What's the Ferrari 488 GTB Got? Private Back-Yard Race Track

- There's not much better than a race track in your back yard, as I discover on visiting Rodin Cars to check out their Fzed race car, and experience some laps at the wheel of a Ferrari 488 GTB!
David Dicker has taken on the Formula 1 style project that is the Fzed and is developing it to become something quite extraordinary. Operating from the base North of Christchurch on New Zealand's South Island, it's also the home to a dual-circuit layout on site.
After a flight up with Christchurch Helicopters, but sadly with the weather against us, it wasn't going to work to take out the Fzed for an experience but it did mean a chance to take a look at Rodin Cars' founder, David Dicker's private collection including a few laps for me at the wheel of the Ferrari 488 GTB. It has to be said, the car has been overlooked slightly from my end is quite a beautifully balanced machine on the track.
Hopefully an opportunity will arise in future to return and see the Fzed in more detail, as well as further projects that Rodin Cars are working on.

Can this finally put an end to all the "Shmee doesn't drive cars how they should be driven" crap? He's using someone else's car, on a track he doesn't know, with standing water in many places, obviously cool temps, yet he's still taking the revs up and sliding the back end out for some fun! Give the man the credit he deserves for being both respectful to others property AND still giving us a good taste of what the car can do with some fun. Exactly! Shmee can actually drive he respects the rules of the roads unlike the majority of other UA-camrs. In my eyes it’s actually a good thing coming from me, someone who used to do crazy things even drifting on public roads until I matured.

Thanks. I just think Tim deserves a lot more respect for not only his driving, but in reality he was an innovator in the Automotive UA-camr scene, plus he has to to be the hardest working guy out there! I love Mr.JWW, STG, SOL, Solomondrin, and most all of the cartubers for their own styles and what they bring to the table, but Shmee gets access to things NOBODY else does.....why do you think that is? He's a respectful, hardworking innovator who obviously has the respect of all the brands and aftermarket companies. He deserves all his success and then some.

Actually YES!, but I was more speaking to the comments that people make too often about how he doesn't drive cars how they should be driven! I'd like to see you borrow someones $400,000-$2,000,000+ car a drive the stink out of it...oh wait that will never happen because if you plan on driving it the way you claim you would, nobody would ever let you drive their super/hypercar! Most of you who criticize Shmee would probably crap your pants if you ever got behind the wheel of one of these cars, and end up chickening out of driving it all together (I've seen it happen more than once). Let's also not forget that the man has taken and passed a racing license test and has tracked most of his cars at some point (which is more than can be said for most people who own cars like his)! So damn right you should give some respect where respect is due!

What a wonderful ride around that private track in the 488GTB you’ve offered up for all of us...thank you for another great film, and for helping me re-live the feeling of piloting a 488. What a machine.

Odd question for you. When someone invites you to drive their car(s), do they ever expect you to pay for fuel?
If I take a car on any kind of drive where there is a substantial dent in the fuel tank, I would always give it back with a full tank.

It's always beeping when he gets past 130 km/h, so yeah it's some sort of speed warning that you can most likely turn off
Having your own private track/area to just mess around in has got to be the best thing ever! No rules, drive as fast as you want, no time limits, etc...

Nah, it's not a 22B.
It's either a version 5 or 6 type R STIi coupe (rare to find one unmolested), 22b's are created using a version 5 (GC8f) STi type R coupe as it's base chassis platform. Prodrive & Sti add the fun bits.

It has a speed notification set at 130km/h for whatever reason
Maybe because if you're caught doing 40 km/h over the speed limit it results in an automatic 28-day license suspension.
Cookie Monster really? And that beeb is from the ferrari self? Or some thing from the government itself? I remember back in the day in dubai when a car past 120kmpu it started beeping as well, but that was just some thing the government installed in your car.
The beep is from the Ferrari. I know of a few cars that enable you to set a speed warning at whatever speed you like. Japanese domestic cars used to have a government-mandated speed warning at 105 km/h (back in the 1980s).
