Wow! When he played the supergroup clean I immediately recognized the tone of the early Sabbath instrumentals. It's just very unique, I've read somewhere that it's the output transformer that gives it this dark undertone. Very cool.
Being a Laney player myself, I really appreciate finally seeing someone play something else than Mesas or Peaveys. Too bad they discontinued the VH100R, though. Laney never made an another amp quite like it.
I just bought a white vinyl 10” Laney VC15-110 15-Watt tube amp yesterday from a broke friend. Loving it. Told him he could always buy it back for the $200 I gave him for it. Sounds ossum.
The IRT Studio is all tube but essentially the same. It sounds great, and has a USB interface too. Best of all, it has a dedicated reamp out line. I got mine for $300, which is the cost of some reamp boxes.
the SLS also has the reamp feature, but is missing the dynamics knob, really I don't know why anyone would buy the SLS over the studio, considering that the SLS is also way more expensive! The studio's are a great piece of gear, I miss mine.
Yeah 300w class D power section doesn't mean it should cost an arm and a leg, really not expensive, 300w are irrelevant, really not a valid argument. Typical marketing BS that is "ouhhh 300w that's why it's expensive !!!"
I got the IRT Studio 15 as well. Not so much for the High Gain metal tones, which it has in spades, But more for the flexibility of the preamp. The gain channels do nice overdrive tones too when dialled back (8 to 9 0clock'ish). Haven't explored much of the back panel goodies yet but I'm sure I will eventually...
I don't consider anything Laney a "metal sound", but they are GREAT sounding amps for a variety of genres from jazz to classic rock! I have a L5T-112 and it's a beautiful sounding beast!
I like Martin's playing. Most guys you see are shred-heads, but this guy is more about the feeling and the melody. Not very flashy but he makes up for it in feel. Edit: Checked his channel and he can definitely shred as well, but I dig this style. :P
Wow the amp sounds good and that guy is an incredible player but... where's them high-gain tones at? I was considering this amp for for a friend and was looking forward to hearing what it can do.
Have had the 120H for 5 years now. I'd describe it as extremely versatile, metal to the bone but not over the top. I mainly chose it because even on very high gain settings the individual notes while picking a chord (one string at a time) just sounds amazing.
I have the IRT15H for 5y now and It's a solid pice of equipment! I used it at home, for rehearsing and live and the Laney never failed me, sounds awesome, reacts very dynamic to your picking and is the most versatile one channel amp I ever played.
if you're looking for a good metal amp, forego this nonsense and get an epiphone ep-1. i payed $25 for mine at a local pawn shop and haven't looked back. get some emg pickups in your guitar and go to town. it's my secret weapon for metal sounds. of course this is just for recordings. it's not loud enough for shows on it's own. but for an angry sounding metal tone, i have yet to find better.
Why oh why do people subscribe to a channel, watch every video, and bitch the entire time and hate all over it? The ignorance always amazes me. Anyhoo, I digress. I love the channell, love the content, and am very grateful for you taking the time to help educate and demonstrate some great and some not so great gear. Keep up the good work, some of us really do appreciate it.
I don't see a place where one would honestly need more than 50W. Maybe in a gay bar, to impress alpha'ish males, with the talk of that pure, buttrattling power.
Another one of these type of amps Glen could try IMO is the Matrix VB 800. With a overdrive in the front it seems it can pull off that JCM 800 metal sound, but I have only found videos demoing it doing classic rock.
I would have liked to heard some metal, and it not being ran through an Axe FX. Do we have to buy a $1500 pedal to make that one sound good? Thanks for the gear review your awesome Glenn.
This is so freaking spooking, I was literally searching your archive yesterday to see if you had ever looked into these. I use an IRT Pulse (the little brother of this series), sometimes with the in the box 'Amp Emulation' if I want that 'Black Country' Metal tone... or with Lancaster Audio IR's to get some pretty convincing cab tones. Throw different pedals in front of the clean channels and you've opened yourself up to a world of tones. Tube amp clarity without an amp & loadbox in a bedroom/flat studio... it's the only way to go. (in my opinion!) I'm not endorsed by Laney, promise. (Although if you are from Laney and have jobs in the UK, hit me up!) :-D
The Ironheart SLS looks interesting but wished you had no delay on 'Glen you should of known better and made him turn off the frigging delay so we can actually hear what it sounds like" and maybe have tried a few of your tasty riffs with the in-built gain turned up and tried it with a distortion pedal as well. Good player though.
Hey dude! So with many thanks to you and your content, I've spent the past couple years practicing recording and mixing techniques. Some singing, too. I'm looking to start creating a (first) original album this year and was wondering if you've ever tracked a single person playing all of the instruments in the recording? Cheers!
I'd been thinking about the "actual" IRT Studio, but then I heard that the PRS MT15 amp was out and quickly forgot about Laney. Would you mind doing an hd demo of the MT while it makes it to the stores? Thanks Glenn!
Laney's are good if you play live and big venues. They're next to useless in a recording situation because you have to krank them beyond pain thresholds to get the most out of them. I had a Laney LH50 with a 4x12 cab loaded with HH Customs. The thing was just too loud even with a hotplate to take the edge off.
Hi Glenn I’ve been a guitarist for about a year and a half now and I own a Chapman Ml1 pro Modern going into a boss katana 50 with my trusty Mxr distortion plus One thing I have noticed is my Chapman’s pickups give out a lot of low end I’m asking on how to deal with that if I want to play something bright. Ps it would be really cool to see you review the Chapman Ml1 pro modern From Evan in Australia
Could you do a video on all the audio equipment you need for live drumming and how you set it all up? I know that you need Mike's and an audio interface but which interface would be the best? Thanks in advance.
Hey Glenn, what's your go-to argan oil-based conditioner? And is there one you could recommend, even if it isn't the best, for the bedroom-level stylist on a tight budget?
WOW that IRT-SLS is wayyyy overpriced, are you kidding laney ? Class D power amp and a tube preamp 680€, especially compared to the IRT-Studio (should correct your title and link Glenn) which is cheaper and has got "more features" well lets say the dynamics knob on the studio is way useful for tone shaping and is missing on the SLS... Why is this SLS so expensive ? Gotta get myself another irt-studio always regretted selling it...
Hey glen heres a hard question. Can you recomend a cheap, good sounding amp, that travels or ships easily? The amp would be for bass but a solution for fuitar would be nice as well. Im currently deployed overseas and shipping is incredibly slow. It is possible to that i may need to leave it do to lack of space. Oh and don't bother congradulating me for my service, I'm a contractor, we live in the same conditions but get paid more.
personally i must say tube amps with a class d poweramp are for me like half of a amp or a very loud preamp :D because class D doesn't color the sound und is very sterile and linear... Thomas Blug made a perfect compromise by putting a tube between preamp and poweramp that makes so much sense imo the the amp 1 sounds amazing ... BUT the LA30 and LA100 MAN these amps are amazing !! I love them so much i hope i can get either one of them or the original laney supergroup used but yeah i hope they never discontinue that amp
About the high gain tones, i seem to dial in a thrash and a black metal tone no problem, I don’t really fuck with djent so can’t help much there but everything else gets the job done throw a od and 6 band eq in the mix ur gud
I kept waiting for the massive Metal crunch sound that I didn't get...Don't let the clean guy talk, he's gonna whip his single coil guitar on you and it's all downhill from there... :(
My first thought was how did this guy get such a classy and talented guy to demo products for his channel. These two guys are at opposite ends of the spectrum. One is a foul mouthed blowhard and the other guy is extremely talented and positive.
I really like your Channel, I'm not a guitar player I'm a drummer but I do hope to start learning how to play the guitar. I may not agree with your thoughts on religion cuz I'm a Christian but we always can agree to disagree and just find common ground on what we like. Please keep doing amazing work and take care. But I do agree with you on the whole religious Fanatics being absolute nutjobs. I would never ever fall into the category of a Westboro Baptist religious fanatic.
Lol Glens face at those cranked cleans, I know how you feel my Princeton chorus is room shakingly loud at 1 and when you dig into the strings it will make your ears bleed. Manufacturer's spend the extra 2$ and add a fucking master volume knob.
Lol he tried to push a prs guitar to an Ibanez endorsed artists. Not surprised at all...seems to be common practice these days with these UA-cam personalities.
I had the Ironheart 120 and I thought it sounded terrible. Sold it to a friend who also sold it because it sounded bad. We were looking for a big doom Laney sound like the AOR or GH but it sounded like dick
I appreciate the videos, don't get me wrong, I just wish they didn't jack up the mixes on some of them. Had you been able to actually mix the stuff I imagine they would have been much more enjoyable.
Good tones but where's the metal again? This is what happens when you get guitar players that are into jazzy rock stuff. Great playing but sadly no riffs and heaviness
Umm guys the first head is actually Laney IRT-SLS, not IRT Studio, fix the link and the title please!
I wondered why they said it has a solid state power amp... As the studio is fully tube.
Damnit Glenn, put down the bong and pay attention!
Where's the metal?
Glenn plugged his ears...so did I lol.
Wow! When he played the supergroup clean I immediately recognized the tone of the early Sabbath instrumentals.
It's just very unique, I've read somewhere that it's the output transformer that gives it this dark undertone. Very cool.
Double edged sword.. This can be good but as you crank it the tone seems to get more thin
@@alexanderlumberjack Also gets very creamy as you crank it, needs some kind of boost to keep the edge.
Being a Laney player myself, I really appreciate finally seeing someone play something else than Mesas or Peaveys.
Too bad they discontinued the VH100R, though. Laney never made an another amp quite like it.
The ironheart series in general kicks ass.
I have an ironheart 60 watt head and just cant get it to sound right
@@alexanderlumberjackI know this is an old comment but I can help I own the 120
I just bought a white vinyl 10” Laney VC15-110 15-Watt tube amp yesterday from a broke friend. Loving it. Told him he could always buy it back for the $200 I gave him for it. Sounds ossum.

And its rack mountable, i got mine for 350$ which i thought was the best going price
the SLS also has the reamp feature, but is missing the dynamics knob, really I don't know why anyone would buy the SLS over the studio, considering that the SLS is also way more expensive! The studio's are a great piece of gear, I miss mine.
probably because of the 300w power section? But not sure
Yeah 300w class D power section doesn't mean it should cost an arm and a leg, really not expensive, 300w are irrelevant, really not a valid argument. Typical marketing BS that is "ouhhh 300w that's why it's expensive !!!"

Got the big one (120H) about 5 years ago for my band. Still love it.
Damn it was killing me waiting for one of you guys to hammer on that prs and belt out some riffs !!!!! Wtf !!!!!
I don't consider anything Laney a "metal sound", but they are GREAT sounding amps for a variety of genres from jazz to classic rock! I have a L5T-112 and it's a beautiful sounding beast!
I haven't seen Laney in ages. I still have a Laney 4×12 bass combo amp that I Got Back in 88
No metal riff?
I like how this was posted the moment my Irt60h arrived
sounds incredible, and that guitar player has amazing feel to his playing
I like Martin's playing. Most guys you see are shred-heads, but this guy is more about the feeling and the melody. Not very flashy but he makes up for it in feel.
Edit: Checked his channel and he can definitely shred as well, but I dig this style. :P
Glenn Fricker + Martin Miller = Glenn Miller. XD
Wow the amp sounds good and that guy is an incredible player but... where's them high-gain tones at? I was considering this amp for for a friend and was looking forward to hearing what it can do.

Rotten*Sludge you are very right. change the el84 to JJ and always crank the volume up to 6 (and using hotplate) and love how it sounds and feels 👍

of course this is just for recordings. it's not loud enough for shows on it's own. but for an angry sounding metal tone, i have yet to find better.
Damn, that guy plays really well, and the tone was amazing
IRT SLS Glenn, not to be confused with the all tube IRT-Studio
I would love to just listen to this guy play for a bit! Definitely would be humbling for me haha
I will!
Why oh why do people subscribe to a channel, watch every video, and bitch the entire time and hate all over it? The ignorance always amazes me. Anyhoo, I digress. "This is a Metal show."
Spends 80% of the video on the clean channel.
Missed you at the gym yesterday ;(
Instablaster.
Wow, great Tony Iommi soft blues licks there...howzabout some metal, Glenn?
An end in itself - I know that riff anywhere. I love his style
I have the irt60c and it took a bit of work to wear it in buying brand new it was super harsh But I've got a great tone now. From all 3 channels
I really disliked Laney when I tried the Tubefusion series, but when I cranked up a GH100TI, I was hooked. Love music, love Laney!
When he started playing, it almost sounded like Rite of Spring and I nearly lost it
I love my IRT Studio (the tube version of this one). If the SLS lives up to it then it's a great amp
Finally a good guitar player.
No riffs?
Not a single fucking riff.
This is a metal show he said :D
Please try the Laney Ironheart 120w

Wonderful midrange
that reverb is sick!
I use the Laney ironheart irt studio it is awesome and takes pedals very well also the Di and cab sim is awesome and very dinamic !!!!!!!! 😎😎😎😎😁
Was your intro pitch shifted down a little? Lol sounded a bit deeper to me.. great vid cheers!
Martin Miller could be selling shoes and I'd watch.
I'd love to see something on the IRT-Studio
Hi comments or glen could you give your opinion on guitar with no pick for metal and rock

Wow nice lead tone!!!
Hey Glenn, what's your go-to argan oil-based conditioner? And is there one you could recommend, even if it isn't the best, for the bedroom-level stylist on a tight budget?
Glen, how come you have not instructed him to play rhythm on distortion :(
The AOR series from Laney is still the best thing ever!
Tritonus Seitan klipp? Supergroup?
Absolutely love them too!
I bought an ironheart 60 watt only a couple of month's before that's release
WOW that IRT-SLS is wayyyy overpriced, are you kidding laney ? The IRT SLS is better. That is why it is pricy.
Hey glen heres a hard question. Can you recomend a cheap, good sounding amp, that travels or ships easily? The amp would be for bass but a solution for fuitar would be nice as well. AWESOMENESS GEAR !!!!!
Roy Fokker shirt incoming! Get those Zentraedi Glenn!
I have it, can get any tone I want , fucking amazing amp, great buy
3:11 damn that sounds smooth... Is it a song or just a chord progression with some VERY tasty licks?
Travels by Pat Matheny
personally i must say tube amps with a class d poweramp are for me like half of a amp or a very loud preamp :D because class D doesn't color the sound und is very sterile and linear... Would you do a review on the Sabbra Cadabbra pedal?
Good move on Ibanez's part...Super cool guy and super player.
not tube power amp?
I hate changing guitar strings any recommendations
for stings or new guitar? maybe install some locking tunes, that might make the process of changing strings faster...
For ways to make string changing better
About the high gain tones, i seem to dial in a thrash and a black metal tone no problem, I don’t really fuck with djent so can’t help much there but everything else gets the job done throw a od and 6 band eq in the mix ur gud

I kept waiting for the massive Metal crunch sound that I didn't get...Don't let the clean guy talk, he's gonna whip his single coil guitar on you and it's all downhill from there... :(

Strange pairing, but it somehow works!

Yeah, it's a metal show, but... not even ONE metal riff?? :(
What the hell Glenn! Does he play for Disney?
4:45 Glen, why do you play guitar between your knees like a banjo?
Sagiri Izumi because some people feel more comfortable that way
Never seen anyone do this until this vid. Acoustic style is one foot elevated. But banjo electric is new. I call it "Glen position."
Sagiri Izumi its like playing a V. I know numerous people who play this way
Sagiri Izumi because glen is massive and doesn't have a foot stall
Glen you mixed up the brands...
Man, a cab sim is a huge part of what you hear. Product demos should be mic’d or, in this case, using the built in ones would have been more honest.
Lol Glens face at those cranked cleans, I know how you feel my Princeton chorus is room shakingly loud at 1 and when you dig into the strings it will make your ears bleed. Manufacturer's spend the extra 2$ and add a fucking master volume knob.
check out Martin on cracking the code. He's a robot!
wtf, Glenn? Why would you even bother with a review that doesn't show high-gain sounds?
Lol he tried to push a prs guitar to an Ibanez endorsed artists. Not surprised at all...seems to be common practice these days with these UA-cam personalities.
I thing im gong two by it.
I have a goldfish that makes remarkably similar faces as that guitar player.
I had the Ironheart 120 and I thought it sounded terrible. Sold it to a friend who also sold it because it sounded bad. We were looking for a big doom Laney sound like the AOR or GH but it sounded like dick
Pfft... it wasn't that loud... I didn't even have to adjust my volume at all...
why no one on UA-cam plays fucking metal on the IRT SLS?!?!
Was hoping to hear some actual rhythm tones
Glenn, this is the product: www.thomann.de/gb/laney_irt_sls.htm you have the wrong link 😬🙄
i will get axfx for that fking reverb! that reverb is fking sick!!!
not a fan of Laney's stuff but cool vid
Metal channel and no even one metal riff?Just some solo?Glen repent.
Sub a N for a L, and add Kent Mccord, and you have Squad 51!!
L A N E Y ! ! !
S A B B A T H ! ! !
Howmuch howmuch?
Cause I just got a used crate turbovalve and not to pleased with the tone and harsh OD.
💟WOW💟
I'm getting sick of Thomann videos because they have botched the audio on nearly every single one.
Fair enough. I did 15
I appreciate the videos, don't get me wrong, I just wish they didn't jack up the mixes on some of them. Had you been able to actually mix the stuff I imagine they would have been much more enjoyable.
Good tones but where's the metal again? This is what happens when you get guitar players that are into jazzy rock stuff. Great playing but sadly no riffs and heaviness
