I played the NES games & SCV-IV before SotN so SuperCV4 is probably tied with SotN for me just because it blew me away with the huge leap from NES. Good call on Red Dead. Both those are ATFs of mine. Guess I need to try this Slay the Spire since you've talked about it several times. The only console card game I ever got hooked on was Culdcept Saga on 360. Though I played Legends of Norrath and Hearthstone for years. Great video RNG.
Another fantastic video! Eternal Darkness is one of my all time favorite games! Love how it messed with you as the player. Always look forward to your Saturday videos, brother!
@RNGGamerYT red dead redemption 2 I want to play I play the first one and slay the spyer looks interesting it reminds me of yugi oh. The fire emblem game looks good I think I only played one of them. it was on the GBA that's the first time I was introduced to it. Hope soon I could go into that franchise
Symphony of the Night was the first game I ever thought of as an all time favorite. That's what the SotN means. I tend to mentally have different eras of favorites these days, because there's just been so many games I truly love, even in the last decade or so.
I still have yet to play Portal 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Slay the Spire, but I can say that I fully agree with you about Symphony of the Night, Eternal Darkness, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Devil's Crush. Those are all classics that have held up very well over time.
SOTN is the only game I replay every 2 years or so (in October). I view the game as a vacation or a home away from home in a way. It's crazy how immersed I feel. The atmosphere and music is simply "magical". It's the only game I would describe that way.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is so good, I loved the first one too, but I think the most time i have ever put into a video game is Red Dead Online. I just love how much fun the Red Dead series is. Totally a great and amazing game! Great video brother!
I remember before SOTN released my local funcoland had a demo video showing gameplay and hyping it up. That’s the reason why I was excited to pick it up
Fantastic! I just actually added a new game to my top list. I absolutely had a blast with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Oh and I picked up Eternal Darkness CIB for far too much. It was one of my holy grails on the Gamecube. Enjoyed your video!
I'm currently playing through RDR2 - about 20 hours in - and man is it ever amazing. Everything about it completely locks in the feeling of living life as a real cowpoke.
As soon as I had enough money for PS1 in '97 I got Tekken 3, FF7, Cool Boarders 2, and SOTN. Love it and glad its available on many different pieces of hardware.
Couldn't agree more with Castlevania symphony of the Night and Eternal Darkness. One of my biggest regrets is a gamer is I still haven't played Red Dead redemption 2 and it's the amount of time that I'm going to need to put into the game that is scaring me from playing it. I heard devil's crush is absolutely amazing. So many people have raved about it. I love these videos because I get to relate and then also find a game I haven't played and maybe that I can add to the list. Oh and my son has played Portal 2 and I've watched him play it. It's one of his top 10 games of all time!
You should give Devil's Crush a shot! It's really is amazing. I already knew how you felt about SotN and Eternal Darkness. But you need to get into RDR2 right away 😁
I love Devil's Crush! Its the best pinball game ever! Nice to see others appreciating it. Strangely Turbo-16 was my first console and I still have it with all games I had back then still in their cases. I played a LOT of Parasol Stars too.
@@RNGGamerYT When I'd have company over as a kid showing other kids that system was hilarious. I'd pull it out and show them the games. you could see the "what the hell is this thing?" right on their face.

Commented before about this and I mentioned the usual suspects (SotN included) and watching this I can add some - Final Fantasy Tactics! Never played Tactics Ogre or Fire Emblem, but I suspect that the series you chose stuck with you. What I LOVE about FF Tactics was the story, the ambience, of course the gameplay and first and foremost the MUSIC. It was just phenomenal to me. Brought me to another place. Same kind of feeling you get when you hear the Star Wars theme. Also I'm a huge sucker for the 90s point and click stuff, and the ones I loved and still regard as my favorite all time favorite games out of any genre today are Monkey Island 2 and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. I have no idea how many times I've played through those but they never wear on me. Also, TURRICAN 2 for the almighty AMIGA! Best soundtrack in the history of gaming! I urge you all to watch a playthrough on UA-cam. Just make sure it's the Amiga version!
i’m a big fan of cosmic horror and to me , Eternal Darkness is the greatest horror game ever made .the sanity effects were cool, but the story and concept is what really stole the show . what a brilliant game!
This list hit us with a sanity meteor! So many great games. It's insane. Great video series. I am still seeking out Metroidvanias just trying to get that feeling from Symphony.
I have been trying to scratch that Symphony of the Night itch for a long time and I must say 2 years ago I was fortunate enough to receive that spark again with this game called Record of Lodos War: Deelot in Wonderlabrynth I think I got the spelling right LOL but man when I tell you this is probably the closest Symphony of the Night feeling game that I've played. Also Blood Stained: Ritual of the Night is literally 2.5d SOTN. Amazing games. Try them out when you get the chance!!! 😎🎮
@ I will track that Lodoss game down. Thank you! There are so many of those games, I would have never known it was a Metroidvania. My favourite of this style in a modern context is Salt & Sanctuary. I love the RPG elements and the aesthetic.
Slay the spire for me joined the 200 club. The elite few games that I played for 200 hours or more. Alongside Xenoblade Chronicles X and, 2, Binding of Isaac, 2400 hours, Elden Ring. Not many others come to mind in the elite club 200
I am sure you have heard of it and probably played it, but one of my all time favorite games is: Lost Odyssey. It is a JRPG on the Xbox 360. The gameplay is actually surprisingly difficult and is somewhat unique. But the real draw IMO is the storyline. You play as an immortal who basically has amnesia and over the course of the game you unlock new memories from the past. You can... and most people probably do just skip right over these. And I get it, I did the first time through. They very much get in the way of "getting back to the action". But if you slow down and actually read these memories it is very rewarding, imo. Each one is like a short story; sometimes like 30-50 pages long.
I spent many, many nights playing Devil's Crush and Blazing Lasers - IMHO 2 games that alone justified the reverence the TG16 commands even today. Not for nothing but I am frankly shocked that neither of these titles have been rebooted on modern consoles.
The fact that Metroidvania became the title is still funny. The concept everyone ran with is still just Metroid. Also of note symphony of the night used a lot of rpg gearing strategy and that’s not prevalent in many metroidvanias either. Still a catchy name though. Better than Metroid clone
Great video. Got some PC games for you to check out. Armello, a Table top board game that has multiple paths to victory. Across the oblisk, a Slay the spire clone where you make a 4 character team and it is multi player.
Great picks, dude. I love Slay the Spire. Really looking forward to the sequel. My friends and I have been playing the board game. It's also really fun. 👍
One I always go back to is Darkest Dungeon. Was doing a new run recently then Ninja Gaiden II Black shadow dropped and threw that out the window. Very excited for 4!
Fantastic list.... Sotn and Eternal Darkness are definitely top 10 for me(maybe top 5) My dad and I beat eternal darkness so many times that we got that special ending on the fourth run...great memories. My dad was a huge Silicon Knights fan so he passed that down to me haha. My favorite part of the game still is when you're playing Paul Luther(The monk) and you do the playthrough where the Green variant boss is there going "Paul......Luther...." "Is this the one who seeks to do combat with me?" And then just explodes his head 🤣🤣. Poor Paul, great game. Also slay the spire is one of the best indie games ever made.
Great list, RDR2 is the best game I have ever played. Red Dead Redemption 1 was right there at the top until 2 came out, I can’t believe how good the game is; I have probably played it for over 1000 hours. Dutch drives me crazy, and I yelled at the screen all the time about him. Many of the games here I have played and are also in the best of all time list for me. The orange box are you kidding me, so much in one package. Slay the Spire has taken over 500 hours from me, probably a lot more, I agree with all you said about it.
SOTN is my #1 ARPG and somewhere in my top 10 (I've never sat down and made a list). I've been waiting forever for a sequel that progresses Alucard's story. I would only accept a game made in the same style with 2D sprites, beautiful music, and tons of RPG elements and equipment. I've made donations to modders that are attempting to work on projects, but nothing's come to completion that I've heard. I would give so much to get a huge numbered series going so I could play these for the rest of my life. It's peak gameplay with endless ways to innovate. I never understood why there are only side-stories on handhelds. We have the collections on modern consoles now, so lets go even further beyond!
I wish Castlevania Symphony of the Night was on the switch physical especially but I agree with you it is my favorite game of all time that feeling when I found out that literally there was an inverted Castle that you had to go through was amazing and once you get the super weapon in the game you're unbeatable
Thanks for inspiring me to play RDR2, now I just have to finish Triangle Strategy first. I have seen a few of my all time favorites on your shelving. Have you had a chance to play Dark Cloud or Dark Cloud 2 on PS2 yet?
You named 3 of my favourite games of all time too :-) l....eternal darkness was brilliant....slay the spire I still binge today and fire emblem is brilliant too such a great turn based strategy :-)
@RNGGamerYT I've seen a few of your vids over the years and I think if you like fire emblem there's and old ps2 game you might enjoy if you've not played it already...ring of red...its a turn based mech game with a alternative 2nd World War aftermath story that is really fun to play :-)
I played Eternal Darkness 4 times in a row to get the secret ending lol. Very good game, and I don't usually like horror games. Yea I don't think anyones gonna contest your choices of "best games ever played". This is a very safe list lol. The only potential friction would be Awakening, but even then, a lot of people will say the story wasn't good, but the game was. Hmm, have you ever played Pokemon Pinball? Do you even have it in your collection? If you don't. I highly recommend. More in step with this pinball though would be Metroid pinball, which was pretty good. There really aren't enough good pinball games.
@@RNGGamerYT well there you go lol. Well if you even do play Pokemon pinball, it's the Sapphire and Ruby one I'm talking about for the GBA. As for Metroid, that was a DS game.
I think i will get portal 2. Off the top of my head Kingdom come deliverance would definitely be on my list amazing story and world and full of so much beautiful scenery and places. I platinumed it and i am planning to play it again on hardcore with all negative perks so i can get the last 2 trophies that aren't even required for platinum.
@RNGGamerYT probably by reviewer aren't really gamers and those who couldn't take the time to learn the combat. For ne its better than skyrim. I would spend hours just wandering around the woods hunting rabbits then find some beautiful stream follow ut up to another area that i didn't know existed. The game has some clunkiness in the menu but it is a master piece. There is a reason kcd2 is so anticipated.
Virtual pinball and sonic pinball for Genesis were my jams back in the day. Otherwise, never a fan of most of the gta games but rdr1-2 are great games. Lastly. Sotn is definitely a top 10 for me. You could play as Alucard in castlevania 3? It's been awhile.
Brother! The man himself James says to send his regards to you good sir! In short, he says he doesn’t collab very often, usually busy. However, it is possible. Methinks if you have an idea of what to do, might really be worth it to shoot the shot and reach out. Ohboyohboy :3
Pretty good selection of games so far RNG. As for the GTA and Red Dead franchises, without Dan Houser, the magic will not be replicated again. I hope that I am proven wrong.
If U like slay the spire, ui gotta do ROGUE BOK, for real. I loks like a sequel for slay spire in its graphicalm lstyle, but very unique, u use TWO chartacters, one can die but u r not finished yet. And awesome grid system, exploiore grid for items and posersups between matches. I thnk I did 200 hours on it too, and the magic the gathering creatir was involved with making this game and its design iirc
The first Castlevania I played was Castlevania 64. Needless to say a franchise can't make a worse first impression. It took me over a decade to appreciate these games, but I'm glad I did. But 64 ... That's the inbread cousin that grew up to become an anti social pet torturer. Here's a challenge (or possibly a video you could do): Imagine you're stuck playing only one franchise (including spin offs) for 6 months. I can see myself doing that with Castlevania. And Yakuza of course. Any other franchises you can imagine doing that with?
@ it’s definitely in my top 5 games of all time. I personally like it even more than Slay the Spire. It just has such a unique identity. I think you’ll really appreciate it.
@@RNGGamerYT Ok this makes a lot of sense now why you gear towards the PS1 games as your best gaming cuz you were like in your teens at that point. I must say you put a lot of modern style games as the best ever. Well if you like that cool. I was expecting more Genesis & Snes games.
I was totally opposit eof u with Castlevania Symphony of the night, I was pissed off at the crppy 3d graphics everywhere., I was dfisapointed very much with the first 3D gen on consoles. Blurry, chunky, big flat triangles, fog, pop in, low framerate crap, especialy bad because i got N64 first (Nintendo SHITSTY four) BUt when I saw Castlevania SOTN I crapped my pants, FINALLY a 2D game! And it loks amazing, I bought it sight unseen, didnt knbow ay hthing except it was 2d from the back. What a surprise when it was a Metroidvania. I beat the game and wanted more, but sad it was over. Then I saw in a maghazine, it mentioned the upside down castle! It is missable! the game does not tell u how to gfet to it! Holy crap, double th egame! I literally put the game down becuase I thought I beat it. And some weeks later or more I finally learned from a magazine.
I bet that was an incredible experience! The first time I saw it was at a friend's house... and he was already on the inverted castle. When I played it years later, I couldn't figure out how he did it 🤣
@@RNGGamerYT I quickly searched for it, thinking I missed it on the Switch, but Sony helped make the requiem collection, I doubt it will ever come to the switch.
I loved Red Dead Redemption 1, but RDR2 was boring! The story never grabbed me like the first one. Very overrated game. I made a top 10 most overrated games video on my channel, and RDR2 was number 8 on the list.

I can't wait to play the handheld spinoffs... but I agree, it desperately needs a proper sequel.
Great video
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it
@RNGGamerYT, you're welcome
SotN is in my Top 5. One of my greatest sorrows is that i can never play it for the first time ever again...
AND IT STILL ISN'T ON NINTENDO SWITCH!
I wish I could play it again for the first time, too!
I wish Castlevania Symphony of the Night was on the switch physical especially but I agree with you it is my favorite game of all time that feeling when I found out that literally there was an inverted Castle that you had to go through was amazing and once you get the super weapon in the game you're unbeatable
It's on the requiem collection!!!
@@RNGGamerYT it's not
I have now added Slay the Spire to my wishlist
It's a remarkably good game!!!
Devil's Crush looks awesome
It is!
Thanks for inspiring me to play RDR2, now I just have to finish Triangle Strategy first.
I have seen a few of my all time favorites on your shelving. Have you had a chance to play Dark Cloud or Dark Cloud 2 on PS2 yet?
By the way, your channel has quickly become my go to video game YT channel. Great videos every week!
I have played them both a bit!!! I should go back and finish them
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that 😆
I said "DECK" building.. !!!! lol. Great Video. Now I want to play Eternal Darkness.. ugh.. 1 more game to add to my long list to play..
Deck!!!
Eternal Darkness is great!!! You should definitely give it a shot
Played Belatro. I need more rounds in it but igets to me just how many joker cards there are.
It's overwhelming sometimes!
You named 3 of my favourite games of all time too :-) l....eternal darkness was brilliant....slay the spire I still binge today and fire emblem is brilliant too such a great turn based strategy :-)
You have great taste 😄
I haven't played either pokemon pinball or Metroid pinball! I don't even own them 🫠
@@RNGGamerYT well there you go lol.
Well if you even do play Pokemon pinball, it's the Sapphire and Ruby one I'm talking about for the GBA. As for Metroid, that was a DS game.
I have been thinking of getting Eternal Darkness for the last 20+ years. It's going to the basket now 😏
I'm glad I could convince you to give it a chance!
@RNGGamerYT Yes, and Dragon Force before that. Listening to your nonsense gonna cost me some money 🤣🤣🤣👌
I've heard mixed things about kingdom come deliverance. It does look interesting, though
Yeah! Alucard was in Castlevania 3, for sure.
Sonic Spinball is an interesting game... I played the crap out of it
Brother!
The man himself James says to send his regards to you good sir! In short, he says he doesn’t collab very often, usually busy. However, it is possible.
Methinks if you have an idea of what to do, might really be worth it to shoot the shot and reach out.
Ohboyohboy :3
That's awesome! I'll try to think of something
Lol pammy really liked a couple of the games you reviewed here mainly portal
I'm glad! Did you see anything you liked?
@ can’t go wrong with a metroidvenia type of game. Love castlevania games and Metroid honestly sounds like one I definitely want to play
Did you really have an "Ok boomer" experience with Symphony of the Night when you were in middle school? 😂
I really did!!! 🤣
Oh "slay the spire"! I only heard about this two days ago! Yeah I read that it was great
It's incredible!
Pretty good selection of games so far RNG. As for the GTA and Red Dead franchises, without Dan Houser, the magic will not be replicated again. I hope that I am proven wrong.
There are people out there who love the games more than he does. Hopefully, one of them can carry the torch
Panzer Dragoon Orta is my #1 game 🎉
I still need to finish it 🫠
Hard as balls even on Normal.
But don’t overlook using the small dragon that shoots rapidly, often.
Yeah! Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem!! 🏆🏆
Are they your favorites?
@@RNGGamerYT They are easily in the Hall of the Greats, with Castlevania: Symphony #1. 😎
Have you done a list of your favorite RPGs? I can’t remember.
I haven't!!!
Just so you know, SOTN is NOT on Switch
I just learned this! I could have sworn the requiem collection was on there
Will Scorn be on here??? We definitely know its a memorable game
Don't get me started 🤣
If U like slay the spire, ui gotta do ROGUE BOK, for real. I loks like a sequel for slay spire in its graphicalm lstyle, but very unique, u use TWO chartacters, one can die but u r not finished yet. And awesome grid system, exploiore grid for items and posersups between matches. I thnk I did 200 hours on it too, and the magic the gathering creatir was involved with making this game and its design iirc
Richard Garfield worked on it!?! That's amazing.
I'll definitely go check it out. Thanks for letting me know
my fav pinball game of all time is demon's tilt ps4, rng gamer have you played it
I have it! And I'm excited to try it
The first Castlevania I played was Castlevania 64.
Yeah! Grand Theft Auto would probably be my top pick
Was Portal 2 easy for you or am I just a genius lol? I seem to remember, beating it pretty quick. Very fun game
I didn't have much trouble with it. But it did require some thinking.
Inwas more talking about the genius level of the design.
rng gamer how does sega megadrive crue ball compare to devil's crush
I think cruel ball is supposed to be decent, but not Devil's Crush good
I don’t remember symphony of the night being on the switch
It's on the Requiem Collection!
Man I love the gameplay of portal but gladoos voice grates on my nerves so bad I can't play it long. It literally drives me up the walls
Really!?! I love her voice.
It's one of my favorite parts of the game
The Outer Wilds
...I need to play it so badly!
LoZLTTP is the G.O.A.T action rpg
Well... you should wait around until next week. Because I'm going to talk all about it.
Also, Zelda isn't an RPG 🤣
Eternal Darkness was the shiz
It really was!!!
Have you played Inscryption yet?
I haven't... but I want to sooooo badly
@ it’s definitely in my top 5 games of all time. I personally like it even more than Slay the Spire. It just has such a unique identity. I think you’ll really appreciate it.
Just a question? You're 43 right? How old were you when you started gaming?
I'm not 43... yet 😁
I started gaming when I was 5... two months after I started guitar
In my opinion Nier is a perfect game.
Shhhhhh. It might make an appearance in the next video 😁
Play Balatro and Bloons TD 6. You'll thank me, later
Oh nevermind lol. You mentioned it in the video
I play balatro several times a week over on the 2nf channel!
When I played it years later, I couldn't figure out how he did it 🤣
Castlevania SotN is not on Switch.
You might be right. I was mistaken.
I could have sworn the requiem collection was on switch
I would kill for an Eternal Darkness remake…but it won’t hit the same after you’ve played it once 😅🥲
They tried to Kickstart a spiritual successor. But it didn't get funded
Sadly sotn is not on switch
It's on the requiem collection!
Wow, really!?!
portal game is I dislike
Really!?! What makes you dislike it
