In a visit to South Africa a few years ago i found myself only a one hour flight from the Zulu battle fields. Not to miss such a chance I flew to Durban and meet our guide for the next three days.
On the way to our hotel our guide turned of the road and started down a dirt track. The crop was so high you could see nothing from the car windows. I was getting a little nervous as i had know idea where he was taking my wife daughter and I. After 5 minutes or so we came to a clearing in the crop. There was a Hundred or so graves kept in a very tidy state. Each was marked HERE LIES THE BODY OF A BRAVE BRITISH SOLIDER. I will never forget the chill it gave me as long as I live. God bless and rest in peace boys.

An American born in Canada of Canadian and British ancestors. I am proud of my mother's grandpa. He was a sgt. in the 16th regt. of foot (Bedfordshires). He was posted to Halifax during the American Civil War as a safety measure against a possible attack by the U.S. over the
Trent Affair. My dad's grandpa was a sgt. in the 72nd regt. (Seaforth Highlanders). He was posted to Afghanistan and participated in the
Kabul to Kandahar march to raise the siege of Kandahar in 1879.

There’s a great version of this song in the Australian made movie “ Breaker Morant” with Edward Woodward singing.
It's a very good film. It asked alot of questions about the behaviour of troops on campaign and whether or not in this instance Morant was a war criminal or if he did his duty .
When soldiers faced courts martial there fate was almost predetermined this highlighted during ww1 when the British Army executed 306 British and commwealth troops.
This is in fact the version sung by Edward Woodward.

Yes, I am of partial British (Scottish and Northern Irish among other things) ancestry so I decided to add lots of Scottish regiments in this video. To me the line "England's soldiers of the queen" is "Britain's soldiers of the queen", as it encompasses the 4 main groups of the British isles who fought united for king and country.
@@imperialglory I am Scottish and moved to Belfast and joined a Northern Irish squadron of the Royal Army Medical Corps. As a Corps man we did our training in Pirbright as all Corps chaps do. A mixture of RAMC, RE, RAMC, RLC etc. What a great bunch of folk. The irony was being a Scot in a Northern Irish unit "Haggis dude" was my inevitable nickname lol even though most of their surnames sounded more Scottish than mine I was the genuine article lol. Anyway I love tune and song great memories and what a day that was after very hard 3 weeks training before going back to Ballykinler.

Back then, the British Empire was more often than not called the English Empire. And for good reason, since England was the one who was in charge of the whole British Isles (Ireland included). Rivals like France and Germany called Britain England, and her soldiers English, despite the presence of Scots Welsh and Irish.
The reason why the Scots make such good soldiers is very simple. Scots only have two settings, pissed off and let's get the bastards. As far the Irish well they love a good brawl and a chance to loot. That's the Viking legacy. Glad both make up my background!

However, that’s because of the U.S. This is because people are either forced to speak English because they do wish to, or have lived, in the U.S. they come here for opportunities and this drives people from all the way around the world to learn English. This is also caused by the internet. About 50% of the whole internet is in English. From movies to UA-cam videos, many of which, are U.S made. This is also because of trade and the fact that the US dollar is the world currency. Obviously, U.K has credit for “creating” the language, it’s not the most internationally spoken language because of them.

Wherever English is spoken as the main or one of the official languages is still basically part of the Empire, like it or not. Stuff political correctness (otherwise called an inability to think logically), but let us also not forget the huge debt we, and the rest of the world, owe to Greek civilisation.

As with all soldiers, through time, they fought for their country, as they were bade. I have always respected the sense of duty and pride and tradition, as much as for any Service whose people love their freedom.
I recognize that Queen Victoria oversaw the expansion such that the sun never set ovef the British Empire, and I proudly honour the other long-reiigning Queen, Elizabeth II, who quietly oversaw the relinquishing to independence, of so many lands and territories.
We live, we learn, we amend our views of autonomous rights of the various peoples of the world, and by experience, we humbly acknowledge how much of our own progress we owe to others. But for all of our deeds which may now be regarded as mistakes, let that not detract from the valour of those who then did, and now do, and future shall, pledge all to their land and their people and their monarch.
I daresay Charles III would not stint the honour of the late departed, and still would regard them as soldiers of the Queen.
