner Football is an entity unto itself. Past games like this one, justify the "order" of things. This game is still "Sooner Magic" at it's best.Staring QB and RB (both all americans)get hurt in the game, while OU is blowing the game wide open. Coincidentally, OU turns the ball over several (5 times I believe) after QB/RB get hurt(no coincidence) as Blevins played poorly, but completed 1 imp. pass. In a hostile environment, and still win. Rarely do teams pull out wins like this one.
And another thing, any lack of national tv in the Texas game is Texas's fault, not OU's. OU (outside the dark ages in the 90s) is almost always undefeated and a Top 10 if Top 5 team when OU plays Texas. OU vs Nebraska was always national TV in the Big 8 days, but it was never more intense then OU/Texas. Attend an OU/Texas game, then attend a Buckeye/Wolverine game. Almost everyone (other then buckeye or wolverine fans) will come out saying the crazier enviroment and better game is OU/Texas.
Again I'm not saying Oklahoma doesn't have a great tradition, I loved Barry Switzer. Thought he took unfair criticism as Cowboy coach, he was in a no win situation. I'm saying if everyone is bashing Ohio St. for getting beat in last 2 BCS Champ games that it needs to be pointed out that OU has won 1 bowl in last 4 or 5 years, a 3 point win over Oregon, and they were blown out by W Virginia and USC in 2 BCS bowls. Ohio St. was rebuilding last year, OU was ranked top 5 in preseason polls, not OSU.
Texas record vs. the mighty big 10 all time is 8-4 (including PSU). Without PSU included, 7-1 all time. OU clearly owns the big 10 and for that matter, Texas owns the big 10 as well. Oklahoma is college football's all time winningest team, and that has translated to besting the big 10. And when they play future BIG 10 teams, including the buckeyes, OUs win total will increase. Matter of fact, Ohio State is the perfect remedy for OU in a bowl game, to get back on the winning track.
The speed and power Oklahoma had....just awesome. That backfield....hard to beat.
I have the sports illustrated with Uwe Von Schamann on the cover with the winning field goal. This is awesome; I would have loved to have seen when Uwe was orchestrating to the crowd when they were yelling block that kick.
An all time great game!
❤️ Billy Sim & wishbone offense & Barry Switzer against woody Hayes & ohio state 🏈. ❤️ 1970s/ 1980s college football

jobu88 Yep... "The Kick".. another HOF on that great team!
A snowball fight in September?
Hahaaaaa yeah that can't be right. Maybe I have it mixed up with another game we almost blew. I'm old and I forget shit.
Hahaha, all good. We have crazy weather in Ohio but it's usually in the Spring. See you week 3! Good luck!
my first game at OSU, One hell of a game! Elvis Peacock! What a name! Aaron Brown jumping offside on 4th down. The onside kick.
It is one of the greatest football games I've ever watched.
I saw Elvis Peacock play when I was young in Miami. What a great talent.
I remember OSU played Oklahoma in Norman around the 1982-83 years, can’t remember the exact year, but OSU won and Oklahoma had this great running back that later left the Oklahoma team, but I can’t remember his name either.
it didnt show Uwe Von Schamman directing the band before the kick. saw this game on tv. Sooner Majic baby!
Today we got Georgia 🏈 going for three straight national college football national championship; but it too easy to an non A football game
Great editing! A summary of an outstanding game in just under 7 minutes. Well done!
Liked watching Elvis Peacock (#4) for the Sooners. At 212 pounds he could run a 9.4 hundred (and a 4.3 40).
Wow super fast 🏃♀️ running back
Ha! My uncle forced the fumble at the 2:30 mark. I see you Aaron Brown! Even though OSU lost this was one hell of a football game!
I was at the 1983 rematch game in Norman and celebrated jubilantly with the Buckeyes that day. Two great programs.
Great field goal kicking by both teams. Great fumbling, too!
❤️ 1970s college 🏈 : ❤️ Oklahoma & ohio state fight songs 🎵
Notice that neither team had an effective passing game. One of the big differences from the current era. Lott must have been injured in the second quarter. Gerald was moved to flanker to make way for Art Scheichter the next season.
Two great college teams, its a shame that they haven't played each other recently.
Woody was never the same
To correct the earlier dates posted regarding the renewal of this series. Everyone was wrong. The actual dates the series resumes (as of today) will be 09/17/2016 in Norman, Oklahoma, and 09/16/2017 in Columbus, Ohio.
A Seminal moment in my Childhood....And I am Still an OU Fan to this day!
❤️ Barry Switzer & wishbone offense & Billy Sim
I don't know if it's available on DVD. I just VHS'd it from a local ABC channel that re-aired it about 4 or 5 years ago.
Columbus Day September 24th 1977 the day Woody Hayes discovered the Sooners
My first game at OSU. Freshman year! Hell of a game by two really good teams!
Thanks..muchly needed after K State debacle
Great game, remember watching this as a high schooler. Man, that Sooner wishbone was something to behold.Thomas Lott, Billy Sims......so much fun to watch. Sooners stole one that day though.
You always had to admire the Big 8 for going on a home and home series with the big names of college football. Florida State did the same thing with Bobby Bowden. Oklahoma and Florida State never played cupcake football teams to ascend to the college football throne.
In 1990 Florida St. chose to join the ACC instead of the SEC. They took the easy way out.
@@chuckwest7045 I do not believe electing to play Clemson is attempting to avoid playing anyone.
@@Nastyfinger1444 .....That's not what I said. You're putting words on my keyboard. And I'd rather play Clemson every year than Alabama, LSU, and Florida every year.
@@chuckwest7045 Be sure and drink your Ovaltine.
@@Nastyfinger1444 ......In other words, you've got nothing to come back with.
I always remember this game because they played four days after I started at Ohio State.
I miss the Sooner wishbone!!
Me too. Nebraska coach Tom Osbourne, too, it college football, it saved bear Bryant career coaching career
It's a fact that there is between 11 & 12 min. of action in 1 NFL game. Just read that article yesterday or the day before.
Lots of things are better. Being a Sooner fan for one.
Great Game, 1977, a rare treat, first meeting between superpowers. Is this game on DVD?
OU had Chris Sims' number every game. I wish he was still a Shorthorn.
No, this was an early non-conference scheduled game from Sept. 1977
How many times did we fumble in this game?
One thing I wish OU would do is retire jersey numbers. No one should ever have worn 24 after Joe Washington.
I have said the same thing a million times.
And the game in question was the one posted, not 6 years later. Focus! :)
I don't know if he was stoned or not but he brought OU 3 of their 7 national championships. BOOMER SOONER!
Even for a Bucknut fanatic, that rush at 0:42 is awesome.
Go Bucks
The damage OU has inflicted on Mack and The Shorthorns (including Vince Young) is priceless. Beat-downs of epic proportions. Boomer
45-12 is a beat down.. Just sayin’..
Blood War.
Is OSU #32 Jack Tatum
Senior year, most of the team was hanging around the weight room watching this game.
Was this a bowl game???
Texas record vs. the mighty big 10 all time is 8-4 (including PSU). Without PSU included, 7-1 all time. OU clearly owns the big 10 and for that matter, Texas owns the big 10 as well. Oklahoma is college football's all time winningest team, and that has translated to besting the big 10. And when they play future BIG 10 teams, including the buckeyes, OUs win total will increase. Matter of fact, Ohio State is the perfect remedy for OU in a bowl game, to get back on the winning track.
