Nobody covers a Bon Iver song quite like Bon Iver covers a Bon Iver song.
This comment is perfect ❤
Lol. Absolute perfection.
When you fall again in your Bon Iver period....
Just take my empathetic upvote, man.
Gets me every 3-4month, and hasn't stop since 2010 :(
it’s not even a period for me lol it’s all i’ve listened to for a long time
I never left it to begin with
Once you take a good listen on any Bon Iver song, you can never get out of it. For me, there have never been periods! Bon Iver has always been filling my days with his music! Justin Vernon really is unbeatable.
Justin Vernon is, without a doubt, one of the greatest song writers of our time
Timothy Ramos yeah I think it’s because we live in a great time for songwriters. We are blessed with the likes of Justin Vernon, Jason Isbell, Sufjan Stevens, The Tallest Man on Earth, and many.
I share your opinion mate.
@@HT-yc6kh adding Ben Howard to that list too
of All Time
he didn't actually write this song, it was written by a guy called Sean Carey so you have to give credit where credit is due
I love how NOBODY screams.... Respect to the crowd.....
In a rocking chair with my newborn daughter at 4am listening to this. Euphoric
Hope ya'll doing okay and get some sleep. This song is magic!
Not many better things to do xxx
Sitting in the car watching this because my 1 year old fell asleep on way home and I get to enjoy this extended moment as she slumbers before heading into the house for some family chaos/fun/struggle and just so thankful.
beautiful
Congrats !
this might be my favourite live recording of any song of all time
Hey there, you reading through the comments trying to feel surrounded by people who understand just how deeply you feel this kind of music or life in general. You're not alone.
Thank you for this comment ❤️

Thank you for this comment! None of my friends listen to Bon Iver. Glad to find my people here❤️
thanks, this warmed my heart
My sons and I go walking in Pilbara in Western Australia. When we get up to a peak on a hill, we play Bon Iver. My son is 7 and says, can you play Holocene because I want to have a melt down (he means meditation 😂)…
We sit there and watch the wedge tail eagles flying around and melt down ❤❤❤😂
beautiful, i grew up in the pilbara smack bang in between port hedland and marble bar. ended up moving to the city because of work, but recently went back and had justin vernon amongst other music and it damn near brought me to tears, glad to know someone else has shared a similar experience :)
I often wonder why none of my friends feel about music like I do - the nights I'm lost in this kind of music ain't countable no more - I just wander, feeling warm and cold at the same time, and whatever feelings it gives me, I just keep coming back for more - any people experiencing the same thing, or is it just me?
Me too, mate, me too!!
Sounds like you're full of shit mate
Every time.
@@bobbydazzler-4300 Sounds like you're missing out
@@priyathapliyal9773 haha, glad i'm not the only one!!
This is the kind of music that makes your life better. No matter what's happening, what you're going through. You play stuff like this and the world is beautiful.
Listening to this with everything going on in the world brings a bit of comfort.
It stabilises the heart
Hunter Benson This is one of the few songs I can actually remember hearing for the first time. It’s nice to hear it in a new way now.
Amen to that. Lovely tune.

Thanxxxxxx he’s amazing! My lover basically!
My dog has bellowed to this song with every harmonica crescendo since she first heard it as a puppy. As she lays in my arms now withering away from kidney disease, I can still feel her body trembling wanting to get the howl out one last time, but she hasn’t the energy anymore. It’s just the most beautiful sad thing I have ever experienced in my life and it kills me.
Dear One, sending thoughts of love and healing to your dear dog. Angels send their love to you and your sweet angel. You've been blessed to have so much love in your life. The precious love that your sweet dog blesses you with is eternal. Cry on, love never dies dear one.

@@robertl8177 What a stupid comment.
I had a dog with kidney disease, and she lived 4 years in stage 3. Trust me when I say to not let your dog suffer.
Lived in Calgary for 55 years but only heard this for the first time tonight. Bone chilling performance, just like our winters.
They need to release this live version on an EP or album. This reworked version is just so pure and touching. It means a lot to me. Pure musical art. Best regards from Holland!
i wanna listen to this driving home from the smokey mountains, the suns setting, i just got done a really nice hike, thought about life for a while, finally felt okay with things, and i'm heading home, it's gonna be a long drive but i'm looking forward to every second of it
Patrick Hurley I hope you had a nice drive . Just read this message . So random.
Patrick Hurley did you go?
@@CronoXpono I could actually picture that... Definitely adding to my to do list after lockdown
this is gold.
Hallelujah ♥️ Perfect back roads song.
It's crazy how perfect deep voice he got and can go beautifully high
The harmonica at the start of this performance always gives me chills
Every day three times. Dare I say it's my favourite part of this performance?
I have the same feelings, too.❤
💯 😊

The magic of bon iver - makes me feel homesick for a place ive never been. Its impossible for me to not remember all the people i care about when i hear this song
Concordo. Nos faz sentir em outra dimensão.
This is the feeling that I felt
It's amazing.
I’m home sick for the home I’ve never had
Felling pain for a place I’ve never been
It’s impossible to remember all the people I love when I sing
Magnificent
Justin is the perfect host. He invites you in, gives you a blanket, puts the kettle on, and then unapologetically tells you about his heartbreak
this is how i deal with anxiety
And so we enter another year in which I hope that we can pay any sum for the full release of this show
I'd buy this concert on bluray for a 100 dollars without flinching. That's how much better Bon Iver are than 99% of all other music readily available today.*
* My opinion of course.
without hestition.
*your opinion. fair enough.
i go from heavy electro house, to hip-hop and this indie stuff bon iver produces. nothing wrong with 99% of the other music out there.
It's just that shit 1% they repeat on the pop radios from katy perry to justin bieber -- its fking trash.
+Jason Hepple Yeah, it's a deeply personal opinion probably grounded in my personal experience. Their music is just exactly what my brain craves. I understand that for someone else that might as well be Queen or Nas. I listen to a great deal of other music too, but Bon Iver manages to make me feel a little bit better than any other music can (except for Mree who also has that same effect on me).
100% accurate
100%***
when he talks, a shiver goes down to my fucking toes.
I love the original version, but this rendition is pure magic. Same with the live version of Heavenly Father from this concert. I know Justin seems to be heading down a direction with many more electronic tones being added, but these stripped down versions are my absolute favorite of his.
AMEN to this. my two favourite ones. It's the emotion that comes through on these two performances. Get me every time
Wasn’t really in to Bon Iver at all until I heard this. Now I’m blown away.
@@GuyDudeman Agreed
*Posting the lyrics so I can read along*
Don't you cherish me to sleep
Never keep your eyelids clipped
Hold me for the pops and clicks
I was only for the father's crib
Hair, old, long along
Your neck onto your shoulder blades
Always keep that message taped
Cross your breasts you won't erase
I was only for your very space
Hip, under nothing
Propped up by your other one, face 'way from the sun
Just have to keep a dialogue
Teach our bodies: haunt the cause
I was only trying to spell a loss
Joy, it's all founded
Pincher with the skin inside
You pinned me with your black sphere eyes
You know that all the rope's untied
I was only for to die beside
So it"s storming on the lake
Little waves our bodies break
There's a fire going out
But there's really nothing to the south
Swollen orange and light let through
Your one piece swimmer stuck to you
Sold, I'm Ever
Open ears and open eyes
Wake up to your starboard bride
Who goes in and then stays inside
Oh the demons come, they can subside
Very much like Neil young ❤️
@@SKIADK
Neil Young is good for sure, but not even close to this. My God! Where these words take me!
thank you for that. can never get too much of this.
you should ad the "la da dada das" its an important part of the prose; timing especially, and literally part of the lyrics...how could you even ignore that?...0/10 lyric post.
AmIKawaiiYet? literally not the end of the world, you gotta chill
The harmonica at the start is a thing to die for.
That woulda been nutsssss if he put this on the 10th anniversary
Woulda been tooo much heat on that record
thank you to this video for never having an ad before it
Af the end when he doesn't finish the word "subside" but instead leaves it in the harmonica. That's just beautiful
David Moore I just don‘t seem tomfind the right words to describe this man. Truly a gift, that’s for sure.
I think I have listened to the end of this video over 100x just to hear the harmonica at the end.
I could listen to the the last minute of this song on repeat til I die. I always come back to these Sydney Opera House performances, without a doubt one of his best live shows. Dude is just ridiculous.
I immigrated to the USA last year and I remember listening to this music in our new apartment with no bed, lying on the ground feeling sad for what I had left but hopeful to what was to come. Listening to this song takes me back to that night after a hard day of work in my dark room with no lamps. Oh what I have left. Oh what is to come.
Welcome friend. Glad you had this song during that time :)
The chokehold this man has had over me for the last fourteen years.
This man is without a doubt one of the most brilliant musicians to ever roam this planet.
And he even adds so much more to all his musical genius. What an extraordinary artist he is. Breathtaking.
Justin pressing his final note just slightly through the harmonica is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard
Justins falsettos are incredible and more impressive than this but omg I've never heard a warmer voice.
he ain't right! when he combines voice and harmonica simultaneously at the end. everything this man touches is precious, sensitive and damn right fucking marvellous.
The reaction from the crowd, when Justin says 'Calgary', gives me shivers every time. They're aware of the special moment they're about to enjoy and, even after 1000 listens, I still can't shake the feeling that this guy is an absolute genius storyteller of a songwriter.
That's even before you consider how unbelievable his range is as well as the natural talent for music he has.
I was at this show and I sobbed so hard the entire time even the waterproof mascara I purchased especially for the show (knowing I would cry) ran all down my face 🫠
@@ellen9018 Same for me when he came to Atlanta. He played Heavenly Father and I just about went to pieces. Bon Iver is one of the only bands I refuse to memorize their lyrics because it means something different every time I listen.
Overwhelming, overwrought and overjoyed, all at the same time.
makes me homesick for a home I remember but have never had.
Redeemed1985 seriously the best description of a song I have ever heard!
Ugh, me too. Love it so much 😊
the city this song is named after, is a place just like he sings it. so many emotions.
Hiraeth
Similar to a John Moreland lyric from "Hang me in the Tulsa County Stars"
I beg you to release the full performance for profit, I'll buy it no matter the price. On the internet, cd, tape cassette, vinyl, whatever you want, just please do it.
This one is the best reworks of a song that I've ever heard
The different stages this song has went through is insane. This final live version is absolutely beautiful.
As I sit in awe at what I just witnessed, I ponder how something like this can make me feel things on a level that isn't so easily comprehendible. Non-tangible and not of this realm.
The only justification I have is that music like this is an extension of the soul... and thats why we feel things we don't understand... because this is Justin's soul reaching out and placing a hand on our shoulder, giving us a glimpse from a perspective unfamiliar.
There are forces we don't understand out there, and potentially some we never will. This magic that happens is a force that extends beyond human comprehension.
I can’t get enough of this. Calgary has been my home, for most of my life. This song represents the soul of an amazing city amongst the foothills of the rockies.
I went through a time where this song wasn’t welcomed in my life because it was so brutally honest.
Face your fears young padawan.
the fact that you welcome it now is all the proof you need that you can indeed conquer your fears
Oh man! This really is Cohen vibes. What a gem to stumble across. wowow
My daughter shared this song with me today I listened to it 15 times tonight and im still getting goosebumps what a great song, I love you Brooklynn your the best.

@@tadowjonez ah let's be honest. I love Bob but her was neither good at guitar or harmonica or singing for that matter.
Oh, no?
i had to rewatch the whole video just to notice that Justin himself is playing the harmonica.
That piano tho..... Complimenting this song with its simplicity.
"I was only for to die beside" His lyrics are incredible
This version makes me shake endlessly
I think we found a solution to our energy problems!
Maybe wanna talk to a doctor about that
I'm really liking these re-worked songs. Justin Vernon is the man.
Whenever i need some piece of mind i come back right here anytime i couldn't find god i still could find myself through a song
This is the best version of this song ive ever heard, it just sounds and means sso much to me. Its absolutely amazing, and the last lyrics, oh my god man. X
My stomach is tingling, I'm kinda nervous, yet want to cry, but still smile like a dummy. Man I fell in love with a song. This is amazing.
How does Bon Iver simultaneously have the most beautiful falsetto and the most beautiful of deep voices too? Too much!
This is probably the best version of calgary
It's like 10/10 performance, flawless.
There’s just something so special about Justin’s music. I can’t quite explain how it makes me feel. It’s almost like through music it expels a sense of longing but also hope. It brings me comfort in this world of uncertainty.
Feel so lucky to have been there for this, don't think a week goes by and I don't think about it...
The feet moving is relatable
Back again in 2022..
Edited: And Back again in 2023…December..after a whole year 😅
Edited: Still coming back in 2024
Justin/Bon Iver always has the power to make me feel all alone in the world, but also like there is something big waiting out there for me. Like the sweetest kind of solitude and melancholy combined, and I keep coming back for more. Few other artists can do that. He is a treasure for sure.
May 2020-proof Bon Ivers music can still bring joy in a time of misery
Why does this version make me ball my eyes out?
This version will forever haunt us. ❤
Love you, Justin.
Words cant describe how much i jam with this type of music
this is just so good, what a talent JV is, blows my mind
If anyone has seen the movie “Into the Wild”, this song would fit perfectly with the soundtrack by Eddie vedder
That actually sounds amazing. Vedder and Vernon would make an intriguing pairing.
YES
Definitely. My favorite song by Justin paired with one of my favorite films.
I think every bon iver song would probably fit hahah
YEP! Nailed it right on the head!
Thank You Mr Justin Vernon. Thanks for the liberation from the weight of sadness that's part of this fleeting physical plane
I am always coming back to this. Justin is magic in human form.
A cadence is worth a thousand words. and nobody does it better than Justin. Genius
hes cracked all the codes. greatest musician to ever live
I have avoided commenting on your video for around 18 months..
Thís, what you (all) do... Surpasses brilliance.
Needless to say: I am a fan
1. this is incredibly beautiful 2. why on earth isn't this whole concert uploaded *i cri*
A lot of new music to me feels hard, melodramatic, and like sitting on plastic.
This feels soft , heartfelt, and like a blanket with many different textures.
I hope to keep finding gems like Calgary.
Im so happy guys that we can share this song and the feelings with each others 💕
There is no one who could
re create this.
Please Vivid LIVE release more videos of bon iver at the opera house!!!!!
Agreed!
I'd buy this whole concert on bluray or cd without hesitation. Pure magic.
Where did you buy it?! :o

Matthias Lm Fhfdfg
Hold me for the pops and clicks 😭
wish I could like this video twice
This needs to be on Apple Music. This version of the song is one of my favourite things in music
Without music would have ran mad a long time ago
Oh God what is this feeling
Also my exact question right now
He performed this rendition when I saw him play in Durham, NC a couple years ago. Hands down the best of sounds to ever grace my ears.
Thank you, Justin.
Despite the chaos in the World, we still seek a sliver of solace in the manifestation of human love through a song, a movie, a painting or some form. Our memories of peace and love triggered by it. It is profound.
Love and peace to all.
Makes me want to cry but I dont know why. Maybe it is just so beautiful.
4:35 - 5:00 min just kills me every time. The tone in his voice is incredible. (as is the whole song!!!)
This exact part is why i listen to this everyday
Sounds like a baby crying
This is simply a Masterpiece of art… Striking right to the Soul… Glad I could listen to this before I die…
In my opinion, this is the definitive version of the song. How incredible. JV is THE MAN
When he sings through the harmonica at the end is beautiful
That ‘oohh’ before he starts. Wow
I never had a boyfriend so I'm gonna have a Bon Iver fan in the right time, but if none, I'm gonna live my life alone but not lonely cuz I have Bon Iver ♥️.
hope you do now?
A perfect blend of art, music, poetry, soul, deeply resonating within. I somehow blossom anew each time I listen, somehow also feel adrift...this song is a gift to my senses. Thank you.
I try to go to the Sydney Opera House at least once a year, everything is amazing there.
CAN YOU PLEASE release the album of this concert...................for the pooooooor fans who couldn't be there....
Why do I found myself coming back everyday to this video. Please, send help.
Sir Vernon, thank you.
Know, you have started a flood of fire and water which will not be doused by time.
The range he has...its blown my mind for 10 years now.
2022 and I'm listening to bon iver and van Morrison
