Nice work on this boss, for ableton users the autopan works as a tremolo if you set the phase to 0. Edit: also convolution reverb works as a great way to change the timbre of sounds like these similar to what you did with the comb filter.
Tape machine simulator with some wow and flutter gives it some human feel and prevents it from sounding like it’s the exact same sample being played over
Awesome content man. Cheers. Find myself going from one video straight to the next, because you break each subject down so well and the added bonus that you use Cubase too.
Dude this is such a tool! Thanks for the resource! I've been equalizing live recorded shaker combinations which gets me pretty close but it's always imperfect. Excited to close the gap.
Amazing tutorial, super useful and easy to understand. I just have one recommendation, it was kind of annoying to look at the red background while it was pulsing during the Danger section, maybe you could just keep it as a red background (no pulsing) after the first few seconds? Everything else was great, thanks!
Thanks! I should have said in the video that the reason for the comb filter is to slightly emulate the sound of recording a real sound source in a real room, where subtle comb filtering is totally normal. Sometimes I don't bother with the comb filter, but it almost always enhances the character of the sound. :)
Great stuff, man! Could you also consider making some introduction videos with basic techniques for newbies like me who doesn't know jack shit about music production, but who would like to have a bit of an easier jumpstart into it? Or make a video about pros and cons of different software to get a general overview on it? I would be incredibly greateful) But anyways, keep up the good work)
Could you go into detail as to why I should never high pass the shaker? I was under the impression that letting the low frequencies of the noise go through would interfere with the kick and the bass
It literally doesn't matter. I don't know why he made such a big deal about not cutting all the lows. Sure, it may cause more change in the phase of the sound but if it sounds good, it is good. I suspect he had been agressively cutting lows for years, then heard somewhere that you don't always have to, and now feels like some kind of genius for not cutting his lows. TBH this shaker sounds a bit bland and boring anyway.
@@WillyJuniordon't be fucking stupid :D :D :D I test everything meticulously, I didn't aggressively cut for years. I recognise that there are plenty of people getting good sounds who use low cuts. You can say the shaker sounds a bit bland and boring, but the point of the technique is to fit the sound into a specific context. You can make it sound however you want.
It won't have a negative impact on the kick and bass if your kick and bass are strong and your shaker isn't mixed 20dB+ above the level of the kick and bass :D
@pointPi hello guy from 4 years ago, im just starting to really wrap my head around this one, because its pretty counter intuitive, but the infinite slope of the low cut filter causes both steep 0 crosses of the wave phase, as well as tends to add some DC offset, thereby decreasing headroom and causing a sound that sounds quiet to actually take up more room in the mix. It may not sound obvious while making a track, but it can cause problems with gain staging and clarity during the mixing phase. Just one of those things thats much easier to avoid early on rather than try to fix later. actually one one of the Noisia guys just realesed a good video on this within the past couple days to advertise their new plugin, look out for that one.
Create a new audio track, set the Output to NONE, set the Input to Master Out..... I've heard rumours they're adding features to make this much easier in a future update
I think I'm an idiot. I have a noise generator but cannot for the life of me figure out how to actually get it to record. It's making the noise like crazy but won't record to the track. I use Logic Pro X.
Thanks for the nice tip my friend! A epilepsy warning or something for the clip at 3:23 wouldn't be bad also :)
This is exactly the kind of content i was hoping to see on your channel.
Thank you so much.. and expect new russian subscribers ;))
Here we come :)
+1))
Thank you, I've noticed more Russian subs over the past couple of days! :D
More of us)))

excellent tips!
Damn that is a hell of a good technique, will definitely apply it, it's so satisfying to make your own samples.
......and it's easier, and it sounds better!
Tape machine simulator with some wow and flutter gives it some human feel and prevents it from sounding like it’s the exact same sample being played over
Or sample a longer loop rather than taking a sample of one hit. That's the beauty of this method, it's flexible.
A mate years ago made good shakers literally by shaking a box of matches! Low tech approach 😄👍
Nothing wrong with low tech options when they work, but when you want to get reallllly specific about how it sounds and fits int he mix....
Phenomenal trick. Subbed. Thank you!
this is insane lol never would’ve thought of this, thank you so much
More to come, watch this space......
Maaaan !!!, this was mind blowing . Intelligent artillery let loose my freind. Now that is an approach i have never ! seen before.
Your videos are excellent, please keep it up.
Great idea! Thanks for this!
Completely wonderful. Thank you for sharing

LOL I did wonder about that! Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic video. Would have never thought to do this. Sounds great, going to give it a try now! Thanks a lot
very useful idea, love the comb filter

Great video dude! I really like how at the end of the video you look like you are ready to be launched into space! lol
Jumpscared the hell out of me there
This channel is top quality mate, big ups! also your breakbeat eq tutorial from years ago ruined my life lol
Ruined your life, how so?
@@OwenTheGeek I mean that in the best possible way - it got me fully hooked on working with breakbeats and choppage etc!
@@exofurian so... by... "ruined"... you really mean..... "made amazing!"
Dude thanks for the awesome tip!! Not all heroes wear capes
So glad I found your channel dude! Great work and thank you! 👍😁
Thanks!
awsome tip :) another great tutorial !!
Instant inspiration
Best tutorial ive seen in a long time :)
High praise! Hopefully I can outdo myself...
Mind Blown.
Good shakers
🙏
Loved this
damn, this is an excellent tutorial. thank you!
WOWZ! Great tutorial! You just helped me out. Big Time!

I hear your request, but my area is more intermediate to advanced
We need some more tutorials bro

I would like to know his reasons too
