I realize I'm commenting on an older video (a VOD, even), but I just wanted to say I'm glad to see Vintage Story taken up by a larger channel. This game needs more exposure, because it really is a great labor of love by the developer.
Oh lord I am not a larger channel, I'm just a dude who plays awesome indie games for the most part, but I too am very glad my community voted for this one.
@@Rhadamant Hey, don't sell yourself short! ;) You've hit the 6-figure mark. the despawn rate of items was way too fast, in my opinion. I get that the game needs to limit entities lest it just bloat into crashes, but man, that was unforgiving.
@@Rhadamant I guess you already know this now, but death de-spawn is a server setting that is defaulted to 10 IRL minutes. Love the series so far. I feel for you man, tough break. The bear spawns could be turned down 50% or more imo. In my current game there is a bear every 500 yards or so and they aggro from a good distance off. You could not beat me hard enough to run through thick, deep woods. To be beary safe I stay to areas with good visibility to spot them in advance. Armor, weapons & a shield helps but you have to have them first. 🐻🐻❄
@@Rhadamant it seems, the despawn timer is 10 minutes - you can choose to keep your inventory on death, but that feels cheesy; for Minecraft, we made a gravestone mod to keep your inventory from despawning, which seems fair - because camped by bears it is hard enough to make your way back.
On your discussion about how the long projects might not be seen in this series, I had an idea (if you haven't already, given theres weeks of episodes to go). The idea is the voting has 2 parts, the usual periodic one, and occasionally a "major project". Where, at your discretion (rather than periodically), you put up a vote for possible major projects viable over the next 3-10 episodes (or however long), things where you'll gradually work towards them along side the periodic stuff. Those projects might be taming as you mentioned, maybe building a farm, or even just something like building up a bigger base / defences, etc. And the nice thing about having both, is some episodes the votes might line up and have the goals of the period vote and the major project and so that whole episode can be working towards it :) Its up to you how you run the series, just thought it would be nice to be able to explore the bigger stuff if possible
I do like how you upload your streams so that those of us who have bad schedules can watch. I've really been curious about this one, makes me want to get it now.
Animals in this game seem overly aggressive. I live somewhere with black bears, not grizzly bears admittedly, but in my experience they're pretty docile and out of the dozen or so I've met almost all ran away and one growled and stood up at me but didn't attack
Ah, getting mauled while hauling a bunch of goodies is super frustrating. I had the same thing happen in minecraft right after I managed to get a diamond pickaxe with a high level fortune enchantment. Couldn't find my body and it despawned. Might have let out a few cuss words.
