I'm a long time Suns fan and a big Devin Booker fan in particular. I appreciate the love to an incredible and underappreciated player! But I think it's worth mentioning that he isn't as amazing on-ball as off-ball. His ball handling and passing are ok but not top-notch, which is an anomaly considering his tremendous skill in almost all other aspects of the game. This is one of the reasons double-teaming him is so effective.

I felt he played very well against South Sudan. All eyes are on a few other players but for some reason I focused more on him in the game. I was very pleased with what I saw from him.
Though he's still relatively young (only just 27), he's been around for so long (came into the NBA at 19) and that takes the shine away from him a bit. The younger guys are either better (Luka) or have more hype and success right now (SGA and Ant). The guys just slightly older than him (Jokic, Giannis, Embiid) all havd MVPs. And don't forget that the 'old men' of the league like KD, Curry and LeBron haven't exactly run away yet. He missed his chance around 2021. He had just made the finals as the best player on a team and was in MVP talks at some point. But Phoenix haven't even been to the conference finals since and he's had some pretty embarrassing playoff exits since (blowouts and sweeps). Plus he doesn't have the greatest numbers in elimination games and that leaves a black mark on players (look at Harden for example).

Harden actually has good playoff numbers. I think in his prime he was something like 25+ PPG in the playoffs on like 58-61% TS (I'll have to fact check the exact TS%). But they were good efficient numbers for playoff basketball. But unfortunately your image suffers when despite your great numbers, the last thing people remember about you in the playoffs is something like an 7/19 statline with 5 TOs or something. 14-year KD fan here from PH, so I support PNX (his current team) this is a very accurate breakdown. Book is one of the best SGs in the league, I understand why the media and some fans hate him and I think it's because of his arrogance sometimes. But skill for skill, I'll take Book over any SG any day of the week. He's a perfect 1 2 punch combo with KD IDK if I'm wrong with this, but it's just the system, in-game adjustments(coaching), and a legit facilitator or an on-court voice that tore them apart last year.

I've lived in Arizona all my life and I grew up watching Booker. The way he plays was and is so fluid and simple, but complex in the thinking behind it. He plays so well and is clearly thinking about every opportunity he can create for himself and his team. Now while admittedly when I was a kid I was a Stephen Curry fan. NOT a Warriors fan, a Curry fan. The Suns and Booker will always hold a special place for me. They were the first sports team I was introduced to and watched in person. Booker is a realistic representation of basketball in my opinion, and how most people who strive to be apart of the NBA one day should seek to become.

I will admit that I wasn’t big on Booker. I knew he was a good player but I wasn’t totally convinced. I thought he was a guy who needed thr ball to really make an impact. But when I started to see team USA play, I kept noticing how much Booker was making THE pivotal play. I became convinced he was the glue and take back my skepticism.
