Yes. Thank God that He put it on my heart to download 3 separate bible apps on my phone for quick reference purposes when I first began. I say this because each one has a devotional setting that gives a verse notification at a time you set. I set them for 7am, 12pm, and 7pm. This was definitely one of the hardest and still is the hardest thing for me to do, as I have been a catholic all my life, I've heard all there is to hear...well in general that is. I never found it in me to pick up the Bible and reread or read on my own, it was always "the priest will read it and explain it anyway" But when the Lord called me back to him after all these years of wandering , I picked up the Bible and I realized how little I knew
Reading the bible is what helped me quit the catholic church. The more I read the bible, the more the Holy Spirit exposed the deceit of the evil church. I joined the church in fifth grade at 11 years. High school and tertiary were all Catholic schools. Even my 1st job was in a catholic hospital. Around 30 years I started reading my bible at home and got born again. I remained in the church but felt uncomfortable. It was until when I turned 54 years that I quit. My job now is to pray for my family for their salvation. You are talking of children and grandchildren.
So true, reading other self help and spiritual books should never replace the bible. May we save others by sharing the word and give ourselves peace by studying 🙏🏽🔥
After like 40 years I finally decided to read the Bible from book to book starting with the New Testament. I've read the Bible all my life but not in a very focused purpose driven way. Now that I've started doing it, it's been a Christian-game changer. I literally read word by word thinking about their meanings and looking up things if I don't understand. I also write my thoughts about what I just read and share it with my girlfriend and so does she. Now I cannot imagine a Christian who doesn't read the Bible, it's not possible to be faithful to God the way we ought to be without reading the Bible. You're also susceptible to fall for false teaching if you don't have the knowledge of the scripture because you don't know what is right and wrong. That's how many people fall into false teachings.
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." - Joshua 1:8
Have you ever missed a day of reading scripture, due to working late or having guests? The next day, as you read, it’s like a man in a desert drinking a large, cold cup of water. You actually feel your soul delighting in it,

Then for the next 5 days, I read spiritual books or commentaries on the Bible. I do this 4 times a year. I do not know if this is the proper way. But for me it works.

The devil and the world bombards us with so much on a daily basis, reading scripture washer and renews our mind. if you try to live your christian life without the word, you will be an easy target for the devil to torment, the sin senses will probably become dull and your spirit man will be very weak and the temptations will be hoarding you like a mob.
What's the best way to get back into the Word? Shall I go for the Gospels, the Epistles, my personal favourite story (to ease myself back into it), the Psalms, the Proverbs, Genesis or Revelation? Or any other suggestion? Until I get an answer, I'll read from where I was at last but please give me a good suggestion. Love you all, brothers and sisters.
