I have been using the RTH a few times, both for practice and for real. I hadn’t really registered the Pause function. I’ll be trying that out shortly. I’m a very novice drone operator, and not so young (81). Thanks for this video.

It's actually possible to just press cancel on the screen display. But it's also possible to press the same hardware button that sent the drone home in the first place.

Rick, regarding RTH, you answered my question that I have been trying to get answered for awhile....and that is "how close to the mat will it land?"...I have a mini2 and it was not great at all and like you did in the video, I would interrupt RTH before it landed. My Mini3 is in the mail 😉 so am not able to test it yet, but your test was very close...hoping for a firmware update also....thanks for the video!!!

Hi Rick, All generally good tips. But I think there are two things which should have been mentioned. Firstly, I am a great believer in having a take of check list. This list should include (IMO) that you have set an *appropriate* RTH height for this flight. Also that the RTH did get updated should be checked after takeoff. Setting the height per flight is a good idea to ensure you are high enough above obstacles (although the mini 3 manual says it will avoid them if there is something in front when returning - not tested this). Also it can be good to not have it too high especially if it is windy. You don’t want the drone flying off into the sunset as you’ve hit high winds due to a high altitude. The other condition that can catch you out is if you lose. Signal and you are say under a bridge. Again, not good if it then decides to ascend. Would be interesting to test how the Mini 3 does in this situation.
Other comment is that the RTH height only applies if you are more than 50 metres away. If not, drone returns at current altitude. Worth noting. Cheers

Hi, thanks for great video, I haven't even flown yet, hence this was very helpful. I noticed when you decided to cancel the RTH as it wasn't directly over the landing pad, you pushed the screen - I would have expected the pause button which this video is about - was it a screen pause button alternative? Thanks again!

  • @jeremywj

Precision landing is important to have because in some cases you don't have any control, even for the landing. For example, if the controller was to die on you.

Brilliant video Rick thank you. Our mini 3 pro is on order, due mid next month. Never had a drone before. I can’t understand why DJI would introduce a drone on the market with so many faults to begin with like the poor range/signal. Then having so many firmware updates just after release. I find it frustrating not even owning a done 😂 lol. Wish DJI would have their drone fine tuned before release. Then the occasional firmware updates for bugs along the way. This mini 3 pro range/signal issue will put a lot of people off. Kind Regards

Nice video. I think that button should be a switch that you can keep your finger on like we do with fpv race quads. In case of a crash will kill the throttle before any damage is done. If it was a button on the transmitter I would burn up motors, break props and no telling what else.

Great points! I particularly like to use Pause/Cancel/Brake button for cancelling Active Tracking, then that second press to unselect the user & cancel Focus Track entirely. I can't tell you how many times I had an unresponsive drone that wouldn't yaw, or pitch and seemed "stuck" - until you see you are still selected in Focus Track, or with recent releases, in Mastershots or Quickshots. As long as a subject is selected, you cant land, or have full flight control.
FYI Precision landing has been fully enabled. To be more precise

  • @919Drones

I thought the RTH behaved differently based on how far the drone is from the Home Point. The three distances are:
    0m-5m (Lands immediately).
5m-50m (returns to Home Point at its current altitude).
50m plus (raises to RTH altitude if lower) then returns to Home Point.
    Can you test and confirm?
    Bruce

    • @mikespies786
      @mikespies786 Рік тому

Bruce, this is my understanding as well. That said, I can't see myself needing or wanting to use RTH within 5 meters, and generally, my VLOS is good within 50m, but that, of course, depends on the flying environment and my level of "panic" when I lose sight of that tiny drone off in the distance. Excellent point; thanks for the reminder.

I haven't tried that but will test it. My suspicion is that you'll have to cancel the RTH since that is an "emergency" function and will ignore all inputs but the cancel since the drone is essentially in charge of the flight once you trigger the RTH. Stay tuned for an update.

Thanks for the post but everything in this clip was recorded in real time. The RTH section showed what the drone does when you hit the RTH button and instigate a Return to Home. It elevates to the height you have set in the app, turns to face the takeoff point, flies back over the landing zone, spins back to it's original direction at takeoff and then lands. I showed all of that in the clip and it's something you should practice before you need to use it.

  • @testerx7562

Hi. I have a newbie question. When you click and set the RTH height in the app, does it start measuring from the homepoint it started or in general where it is at?
What I mean is, if you are on the mid-point of a mountain and you click on Rth. Will the height depend on the location of where the drone took off ?

Over time you'll be able to find all of the controls without even looking at the controller and the pause button is one of them you'll need to remember. Fair comment perhaps I was being a bit harsh!!
Things can get lost in software menu etc and sometimes you have to dig deep to find something.
The DJI controllers have a limited amount of physical buttons and a drone operator should have good knowledge of what they do 🤔
If someone can understand the software then the physical buttons should be second nature?
Here in the UK it is a legal requirement that you read the manual.

@@kernowradio Thanks for the reply and I was a bit harsh as well and I'm sorry. I agree that folks should fully understand the quad before flying but I spend a lot of time with new pilots in a flying group and somehow this one button confuses them so I thought a lot of other folks might have missed it as well.
