My guess why they painted them, because actual purple plastics are impossible to find. Its like the only color that isnt sold normally along with all the other colors.
@@zachthericer3379 I think it’s easy just post share and get the followers to subscriber and let that UA-cam money build all this with there money and out support.. kinda like a sponsor 😉
Funny, we are talking about how similar you are to us with the valve adjustment issues. About 90% of the 4 strokes that come in have valve clearance issues. You do a great job, informal training OJT is a good thing for all of us, you included. Another great video. Keep killing it, Joe. Great job!
Never assume the shim sizes from a selection box are marked up correctly. Allways measure the shims before fitting. And check shim clearance with cams fully torqued down. Love your videos and keep up the hard work....
All that dirt and filth drives me nuts, it's all apart might as well clean it to new condition as much as possible. Cheap eBay steam cleaner works wonders.
quick tip for anyone getting paint off plastics. after using the paint remover, you can use a pressure washer to spray off the paint instead of using a scrape!! 👍👍❤❤
If you set up a big tarp outside as a backsplash then power wash the bubbling paint off plastics it might take 20 min instead of hours with scraper... nice commitment to the project tho ...aint nothing you cant fix these days
I think you got a good buy... After reshimming I always re-time and then rotate the engine a few times just to get everything seating before re-measure. Also torque the cam tower before measuring, it will change the adjustment just slightly. Otherwise great vid man, just wanted to pass some advice on for your future jobs.
i have one good lifehack for u :), always put silicone spray on the plastics when ur done cleaning them, it will make them look new and shine like crazy
Some things you can go check on it. It’s got a aftermarket exhaust so you gotta re-jet it check the jets if they are stock. But an air filter on maybe it’s getting too much air. And the crackling noise you heard from the exhaust is just the metal cooling of because it’s hot. But nice quad always loved it.
I would turn idle up a bit. If it seems to be hanging up after you rev it (idles stay high for a little before dropping) your pilot circuit is too lean, richen it up by adjusting pilot screw. It did seem lean as I seen the header starting to get red when you were first Reving it. Hope this helps!
Hey Joe if you let the paint stripper sit like that wrapping in in Saran Wrap after laying it on heavy puts in work! Also if you can put them in a warm area but know it stinks. Good work bro
Bad ass vids man! My passion is fixing quads also! Awesome how u took the time to clean everything up and make it shine! Keep making bad ass vids! Just send it
In one of the clips the pipe looks a little red, might need to check jets or accelerator pump if it has one, might be too lean. Also find out what the rattle is,it makes it sound bad
@@mikeschlup5279 id say just rejet the pilot and leave the fuel screw at the factory position. or maybe move the needle up 1 and leave the jetting if possible
Cleanliness helps ten fold when working on things, take your stuff out and pressure wash it or garden hose and brush it before you tear it apart, I’m pretty sure any little dust and grime is way larger than the .0020-.0025 bearing clearances in those motors considering a hair is .06... just my two cents tho, still like the vids and content
Take some polish and a buffer and buff those plastics out and it will look brand new and also try out some maxima sc1, I spray it on my whole quad it makes it look brand new
If you give the coolant temp wire a ground the fan should come on with motor running For a fast check. Then you can ome out the temp sensor to check it to see if its good or bad.
you have inspired me into doing dirtbike and quad rebuilds as well, i have a cheap gio pitbike and a 09 yz85. i was into cars and dirtbikes before and i know alot about them but never acted on my hobbie\skill now i am hoping to finish grade 12 go back to school for a small engine mechanic and open a dirtbike dealer/repare shop.love your vids keep going with them.
Next time try klean strip quick strip I like it better than the citri strip. I think it works faster and less messy. It comes in an aerosol can usually around $10 a can. Let me know what u think!
Not even gonna lie I’m really starting to like your videos you do what I wanna do every day and this will be the closest thing to it. I work on toys all the time i love picking up tips and pointers to help me in my work spot.
If this engine uses the same valves as the CRF, you will probably need to replace the inlet valves. The oem titanium valves are sensitive for wear. If the clearance is very tight, the valves are probably worn out.
Another entertaining video. And good luck on your sales on the tecate and the cr250 👍💯. I noticed them posted up for sale and figured it must be your quad and dirt bike, since those tecate are rare and rarely seen.
Keeps shutting off without the fuel tank on it and you said you can’t figure out why, it’s pretty crazy what happens to things when they run out of fuel Joseph
Hey joe- ur gettn sooo much better at wrenchin! Good job! Also- someone in comments said the CR250 n Tecate are 4 sale???? Where r they posted???😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Sounds like a loose time chain, maybe chain tensioner is just worn, i woukd definitely replace with a manual one might help with starting this taking out that little slack chain has
What was he taking the tarp off with a sledge hammer to break the front break lever it had to be flipped to break it off. Ut uea nice quad good deal for the work needed nice save u did on the honda foo50
Being a mechanic you should think about wearing a silicone ring so it doesn't short out on anything. I don't wear mine while working anymore since my buddy lost his finger because of it!!

Please leave the hitch on it just because
How did you get the exhaust header so clean?? I’m trying to get my 400’s to look better

We should do a fund raiser or something so he can get started on a small shop

I see a lot of guys who hook up a full aftermarket exhaust but don’t re jet for it. May be worth pulling the bowl to see if it’s got stock jets.
Good thinking!
Or maybe it could just be that he doesnt have the air filter in there making it run lean because it's getting too much air

You beat me too it. I was going to suggest that too. I know it happens because it happened to me!!!
I was going to say this too. The clearances should only be checked when the cams are fully torqued down.

I cringe at the thought of a chunk of dirt falling into the motor 😬
I'm pretty sure at 3:30 you can see dirt in the engine
I would have cleaned the cables. When he moved them, dirt was falling into the engine.
At least zip tie the cables out of the way! Was driving me crazy lol
Steam cleaner on grease?
This channel never ceases to surprise me.
I thought this would be ok at best. You will double your money on this one including labor. This is the best one you have shown in quite a while.

Turned out really nice love doing before and after pics myself love just getting paint off plastics and seeing the difference
Yeah it's pretty satisfying!
This thing turned out so sharp man. Nice work!!
Love the sound of that pipe and also no smoke . You can run a 130 jet on those quads . I think it comes stock 118 .
In one of the clips the pipe looks a little red, might need to check jets or accelerator pump if it has one, might be too lean. Also find out what the rattle is,it makes it sound bad
The rattle is the ball/hitch that is on the back bumper/ subframe
Yeah it was definitely lean, pipe was starting to glow
Red glowing pipe on a 450 that’s sitting still and running for a period of time is 100% normal
@@joe964 but it's clearly running lean, my 2015 rmz 450 can idle for that long and it won't glow. You can hear it popping and running like shit
And that cover sand it down to aluminum and shine it up and won’t have to worry about paint rubbing off
It lokks like he hydro dipped the plastic, the previous owner. LOL
19:00 the pipe is red hot lol, think it might be a tad lean 😂
Unscrew fuel screw 1/ 2 a turn...one size bigger pilot...then main...?

Man you got it ! Maybe repack silencer for maximum flow
Powder coat the cover! Or cera cost. Or whatever lundmx or cameron niemela would do. As you saw with the fenders paint usually isn’t the way to go
Dude awesome build. Never seen such a good deal as yours. I want one of these really bad.
16:47 shuts off idk why adds gas tank back on fires back up 😂😂😂 why I love this Channel
Make sure too put an air filter in there lol

I can never find these deals, it blows me away that you find these machines so cheap..
Awesome! It started! I think you may need to lube up that throttle cable ...
Be sure to check the accelerator pump Diaphragm in the carb sounds like it has a bit of a bog when you throttle up it may need replaced or set or both
Dude get boots. I always put on my riding boots. Even if I'm just riding my goped still wear protective gear.
Dont push the throttle far at all when starting barley push on it and it will fire up easier
You should clean the bike before you dissemble it
When he was wrenching those cam bolts down, did anyone else think that sounded like Donald Duck hollering at his nephews Lol.
You probably already know but dont forget the air filter basket if you dont have that either. Not just the air filter.
Great video!
A good way to get deep scratches off use a blade and scrape the high spots
You should also maybe watch aaron coltons cr500 restoration video he gives good tips how to get the plastics looking fresh again
I have watched lots of your videos and I think we get you a belt for Christmas
Keep up the work and I'm first again 👌😂
You checked the valve clearance than torqued the cam assembly..my God you never learn.
That’s what I’m sayin 🤷♂️
He checked them after he torqued the cam assembly as well. Pay attention.

Nice vids been watching for a while
19:00 is there any reason the pipe is glowing red hot when your hardly revving it ahahahah 🤣🤣
I think it’s because it’s satying in one spot for a while and it’s a high compression motor
Man you need to invest in a 1/4 drive torque wrench for those sell bolts
Have you seen his handle bar breaker bar ? Doubtful on the upgrade
Great video still looking forward to see a first ride on the cr250
Adjust the idle once it’s off choke it’ll idle high when the choke is on! All Honda’s do it!
I am really enjoying your content will be starting to put some content on my channel in the next few months, might have to do some old quad revivals.
Usually it has to have an air filter to run without the choke on because the choke primes it
