Ages beyond my current understanding of music theory! I've been learning so much in the last few weeks studying microtonality, and this video was gold. Lots of new insights, thanks for putting this up for free! Hope you'll be able to support yourself through music, you sure deserve it.
53:47 What you said here resonates so much. "I'm trying to increase the diversity of pitch in the world" and all the surrounding words you used. Thank you so much for your offerings.
You touch on the argument of technological developments == increased pitch diversity. I think a fair argument to make would be that it is quite evident that as technologies progress, the ones that most people get their hands on are optimized for user experience and streamlined for productivity. Granularity is usually hidden behind submenus or omitted entirely because of low demand. I would say the current technological trend would, at the very least, stagnate pitch diversity. It will definitely take activity such as yours to increase the demand for pitch diversity within music, but even then, we are decades away from it entering the Western mainstream
@@ZheannaErose Thanks for this important precision! Would a slightly unequal 31TET temperament be interesting by approximating even better some particular harmonics in a choice of tonalities (not all of course), the same way slightly unequal 12TETs give a different personality to each tonality? In particular I like very much the so-called Bach-Lehman temperament.
First time I got to catch you live! Found you off of your vegan gains argument from Destiny's channel, and I've watched almost all of your streams in a week. I know literally nothing about music theory/microtonals, but your streams are such good vibes to put in the background while I work on projects. Your voice scratches an itch in my brain I didn't know I had. Thank you so much for the stream!
Had a breakthrough moment from your explanation of concordance shells. I’m finally getting a spatial sense of what they are and am excited to knowingly hear and see/feel these structures. Now reading the prayer room from the start and everything makes sense this time!
@@-47- not yet but eventually ill make part of the music space free! ive spent my life acquiring skills and knowledge in music which i share openly on the server via files, graphics, videos, and replies to questions which can take a few hours to answer fully in some cases. i have also released every album and single entirely free since 2010. now im trying to support myself with music. hope to see you there but i understand if you’ll need to wait for the open server. ♥️
Have you made videos explaining how you can play traditional major, minor, etc. chords? In another video you mentioned consonance is not only an option, but more robust. Are there more than three notes and if so, how many are "standard" in microtonal structures?
I'm curious why your perspective is what it is on subharmonic scales. I haven't had much experience being able to play around with microtonal structures to actually listen to it, but ~theoretically~ it seems that consonant chords should be invertible with similar qualities as long as the low end isn't too crowded. Maybe that idea just doesn't work, but if I had a dang lumatone I'd be able to find out!
Thank you for this absolutely amazing stream! I love your genuine introvert energy, full dedication. You are a such great musician! I would love to see more of this long format where you are playing around, singing, experimenting and commenting for hours. Brings me to peace. Please 53!
I'm fairly inexperienced on the electronic side of things, i heard that midi can't do microtones. Is there something you specifically use? Or is it to do with this lumatone instrument you're using? how would i accomplish this and jump into the 22nd century?
low key we're all here for the music and vibes but she cute as well
High key im here for the music. I don’t like girls like that 😂
I love that tone in the beginning. I wish there was a catalog of more sessions like this. I could listen for hours of you just exploring.
Blessing my long drive, thanks
Microtonally magnificent.
could listen to it all day long sometimes
ngl, I'm clueless about theory (and most music) altogether, but I loved this. Just listening to you play and talk, while I work, was really pleasant.
average as roma fan

This was very calming to listen to in the early hours of the morning.
Beautiful vibes! 🎶🎹
Catched the last 40 minutes or so. Wonderful! 72edo remains my favourite equal temperament, but your dedication to 31 is stunningly convincing.
my dedication is to ji 🙏🏻 ill play any equal. 31 is just good for manageability and quality is solid. thanks !

It's very calming... Thank you so much for that

It has resonance, it’s so like playing with the chimes that some folk put up outside their homes Zheana, from Petra-B with love ❤xxx
nice setup!
Hi, Zheanna! Thanks for such a wonderful video. Would you mind if I sample just a few clips from it for my beats?
Yes of course!

end 12-tet hegemony!

This chordal playing reminds me of Ted Greene.

Have they got you selected you for the BBC Proms yet? Or on Andre Rieu’s Strauss Orchestra? Zheana, love you and your music too, Petra-B xxx

midi can do microtones on some synths like vital or surge

Thanks, didn't expect her to start scatting.
