Quick question how do I get a smooth finish on plywoods? Lowe's has the large project plywood and they're sanded do i still sand them using 220 grit to get a smooth finish?

If the grain is raised and your surface is a little fuzzy buy a better hardwood ply or plan on putting a couple extra coats of polyurethane on. Personally, I would buy 3/4 plywood that is cabinet/furniture quality where both sides are finished. Maple and oak should be available at big box store near you. I pay about $55 a sheet. A very light sand with 220 to take out scuffs or knock splinters off cut ends should be about all the sanding required. We blow the project off with compressed air and brush on two coats of polyurethane. After the polyurethane cures, we buff the surface with really fine steel wool. This pulls dust off or knocks rough spots off. Sometimes we have to coat it again. Best wishes on your project!

Yes. Sand to prep for stain. After you stain, coat with polyurethane. Rub with steel wool or very fine sandpaper when cured. Put a final finish coat on if needed.
