I've been a critical care RN for years. When patients ask about treatment I always share what our family does: get a second opinion from another specialist not in the same practice. Often this can be done when the second opinion doctor reviews all your test results and then meets with you to discuss their suggestions and answer your questions. Your current doc can often get you a second opinion via referral. When your decision is the same, you'll feel more confident in the treatment. Human interaction is always superior to internet research. Everyone needs to advocate for themselves with their insurance. Bless you all :)

Tom, I received a similar diagnosis. I had a biopsy that showed a Gleason score of 6 and urologist said the cancer appears to be non-aggressive. Bone and CAT scans both showed no metastasis so I elected to take an "active surveilance" approach for now rather than surgery or radiation. My PSA will be monitored every three months. I am probably just kicking the can down the proverbial road. I appreciate you sharing the information about radiation therapy. That will help me if/when I face that decision. Best wishes to you.

She said during the hardest days of chemo and cobalt treatments she leaned on the Lord. Please know you are not alone and you are in many hearts and prayers! Please take care.
I am glad for you, you have made your decision and now the wait for approval on which treatment will be covered. That is the hardest sometimes. Life is one day at a time, and we are not promised tomorrow. It is wise to keep an account for your yearly out of pocket costs/ deductible. I know you are a detailed man. I am the same way myself. Never forget you do have family also, many out there do not. Keep your virtual family posted on things. We do care. Prayers for you!! I know this is not a easy road to travel but I have faith that all will turn out ok especially since so little of the prostate is involved. My husband has an aggressive type of Prostate cancer that includes the complete prostate. He did radiation and hormone therapy. He had side effects but he did go into remission in November 2022. Unfortunately at the end 2023 he had cancer return. Doctors wanted to check PSA twice over the course of 6 months. He goes on Monday to find out details of the returned cancer. Keep your spirits up and know that God has this! Please keep us updated.
