I love how there are multiple trains running with no midcourse block separating them. They must really trust those brakemen to pay attention!

So I rode on it just this week, on Tuesday, so it is still in operation, though most of the Vidámpark is closed, the bits still open are combined with the zoo. Great memories!

That coaster is really built ! Such a heavy looking structure .The turn arounds seem to be long and drawn out. But still a beautiful ride !

Soon it will operate again, when the building of Pannon Park biodome will be finished and the whole place shall come out of being a construction area. So sad Vidámpark closed in 2013, but i think Budapest Zoo is doing a good job managing this whole place.

This would never fly in the US. I couldn't believe they had guests running and jumping onto a moving car! Also no fence is separating the riders from the train and the support are awfully close to the track. Let's not even mention the lack of a restraint!

This is a very old roller coaster
      Nowadays I think it's closed
      Honestly I don't know
It's more like a historical coaster for us

It's one of the oldest roller coasters in the world, this one was opened in 1922. I don't know about any serious accidents in its history. (One reason is that it's pretty slow...)
It's closed now but accodsing to plans, it will reopen this year :)

I was in the hungary in early 2000's, there was also a rollercoaster with loop (Not sure if it was just borrowed or moved). Now, This park does not exists anymore, it is a part of ZOO now.
This one hullámvasút was pretty cool and noisy. In central europe there is nothing like amusement parks anymore. Even the ZOOs are poor.

Really? I think that Prater in Wien is great and ZOO's in Prague or Berlin are two of the best european zoo's!!

I think you saw Looping Star. This ride has been named Thunder Loop Express and has been used in Dreamland, England from 1981 to 1994, then in Loudon Castle Family Theme Park, Scotland from 1995 to 1998.
Leased and taken to Budapest Vidámpark in 2000 where it remained until 2009, when Vidámpark decided to let it back to Scotland. The reasons were 'financial, technical and operational' as said, suggesting that the ride was outdated and its maintenance cost was high.

Constructed in the 1920's. One of the two surviver of the demolished park.

One of 9 surviving scenic railways in the world, I believe its the 4th oldest of those scenic railways, when will it open again?

Financial, political and environmental problems around the biodome project and of course covid are delaying the opening of Pannon Park.

I sort of remember going on this about 20 years ago. Fun, but not up to Alton Towers, or Canada's Wonderland. Anyway... Does anyone know if this is still running, because I thought the Vidámpark was closed, but there was an item on the news a couple of days ago about one of the cars getting stuck halfway round. It would be difficult if it were closed... I live near to Budapest now and I wouldn't mind a ride for old time's sake.

The rollercoaster, opened in 1922, at the time was considered among the biggest in its kind, is one of the few vintage rides remaining from amusement park times, besides still active Körhinta (merry-go-round from 1908) and Mesecsónak (Fairytale Boat). Great zoo developments running in the area, Pannon Park biodome is under construction, right after its completion, next is to wake up rollercoaster and the underlying fairytale boat from their sleep.

Wow - another snorefest rollercoaster! The most exciting part was getting on, which seemingly must be done while the coaster is in motion! Yeah - thats safe!
And how about the sign at the end: "PLEASE GET OFF". And by the way - do it while the train is still moving! :)

We had high hopes this will reborn sometime. Now we know it never will. No maintenance for many years, needs total renovation which could cost millions of money. They can't tear down because it's on the cultural heritage list so they let it slowly rot away and collapse. Sad to say it is gone.
