You are one of the few gaming channels who has a voice that I would love to hear narrate random stories. Thanks for the ongoing quality on yojr presentations.
So nice to see a *positive* review of these less challenging games. So many videos mocking easier games and the people that play them, this was a joy to watch. Also I'm enjoying your vocabulary, there's a lot of retrogaming youtubers who would benefit from glancing at a thesaurus once in a while. Great video, I appreciate your efforts!
These are all great, though I did find Monster in My Pocket a little boring for my tastes. I'm always happy to shine a positive light on my gaming experiences when it's warranted, and that was the case here. Thanks for your kind words!
These uploads on this channel are my favorite thing to look forward to. I work my ass off at work so when I get the chance and you upload a video it makes my day. Thank you for all that you do
If you didn't know, it recently got a brand new game like last year. From what I've seen it has a nice art style. I haven't played it (I already have a huge backlog of games) but it's on my wishlist.
When you got to that part about dying in Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout, I couldn't stop thinking about that Bugs Bunny "HOBOKEN! Ohhh, I'm dyin again!" clip that sorta went viral last year along with Daffy Duck's enemies from his Duck Tracy cartoon.
*Japan uses blue lights for "go" rather than green.* ALL the Looney Tunes games on NES and Game Boy were originally something else in Japan. Think Doki Doki Panic vs. SMB2. Also, the Angry Video Game Nerd did two NES Bugs Bunny game videos, this one and the Crazy Castle series, and (to me) they're some of the funniest skits in my entire adult memory. I don't know if you're into crude slapstick but if so, I highly recommend both (in order). All the classic tropes are in there. I'm actually going to re-watch them immediately after this. Thanks again for yet another enjoyable video. I really want to try several of these games now!
Interesting. They also had green worms as well, which is why I was confused. Red, green and blue! I have seen nearly all of AVGN's videos. Big fan! And I hope you have fun with these games if you decide to give them a try someday.
Sorta. They actually use the same green we do, they just classify it as "ao", which is the original word that means both blue and green, rather than "midori", which is the modern word that its closer to western green. How these are distinguished (at least on the blue-green border) is often by context more than shade--green vegetation is still ao and not midori, and for whatever reason, traffic lights are classified as ao. So even though it's the same green, they still use blue to depict it sometimes since it's in the same domain--same as how we probably wouldn't bat an eye if someone depicts a traffic light with lime green rather than a more accurate green. (this isn't unique to Japan of course... anglos typically classify alligators as green despite the fact the amount of green on any given alligator is minuscule if present at all; calling anything else that was the color of a typical alligator "green" would probably get you side-eyed)
I had totally forgotten about Kabuki Quantum Fighter! So many NES games captivated my imagination in a way that subsequent generations of hardware have struggled to equal.
I keep finding such good experiences on the NES. I grew up with the console but only had a few games back then. So many things are new to me! I'd be happy to stay in this console generation forever.
I found your channel 2 days ago and love your channel you got me to start playing dragon boy 3 on master system emulator I love you work keep on making awesome videos
@ oh cool! Definitely gonna get the remake then I’m so excited thanks for introducing me to this game I’m also trying astriex for master system cuse of u
For Rescue Rangers, here's a little trick I learned when this game first came out: Start the game as two-player co-op and kill off the other player (you can pick him up and throw him into enemies). You'll only need half the flowers necessary for the floating star to appear.
I had a really good time playing Felix for the first time this year. It also brought back fever dream like memories of The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat, a 90s reboot that was on YTV.
I remember the Felix the Cat cartoon, especially the theme song that just said "The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat" over and over again (at least that's what my memory's telling me!)
You taught me a couple of tips that I didn't know about Little Sampson and Quantum Fighter, so thank you for that. 😁 I'm glad to see a new video from you, this was a lot of fun.
For games that aren't too hard, I'd add Rescue: The Embassy Mission. It's really short, not too hard once you figure out what to do, but I had so much fun with that. I probably never would have played it if I didn't get a batch of NES games from a video store going out of business in the 90s.
Yeah! I was pretty busy at the end of last year and took a bit longer to get this one together, but hopefully I'll go back to more frequent uploads now.
Kabuki Quantum Fighter is so good and so fluid! I never thought about his extra jump frames were actually a negative thing, but when I played it it absolutely got me hit. And I love that Little Mermaid game, but it's hardly an afternoon's worth of time! Great stuff!
Those extra frames are tricky in a few games I've played before! It was really only the flame ascension part that drove me nuts in Kabuki Quantum Fighter because I couldn't parse out the timing. I'm sure there's a better way, but it evaded me! Thanks so much for popping by again!
Awesome video as always HG! Had to laugh at the Bugs Bunny bosses walking …MENACINGLY. For Chip & Dale, the 2p mode feels like more of a challenge than 1p as it can get chaotic with both munks whipping objects around and colliding with one another - but that is half the fun of couch co-op!
They're so threatening. I'm pretty sure Sylvester has a knife! I couldn't quite tell, but that's what it looked like to me! And good to know about the 2p Chip and Dale mode. I was curious about whether or not there would be friendly fire, and I guess I got my answer... haha
Hey thanks so much! My husband's been helping me set up nice shots like that to add into my UA-cam videos. He's been fiddling with vintage lenses on a modern camera, so all of that was recorded using a lens from the 1970s. I'm really proud of how the transitions turned out, and how this video came out as a whole.
Glad to see Little Mermaid get a mention. I still have fond memories of that game. I think part of it comes down to the challenge and gameplay fitting so well with the style and premise from the film.
Fantastic video. I have considered playing some of these titles, but was unsure if I would/could finish them. You have instilled some confidence and a second look!
Nice video! Those look like a breath of fresh air compared to what I knew of the NES library. I didn't know that version of Toki existed or most of this list really. Thanks for sharing!
There are so many good experiences out there. It's just a matter of finding them. I've been playing through NES games my whole life but only had a couple of games until I was an adult. It's been great finding new stuff to enjoy.
Yeah! This one took me a while to put together. The end of 2024 was also pretty busy for me, but I'm hoping I can get back to a more frequent release schedule now. Thanks for your patience!
5:02 Japan has blue traffic lights! Or rather, when traffic lights where introduced in Japan they still used the same word for green and blue (aoi), so go signals could be in any shade between green and blue. Today aoi mostly means blue and midori is used for green, when specificity is needed.
Came to say this, so thank for saving me the typing. I wonder if the requirements were translated directly into English, so it actually became blue in the game.
@@hungrygoriya I mean Japanese traffic signals are red for stop, yellow for wait and any-shade-between-green-and-blue for go. I think it's very interesting how what words we have for colours affect us. On the other end of the Japanese green-blue, we have the Russian blues. What we in English (and Swedish) call blue is considered two separate colors in Russian. Golubój is light/sky blue, while sínij is deep/almost-indigo blue. Come to think of it, here in the west we do the green-blue-thing with the "yellow" light too! In both Swedish and in US English the middle light is called yellow, but technically it's more of an amber (which might be what it's called in the UK?). The Dutch call it orange! I'm pretty sure no one would bat an eye at a middle light in any shade between a pretty pale yellow and a deep orange.
@istrasci They are blue at 5:02, but at 6:19 they are green! The first one is a desert stage and the second one a grassy one, so I wonder if it has to do with palette restrictions.
Astyanax. I don't recall if it has infinite continues, but proper use of Magic, taking your time a bit through the stages, and find the semi-safe spots during bosses make it possible to get through it in your first few attempts. The only difficult parts are cheap knockbacks over pits from a few surprise monster spawns.
Hey Goriya, that is quite funny, I been replaying a ton NES games for my gaming memories and I played only one, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, the rest is all games that I know by name, but never played myself, so many still to discover! thanks for that!
Yo, I'm so glad you talked about Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout. I have always enjoyed this game and it's music. It is short game but that's why I like it. Was a fun quick play with familiar characters. To be fair it was one I played as a kid.
I love that these are some "off the beaten path" NES games...well, maybe not Rescue Rangers, but that's okay since the name of the game here is approachable NES games. Great video as usual!
The line at around 19 minutes 30 seconds actually made me laugh out loud, the very matter of fact delivery is perfect. Toki is a game that I've always overlooked but I really like a bunch of the boss designs and a lot of the environmental pixel art in the clips you showed. I'm also curious about how the game plays, since it's pretty unusual for player projectiles to shoot from that high on the sprite, so I suppose I'm going to have to add it to the list of purchases my local game store can thank you for at some point.
I'm glad it gave you a chuckle. Toki's a fun one! I hadn't considered the high point on the sprite being the place the projectiles come from being a factor to consider. If you play it sometime, I hope you'll let me know what you think.
Haha, I'm not surprised to see Rescue Rangers in this video. It's actually the first game I ever beat as a little kid! Capcom sure did make quite a few gems for the NES.
@@hungrygoriya and the SNES. I still have to finish Tailspin and DW Duck, Ducktales 2, Chip n Dale 2, as well as Beauty and the Beast (a much darker and harder game on the SNES due to the short attack range for the Beast), and the two sequels to Mickey's Magical quest
Love the intro; that kind of darkness with bright colors is perfectly evocative of the NES era! The only one of these I never bothered to finish was Monster in my Pocket, and I enjoyed most of them quite a bit. Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout is the one I've spent the most time with, largely because I love the strange environments, and all the weird things you can do by hammering enemies while already standing on their heads; sending them sailing across the screen, silently screaming in a blind panic before colliding with another foe (sometimes with unique effects, depending on what you hit) was always fun to experiment with. Side note: I just finished a very half-year Yakuza marathon in September, and Japan apparently has blue traffic signals. Also funny you should mention the continue screen from Toki; I remember playing the Arcade original, and the continue screen from that is your girl pleading with you to continue, "Or else I'll be killed!" which I guess is one way to keep you pumping in the quarters... Were I to add to this list, I'd say Dragon Spirit: The New Legend, Mega Man 6, and maybe Jackie Chan's Action Kung-Fu, though the TurboGrafx-16 version of that last one is a bit tougher. If Japanese versions count, I'd throw in Mad City, which is the Japanese Bayou Billy. I might also recommend Garfield: Caught in the Act for the Genesis; I wouldn't necessarily say it's one of the easiest games, but it's a surprisingly solid (and bizarre) Garfield game.
Oh hey! I was watching a bunch of your other videos last night, and thinking, "It's been a couple of months since a video was uploaded. She's probably been busy with the holidays and stuff." And then lo and behold: a new video! ✨📼✨
I always look forward to a new Hungry Goriya video. It's great to hear from somebody who has the patience to give games a fair shake. Lot of good games on this list that I remember from back in the day. While the Nintendo may be the obvious target for a list like this, thanks to the NES Hard reputation, it would also be nice to see similar lists for other retro systems.
I will see if I've finished enough games on other systems to make another video like this in the future. I just happened to play four or five of these NES games back to back this summer and had the idea to put a larger video together on the topic.
Little Samson was so good, but way too short. I was so sad it was over so quickly! Felix the Cat is also fun, but it doesn't feel as polished as other platformers. The panning up and down definitely makes some parts feel less fair than others.
Kirby's Adventure is definitely a game that belongs on a list like this. I wasn't good at games as a kid, but Kirby's Adventure was easy enough to get to the end. The final bosses were a little tricky, but easy to learn how to beat them.
@@hungrygoriya My best friend and I spent an entire afternoon together trying to beat the final boss. When we (mostly my friend) beat it, I was really excited as it was the first time beating a NES game. That is my favorite video game memory.
Thank you so much! We've had a lot of fun setting up all the videos and photos for the last couple of projects. My husband really enjoys photography and this has been especially fun for him.
Great video! There are some really interesting choices here. I've always found that Mighty Sampson kicks my butt but my friends have no problem with it. The Little Mermaid is such a great choice for a kid's (of any age) 'My first NES game'. Dinglehoppers and Snarfblatts for all!
Oh wow! So glad to hear you again! Women gamers arent too rare, but ones with great format, a lot of skills and knowledge, and a really pleasant voice to listen to, are a rare combination. I always look forward to your next video, and im glad one is here for me today
i rarely have the option to watch your twitch streams live but i did watch when you played power blade and was impressed how easy you made it look. Especially sense you never used the healing rations that lets you heal at any time. I do agree that power blade is a manageable game but I definitely used rations a few times to reach the end.
This is an example of a time where I read the manual and everything, but had no idea I could heal... hahaha well, that's news to me! And thanks for checking out the livestreams.
Little Samson is SUCH a gem! It could easily be a game that came out this year! When I first saw it, I thought for sure it was released recently because of how advanced it was!
I was thinking going into this video, “I hope Chip and Dale is on here!” And it was! It was a game I played a lot as a kid and I still find the tunes catchy today.
Oh, hey. You're back. Welcome back, Goriya, and Happy New Year! Your assessment of these titles is… interesting. _Power Blade_ and _Monster In My Pocket_ aren't typically "easy" games, but everyone's experience is different, so… As an aside, if you think _Power Blade_ was _too_ easy and want more of a challenge, you should try the original Famicom version, _"Power Blazer."_ It feels like the prototype of what we go and, despite the fact levels are more straightforward, it's far less forgiving. Still has that killer soundtrack, though~
Happy new year to you! Nice to see you here! My criterion for this was how fast I finished them, and I beat all of these in four hours or less, sometimes my first time playing. I'd like to try a harder version of Power Blade so I might look into that Famicom version sometime. Thanks for the info!
Great list! Many of these titles were promoted in Nintendo Power specifically because they were excellent entry level games for those not already gamers.
Great video as always hg! Love the whole reveal thing you and the hubbs did! I've only tried the majority of these much much more recently, as a another nes household when new, yet owning few games. I havent tried all of these yet (all but monster in my pocket, and bugs bunny. I did randomly beat one of his crazy castle games on Gameboy tho)! Thanks for reminding me! In fact, Ive only played/beaten the nes/Gameboy little mermaid on a physical cart of all the games on this list. If you havent played tiny toon Adventures on nes, I've never finished it, but I enjoy the heck out of it, and it never makes me stressed. And also, the noahs ark segment in Bible Adventures is my go-to "I need to beat a game" game. As far as source material for these games, I grew up with Felix the Cat the movie, you may enjoy it! I'm glad I wasnt the only looney tunes fan as a kid! I'm comforted in your comments how much you love this generation, so many people growing up told me I was crazy for loving this generation of games when there were so many newer, "better", systems, so they said. I'd take nes over n64 any day.
Is The Little Mermaid on Game Boy the same game or something different? If it's different, I think I'd like to give it a try sometime. I still need to try Crazy Castle. Any of them actually! I've only tried Birthday Blowout so far and want to play more. Noah's Ark is a funny time. I've beaten the other two games on Bible Adventures but not that one! The Felix the Cat movie you say? I'll see if I can check that out sometime for a little more context on the game. I just remember catching The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat on YTV back in the day. It was an updated cartoon from the 90s that didn't really stand out to me at all since I barely remember anything about it apart from the theme song. Looney Tunes was life back when I was young. The Bugs Bunny & Tweety show was awesome! I also have a bunch of the older episodes and specials on tape. I've been digitizing those and it's been really fun to go back and watch some of those again. You're in good company here with me, haha... I love the NES (and Master System/Game Boy) a lot, as well as the stuff that came right after. The 3D generations feel so much more hit and miss to me. Thanks for your thoughtful comment and for stopping in!
@hungrygoriya they are essentially the same. Its more about graphical and size downgrades. I think since you like birthday blowout, you'll like crazy castle. I hope you find out! How fun, we are opposite! I've never gotten far in baby moses, and only made it to the level before Goliath in D&G. My mom beat noahs ark despite "not liking video games", she was the first person I ever saw beat a game! I believe the movie was its own thing between series! I had a local abc affiliate (in usa), so we totally had The Bugs Bunny & Tweety show! Ive seen a few of the specials, and I hope to see all of them someday. Thanks for being kind, inviting, fun, and so creative in your channel. Hg!
Hearing the music from Shadow of the Ninja took me all the way back. Me and my best friend from elementary school used to have an awesome time playing the two player co-op on that game. Those were some awesome weekends. He's passed on now, and I still have the cartridge we used to play. I understand that it catches an above average price on ebay, but for me it's a priceless keepsake.
As a kid at a sleepover, my friends and I beat Power Blade. We had rented it for the weekend and I remember beating the final level and boss myself. Great game.
your transitions are so sick, also I'm a bit more partial to the Game Boy version of Little Mermaid, mostly for that opening cutscene song, same game otherwise and a solid one to highlight
Thanks so much about the transitions. We spent a long time filming those. I really need to find a copy of the Game Boy Little Mermaid and give it a try. You've just reminded me that that version exists!
You’re better at games than me, that level 3 boss in Shadow of the Ninja destroys me every time! Feels like one of the hardest NES games to me, but that’s such an individual experience. Duck Tales was one of the first games I ever completed. Once you learn how to pogo jump the only hard thing is figuring out how to find the last boss revisiting Transylvania.
Shadow of the Ninja was definitely one of the harder games on this list for me, but I finished it pretty quickly all said. Something just clicked for me with the bosses after a few tries, except that yellow guy that kept spawning on top of me. Duck Tales is still one I need to try to finish someday. It seems fun enough, but the pogo jump was messing with me.
Good luck if you do try it out again. It might seem tough at first, but the chip exchange for life is a godsend. It gives you that extra little bit of time to observe that really made a difference for me.
I would add Star Tropics to this list. I was introduced to it by my best friend, and we both found it an excellent adventure we could beat in no time as kids.
24:45 I can confirm I was one of those kids. I never found out about the timer for the power ups until fairly recently actually while watching someone play this on Twitch. At first I thought it was a weird glitch.
Easy NES games are gifts. These were the games that actually ended up making one happy as a kid because you could rent it for the weekend and be done with it before returning it. Darkwing Duck is my fondest memory of an easy NES game.
Cool idea for this video, really enjoyed it a lot! I've played all the games here except for Toki, and I agree with you. The things a lot of these games do are far more forgiving and lenient than many others out there. There's less RNG and more chances to improve with each attempt, even on the ones with limited continues like Shadow of the Ninja. It's amazing how Power Blade worked out as it did as a fun game here, but the sequel to me was absolutely miserable. The difficulty was increased tremendously with nonstop cheap deaths, very few checkpoints, very long levels and even a boss rush at the end with not a single checkpoint in it! Maybe they decided to make it that hard for being anti rental or something, haha. Looking forward to the next video, I always appreciate watching these!
Yeah! You nailed it! The predictability in a lot of these helps a lot for sure. I remember your struggles with Power Blade 2 and good lord... I don't think I would ever want to play it even if I could afford a copy for myself. Yikes! Thanks for suffering so we all didn't have to. And thanks so much for your enthusiasm about the channel. It makes doing these videos worth it!
Kabuki: Quantum Fighter is one of my favorite NES games and one of my favorite games period. Didn’t find it until I was an adult, but I’ve loved it for years now
I believe the first non-Point&Click Adventure game I beat as a child was Monster in My Pocket - specifically a bootlegged version that starred Batman and the Flash replacing Dracula and the Monster, but of course offered no explanation as to why the superheroes were tiny and how they could allow monsters to take over the town "While they were watching TV". Even so, I adored the game as a Primary school kid and beat it dozens of times, sometimes with friends. On a console where even seeing past the second level of most games seemed an impossible dream, having a game I could fall back on (and feel confident about beating) did wonders for my confidence to keep trying with harder action games. As rewarding as clocking a really hard game can be, I feel games like this were and are essential to any one's journey into the hobby, as diving into the deep end with something like Ninja Gaiden the first time one picks up a controller is unlikely to inspire one to want to keep trying for long.
Someone else mentioned this very bootleg version of Monster in My Pocket. How fascinating! I love a nice, easy game once in a while but I also enjoy a challenge. The Little Mermaid was the only game I remember finishing when I was really young. I agree about your statement on confidence and entry into the hobby. You have to start somewhere, and starting out with really hard games might not be the best way to build up that confidence or skill for that matter.
I always love seeing a new HG vid pop up! Getting to see you play games I loved or games I missed is always a thrill. I'm still in shock you scored a copy of Little Samson, good on you and congratulations!!! I wonder tho, your vids seem focused on NES, but do you ever play Master System or any of the 16 bit consoles? Plenty of awesome fun and memories on those as well 💖.
I'm very grateful for my copy of Little Samson. A friend sent it to me and I was so happy to finally be able to play it. I've played a ton of Master System stuff and actually have lots of reviews from that console buried deep in the channel. I've been doing lots of NES stuff lately but I do love games from the 8- and 16-bit generations and play lots of those on stream as well. I wanted to push on with this video since I finished a whole bunch of these titles this past summer and was feeling inspired to talk about them.
Huge part of my childhood right there, fondly remember Shadow of the Ninja, or "Kage" as my version was named, same game tho. Was even more surprised when I found out it was remade semi-recently.
Yeah, I heard about the remake! What gets chosen for a remake is always so interesting to me. I didn't realize there was a market for Shadow of the Ninja in particular, but people got really excited about it.
I remember playing probably half of these as a kid, and I had a great time with the ones I did. My older sister and I played through Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout together a couple of times on different weekends, for example, and I still remember us having fun breaking apart the Sphinxes in the desert level because of how you could break individual blocks and yet the remaining ones would stay animated. So you could have a floating tail, for example. I guess we were making our own fun. But I also remember the night I got The Little Mermaid, I beat it in about two and a half hours, and my dad was so angry about it. He'd bought it at full price and now I was "done" with it. I had to tell him that I wanted to play through it again at least a couple more times just so I could see everything, because there were rocks I hadn't been able to move because I had lost my powerups, but he wasn't convinced. I'm not sure he ever got over it, but I really do remember that game, and getting good enough to clear it without losing my powerups, fondly. I definitely didn't own Little Samson as a kid, though, haha. I think it's funny that it went from this extremely obscure game nobody knew about to this super-rare and valuable collector's piece that everybody wished they had to just being another game that, if you want to play NES games, you can figure out how to get it and can play it just fine. Anyway, thanks as always for the trip down memory lane, and for reminding me of some holes in my knowledge of the NES library that I should really fill in one of these days.
It's funny you mention the Sphinxes because I kept hoping there would be something hidden behind them. I'm sorry that your dad got so upset about The Little Mermaid. I'm pretty sure I got my copy when it was brand new as well, but I can't quite remember how old I was. I think I was very young, like maybe 5 or 6? It probably took me a while to beat it. The first boss and the sunken ship boss took me a long time to finish back then. Little Samson's definitely worth playing any way you can, as one of my favourite UA-cam pals SNESDrunk would say. I'm really thankful to have a copy of the game as part of my collection now. Someone I know gave it to me since they knew I'd treasure it and keep it rather than reselling it. I really enjoy having it on the shelf. You're very welcome for the memory trip, and I hope you do get around to trying out some of these that you haven't had the opportunity to yet. Good luck!
It's not a bad game at all, just very short! I was also hoping for the two characters to be a bit different from each other. Maybe the co-op mode might be fun to try sometime!
@@hungrygoriya Wasnt many games back then that would let you do a simultaneous co-op. So was a treat to find one that did. Should def try it with a friend....except the running down the railing bit... hard to coordinate XD
The Disney Afternoon was Saturday Morning Cartoons in the UK and available on terrestrial TV as opposed to Cable/ Satellite TV. Yes very fondly remembered ❤️
Wow, that Bugs Bunny game unlocked a core memory. I remember renting it when I was 8 or 9 and blasting through it over the weekend. I forgot how ridiculously choppy it was.😂
It sounds like it was fun if you played it for the whole rental period! I had fun with it too! The choppiness made me feel like it was meant for a different system altogether.
@ playing it for the whole time was more of a necessity than anything. 1 rental every couple of weeks and no IPhone or UA-cam. The late 80’s and early 90’s were different lol.
5:00 Funny you should say this - the traffic lights in Japan are often described as blue! Though the tint is (imo) definitely on the green side of blue-green.

The animators for Little Samson really liked doing turnaround animations xD. All the characters do it and even the skull enemies.
They're all very twirly and I think it's very charming.
Ufouria: The Saga is another great one! It also has four characters to control, each with different abilities, and it's a pretty chill playthrough.

Right on! I hope Wonder Boy III has been treating you well so far. Glad you found me!
@ it’s a little confusing I might play remake instead but I do like it so far and I don’t hate old games you’ve got me to like the master system a lot
@Zakk_Attack25 The remake is lovely, and you can still play with the old graphics if you want to as well.
@ oh cool! Definitely gonna get the remake then I’m so excited thanks for introducing me to this game I’m also trying astriex for master system cuse of u
Nice job on the transitions between games; was closely watching the last half+ and the cartridges matched up perfectly.
Thanks! I tried my best to get everything to line up perfectly.
It's always a pleasure when you upload a new episode!
Awww thank you! And thank you very much for the tip too. Much appreciated!
Bugs bunny birthday blowout was the first NES game I ever beat and I was only 34 years old lol
Nice! Congratulations! I got crushed by so many NES games growing up and didn't beat a lot of things until I was an adult.
@@hungrygoriya thank you
For Rescue Rangers, here's a little trick I learned when this game first came out: Start the game as two-player co-op and kill off the other player (you can pick him up and throw him into enemies). You'll only need half the flowers necessary for the floating star to appear.
Oh what really? I had no idea that this was something you could do! That's so smart!
Ingenious!!!!! 😮 Wow!!
It also does a super damage: 2 hits to final boss (robot). Two. Hits.
Great video. Also, shout out for the overworld theme for Arkista's Ring. Many fond memories of that one as a kid.
Thank you! I've only gotten through one loop of Arkista's Ring so far but I liked it a lot.
@@hungrygoriya Sorry. I do love that overworld theme, but what I REALLY meant was the theme for the title screen. So must nostalgia for that one.
These videos are really good. You're writing is hilarious and precise. It's magazine quality (that's a good thing). Nicely done!
That's awfully kind of you to say. Thank you so much!
You taught me a couple of tips that I didn't know about Little Sampson and Quantum Fighter, so thank you for that. 😁 I'm glad to see a new video from you, this was a lot of fun.
Right on! Glad to help somehow, and thanks so much for taking the time to watch. I appreciate it!
Well done, once again! A lot of these I have not had a chance to try yet, but good to know they likely won't be a big issue when I do!
You'll crush them! And thanks so much for checking this out!
For games that aren't too hard, I'd add Rescue: The Embassy Mission. It's really short, not too hard once you figure out what to do, but I had so much fun with that. I probably never would have played it if I didn't get a batch of NES games from a video store going out of business in the 90s.
That's a super cool game, too with varied and unique gameplay. I love sniping silhouettes through the windows, and hiding from the spotlight.
I'll have to give The Embassy Mission a try sometime. I have it but I've never played it! Thanks for the suggestion.
I just found your channel, and was do happy that you're still uploading when I saw this!
I was curious about whether or not there would be friendly fire, and I guess I got my answer... haha
Great video. I really liked the transitions and enjoyed your use of edge lighting. 👍
I loved it so much as a kid, and still do. It really felt like an extension of the movie in many ways.
This was the perfect video to watch during a plane flight. Thanks for putting it all together!
I hope you're home safe now. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Fantastic video. I have considered playing some of these titles, but was unsure if I would/could finish them. You have instilled some confidence and a second look!
Good luck! You might not get through on your first attempt, but many of them are doable with a couple of hours of practice.
11:56 the powerwalk joke made me laugh out loud, it was dilivered so subtle tho!
Haha thanks!
Power blade was one of my favorite games as a kid, great to see it getting some love.
It was really fun to play! I wish it was longer.
It's been a while. What a pleasant surprise!
Yeah! This one took me a while to put together. The end of 2024 was also pretty busy for me, but I'm hoping I can get back to a more frequent release schedule now. Thanks for your patience!
Great video, as always! I need to bust out the Bubs pin again sometime! Gotta represent the great channels! :D
- Andrew
Awww I'm glad you want to flaunt the Bubs!
This channel/these videos are literally pure unadulterated bliss ❤
Thanks for checking this out! I appreciate it!
5:02 Japan has blue traffic lights! Or rather, when traffic lights where introduced in Japan they still used the same word for green and blue (aoi), so go signals could be in any shade between green and blue. Today aoi mostly means blue and midori is used for green, when specificity is needed.
Is that so? I feel like blue and green are so similar and would be hard to tell apart. Always glad to learn something new!
@@hungrygoriya They're adjacent on the spectrum, so they are similar.
Interesting! I haven't played Astyanax yet but I've always wanted to.
Hey Goriya, that is quite funny, I been replaying a ton NES games for my gaming memories and I played only one, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, the rest is all games that I know by name, but never played myself, so many still to discover! thanks for that!
Looks like you have some fun ones to try then! Glad I could share these titles with you.
Yo, I'm so glad you talked about Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout. I have always enjoyed this game and it's music. It is short game but that's why I like it. Was a fun quick play with familiar characters. To be fair it was one I played as a kid.
The music's been stuck in my head since I finished editing this. It's whimsical and catchy!
I love that these are some "off the beaten path" NES games...well, maybe not Rescue Rangers, but that's okay since the name of the game here is approachable NES games. Great video as usual!
I tried not to just roll out the usual culprits. Thanks so much for stopping in and watching this!
I love so much of what Capcom put out on the NES.
yeah I wouldn't say it was easy but it's nowhere near as hard as a lot of the games she's played
For me, Ducktales was the first game I ever beat.
@@StewNWTMickey’s Magical Quest 2 is great, my 4 year old and I play it regularly co-op, it’s her first ever platformer
Shout out to Little Nemo! Not easy by a long shot, but I think it’s doable with a little bit of practice. Great video!
It's a great game! I talked about it in another list video about 9 NES favourites.
Always happy to see a new drop!
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed the video.
@@hungrygoriya I'm here for every one of them!
Oh hey! I was watching a bunch of your other videos last night, and thinking, "It's been a couple of months since a video was uploaded. She's probably been busy with the holidays and stuff." And then lo and behold: a new video! ✨📼✨
Surprise! Yeah, this one took me a bit to get together and I had a pretty busy holiday on top of that. Thanks for your patience!
I love how Little Samson and his pals spin around!
They're super twirly!
You are a madman for putting shadow of the ninja on this list.
It didn't take me too long to finish my first time through. It's the hardest game on this list for sure.
Great video! You kicked it off with a banger. Samson is fun! Felix looks pretty good, never played it.
Little Samson was so good, but way too short. I was so sad it was over so quickly! Felix the Cat is also fun, but it doesn't feel as polished as other platformers. The panning up and down definitely makes some parts feel less fair than others.
@hungrygoriya yeah I agree on Samson being wayyyy to short. A shame really. I'll have to try out the games i haven't played yet.
Kirby's Adventure is definitely a game that belongs on a list like this. I wasn't good at games as a kid, but Kirby's Adventure was easy enough to get to the end. The final bosses were a little tricky, but easy to learn how to beat them.
I couldn't believe how tough the final bosses were in Kirby's Adventure. I got stuck there for a long time when I played.
@@hungrygoriya My best friend and I spent an entire afternoon together trying to beat the final boss. When we (mostly my friend) beat it, I was really excited as it was the first time beating a NES game. That is my favorite video game memory.
This video is the first I've seen of yours, and it was far better than I expected. Subbed and now I'm off to look at your catalogue.
Glad you liked the video. Enjoy the back catalogue!
Gosh, your vids are so....cozy.
That's very kind! Thank you!
@hungrygoriya You're welcome.
excellent picks, hungry!
Oh thank you! There's so many great games on the NES. I feel spoiled to have so many great experiences with it.
This was a great video really enjoyed this one
Thank you very much!
You got it. Looking forward to the next upload! Have a great rest of your day
Don't know if it's said enough, but loved your set, lighting and production!
I wonder what it is about Little Samson that trips you up so much. You can beat some pretty tough games!
Oh wow! So glad to hear you again! Women gamers arent too rare, but ones with great format, a lot of skills and knowledge, and a really pleasant voice to listen to, are a rare combination.
I always look forward to your next video, and im glad one is here for me today
Looking forward to another great video! 😀
I hope you liked it!
i rarely have the option to watch your twitch streams live but i did watch when you played power blade and was impressed how easy you made it look.
Glad to see the upload!
Me too! This one was a big undertaking, but I'm really happy with how it all came out. I appreciate your patience!
Little Samson is SUCH a gem! It could easily be a game that came out this year! When I first saw it, I thought for sure it was released recently because of how advanced it was!
It's such a beautiful game and so much fun to play. I just wish it was a little bit longer.
I was thinking going into this video, “I hope Chip and Dale is on here!” And it was! It was a game I played a lot as a kid and I still find the tunes catchy today.
Chip and Dale was awesome! I also really like the music, especially the song in the last stage.
Oh, hey. You're back. Welcome back, Goriya, and Happy New Year!
Your assessment of these titles is… interesting. _Power Blade_ and _Monster In My Pocket_ aren't typically "easy" games, but everyone's experience is different, so…
As an aside, if you think _Power Blade_ was _too_ easy and want more of a challenge, you should try the original Famicom version, _"Power Blazer."_ It feels like the prototype of what we go and, despite the fact levels are more straightforward, it's far less forgiving.
I never got to read much Nintendo Power back in the day, but I really enjoy looking through them these days.
This is perfect because I love relaxing playing the NES library of games but then again I keep on wanting to throw my controller at the screen
Mileage may vary depending on what you choose from this list, but all of these are beatable in an afternoon with a little patience.
Great video and creative topic!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for sharing your memory about your friend. I'm sorry for your loss, but I think it's very sweet that you've kept the cartridge all these years.
As a kid at a sleepover, my friends and I beat Power Blade. We had rented it for the weekend and I remember beating the final level and boss myself. Great game.
It was really fun. I've been told the Famicom version's a bit tougher if you ever want to revisit it with more challenge.
your transitions are so sick, also I'm a bit more partial to the Game Boy version of Little Mermaid, mostly for that opening cutscene song, same game otherwise and a solid one to highlight
Thanks so much about the transitions. We spent a long time filming those. I really need to find a copy of the Game Boy Little Mermaid and give it a try. You've just reminded me that that version exists!
Little Mermaid was the first game i ever finished on my own
I'm pretty sure it was mine too!
Fun list, I am particularly fond of Quantum Kabuki Fighter and the Power Blades. They used to be great for an afternoon's gaming session!
For sure! They're nice and short and relatively easy to get through once you've got them figured out.
Thank you for the video! I'll have to go back and try Kabuki Quantum Fighter. I liked it, but never beat it when I rented it back in the day.
You two must've been gaming wizards! I struggled so much with StarTropics!
24:45 I can confirm I was one of those kids. I never found out about the timer for the power ups until fairly recently actually while watching someone play this on Twitch. At first I thought it was a weird glitch.
I was one of those adults! I didn't learn about the timer until I was reading through the manual again for this video.
Jumped right on as soon as I saw the upload!
Thanks so much for watching! It's been a bit but I had a busy year end and finally got this one finished.
@hungrygoriya this was a perfect entry to. Sometimes I look for a breezier game to play on my NES....they sure have enough that aren't.
@@benm.724 There's lots out there if you look hard enough! I'll see if I ever find enough to make a part 2.
If you do I'll be there!
Great video hungry :D
Thanks so much for watching! It's nice to see you here!
Yay, Hungry Goriya dropped a new video!!
Finally, right? Thanks for your patience!
Easy NES games are gifts. These were the games that actually ended up making one happy as a kid because you could rent it for the weekend and be done with it before returning it. Darkwing Duck is my fondest memory of an easy NES game.
Darkwing Duck's a great one! I liked it a lot as well.
Didn’t find it until I was an adult, but I’ve loved it for years now
My dearest yt channel
Awwww! Thank you!
38m of one of my fav yt voices. Now THIS is asmr 😊
Little mermaid was my jam back in the day! Such a great game!
I love it so much!
Ahhh, no wonder you had to work a while on this one. 10 different games!
It took me a long, long time. Thanks for popping in to check it out!
@@hungrygoriya Just finished the video. Was a very fun watch! Well thought out and informative, as always.
Little Samson’s designers were waaaaay too in love with their rotating sprites. It drives me nuts.
I think it's charming, but to each their own!
@ it’s a me thing lol folks love that game for good reason and those graphics are impressive. I’m just a big boob.
Good luck!
Chip and Dale, the Little Mermaid, and Monster in my Pocket were some of the first games I ever beat.
They're all pretty quick ones!
Am personally nostalgic for Monster in my Pocket. Used to rent it for the weekend and play co-op with my cousin. Loved the monster theme as well
It's not a bad game at all, just very short!
My comfort food videos...
Thank you, my dear.
Stay warm :)
Thanks very much!
The Disney Afternoon was Saturday Morning Cartoons in the UK and available on terrestrial TV as opposed to Cable/ Satellite TV.
Yes very fondly remembered ❤️
I wish I'd gotten to experience it in Canada! Maybe I just missed it somehow.
That's so interesting! Thanks for passing that tidbit along to me.
They look blue to me but I have red-green color deficiency.
