The thing I love about your videos Owen, is these are absolute trade secrets. The thousands and thousands of hours I've spent recreating these sounds with other methods, that sound great in their own right. But never accurate and nostalgic like this, simply because the process isn't exact. Often over complex. Also, your video on HP filters is very telling. Like someone else put, alot of my 'lazy mixes' sound better in hindsight and it's because I 'safely' low cut every thing in the mix that wasn't sub bass or a kick. Looking through my historic mixes of old projects right back over 10+ years, the 'mastered' versions always sound thinner and the transients are distorted. Managing warmth through 'fear' lead to some seriously bright and unfulling spectra. Very grateful, very happy to have discovered you.
Thank you so much for this very thoughtful comment. I'm glad you've found value in the channel. I had to take an unplanned break, but there's plenty more to come.
I’ve literally got so much Love for you Owen. Next time I’m in town, I’m buying the pizza. Great vid pal. Really helpful for something I’m working on 😘
Thank you, but I have to confess... I didn't really "nail" anything. I didn't start with the end in mind and work towards it. I started by exploring synths. My question was "What sounds can I get out of these oscillator features?". Then all I did is take note when I heard something I recognised/liked... YOU also took note when you heard something you recognised/liked (during my video), so you have the same skill as I used. 🙌 See what I mean?
I don't suppose you could explain how to make the bass from 'Cause n effect' from Concept 2? Similar to a lot of tunes at the time from Ram especially but i just can't get it. It's so warm!! Cheers

It's referred to as a "tramen" because Dj Trace used it in a number of tunes in the mid-late 90's. The tune widely believed to be the first "techstep" tune would be the DJ Trace's Mutant Jazz remix which I believe was the tramens first apperence. I imagine Mutant Jazz was the influence for this tutorial. Other tunes Trace used it in was Sonar and Sniper. Even though Trace got tagged with it, it was actually Dom and Roland who created it. The break itself is sort of a mutant break of an amen, TIghten up and another break. Most people sample it from the open area of DJ Trace's Sniper.
@@KRISPEdnb The Tramen was made by Dom. It's the Amen(" from some old hardcore track) The Tighten Up, and Model 500 - Flow (Alex Reese Remix.) This is the tune everyone was introduced to the Tramen but Sniper is where everyone sampled it from. Dom was pissed that we've got recognition for the break HE made.
Early 2000s breaks had these basslines I remember. Aquasky/Masterblaster and the link. GReat video, thank you so much
I loved that stuff, especially the tear out tunes
To my ears, the legendary sound of the best era in DnB ! Thanks a lot for the lesson !
Brother! Can't believe I've never heard of cross modulation filters in all my 15 years of music production... thanks
Oscillators 👍🏻
I can listen to reeses like this for hours
Many of us did throughout the late 90s and early 2000s

Another amazing video cheers mate. Would you be interested to do one on the current foghorn bass sound that's so popular atm?
You mean that sort of reverberated brass hit sound on all the EDM tracks from a few years ago, or something else?
