    PZ lens. A must for any videographer. Go back to camcorders if you cannot afford one of these bad boys. You can pick up 4K camcorders for cheap. Power zoom is 100% necessary in any video production in my opinion!

      Perhaps the Batis 18 mm or Loxia 21mm with this for extending the wide range or maybe if f4 is all you need, the Zeiss 16-35 zoom would be the best second lens to have.

    The best and most informative video on Fe Pz 28 135.
    Thanks! Great work. Really learned a lot and able to reach a decision.
    Please suggest what would you recommend, will be the best FE E lens to pair with Sony A7iii for
    1) Shooting sharp closeup mouthwatering macro over the top and 40 degree footage while cooking on the heat. &
    2) Cinematic brolls, slow motion while cutting, chopping, pouring, slicing and prepping the food.
    3) Also very Important - host/talent presenting prescriptive style narration during intro, in betweens and end to explain tips and techniques to fast prep, cook and present the dish.
    CAN ANY ONE LENS DO ALL OF THE ABOVE?
    SHORTLISTED LENses
    FOR MACRO
    1) FE 90 mm F 2.8 Macro
    OR
    2) FE 35 mm F 1.8
    AND
    FOR VIDEO
    1) FE PZ 28 - 135 Mm F4 OSS Cine
    OR
    2) FE 16 - 35 F 2.8 GM
    Please suggest if one of these above can be great 2 lenses in combo to have to make tasty style videos or one lens can do the job of 2 or something else ?

    overall a very good review. QUESTION...does the servo "rocker" on the side "ease in and ease out" when engaging a zoom like most expensive camcorders do? i noticed at the end with the close up on the mans face it look pretty smooth as you engaged zoom but I've found engaging from the widest focal length and starting to zoom separates the boy from the men in how easy it will start to zoom and not hardly be able to notice it starting to move? thanks!

    • @joseallende8046
      @joseallende8046 4 роки тому

      Late, but I can answer this. I just got my 28-135 this week. When zooming in using the servo switch, it actually speeds up once it meets the 135mm mark. Theres no stutter or anything distracting like that, but one would need to practice a little to ensure a smooth gradual transition from optical to clearview zoom. I find it's best to proceed with a slowly. Other than that, you can't tell it's not a 28-200mm lens. It's a truly awesome lens. Btw, I'm using an A7III.

    I'm still trying to decide on this lense. When you use the lens do you use a should rig or any right for that matter? What's your main use for this lense?
    I'm just not sure if I shouldn't return the ronin m & atomos and get this lense. I'm worried about how steady the footage will be. I will be doing interviews which I could use this and my primes. I will also be shooting big powerboats and walking docks which is where I figured the ronin would shine. but I'm having a heck of time figuring out how I will pull focus while using the ronin. this lense would definitely come in handy on race day cause I could put it on a tripod and zoom in on the boats racing and easily be able to pan shots.
    Sorry to bother you again just seeing the high end cars you are shooting the footage looked great. The boats I will be shooting are very high end not that matters but for what I'm trying to do the footage needs to be top notch. Can you p,ease help me figure out a solution. Thanks Jeramy

    • @carsandcamera
      @carsandcamera  8 років тому +1

      This is a great lens I use it for film production on Sony FS7 on A camera and on a Sony FS5 as a B camera and on a A7s II as a B or C camera. I would return the Ronin and the Atomos and get the 28-135 for shots with a good tripod of the boats and your interviews. That lens will be your main go to lens for most of your work. Also with this lens you can get some good handheld shots at different focal lengths with the a7s II or a7r II with the 5 axis. And for getting the smooth stabilized shots get this. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1180478-REG/ikan_beholder_ms1_mirrorless_camera.html
      It's a fantastic stabilizer. It's smaller than the Ronin, lighter and very easy to use. Put your a6300 on there with a wide Sony primes you have. Set your focus to autofocus. You will use the lcd on the back of camera to frame your shots it works great. You can use it one handed and use it inverted to get ground level shots. Batteries in the unit last for hours and extras are very cheap.

      +Jeramy Michael FS5 is absolute junk. Worst camera ever Jeramy. It is ridiculously noisy... also, i had this lens and don't like it either - it does not produce any sharp images, all very soft in my opinion... (but that's my opinion). i'd get a gh4 - much cheaper, you get tons of detail in 4K -- not to mention the colors are so much better and you can record internally without having to worry about overheating. Good job Sony!

    • @carsandcamera
      @carsandcamera  5 років тому

      The Sony FE PZ 28-135mm F4 G OSS is a professional-grade E-mount lens designed with an emphasis on videography rather than stills photography. It’s compatible with Sony E-mount full frame and APS-C cameras. If you like have pro lens I think it’s the one to get as it’s one of my favorite lenses that I own. I use it for video and stills and absolutely love this lens. It’s work equally well for video and stills. I think when the Sony a7SIII is released it will be fantastic compliment to that camera as it makes full frame cameras come alive. Now be aware it is heavy lens but the results are well worth it. Also it’s parfocal lens you focus on something in wide position and it’s in focus in telephoto position. That’s a the mark of a high quality lens. My second favorite lens is the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD Lens. Also a fantastic lens for stills and video but does not have as much reach as the Sony. When I want to travel light I take that lens. If you are looking for a very high quality pro lens I would recommend the Sony lens as you will not be disappointed.

      Yes you can , for 2 month is was handheld this lens and the a7s the original with no grib and it was more than okey! You hold the lens from the tripod support and if you can not film via the monitor with the evf you can get solid film! Later i bought the A7SII with the battery grib and the results are more than a rock steady footage! this lens have the best OSS and combined with the a7sii 5xis works great! I believe handheld depends from the operator.

      ok, I will have to be more patient then . but what are you filming in ? ¤k 25 / 100 ? should I adjust in the shutter mode before recording ? or must this be auto ? I thougt the shutter must be double the frame rate, right ? even with the Scheckter tripod, cost : 1000dollar, I had so much shakes, and tried to reduce it in davinci resolve. maybe I need to learn the camera properly first ........ the example I refere to, wasw when I was walking, cam in the Tilta rig,no stabilizer, but I will buy the Wieldy 1-7Kg Carbon Fiber Stabilizer and see if it helps

      you need to practice holding this lens from the tripod mount and if you put a grib on your a7sii it will be more practical. Also you need to make sure that the OS in the lens is ON and not OFF when you are filming and the 5xis also! I dont do walking handheld with this lends at all but still shots are fine , its not for long period shootings . I did this video with the 28-135, the 35mm 1.4 and the 10-18 vimeo.com/173717950

      Yes you can. The lens features a click less aperture.

    • @tneighbors3177
      @tneighbors3177 6 років тому

      But I own this lens and use it with my A7s and, even when I turn the lens to clickless, the exposure still stairsteps. I was wondering if there is some setting in the camera or something that I don't know about that will allow smooth aperture adjustment.

    • @carsandcamera
      @carsandcamera  6 років тому

      Tim Neighbors When your shooting video are you setting the shutter speed to double the frame rate. Example, 24p recording 1/50 shutter speed. 30p recording 1/50 shutter speed. Do you see stair stepping with these settings? You will need to add ND filter to shoot at these settings. I’m suspecting your shooting at higher shutter speeds and this is why your seeing stair stepping.

    • @tneighbors3177
      @tneighbors3177 6 років тому

      no. high shutter will add a strobe'y effect to motion. I'm talking about the exposure not adjusting smoothly. Here is a video I just made right now with the FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS on a Sony A7S (first generation). I have the iris's 'click' turned off and shutter set at 1/50th while shooting in 24p. The stair stepping seems pretty apparent to me:

    • @carsandcamera
      @carsandcamera  6 років тому

      Tim Neighbors I see your issue. Try this. Set the iris on the lens back to auto keep the the shutter at 1/50 and let the camera adjust iris and move it around to see if the stepping is still occurs. Next try changing the iris with the thumb wheel on the camera instead of the lens and see if it occurs. I have never had an issue with f stop change when shooting with that lens. I also checked for firmware update but there has never been one for the that lens. Are you current with firmware on your camera?

    Would you recommend the lens to a more run and gun cinematography situation?(besides the weight factor)

      I think it would be perfect for a run a gun situation.

      I've heard the weight makes it really hard to do run and gun? You dont think so?

    Oh it has aperture ring!
    I have a question,
    if you change the aperture on camera,
    Does aperture ring on the lens automatically and physically follows(moves)?
    If it's not, it might be like...
    on your camera the aperture is 4, but the aperture ring on lens point out it is on 5.6 or some other numbers..
    It might be weird...
    Hope you understand what I wanna ask
    I'm not native english person, so might be hard to understand. sorry

      박준균Hi I can understand. If you want to set your aperture on the camera the lens will follow if you set it to A Stetting. If the lens is set to F5.6 on the lens ring it will not physically move if you set it on the camera. I like to change the F stop on the lens myself so I almost never use the A setting but it’s there if you want to change it in camera or let the camera pick the aperture if for example you were in shutter priority mode.
