  • This past weekend's Edwards vs Muhmmad fight card we saw a couple of spectacular straight right hand finishes. The overhand right has many highlight real KO's to it's name as well. But which version of the right hand should you throw? How do you throw a straight right and an overhand right? When do you throw them? Stay tuned as my bro Sweet T and I answer those questions for you!

Your due bro. EVERYONE else in the top 5 has gotten to fight up in they're last two fight EXCEPT you, and they tried to feed ya to the young wolves twice & you took both them dudes to kickboxing school!!! Usman has beat up everyone else in the top 5, it's your shot bro. Your the only one taking on up-n-comers. Just give my boy the shot. Keep up the good content WB, we all appreciate it.

So that "palm outward" hook (also known as the Russian casting punch, or in traditional karate, _furi uchi)_ is definitely unconventional, but it was also Fedor's specialty and helped him win a lot of fights. At least in Goju-Ryu karate, you're supposed to flick your wrist as you whip your arm, bending your big knuckles towards your opponent's head and going rigid upon impact. It's a very snappy and surprisingly stiff blow when delivered correctly. At mid range, it can loop around your opponent's guard slightly better than a conventional hook, and unlike conventional hooks, it can still be used at long range as you can throw and land it with a straightened arm. However, at close range in traditional karate applications, it's meant to be a rabbit punch aimed at the back of your opponents head, which is obviously a no-no for MMA.
So what Fedor used to do was use it as a sort of "option select" (fighting game nerds know what I'm talking about). At distance, he used it exactly as I described: a long-ranged hook that could do big damage and sneak around defenses. At close range, however, he used it to collapse into a clinch, as his hand would already be in position for an S-grip, so he could deftly glide into a very solid over-under body lock and let his godlike Sambo do the rest. Also, the way it's thrown naturally causes your arm and shoulder to rise up to protect your chin, and allow you smoothly slip to the side if you whiff. So it was a punch that could do multiple jobs and adapt regardless of the range it was in, which was vintage Fedor, one of the most versatile fighters of all time.
Disclaimer: I am not saying that Fedor was a karateka, nor am I saying that the casting punch and _furi uchi_ are the exact same strike. I'm just saying that they're very similar and thus can have similar applications.

@@qasim1590 good luck and the way i train it was with a double end bag so i would not be hesitant to close the distance also i drilled a lot of head movement to complement the karate distance managment style cos im only 5,7 and a takedown tends to be the gameplan so i use wide stance to find the oportunity then narrow to box, clinch and takedown/throw.

Chuck Liddel had one of the best overhand punches Ive ever seen. Like the WB kick's are often imitated but never as good. I honestly believe if you can keep Usman at distance you can take his strap . Hopefully Dana gives you the shot , it seems guy's are scared of you as a match up.

Stephen! Hey man, I just saw your interview with Submission Radio and you said you hadn’t heard anything from the UFC or anyone else about fights. I know everyone likes you because you’re the NMF lol, but man you really need to to call someone out and talk some trash. The UFC knows that what really sells fights is the story. I don’t think this is selling out. It’s just part of the game. Come on man, throw some serious shade at Colby and let’s make this fight happen! lol
