I personally believe it's the key to interdimensional travel. Let me explain, Star touch elves are exceedingly rare in Xadia, with star mages only appearing every couple of generations. They are also described as "Other wordly" this leads me to believe Star Touches don't life on Xadia, but in an entire different plane of reality all together. I believe the key might be handed down from arch mage to arch mage and that's how Aaravos got it. I think in order for it to open a portal, it needs to combine all 6 Arcana, and thats why only arch mages use it. Now, Aaravos was imprisoned, but not by the key. I think it was likely 6 arch dragons combining their magic to toss Aaravos into another dimension. This is eluded to in the novels on multiple ocassions. I think this theory explains why Aaravos doesn't know where he is, why his prison was well chosen (as he would've created his little parlor himself) and why he can still use magic.
As to where the key is being pulled to? Likely the star nexus. Now this theory isn't much else than an assumption, but i think it's likely a portal frame. The key can be used to create a portal, that leads to whatever dimension the star touches life, and where the unicorns might've fled to. (this isn't where Aaravos would be imprisoned) And it isn't like we haven't seen a portal be opened at another nexus.

I believe that Aaravos had accumulated a vast knowledge of all of the Arcanums and that he either encoded the information in the Key or the Key is the means of unlocking wherever he stored that knowledge. It's possible that Queen Zubia gave the Key to one of Harrow's ancestors in the hope that one day a human who would be able to learn Primal Magic and teach it to other humans would emerge.

I think that the key probably frees Aaravos, after all when it gets close to a primal source it glows, and Aaravos has learned all primal magics meaning that if it were to get close to him all of the runes would glow, so maybe in order to free him he has to trick someone to get the cube and bring it to the mirror so taht all the runes will glow and that will and free him. Also a really interesting thing I never knew before was that the lines got longer as Callum traveled to Xadia... which meant it got longer as he traveled father away from where it was and the banther lodge is pretty close to the castle where the mirror and Aaravos is so maybe it is pointing to him. Also I know you said that it belonged to him probably way before he was imprisoned so that means it doesn't free him... but wait! Remember that several times in the show it seems Aaravos has this all knowingness. For example before Claudia even shows signs of great power like bringing Viren back to life Aaravos already states that she is a powerful asset and that they need her meaning he might have already known Viren was going to die so he needed Claudia to bring him back. And in Callum's sketchbook he says words like VISION and DESTINY are aligned with star magic so perhaps some if not all Star Touched elves can see the future so Aaravos probably knew he would be imprisoned and made the key as a way out if it ever happened which it did. Just a theory but I think it might actually be true, but we'll see. :3

I personally believe that it's the key to Aaravos's contained power. It can be reasonably inferred that Aaravos is extremely strong, maybe even the strongest but we have never seen him use any of the magic, all of it was done through him passing on knowledge to Viren and manipulating him. There's not much else I could say to back this up, but I also have a few unsupported theories based off of this.
    1. The location where the cube is rolling towards is the place where Aaravos's power is sealed
    2. The cube lights up to primal sources of magic because it is reacting to pieces or Aaravos's power that leaked out of the seal
    3. Aaravos, was the one to have created Dark Magic secretly wanting to absorb all magic within the world, allowing him to become the strongest being in the world, however, the elves and dragons disapproved of it, sealing his power away. However, Aaravos knew this and passed on the knowledge of Dark Magic to the humans (Thus why the first dark mage we saw had a staff he did not create).

May question would be 'why?'. Why is a magical artifact of an elven archmage in possession of a human kingdom? It's no coincidence. Assuming Aaravos planned this, only the humans versed in magic would see it as a peculiarity and not a toy. That would be dark mages that Aaravos has some kind of connection with. The cube might be meant to bring human tools to him. And in Aaravos' current arrest status, that will make them liberators. The cube does not open the prison, it leads mages to the prison who are strong enough to open it from the outside.

Have you considered the possibility that it might be something other than a get out of jail ploy?

    • @thenewdragonguard6670
      @thenewdragonguard6670 2 роки тому

That's a possibility, however given the tone of the story so far, I consider it more likely that Aaravos made it specifically to communicate with dark mages.

    • @ethenallen1388
      @ethenallen1388 2 роки тому

@@thenewdragonguard6670 I'm not aware that either Viren or Claudia were ever aware of the Key of Aaravos, even though they, as personal friends of the Royal Family, would have probably visited the Banther Lodge on at least one occasion. And what about the mage who trained Viren?
The only instant I know of in which the Key was shown to have a Dark Magic rune on it was during Callum's fever dream, and since it was a fever dream, much of it is open to personal interpretation, and my interpretation is that Callum's subconscious was trying to process the fact that he was at a crossroads with far reaching implications. It's worth noting that Aaravos was never seen in that dream, only people Callum had personally known at that time. Furthermore, that fact that the Sky Rune on the Key was glowing at the same time he was dreaming about his mother giving him baldly needed advice tells me that the Key somehow helped him connect to the Sky Arcanum.
I am aware of no action, event or decision within the Key's proximity that supports the notion that it was created using Dark Magic with malicious purpose. Admittedly I did skip over a lot, so if there is a scene supporting that notion, please tell me exactly when it happens so I can view it for myself.
The Key of Aaravos was first identified by name in a letter in which Harrow expressed a wish that Callum and Ezran would abandon the narrative of power and vengeance and follow the narrative of love and forgiveness, and freeing humanity from its dependency of Dark Magic would be an important part of that vision. That is the context in which I look at the Key of Aaravos and the roll it will likely play.
To me, it makes sense that in the process of mastering all six Primal Sources, Aaravos would have taken notes and kept journals that would be useful to humans trying to learn Primal Magic, and that he would lock those notes and journals in a hidden library with a magic key. If one of Harrow's ancestors had been involved in the events that got Aaravos imprisoned, then that ancestor might have taken the Key back to Katolis in the hope that it would help humans learn Primal Magic but wasn't able to follow up on that dream. It stands to reason that they Key would have then been forgotten until Harrow learned that a certain elf spared the life of one of his guards.
Not everything in the Dragon Prince is doom, gloom and betrayal. Quite the opposite, brave honorable beings have joined behind a common cause despite the mistakes some of them have made.

i think if the writers go in the direction of callum mastering all 6 primal sources the series will probably be very rushed because it took callum almost an entire season to learn sky magic and there are 7 confirmed seasons so unless the writers make the other seasons really really long there's not going to be enough time for callum to learn all of them. also the idea of "master all the different types of magic" or "get all the smaller McGuffins together to make a stronger McGuffin" is a very popular trope in tv and media also Aaron Ehaze already worked on a show like that so i doubt they'll do it again if they do do it and manage to pull it off before the show ends it wouldn't be original and they would have to do something really crazy and unique to make it stand out.
now about the "key" part of the key i think instead of it opening aaravos' prison or unlocking something its going to have a different function entirely. i do think its going to be important but i think it will be more important or have a different use when all the runes light up simultaneously. for example we have already seen magic the can pinpoint location i think aaravos' key will do something similar except leading the way to aaravos or his prison. or the key itself could open to reveal a different McGuffin that'll be more important to the story

Maybe but the problem with time skips is time is passing (obviously) but if the writers have a time skip of a few years it has to feel natural. What i mean is there has to be enough events for it to realistically feel like that time has passed. its the same story same charachters just a different time. Thats the main problem with time skips of more than a few months. another thing is if there are characterisation monents during the time skip it'll feel like theres a piece missing that the audience need to figure out and to be fair some stories work with it and make that the focus of the post time skip storyline but the way tdp is progressing having a plotline like that would probably throw off the pacing of the show. if for example there's a time skip between s3 and s4 (there probably will be already but im talking abt one thats more than 3 or 4 months long) and rayla becomes a vigilate or chaotic neutral type thing we would want to know how and why and if the story focuses on that for the first few episodes assuming the season is going to be the same length as season 3 give or take an episode or two theres only going to be so much time to develop the characters and follow-up on the preexisting plotlines like: viren coming back to life, the coocoon thing aaravos is in, and raylas desicion at the end of through the moon. all of them will have to be developed along with ezran, callum and the politics of katolis and everything else if orgot to mention. thats a lot to develop and progress in 20-30 ish episodes and if they use a few for a time skip then season 4 could just end up feeling rushed or forced also they(the writters) have to figure out what happens during the skiped time if there are any drastic changes they also need to "fix" those drastic changes if they happen. overall it'll just be too much for one seasons and even if there is a tine skip i still don't think callum will have enough time to learn all the arcanums on screen and if he learns them of screen and we don't see his journey and thought process it could feel forced and will reveal the hand of the author which is a big no no in story telling.

What if the key to aravos is the key to magic as Calum didn’t have magic before hand but he traveled with the key on him slowly unlocking the magic with in.
Plus it could also be the key to all human magic

This is a long theory, TL;DR at the end
It's mentioned (I think on the official website) that humans wanted to learn an important lesson from the stars, and they waited so long that they ended up teaching it to themselves by accident. The lesson was patience (I think) and this could be related to the theory of Aaravos teaching dark magic to the humans or stealing their primal magic for himself. The humans only had to wait so long because the stars didn't care about them at all, so maybe Aaravos had something important to do with the humans' lesson in magic-- whether he didn't help when he could have so the humans had to do it on their own, or he got upset when they figured out some sort of dark magic. I wonder, too, if they initially learned primal magic and were too powerful with it, seeing as they wouldn't be limited to one specific (or maybe even one) primal source like elves probably are. Aaravos could have felt threatened and taken it, then acted like a savior by teaching them a more convenient form of magic: dark magic. It would have been easier, so the humans would have moved on from primal magic (note that he might not have actually stolen primal magic, but just pushed humans away from it over time). But dark magic comes at a cost, like the deterioration of your body and possibly your sanity as well (Viren is probably insane, Claudia seems to be going insane, and even Callum had that crazy dream after trying dark magic only once. People who are insane are also more easily manipulated, which would serve Aaravos well if they're super powerful), which would make humans who are highly talented more likely to die young or be rendered incapable of performing spells, sort of like what happened to Soren in season two because of trying to kill that dragon (this goal follows very similar thought patterns as those of dark magic at its core: Soren said himself that he was doing it to make their father happy at the expense of a whole dragon and town, which reflects how dark magic can do many amazing yet dangerous things at the expense of living creatures. Also, they planned to use the dragon to do more dark magic). It is also possible that Aaravos realized the humans would have been ostracized for using dark magic since it goes against the entire foundation of elven society, which would further separate the humans from power. What's more, Aaravos could have kept the humans in his debt-- maybe even bound them magically-- because they were so grateful to him for teaching them magic. If the binding still exists, or the debt hasn't been paid off, then Aaravos could call in the favour at a crucial time during the story. Maybe he finds out that Callum rediscovered primal magic, and he uses the debt that humans are in to force something upon Callum, like cutting him off from the sky arcanum, or putting a stopper on the other arcanums from within Callum (since he would have bypassed all the restrictions on the arcanums themselves), in order to prevent a significant rise in power with the humans. Or, he could recognize the potential within Callum, and manipulate him into freeing him after having taught him the other arcanums. Then, he could call upon the favour and forcefully remove Callum's access to the arcanums.
Then, noting how the marks get longer when Callum is in Xadia, it is possible that they point towards Aaravos-- after all, he has mastered the arcanum for every mark on that thing, and probably created it, too. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's bonded to him with magic or something along those lines. Not necessarily a key to the prison, then, but definitely an indicator to its whereabouts. Possibly, the cube points out the shortest route to Aaravos-- be it the mirror or the actual prison. Given that Claudia only has thirty days to make Viren's resurrection permanent, and how Aaravos loves to "help" people, this would be a good reason for the main antagonists to want the cube, and explains why she supposedly moved Viren's corpse closer to the palace (can't remember if that came from the website, a theory, or something else). She definitely knows Callum has the cube, and it would be big news that a human mage can do primal magic without a primal stone. She'd automatically assume it was helping him in some way. With both claudia and callum, two very powerful mages, working to bust Aaravos out of prison, from separate locations no less, he would certainly get out. And with Rayla gone, who knows what Callum is now willing to do? It's possible that Aaravos promised to lead him to Viren, since that's who Rayla went looking for.
TL;DR, Aaravos tricked the humans into abandoning primal magic in favor of an easier way, and used their gratitude to bind them into his debt. He manipulates claudia and callum into busting him out of prison through his knowledge of saving/finding Viren and Rayla, then calls upon the favour at a really bad time for the heroes, messing up some final plan, Gravity Falls style. This could lead to a number of possible endings, vast combinations of victory and loss for the protagonists. Since this is a childrens' show, I would be surprised if they went the route of Aaravos winning, but tdp handles darker themes well, so I'm not sure what to think of that, really. Oh, and somehow Ez being able to speak to animals also ties in.

Personally can I say that as one of it's functions. The key might be able to allow for creatures to connect to a primal source. In a similar way that Callum did. But. It isn't instant and takes concentration and the ability to focus on understanding that primal source. I actually think that Aaravos actually created this as a channel for the various primal sources but didn't work like a primal stone like he intended. But instead allowed for a mild connection that with patience and consistent focus. Allowed for a person born without that connection to connect to the source and the Aaravos used that to connect himself to the various sources. This is also why it responds to the various sources in other creatures. It is designed to channel that power so of course it all works together as focus of the primal sources. It is the KEY to the primal sources within us and other's and it understands and wants to channel that. In Calum or Calem's dream whne he connected to the primal source of the sky, it showed itself promenently in that dream. And if anything I believe that if used properly can allow for the consistent and conjuctive use of various sources together.
Now I don't think this is nearly as likely but why was Aarvaros sealed away? That is someothing that I think to many people forget about. There is no explanation about who or why? And how does the key work in this. Well I think that the key actually was used by various mages together to seal him away and remove him from all of the world. giving him no direct control over any of the sources which is why he can only channel the source through viran. Not in his world not that we have seen this suppported overall but I think it could be likely.
Anyway all of this is just a theory anyway.
Although I don't demean Calum's gaining his primal source and I would love a natural way or form to bond with the primal source or maybe in a nexus but still it is just a theory.
But also I think that this definitely work. The thing is that maybe all creatures could bond to the arcanum and that some people have more affinity for it then others? Maybe that's why Callum is the only person known to have bonded with a source as human. I think that to bond to a source that you need one or more of these various things before gaining the understanding and properly bonding.
    - Affinity with the sources
    - Magical heritage
    - Key of Aaravos
    - Experience of magic that causes the realisation
There may be more but I think that you need one or more of these to be able to connect to the primal arcanum and use magic.
The more of these you experience the more likely you have a chance to bond to that arcanum. I think it is also plausable that dark magic actually opens these "Gates" inside of you to these arcanums and allows for these connections but forces the channeling of it. And Callum rejecting it and the key of Aarvaros channeling the sky arcanum allowed him to finally to connect properly thorugh his own self determinism.
    Once again just a theory.

    Speculation:
The key WILL be used to free him, but not exactly how you'd expect. Someone like Aaravos would not keep a random item. The Key of Aaravos is a key. You could say it's a key to his power. Maybe, if Claudia, Viren, or the worm thing gets it to Aaravos, he would regain enough power to escape from the cage, and begin the end. Maybe to release its currently non-existent power _could_ be released by all of the runes being activated.
    I am becoming too lore-hungry.
Does anyone know how to time travel or speed up time?

Mmmm, I wonder if...Callum thinks it is destiny but maybe that was too part of aaravos plan? Think about it, some says star touch elves can see the future, well maybe they actually can or at least the most powerful ones...not every detail of course, but parts, glimpse that they can then reconnect logically that could be one of the reason why aaravos always acts like he can see the bigger picture.
Aaravos might have known he would be imprisoned, about being freed by a human, about his key ending in a human mage hands....and let it happen. Sure he does not know everything, like he acted surprised by raylas two times.
Perhaps the key is not the key, perhaps Callum is the key, and the something powerful might be simply change, a change planned by aaravos. That might be interesting since one of the topic of this series is to defy destiny.
But it is just a theory

ok I want to update, Davon confirmed that the key is very relevant but that it is not what you think so surely it is neither the key to the prison of Aaravos, nor the prison, because we can see the orphaned queen holding said cube in theory When he discovered the truth, I also doubt that he would keep said cube and pass it on from generation to generation. I believe that the cube is something that not even aaravos could decipher and that he knew it contained and was the key to a great power that would surpass him. So the queen hid him in the hope that she would be the key to stop him. I think it could be the key to a new primary source. more powerful than dark magic
