If you are lucky to get the materials required for steel fast it can be done in a few episodes but one needs a tad of luck as well as skill for steel fast track BUT the automation for the forge is what should be priority zero since manually making everything on the anvil is a pain in the b u t t ! but that might be just my 2 cents !
Putting together that the carburising process takes a FULL INGAME WEEK of changing out the charcoal once daily, the sheer amount of infrastructure you need to prepare (a basic windmill at the very least) and that you need to have first progressed to bronze *while keeping yourself fed and alive*, making steel is a real bitch.
Easily one of the most immersive games I've ever played. You really get a feeling of accomplishment once you're somewhat setup, and nothing comes easy especially when you're learning the game. Definitely one of my favorite survival crafting games, just excellent stuff.
As a longtime VS player it makes me so happy that this game is starting to gain a more broad following, it really has earned it. There will always be Minecraft comparisons, but in my opinion, the two games end up feeling verrrry different! In terms of atmosphere, main gameplay loop and difficulty it actually reminds me a little more of Don't Starve then Minecraft personally. It's also impressively immersive when playing! I recommend folks give the Immersive First Person mode a try too, you'll be able to see your player model as you act, it gives me such a connection to the world. This is the only survival game that has ever made me stop and appreciate the world I'm in/views. There's also a demo available, highly recommend folks give it a shot!
Oh, and for folks looking for a more hardcore or immersive experience, turn soil block gravity on in the custom world settings. No dirt shacks, mountainsides can slide a bit as you walk across, and if you're not careful near a pit's edge you might just fall in!
After playing for three years and having tried 3 major plays I can tell you - this is a game that humbles modern gamers! There is noch cheating a lot of dying and even more of learning and reading! A good portions of luck is needed to get to the point where you would be after 10 hours in Minecraft. Take at least 70 hours to have a stable house and copper tools and enough food for winter and feeding some first bred animals. Be careful and enjoy every moment! (hint: bears will fuck you up very quickly and wolves as well :D)
I'm only a few min into the gameplay and I'm LOVING that little minigame they have for when you crafted that knife blade. I think it would be AWESOME if you were able to sort of make whatever shape you wanted, and different shapes would do different things. Maybe if you made a knife with serrated edges it inflicts bleed, or something like that.
The devs of Vintage Story indeed started as Minecraft modders, namely the mod "Vintagecraft". They decided that for their vision they would need a custom engine, so they made Vintage Story.

4:09 Just to correct you here. It is not most of the rocks that can be knapped into stone tools. In fact, most of the stone in the game are too soft to do so. Only 6 of the 21 different stone types are hard enough to be knapped: Andesite, Basalt, Granite, Peridotite, Flint, & Obsidian. Flint is slightly different from all those others in that no only can it be found as small stones on the surface like the other five, but when found as deposits either exposed to air on a hillside somewhere or found underground or while mining, it can be gotten from the block it's found in by hand without needing a pickaxe. Now, even though you can't knap 15 of the softer stone types into tools, you can use them to knap WITH, holding the softer stone in your hand and knapping away at the harder stone placed on the ground.

LOL having the mod that places custom map markers faster is a heaven send btw ,,, some modes for VS are quite important just for quality of life ...sadly I havent played VS in like more then 1 y so I m rusty and can t remember what was a must for me when I played ...
I love this game just started playing it again a few days ago I recommend you try some mods too Primitive Survival is a good place to start and has lots of cool features that just extend your options for survival
Something to note is that you swim faster than any other creature in the game, so actually deep water is your friend when it comes to escaping from predators, and actually killing them too if you prefer that approach. Just fill your inventory with spears, lure an animal like a wolf or bear into a (at least 2 blocks deep) pond, then kite them in circles while chucking spears at them until they die. EDIT: Another thing to note is that if you are playing Wilderness Survival (my preferred game mode) then blocks like Dirt, Gravel, and Sand have gravity and can slide down hills, meaning you wouldn't be able to just dig into the side of a hill to make a home without crushing yourself. I actually forgot you were playing on Standard and got super confused until I remembered that gravity wasn't a standard game setting.
Hey rhadamant great to see you playing this fabulous game and hope you enjoy it. How many episodes will this first stream edit down to? Keep up the good work and I will definitely be voting for more.
For anyone familiar, this is very similar to the Terrafirmacraft mod for Minecraft. If you’re interested but don’t want to buy quite yet, that’s a good place to start. If you like it, then this is probably a game for you.
@@Rhadamant Let’s be honest. Who doesn’t have Minecraft at this point? I feel like the Venn diagram of people who have Minecraft and people who would buy this game is probably concentric circles.
This looks like what I'd like Minecraft to be. People use so many external tools to help with Minecraft because the progression and tutorialising is broken. This gets around it by just including those sames tools in the game. Really smart move!
Oh bummer, well I strive to be easy to watch, informative and also incorporate live viewers ideas into the series, so let's hope my content is acceptable to you =]
No you seem fine, thats why I mentioned it. There really aren't many people that play this on UA-cam. I haven't had time to watch it yet, but I do really like this game.

If this was my game I would have used a voxel mesh grid like 7 days to die rather than the cube based voxel game genre. It is so out of style they have basically a step by step walk through and starter project to BEGIN at 75% complete when making a project that looks like this. In fact it's so every day that they have guides about doing it in C++ from scratch here on youtube.
Uhh ... the voxel grid here is actually way more similar to 7DTD than I think you realize, the smallest voxel in this game is TINY, maybe 1/64ths or 1/128ths of the size of the large blocks
@@Rhadamant - A diagonal grid of diamonds is a little different then a standard grid of cubes. A mesh grid uses manipulated mesh points rather than removing tile/cubes. I can clearly see that the environment is all large cubes, which is an entirely different terrain genre. I am not sure what the extent of your knowledge is on the subject but the ability to produce an item or placeable that is very small that also has collision has nothing to do with a "grid". Because that item or placeable can move 0.0001 of a pixel does not mean the grid is 0.0001 if you get what I am saying.
This looks neat. It's like a very modded version of Minecraft. The fact that it has similar elements makes it fast to learn, but I like the bushcraft and historical aspects of making things and leveling up in technology. It looks like it would give a lot more gameplay before getting boring/redundant. Also, I was thinking about Primitive Technology before you mentioned it. LOL. Wonder if the game lets us make a water-powered hammer?
The only real ramification is that if people are referencing how to do certain things in the game you'll have to remember whatever key combos they are referencing are backwards for you if you rebind, which can be confusing
@@Rhadamant not that I could find. Nor was there a mod to do it. It’s been 6 mos since I looked though. I can make then non aggressive. But they keep spawning and moaning. I just want to build, farm, smelt, smith, hunt, etc. w/o moaning monkeys on my back 😂
I'd play this over Terrafirmacraft but only for the performance. TFC plus unfortunately still works on an ancient Minecraft version and runs at glacial frame rate with heavy stutter. :(
@@Rhadamant the project forked and the other fork is utilizing a much later version, and so performance is probably much better. Shame, as I prefer the older fork for gameplay mechanics reasons.
What graphic settings are you using? The game runs too smooth considering the way it looks I have a high end PC that stutters on Very/Ultra high settings

Tip, if your looking at an item in the world and can read it's name. You can hold shift then hit "h" to open the hand book to the page for that item. Also if in your inventory hitting 'h" when your cursor is over an item you will open up the item handbook page.
I know
@@Rhadamant yeah by the end of the video I realized even playing for a month now since you posted this. But hey it's a good tip for anyone watching your video as they're getting into the game.
Indeed @@tarmel55
OMG yes pls Rhadamant playing vintage!! You are a great content creator, thanks for your vids!!!
Welcome!
I've been looking for this!
You keep 'em coming, I'll keep watching and playing. I've bought the game, but there aren't a lot of decent tutorials. This is amazing!
Oh awesome!!
Love Vintage Story so much. Been playing it for years now with no regrets! Thank you for showcasing it; I appreciate you! ♥♥
You are so welcome!
I love VS! Been playing it for years now, lol. Super excited to sit down and binge this now that I've finally caught up with the current zombie rimworld series! The modding community is HUGE for VS and it's only growing, a lot of the announced features for the base game updates are really exciting too. There's so much content, and it's going to just keep growing!
Reading over the features for next patch is exciting, I agree!
16:44 dude, you would probably make for an amazing metal singer! Ironic you spoke of technological development being brutal, because that was lowkey a super brutal low you hit LOL
Haha that's hilarious, I wasn't even trying to hit a low note ... hmm .. time for a career change? lol
Man, i remember playing this game back in 2021 on my old crappy gaming laptop. Could barely hit 60FPS but I loved the game. Sadly I've lost my account but I'm definitely gonna make a new one! If this turns into a long running series, perhaps a fan server is is order *wink*
Lost account, oh no!
@@Rhadamant Yeah I know! Had it registered to an email which I ended up deleting. It was the only account I forgot to back up from that email 😭
Dude thank you so much for your face cam being small and less screen consuming that alot of other it is nice👍👍
No problem 👍
Me and some friends jumped on Minecraft again recently, and I was lamenting how I wish it had more hardcore survival elements. This actually sounds so cool, I'll for sure be trying to convinve them to give it a go ^^
Good luck convincing them!
If you manage the discord is very kind to figuring out servers. I reccomend self hosting if you are able.
Glad you got to stream this one, always thought it would be a good game for the channel!
Your name fits perfectly into the game
Sweet glad i was on the winning side of this one. I honestly enjoy watching this over playing
Glad you enjoy it!
As a (much smaller) fellow VS creator, can't wait to see what you get up to! (also, just love your videos in general, Give Yoda a pat for me).
Ahoy there ArcWolf! Yoda will get all the pats he wants!
One of my favorite games. I always love it when youtubers I know pick it up. I hope it keeps gaining momentum.
It's nice to see the devs get the full cut of the sales, too, instead of Steam scraping off a ridiculous 30%. I'm glad they didn't put it on steam.
Cheers =]
Yay, a non-Steam game that looks like it'll scratch my Minecraft itch! And since I'm a bit late, there's already more episodes to get a good impression and fully make up my mind, but at this point, I already rather doubt that I *_won't_* buy it 😊
If you do I hope you enjoy!
I absolutely love this game. Excited to see your playthrough
Why thank you Seb I hope I don't disappoint!
Pumped for this! I've seen a few other content creators play this, but it is always heavily modded.
Ahh well here I am will the vanillist experience!
I would have placed a map marker for that underwater cave ... but that s just me and my poor memory ... LOL having the mod that places custom map markers faster is a heaven send btw ,,, some modes for VS are quite important just for quality of life ...sadly I havent played VS in like more then 1 y so I m rusty and can t remember what was a must for me when I played ...
Any time I play a game for the first time on my channel I play vanilla with pretty much no exceptions.
Loved the shout out to one of my fellow Australian's and one of my favourite YT channels "Primitive Technology"
Oh of course! The amount of fake copycats is insane, but he's legit
I love this game just started playing it again a few days ago I recommend you try some mods too Primitive Survival is a good place to start and has lots of cool features that just extend your options for survival
For this series I won't be using any mods at any point
Ive been waiting, voting, for a good few epidodes to come out before binging. lets go
Cheerio and enjoy!
reminds me a little bit of a Minecraft pack called SevTech Ages. Slower paced, and as you "aged up" you became aware of newer technologies.
I never played much modded Minecraft so all of the references to mods are pretty lost on me
"You don't get access to do tech for quite awhile" my friend, I'm going to blow your mind. Check out the `Crude Door` in the handbook.
Sure but its doesn't count as a door as far as enclosures go
this looks really good!
Cheers!
What a dope as hell game! Glad that Rhad is playing it!
Cheers dude I've been having a blast
this reminds me of the terrafermacraft mod for Minecraft but more debt
debt?
@@Rhadamant i suck spelling indeft might be the right word but not sure on if i spelled it right
in depth! @@nightfire6898
When the wolf was chasing you. He gave up after a while as he wasn't interested in fast food tonight
Yeah ~20 blocks or so they'll lose interest, bears stay on you a bit longer
10:01 I had a hard time dying to bears and wolves at my first world in this game
Aye!
This is a fabulous game. Even though mining is.....something else......it's very satisfying. Building is beyond compare.
Agreed
I know =]
Also just a heads up I'm on episode 61 now so starting out tips aren't helpful, so save yourself the effort =]
Hey rhadamant great to see you playing this fabulous game and hope you enjoy it. How many episodes will this first stream edit down to? Keep up the good work and I will definitely be voting for more.
6 for the first stream, but its leading with a sizable lead in the polls for a 2nd stream already
For anyone familiar, this is very similar to the Terrafirmacraft mod for Minecraft. If you’re interested but don’t want to buy quite yet, that’s a good place to start. If you like it, then this is probably a game for you.
Good plan for people who have Minecraft I suppose
@@Rhadamant Let’s be honest. Who doesn’t have Minecraft at this point? I feel like the Venn diagram of people who have Minecraft and people who would buy this game is probably concentric circles.
This looks like what I'd like Minecraft to be. People use so many external tools to help with Minecraft because the progression and tutorialising is broken. This gets around it by just including those sames tools in the game. Really smart move!
Yes indeed
Looking forward to this new campaign. I'm ready for it.
Perfect!
This game is so much better than MC. Not many people actually cover it. The few I have found are typically obnoxious and hard to watch.
Damn you, MacBook! I will never forget this betrayal of my trust.
RIP
Good pick i've played this game and it was very enjoyable with friends. :D
Oh fun =]
"Wurm" is all you need, Its where Minecraft was born from.
Okey dokey
Neat glad I found this ty for being informational as well.😊
You are so welcome
Just randomly saw this. LOVING IT! time to catch up on episodes
Oh enjoy!!
I love how you cite Primitive Tech lmao
Haha yeah !
Thank you for the awesome video and great content!!
My pleasure!
I love this game and I love seeing you play it
Awesome!
watching you just walk around in the forest is giving me so much anxiety.
Good!
Uuuh "56 Videos"

And your voice is pleasent to listen to and you don't fall asleep while talking, thats great!
I think I've found my new Vintage Story UA-cam series 😂🎉
Oh my pleasure! There's 60 videos so far, possibly more if my community continues to vote for me to play it
If this was my game I would have used a voxel mesh grid like 7 days to die rather than the cube based voxel game genre.
The game allows for a wind powered hammer, so close, but not quite water. There might be mods for water powered hammers, however!
i believe its also on humble bundle as well.
Cool!
His looks like the game I always wanted minecraft to be
Perfect!
6:08 for gameplay
Yup yup

*first bits of Megalovania play*
That the song?
This is a super awesome game!
Indeed
Fascinating
I am glad you think so
What kind of ramifications of rebinding sneak and sprint?
I've done that each playthrough and have never noticed anything
The only real ramification is that if people are referencing how to do certain things in the game you'll have to remember whatever key combos they are referencing are backwards for you if you rebind, which can be confusing
HOLY CRAP HYTALE IS RELEASED IN 2016 AND WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT HAHAHAHAHA
?
@@Rhadamant bro it's a joke about hytale. Sadge you didn't understand.
Love this game. so fun.
Indeed!
I've seen people do that thing at 10:30 where they quickly distribute items in their crafting grid, how do I do that?
Left click and hold and drag the item around the crafting grid :)
Thank you @milleka3504 for answering correctly!

looks like terraformacraft kinda modpack brought into an independent game
More or less
Wish i could try this so bad, 20 dollars is steep though. I'll have to just spend it if it looks worth it enough to me
I've now played it for like 100+ hours so its a pretty good cost for time investment I think
Id be happy if whoever made this finds a way to being it to consoles. I'd totally play it!
Oh that'd be neat!
@@Rhadamant yeah that'd be the best!
You can also use obsidian for tools

If I could turn off the drifters completely, I’d still be playing. Now, and when I’m 80. But, mooooan mooooan moooooan constantly. Can’t handle it.
I mean can't you just turn drifters off?
@@Rhadamant not that I could find. Nor was there a mod to do it. It’s been 6 mos since I looked though. I can make then non aggressive. But they keep spawning and moaning. I just want to build, farm, smelt, smith, hunt, etc. w/o moaning monkeys on my back 😂
In the game setup settings just turn creature hostility from aggressive to never hostile or passive, no mods needed. @@Kidge.6081

Man, I wonder how much money they're missing out on, by not having the game on Steam.

Not gonna lie minus the eldritch horrors and magic of this game, this gives me TerraFirmaCraft vibes.
Aye indeed!
I'd play this over Terrafirmacraft but only for the performance. TFC plus unfortunately still works on an ancient Minecraft version and runs at glacial frame rate with heavy stutter. :(
Ouch! I never played TFC myself
@@Rhadamant the project forked and the other fork is utilizing a much later version, and so performance is probably much better. Shame, as I prefer the older fork for gameplay mechanics reasons.
Oh yay!
Enjoy =]
What graphic settings are you using? The game runs too smooth considering the way it looks
I have a high end PC that stutters on Very/Ultra high settings
Highest
this game remind me of minecraft modpack: sevtech ages and terrafirmapunk/terrafirmacraft pure nostalgic of houndreads of hour playing it
I've heard that plenty, having never played any of those mods packs I can't comment on that though
I normally swap crouch and sprint if they are ctrl shift cause of muscle memory shift being sprint would that work for this game?
Swapping them will work just know that any time anyone references keys for either sprint or sneak you've reversed them =]
this is very much like the mod auto terrafirma craft for minecraft. It's a very hard mod.
I wouldn't know I've never played modded Minecraft
please, please pick a different font for the twitch stuff. Thanks for the video though
What do you mean, the current priority font?
I would buy this game if it was on steam. I don’t trust websites like that
Okay
After playing more than 80 hours in Vintage Story I no longer like hearing it compared to Minecraft. It’s soooo much better and sooo much more. Their only similarity is that they’re both block type games although Vibtage Story is a true Voxel game and doesn’t depend on Java.
'Better' is an opinion, but with that said, on its surface it may look similar but under the hood its very different.
Damn.. here i thought this was just a minecraft copy with more graphics...
Step aside my 350 moded minecraft... im gonna get a game that doesnt need any mods yet offeres way more!
Aye !
