Sadly, I don't let my ebike out of my sight. Even if locked there is nothing to protect from people (usually kids) who get enjoyment out of ruining other people's property when no one's watching just to get a laugh. An ebike is a much better target than my mailbox...It can be ruined with a few quick kicks or a single blow from a rock to the plastic battery case no bat needed. And I live in the rural Kansas five mile from the nearest town of only 10,000. If I was back in LA I'd really be paranoid, because had two regular bikes stolen there from bicycle racks at schools I attended and they both had locks with very heavy chains.
Hi I was wondering if you had any 2020 BOLTON ELECTRIC FAT BIKE - 750 WATT large frame in stock in black. Or do you have something that is similar that goes 25+ mph in black around that price range. Thanks 😊
guess my other comment on the Class 4 was spot on ? longer distances and 2000+ watts of power to throw to the Bafang Ultra w a Phaserunner 90 amp Variable controller
Tile sticker can help you recover it just hide it good. The battery lasts three years. If someone who has the tile app gets within 100 feet of it after you report it stolen you instantly get a location.
@@thetruth6585 What is a tile sticker exactly and what is its normal use? I assume it's some kind of GPS tracking device. If so, where would you get one from and what do they cost?
I use 2 Kryptonite New York chain 15mm 15 lb (each chains) and a another U-lock (with a different keyway type). 2 motion alarms (1 hidden and 1 bike horn), Pinheads locks (seat post, head cap and both axles), GPS tracker and seat post cable 19mm. Also replaced All bolts with 'security head bolts'. I added a hidden 'RFID start/kill switch'. I Remove battery and place it in 'trumpet bag', so battery with me. Am a Locksmith, re-keyed all locks.
Honestly someone needs to make a 360 bike camera that is metal and can’t be broken easily at all that will take pictures and video of the thief and notify the police and also have a siren at affordable price
As a grocery worker, if you do leave your bike in the store, do like he said and make sure you can see it at all times. We've had people literally grab a bike from inside the store and walk out, right in view of the cameras.
I have watched several videos testing bike locks. No one has actually done the tests under ALL of the following conditions. 1. Use portable grinder popular with thieves. 2. Include in the tests the time to change out blades and batteries on the portable grinders. In real life that time would add to cutting the locks. 3. Locking the bike locks in a more realistic scenario wrapping the rear wheel, frame and bike rack. 4. Additional second or third lock wrapping around front wheel, frame and bike rack. 5. Steps to take if you encounter thief while in progress.
make sure to watch it good if leaving it inside the store at the front door! And watch for sketchy people that is looking around like they are lost or trying to distract people to a different direction (team shoplifters sometimes try to distract employees to a different area). I seen it happen, this guy left his bike inside the store by the door, I wasn't paying to much attention to who's bike it was but actually remembered some kind of color he was wearing when I passed by him. I sitting in my truck in the parking lot and seen some guy take the bike right out the store and seen the direction he was going, and I still wasn't paying to much attention of what was going on. A few minutes later I see the owner of the bike looking around lost and I just instantly thought "oh some guy just went riding that way". I ran and told that to the bike owner. 10-15 minutes later I see the bike owner with his bike. He recovered it.
@@consaka1 You'll find them under motorcycle disc locks. Pin locks through one of the holes in your brake disc and usually they have an alarm when there's a certain amount of motion to the bike.
Interestingly enough, with regard to 'theft' in our city, there was a video taken of a guy using a grinder in the middle of our largest city, trying to get a lock off, which was attached to a pole encased in concrete. People where walking by on the sidewalk, as this guy had sparks flying in all directions, occasionally looking in his direction. One person asked what he's doing, and he said he lost the key to his lock! Then someone else said, we'll I've dialled 911 and the police are on their way to make sure this really is your bike!! He continued with grinding for another minute or two...where he then left with his grinder, grabbing another bike he had behind a short wall, and then took off! Thus, to say having more than 'one' choice of lock, is probably your best bet, in that if no one ever called the authorities the time it would take the thief (along with an alarm going off) 'should' be enough for the thief to try for an easier target! Of course getting video of these thieves is helpful too, if you see it happening to someone else's e-bike/bike.
having video doesnt matter in boston. i had one of guy cuting and walking away with it into the T. he was go in literally 20seconds. i went in to lock gate to jpb site.
Here in Seattle and Tacoma the police don’t care if your bike gets stolen. The patrol officers and the dispatchers don’t want to be bothered. Good Luck with 911.
What I've learned from watching The Lock Picking Lawyer is that a good, pick resistant lock is one where he has to use one of his special tools. If it can be picked with just a tensioner, a pick or a "rake", then that end of things is pretty secure. The next is cutting the device. His video showed that particular Kryptonite is very good in that regard. I don't know what kind of lock it uses though.
The lock picking lawyer seems to hold kryptonite as a brand in quite a higher regard then other companies so I’ve generally decided to go with their brand in most applications nowadays
Here in UK (no guns allowed) when I'm riding my bike on remote moorland I've got a bumbag with tools/pump/mobile etc.. Oh, what's that, just dropped out...an extending baton. Honestly don't know HOW that got in there (officer)...? :-)
I'm a nation wide retired industrial boiler technician and I 'm new to the e- bike business I have been doing a lot of research for e-bikes and found your channel to be the most honest, and informative , so I bought one of your bikes today and now I will take your advice for the best lock . Thanks for all the good work you put into your channel and hope you enjoy it as much as I do .
that why I use 4 different kind kryptonite bicycle lock for my fat tire ebike and also a bike alarm, I know its a bit over kill, I look at this way the more lock on my bike the less likely the thieves want to mess with it and go after much easier bike to steal, plus that I'm the only in my town has an ebike
I have a Lectric XP. I use a folding lock and take my seat with me. Main problem is actually securing the bike to something as it does not have a traditional diamond frame to create an enclosed space to pass the lock through. Fortunately, there is a "handle" like thing on the downtube. Would need to use a heavy chain to actually get the wheel as well as the frame.
A few years late, but it was nice to see you using LPL as a reference for lock security, that being said, as far as picking goes, I'd bet a pretty penny that there isn't a bike thief that has half the lock knowledge he does, meaning if it takes him more than a minute to pick a lock, it will more than likely take your average criminal several minutes, they are more likely to destroy the lock rather than pick it
You covered some good points; and the L.P. Lawyer is of course a must....however, you showed the link-lock as the lock you'll be carrying on your bike - that lock is better than ANY cable, and arguably better than some chains...that said, a bolt cuter at one of the rivets will compromise the lock... "You have to draw that line." The best lock "by weight" too "security" is a chain lock. A chain is NOT a chain. It MUST be 3T triple heat treated boron Manganese steel WITH "6 sides" per link... Not joking. The "6 sided" link for instance, makes the link that much harder. So, each link super strong , there is NO weak-point at the rivet. And even though these are already good reason, the important reason reason why a chain is superior is that it doesn't stay still! If youre trying to cut it, it moves around... You can't grab a-hold of it like a u-lock, or even the lock you have there with the rivets, in order to cut it. It simply "Wiggles around" like jello in comparison to anything else when trying to cut it. Now make sure you buy a strong lock comprable to the chain and don't attach it to something else that could be cut easier than the chain. More over, put a tracker on the bike; these days and apple tag or the Android version works great. Best place to put the tag would be inside the the stem, the end of the stem where the 4 bolt hold the bar to your bike, or in the bottom bracket, which is where your pedals go, if you can get to that part. And or, finally, inside the actual Tire itself. If you run a tubeless tire, it's easiest to put the tag inside the Tire and the Wheel. Or in second place, just between the tire and the tube. Final thought. If for some reason you take a bike, any bike, on the front of the bus rack, make sure you lock the bike to the bus tracker. They'll steal the bicycle off the front of the bus and run just like they will do anywhere else. So even if you're standing on the bus looking at the bicycle, still make sure you put a lock on the bicycle. And still MORE, carry a TASER. These people will Jack-you for the bike directly. FINALLY, don't leave your ID on the bicycle someplace so that if they steal the bicycle, they don't also now have your address!
Can you share stats with me for the 90% ? I’m trying to tell people this, and they always say the same shit “ if they want your bike, they’re getting it”-- like yes I know. But with proper locking you can drastically reduce chances
I ride a Walmart mountain bike with a conversion kit on it. I keep 2 d-locks at my usual parking spot and use a cable lock as well for a total of 3 locks running through the most valuable components.
Anti-theft alarms offer some additional security, they are a must have for an expensive ebike. Thieves do not like to attract attention to their crimes, and my 110 decibel alarm going off would likely attract a LOT of attention.
Short Kryptonite to lock back wheel to frame, and then a long Kryptonite to lock front wheel and frame to something solid has been my go to so far, wish they would make some extra wide U-locks for fatbikes that were atleast semi secure tho.
I’m new to ebikes, so shopping has been insanely complicated for me; thank You, thank You for making these videos. You’ll never know how much help You’ve provided to this ignorant girl and, (hopefully), soon to be ebike owner!
Think about putting a gps device on your bike so incase it gets stolen you can get it back and "have a nice talk" with the thief ;) Some of the gps devices are even disguised as a rear light
That is the EXACT lock that I use. The 5 ft. one gives you plenty of length but is very heavy (almost 10 lbs). It works great. As far as the ability of this guy, this is what he DOES! The tool he uses was created by him to do just what he is doing.
Same here, love the chain. The only modification I've added is a motion alarm on the chain and one on the bike. They're cheap on Amazon and I'm a paranoid guy .
@@Sup-jz2ow That's an interesting idea. What category are they listed in so I don't have to spend an hour searching alarms (not like I don't have the time with "stay at home"!
@@larrywhite6298 the ones I use are smile.amazon.com/dp/B0734QN8KR/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_4vhKEb0H3TRQX You can link them to respond to one remote. The chain is thick enough so that it'll take quite a while to cut, the alarms are just to farther discourage tampering and notify me if anyone decides to go for it. Alarm on the chain is to make sure something sounds as soon as they touch the chain (unless you wrap the chain tightly an alarm on the bike might not detect vibrations on the chain) and the one on the bike is for when they move the bike to get a better angle on cutting the chain and incase they cut off the first alarm.
talking about key blanks. I used to deliver RV's from the manufacturers in northern IN to dealers around the country. All trailers that used a standard key for the side compartments were the same. this went across all brands. Trailers that used a round key, like what a soda vending machine would use were the exception. At one Freightliner trucks only had 5 different keys for all their trucks
Not an instructional video. But still very informative and smart. The lock picking lawyer's videos are far more matter of fact and practical. His videos are excellent. #1 best way to prevent theft is to never allow anyone the opportunity in the first place. But not everyone can do that. If you must leave your ebike unattended for any amount of time, you will definitely want to watch the lockpicking lawyer pick, shim and use excessive force to defeat almost every lock and technique. So you know which products and strategies are useful and effective, and which are garbage.
If you have no key or lost the key. you can very easily make another key fit. And it will work & no other key will work for it. All you need to do is remove barrel. Insert any key what fits inside. File or grind the tumblers until they all level.
1. Just bring your battery with you. 2. lock rear wheel to frame and to immovable object. 3. Motion alarms are dirt cheap and super touchy 4. Air tag that sucker. Glad this video focused just on the e-bike specific stuff.
Kyle, thanks for the helpful video. Great advice on taking bikes in when you can. I suggest taking the seat even if you have a bolt on collar. I have had good success with a quality U-lock and long cable where you can snake it around both wheels. That new fat bike does have a Terminator look to it, I like it!
Hi, I feel that you did one good thing and that is using a blank key if needed, but mentioning on here helps them who still ebikes. I use two locks every time. I also have a blast sound if ebike is touched a slight move, wind no issue yet. People hated my sound, but me I love it, anything to help keep taken. Thanks again!
Forgot one very important thing: Lock your bike to something! One common method of bike theft is to just toss it in a car or van and get the locks off later. Always lock to something....
Lock to a shopping cart 🛒 if you’ve got nothing else to lock too.Going to kind of tough loading that bike with a shopping cart locked to it.Not impossible but damn harder than just the bike alone
Get a U-lock that is at least 18mm thick like the Kryptonite fahgettaboudit mini, this lock cannot be removed with a bolt cutter, but the other most important thing is an alarm that can TEXT you when the bike is disturbed so that you can get to it before anything can happen, time is the most critical factor!
That would be pretty cool to have the alarm TEXT YOU. that is a SMART IDEA!!. even if multiple people touch it, and it was out of curiosity, at least the thief will know that you are being alerted some how and they will CANCEL THE THEFT!!. I have never heard of an alarm that can text you if alarm is disturbed, and it be nice if it works 2,000 feet away, without the need of actual cell phone service. it will just attach to your PHONE, or internet phone letting you know something is disturbing the ALARM. that is a smart way, that will make a lot of people less paranoid of leaving their bike un attended for a certain amount of time, and thieves will just not even bother. And they need to make (E-BIKES) fall under the CAR LAWS. Car laws in my STATE?, are very SERIOUS. a guy/neighbor is doing 10yrs right now for car theft. that was back in 2017 and the landlord evicted the entire family. I live in a respected neighborhood my landlord is a BILLIONAIRE, he's not PLAYING NO GAMES has tons of properties in 30 different states. 😮 My state is BRUTAL with (CAR THEFT LAWS). they need to add that to (E-BIKES) since they can range over $1k $20k plus dollars. if no laws pass?, than like I always say?, the politicians are siding/COMPLICITY with the CRIMINALS. so they need to show LOYALTY to me as a TAX PAYER I pay for their BILLS, so they can eat cake, and LOBSTER at their favorite restaurants. 🤷♀🤬🤬
I use 3 locks on my bike, a flat lock like you see in the beginning of this video, and a U lock as well as a cable. As well I have an alarm hidden on the bike. Have to when you live in the city. But I also am very picky where I will leave my bike locked up.... Plus the flat lock being on the top tube of my bike also works very well as a defense weapon. I had an instance where this guy literally tried to run me off the road and hit me, I caught him at a light and busted his window out on my way by.... to bad he was stuck at a light and couldn't pursue... All well, bet he may think twice about doing something stupid like that again.
They sell disk brakes and throttles with keyed locks. Obviously the more locks you have on your bike the better. They also have alarms. You can also cut off the seat post with a hinge and attach a retractable spear.
After watching the lock picking lawyer, I bought one of the Kryptonite U locks. If you watch his videos you will realise not many people that steal bikes have his ability to pick a lock and that most will just skip what looks like a good strong lock and instead go after the weaker locks that a lot of people that don't know any better have.
yesterday I saw a carbon road bike, looked about 5k judging by the components, it was locked by a simple cable lock that could be cut with bolt cutters.
I think instead of buying an expensive lock, it is better to buy multiple inexpensive but good locks and lock the bicycle at multiple points. That will be less tempting to the thieves to steal as it is secured with multiple locks and requires more time than cutting just an expensive lock. Also install some kind of alarm on the bike so that when someone touches it the alarm goes off and scare the shit out of any potential thief as the sound will draw peoples attention.
My aunts radpower bike has been stolen. Here in the Netherlands we call a blanc key a “mother key”. I was searching information about how to remove the battery without keys. Expecting that the bike would be totally useless for a thief. I can’t believe such an expensive bike comes with such a major security flaw. Thanks for your video it was really helpful!
I saw a motion sensing alarm on a UA-cam short for bikes. If the bike is moved, it starts beeping loudly which along with multiple locks should work great to deter thieves!
I,m 82 years old and am definitly in favor of allowing ebikes.on trails on BLM land. This is the only way I can physically access this beautiful back country of ours. Walter a dill d.d.s.
Okay so I liked and subscribed to your channel I appreciate your content. I have a question the displays that are not removable. Most videos I've watched never mentioned how to protect the display or what you can do for that particular part.
Like 15 lbs of locks??? That's where I like that I have motor-assist, but a shame that we have to haul around tons of hardware upon the chance we need to stop in someplace and be away from our bikes for a time. Before my e-biking days, I was a weight freak. The fact that I sacrificed to buy a nice, lightweight bike just to have to carry around 10 lbs of locks to deter theft made me sick. Eventually, you leave the locks ,cables and chains at home and just carry the bike on your shoulder and eat at food trucks or outdoor cafes. Not an option when your bike weighs 65 lbs.
@@jmel1746 I only take all the locks for my Juiced City Scrambler When I plan on being away from it (not often). I primarily use it for fun. For going to market etc. I use my older and less powerful cruiser.

Do you recommend folding down a foldable e bike before locking? Seems like a good idea as some people might not know how the heck to unfold it to ride away. Thanks for your videos!
The thieves must love this lock picking expert teaching them the trade. My bike has a kriptonite d lock and cable plus a hiplock gold plus an alarm cant do much else.
There's absolutely no point in having a lock if you end up being mugged for your electric bike. Anyone riding a bike worth thousands of dollars/pounds, is likely to be jumped. What's needed is a GPS tracker hidden on, or within, the frame. If, you do get it stolen, you can then find it on Google maps and go round to the scum bags house and introduce him to your homies and, also introduce his knees to your baseball bat 💪.
@@Brandon-ik6ty The police are garbage. They are not guaranteed to get anything back, let alone in one piece. WE, must directly protect ourselves, our properties, and by choice, each other. That is much more efficient & reliable.
@@Brandon-ik6ty I work very hard for everything I have, I will not tolerate those degenerates. I already know 2 people who got their ebikes stolen. One, right off his porch, the other, a courier like me, while he was inside picking up an order. Man on a scooter snatched it while riding by on the sidewalk. My ebike is my likelihood, tampering with or stealing it, is tampering with or stealing my life, that fully deserves a life threatening response. It doesn't matter what your life is, you don't steal from innocent hard working people. Especially those who themselves, are already struggling to survive. I have my own dreams to accomplish. Right now, if I lost my bike, I would be homeless. I have no issue putting a knife in someones neck to stop that.
I don't have a fancy seat BUT to stop casual meanies from making off with it I used one of the zip ties that was used for the packaging of the bike and looped that into the quick release so you need a exacto knife to release the seat.
I have gone with an Abus folding alarm lock, a U lock, a cable lock and an additional, cheap, motion alarm. All except the U lock attach to the frame for carrying. I expect most thieves will be put off by amount to cut and alarms going off at the same time. Still vulnerable so considering data dot protection.

I bought a lock on Amazon that I believe was made for motorcycles. It is a solid chunk of metal that just clips on a disc and sets off a car alarm if the bike is moved. It isn't efficient in itself but in conjunction with a good lock, at least they will have everyone, in earshot, looking at them while they try to remove the other lock.
Hey Kyle, good video. You covered pretty much the whole subject. In anticipation of getting my Blackbird I picked up a brake disk rotor lock that incorporates a 120 db alarm. Was this worth $ 25 of security? And I also got a seat taillight with an alarm with a clicker. These seem to be cheap and easy, so is this pretty good for a start?
It's funny that you said that… I just got an E bike a few days ago, and those are the exact two alarms that I also bought. I like the tail light alarm because nobody can walk up and tell that it's an alarm, and I think the disc brake alarm will detour thieves because they cannot just takeoff and ride. I have to admit, I'm more confident about these alarms than I am chains and cables and U-boats and such....But I have a fairly heavy chain to lock my bike up to a post or object, and I have a cable lock that I use for my front tire. I just got my bike put all together so I have not had a chance to use these yet, but I most certainly do not want my ebike stolen. I also always take my bike into the grocery store, and I quickly lock up my frame to the rear wheel with a cable lock… Only takes about three seconds, And will keep someone from jumping on and taking off on it (speaking of my nice road bike and mountain bike) I'm surprised with all of these videos I watch about security, none of them talk about the disc brake alarms, or the tail light alarm that you mentioned. The disc brake alarms are so inexpensive, that there's no reason to not have one, to help supplement bike security. So at any given time I can have my disc brake alarm, my chain, my cable lock, and my tail light alarm....Was not that much money for all of those items, and I would think these would make my ebike "harder" to steal at least
another tip is if you ask nicely inside the store ask security if you can put your bike at security desk most places here in uk will allow you do that it depends on the store
always worth investing in good lock i had mandioca lock before and bike was stolen the kryptonite lock in vid the new yorker is one i use now thing is really tough
For the seat use a crimped 1/8 coated cable. I go into Home Depo buy the cable and crimps and borrow their crimping tool (they usually have one there so ask). Leave enough slack so you can pull out the seat. Seat thieves usually don't have tool and this system allows you to adjust the seat height.
You could also hide something like an Apple Airtag on it to try and improve the chances of getting it back. Or to check that it is still where you left it.
The 28 likes and counting are from all the hoodlums you just taught how to easily rip off RAD battery packs! I'd truthfully consider taking this video down. Seriously. RAD owners like me love your stuff and give you lots of business, sharing your videos with family and friends who also ride a RAD. . A better approach would be to call Mike Radenbauer - RAD customer service and tell them about the vulnerability, NOT post a video telling THE WORLD how to nab $500 batteries!
I agree with you 100% on this. It's irresponsible to just post this without letting viewers know if he has contacted Rad Power Bikes about a potential flaw in their keys locks. Does this flaw still exist in the latest Rad Bike models? I realize Bolton E-Bike wants to be a serious competitor to Rad but this is really a bad way to do it. Really poor judgment.
Really? The most basic of mechanical understanding makes those battery locks vulnerable. As locks they are on par with a bathroom door lock not a front door dead bolt. Even if each one had its own unique key you should not trust the lock to protect your battery. ALWAYS take the battery with you!
This is NOT new, and if you were on RAD bike forums you would know this has been discussed for months, I bought a couple of those blanks so I could put away my OEM keys. Never leave your battery on the bike if it is out of sight as I am sure just about EVERY bike thief with his eye on a RAD knows it.
Good information"Bolton"concerning the catastrophic flaw concerning Rad power bikes (dummy key) solution for thieves looking for unguarded out door locked Radbikes. Rad is off my list permanently!
I combine key locker, hood, and alarm. If anyone touches the bike at all, that will be enough to make it sound. Then it's just a matter of parking in places with people.
I always park my bike around (PEOPLE). location, location, LOCATION!!. I never park the bike in a back alley location or in dark places. GPS tags and insurance can be your friends also. Insurance to fully cover you and your bike usually cost about 75/year for a couple thousand dollar ebike.
Tips: lock the front wheel to the frame and always lock the frame to an object. Front wheel theft is common too. Try to avoid quick release on anything. Thief can't get the whole bike, how about the front wheel or the seat or the battery? In a University town anywhere, never leave a bicycle for a longer period of time.

I have three e-bikes and one of them I really like and it gets three locks on it if I leave it unattended. I have a mini e-bike, and two 26" mountain e-bikes... one with fat tires at four inches wide and one with normal 26" x 2.125 inch mountain bike tires. Any way... more locks the more time it takes and with that I spend less than fiftenn minutes in a store because each lock would take five minutes each to break by a professional thief so keeping my time in a shop or whatever less than the time a professional can take to steal it... that works... LOL! For my best e-bike... the other two I can live life okay if one got stolen but each has seasonal purpose so not being gone would always be better for the e-bikes I have. Any way... wish you the best and thanks for the video and interesting how one key could unlock every battery on that one bike... no matter what as long as it was a blank key... that is ridiculous on the manufacturers part so taking the lithium ion battery is wise since on my bikes that are a minimum of 250 US Dollars to replace just one... giving batteries away isn't a great idea either or riding home without a seat to think about it and I have extra seats but getting one stolen... well not my idea of a good day for a seat either... so taking a quick release seat with me into a store or such is a good idea since I lost my left leg below the knee in 2018 and don't feel like standing on pedals with a leg amputation as well... LOL! Did make me laugh thinking about that... I would be very pissed if my seat was stolen... probably more so than a battery but with out the battery the hills in my area would be a killer... so any way always something to "protect" but makes me laugh how life works... as WWII Veterans called it... SNAFU... "tuation Normal All F'ed Up"! LOL! Never ends... might as well laugh and make it difficult for the A-Holes out there that are thieves... when you can. I know they would not to meet me when I loose my cool... I'm worse than any A-Hole when I am pissed off and dangerous to them and myself... LOL! But I've been cut in half twice and lost a left leg so I guess normal for me... wish all of you the best and thanks for the video and the laughs... about A-Hole thieves and the A-Hole isn't where keys fit too well... isn't how to release the lock mechanism... but anger issues I guess can be released with A-Holes... a stinky locking situation and I have to laugh at my own stupid joke. Later and thanks...
I haven't gotten my battery yet so I haven't assembled my e-bike kit, but I'm going to be using the updated lobster lock in combination with a kryptonite cable. I'll also be equipping the bike with a sensitive alarm that will screech at 113db if the bike is so much as nudged. EDIT: Just to test, I went and tried it out since I'm at home, the cable is long enough to loop around my back tire, through the loop under the seat to keep that from being stolen, and has enough leftover length to wrap around a tree or thicc pole before hooking onto the lobster lock. Once I have the alarm, the e-bike should be safe enough to leave locked up while I run an errand inside a store or something.
My eBike is not a fat tire. It's a 27.5 Diamondback hardball with a bafang BBSHD. I had a u-lock w/cable and a bar long both "Via Velo". In less than 20 minutes they took the handlebars, the (pogo stick/box store) fork and seat with post. Wheels still there though the color dash and of course the brake levers w/cutoffs gone
I like the Abus lock with the motion sensing alarm, but its SO EXPENSIVE! This is a subject I am very interested in. I'm kinda peeved right now because you just threw the thousands of us owning RAD bikes under the bus. Now every goon knows how to easily RIP off my bikes. I use my bikes to run errands and bringing my bike into the supermarket or drugstore isn't an option. From this point on, even after I buy that uber expensive Abus, I'll have to A) lock my bike to something sturdy B) quickly enter said store and grab a cart or basket C) Return to bike, unlock $500 battery, remove my suspension seat post and toss them into the cart along with my helmet. Gee, thanks for making life easier! Don'tcha just love the internet?
You can always toss a cable lock through the saddle rails (or suspension post if it allows, the ThudBuster LT does) locking it to the bike. As to batteries I don't care what locking mechanism it comes with ALWAYS take the battery with you.
@@Area13ebikes Your Sarcasim does nothing to inspire confidence in your integrity. Sorry that you have taken this approach. It may not matter to you but I don't like your attitude or approach.
I use a sneaky little trick to secure my bike if I'm just going into a building for a few minutes. I use a gunlock around a few spokes and a piece of the frame. If someone tries to ride off, they'll have better luck carrying it. 😅 At worst, I'll have to replace a spoke or two, and touch up the paint.
How are you securing your ebike now?
Bolton Ebikes I use 2 heavy duty U locks. One has a medium thickness cable to keep wheels and seat attached. I also pull the battery off of my ebike
Thanks 😊

I guess ur security lock on your e-bike is a way far more expensive than your e-bike.
...and now my bike weighs 150 lbs.
too much weight
Honestly someone needs to make a 360 bike camera that is metal and can’t be broken easily at all that will take pictures and video of the thief and notify the police and also have a siren at affordable price
As a grocery worker, if you do leave your bike in the store, do like he said and make sure you can see it at all times. We've had people literally grab a bike from inside the store and walk out, right in view of the cameras.
especially since face covers came to fashion lately
In addition to locks, I highly recommend brake-rotor-motion-alarm-locks. They're cheap and effective when used in conjunction with other methods.
Where do you find those. Never seen one.
@@consaka1 Amazon! I have one. It has a wire that you attach to your handlebars to remind you to remove it before you ride.
Interestingly enough, that exact video came to mind while watching this one.
having video doesnt matter in boston. i had one of guy cuting and walking away with it into the T. he was go in literally 20seconds. i went in to lock gate to jpb site.

Here in Seattle and Tacoma the police don’t care if your bike gets stolen. The patrol officers and the dispatchers don’t want to be bothered. Good Luck with 911.
Imagine that thieving little bastard running around the corner to make a getaway ,only to find his bike stolen. 😂
The lock picking lawyer seems to hold kryptonite as a brand in quite a higher regard then other companies so I’ve generally decided to go with their brand in most applications nowadays
bike thieves dont pick locks - it just dosnt happen.
When I ride with my wife, I stay outside with bikes while she goes in. AND I always conceal carry!

Gotta do what you gotta do
Me too have four locks for my ebike too, ordered a alarm for it too
It literally isn't "over kill". There are lots of videos that showing people taking angle grinders to bike locks in public during the day.
Sounds complicated, but whatever you can do to keep it safe.
The Flat folding lock has worked for me for 2 years on my e-bike..good for snatch and run theft which is 90% of how bikes git's stold.
Can you share stats with me for the 90% ? I’m trying to tell people this, and they always say the same shit “ if they want your bike, they’re getting it”-- like yes I know. But with proper locking you can drastically reduce chances
@seanogorman3617 a flat lock is nigger proof 100% of the time...they don't have bolt cutters.
Thieves do not like to attract attention to their crimes, and my 110 decibel alarm going off would likely attract a LOT of attention.
good Tip, thx!!
Thanks!
Short Kryptonite to lock back wheel to frame, and then a long Kryptonite to lock front wheel and frame to something solid has been my go to so far, wish they would make some extra wide U-locks for fatbikes that were atleast semi secure tho.

Think about putting a gps device on your bike so incase it gets stolen you can get it back and "have a nice talk" with the thief ;)
Some of the gps devices are even disguised as a rear light
That is the EXACT lock that I use. The 5 ft. one gives you plenty of length but is very heavy (almost 10 lbs). It works great. As far as the ability of this guy, this is what he DOES! The tool he uses was created by him to do just what he is doing.

You can link them to respond to one remote.
He just starting selling that tool,it sold out in 2 hours.
talking about key blanks.

Take up a parking spot and lock it to the pole if there is a pole
Get a U-lock that is at least 18mm thick like the Kryptonite fahgettaboudit mini, this lock cannot be removed with a bolt cutter, but the other most important thing is an alarm that can TEXT you when the bike is disturbed so that you can get to it before anything can happen, time is the most critical
factor!
My state is BRUTAL with (CAR THEFT LAWS). they need to add that to (E-BIKES) since they can range over $1k $20k plus dollars. if no laws pass?, than like I always say?, the politicians are siding/COMPLICITY with the CRIMINALS. so they need to show LOYALTY to me as a TAX PAYER I pay for their BILLS, so they can eat cake, and LOBSTER at their favorite restaurants.

There's absolutely no point in having a lock if you end up being mugged for your electric bike. Anyone riding a bike worth thousands of dollars/pounds, is likely to be jumped. What's needed is a GPS tracker hidden on, or within, the frame.
Can't imagine a store that would allow you to bring your bike in with you and keep it with you while you do your shopping. Seems like that would be a potential liability/injury risk for store owners.
Ask forgivness, not permission. The worst that happens is you get kicked out.
If you have all the bags on it to carry things you buy, just say it’s like your cart 🛒.
@@DaveE99 ... What a ridiculous notion on soooo many levels.
@@Chris-ic6bp it matters not how ridiculous it is but on how willing people are to actually confront you about it. people are conflict averse, as long as not causing harm, go for it.
@@DaveE99 ... l very much dislike your sense of entitlement, your willingness to do what you damned please unless and until someone confronts you, and your small mindedness that considers only YOUR interests to the exclusion of everyone else. The bike inside a store OBVIOUSLY presents an obstacle that is not designed into the intended parameters of safe useage: and presents risk of injury to other people, hap-hazzard navigation and poor traffic flow through aisles, and likely would be a no-go for any insurance provider providing coverage.
In short: you are a self- interested moron who can not even consider "the bigger picture" beyond his own wishes. You are not the 'Master of the Universe'.... and nobody should have to deal with your short-sighted view of the world.
Grow up!!!
What is the name of this lock?
I also always take my bike into the grocery store, and I quickly lock up my frame to the rear wheel with a cable lock… Only takes about three seconds, And will keep someone from jumping on and taking off on it (speaking of my nice road bike and mountain bike)
I'm surprised with all of these videos I watch about security, none of them talk about the disc brake alarms, or the tail light alarm that you mentioned.
Yep....me too.... but I bought three different types.... settled with the best one.... got stereo too
another tip is if you ask nicely inside the store ask security if you can put your bike at security desk most places here in uk will allow you do that it depends on the store
always worth investing in good lock i had mandioca lock before and bike was stolen the kryptonite lock in vid the new yorker is one i use now thing is really tough
I'm not shopping with my bike along with me.
Well...la dee da!
K. instead of me riding my bike i'm just going to carry it over my head and run down the street with it and just keep it with me.
Can you carry mine as well?
@@timhannigan9278 sure..why not lolol.
I'm sure they already know.... and aren't telling you.
As this info has been out in the wild for months and months I doubt if there is many thieves who are not aware of it.
And make sure you always carry a Camera body on you, you never know when you have to use your GUN. I carry, so I have a Camera to turn on or most times I have it on, incase there won't be no He said She said when bullets come flying out of my gun.
The Thief will have a terrible day because I won't be TALKING, there won't be no explaining to why you picking my lock I just start shooting. LoL I just dial 9-11 after I'm FINISH, that's why I took training defense classes. I didn't pay for training classes to pick up the phone to dial 911. every seconds count and thieves are getting bold, they have knives, or are in a group, don't give them the REASON. 🤷♀🤬🤬
@@magnetohex703 It's for phrases like that that I love living in europe.
You can go to the street beign damn sure no one is gonna shot you down. Because there are no guns.
Same as an old Ford with key code keys use a blank and worked
I got a LITELOC from Britain because the UA-cam videos shot it to be by far the MOST angle cutter resistant of any U type bile lock.
Yeeeaahh... this is a super AWESOME and very complete video!! Another design flaw, many battery bases (the bit that is attached to the bike frame) is made of plastic and can be flexed, like the Hailong battery case style, I can easily remove the battery from bike with just a butter knife or screwdriver. Love your work mate... BoltonPOWEEEEERRR
Hey Bruno! Thanks for watching. FYI - we need you as a guest on the Bolton Ebikes Podcast! What do you say?
So cool to find your channel...feeling the love.
Welcome aboard!
GPS tags and insurance can be your friends also. Insurance to fully cover you and your bike usually cost about 75/year for a couple thousand dollar ebike.
Ive ordered the Hiplok D1000 and will probably order a heavy duty chain and padlock too.
Video starts from 4:45
I had my Voltbike Yukon stolen from inside a bank.... literally parked under the cameras.. The one time I didn't lock it up (I forgot my keys) it happened so fast. I could see the bike but was in an appointment with my advisor. Constantly checking on it every 2 mins. Thiefs can make a FAST getaway on an Ebike! Always, ALWAYS lock your bike!
I just got my radrover fat tire ebike a week ago, and i use two ulocks on it one is the top abus ulock for bikes and the other is a kryptonite with protected cover chain ulock
LPL is probably in the top 10 lock pickers on the planet. I'm a long time subscriber to his channel. Subscribed to you just 'cause you mentioned him. Oh, plus I had my e bike nicked 'cause I had a crappy lock. Irony? just a bit. Got a new bike and lock that looks like what they used to shackle the Queen Mary in dry dock, as required by the insurance.
Thanks fella.
Ughhhh I hate bike thieves..a bike is basically a vehicle for some of us who can't afford a car or just rather ride to get around to avoid paying these high gas prices so if you get caught stealing a bike it should be considered grand theft Auto.. it's ridiculous how some of these bike thieves getting away with just a slap on the wrist these days smh..
Great info living in Berkeley the highest bike theft rate around , I agree dont leave it alone,I treat my like my
Opps like my kid clse and a sharp eye thx bro love your motivation.
That new bike looks fantastic, nice work
Thanks!
Appreciate the long rides
Thanks for the effort to make the homework for me .
I use 2 locks a combination and key lock for my ebike. I take my battery and seat post with me.
Kryponite Evolution is what I use on my Ebike. I also take it inside the store and park in just inside the door.
Cool!
@@Area13ebikes The stores where I go in do not allow that.
@@leojonkers3181 then dont do business in those stores
The bike you recommend for Arnold is really a great looking bike!
Can always change the quick release for the seat post to one of the security ones.
Reality check - the thieves already know and you were living blissfully.
Are you referring to the honest approach? As another commenter said, this has been circulating online for months. It's best to be aware of issues.
My seat and seat post doubles as a 12ga. Shotgun and yes I take it with me. Everyone thinks it's just a weird seat.
