  • São Bras (pronounced: "Sow Braazh") is a lovely little town nestled in the hills away from all the major tourist areas of the Algarve. NOTE: São Brás also has a private medical clinic and a "Centro de Saúde".
    I'm Nick and I've lived here for 10 years - let me know in the comments if you have any questions about the area? Thanks for watching!

    I love how your daughter is the one teaching you the correct pronunciation of "Pousada", and she got it right! She has the great advantage of knowing Portuguese and English fluently, which comes in hand when you want to learn other languages such as Italian, Spanish and French. I'd love to be "born" fluent in Portuguese and English, but I had to learn English from the ground up, which makes my pronunciation horrible, despite the fact that I can read, understand conversations and even sing without a problem. Cheers and thanks for sharing.

    To me Portugual has the most beautiful skies. I've never seen such blue skies as in the Algarve. It's a beautiful country. Can't wait to explore it. Thanks for these ( lekker) awesome videos.

      I have worked all over the world mainly the USA, Brazil, Thailand and Australia and without question my favourite place is Portugal. The people on the whole are lovely. The food if you love fish is fantastic and the place is so Safe compared to other counties. You can walk the streets at midnight with no problem which you simply can not do in many places in Brazil or the US. The climate is for me fantastic, great I the winter and not too hot in the summer. I just wish the sea in the summer was a lot warmer 😀

    I have watched A LOT of UA-cam videos about moving to Portugal. You do it the best - the way you show us the google map and then you drive or walk that same spot which is on the map. You point out where important things are like schools, grocery stores, hospitals, walking trails etc. It would great to see more of the food markets with local produce and neighbourhood drives. Regards from CT

Am hoping to move over to Portugal in the summer and S.B de Alportel is a place we're considering (along with Estoi and SB. de Nexe amongst others). Have passed through there a few times when out cycling and really like it there plus it's close to my partners family in Almancil. Another bonus is that sports centre! Hopefully if I do move there can try to arrange a group to play 5-a-side footy once a week!

    Very nice tour of the town I lived in from 2005-2018. Had a large 450 sq. metre villa built from a 'ruina' located in the Val de Mealhas; had to sell up for personal reasons and now living in the Eastern Algarve near the beach. You forgot to mention 'Horta' which was one of our favorites after Chicken Luis (providing you did not get there later than 19:00-19:15!). I walk on the beautiful beach here in Manta Rota every day but do miss Sao Bras, especially the amazing indoor pool complex which for a swim and a steam bath used to cost me 90 cents! Anyway, muito obrigado! Very well done.

I'm in beautiful San Diego, CA but all I can think about is the day I'm able retire to the Algarve - probably 3-4 years. Super informative. Wife and I are active South African retirees looking to move to Portugal after a recce last year. We didn’t get to the Algarve because we were warned about the massive tourist influx in summer, but is looks like it might be worth reconsidering. We have always been city dwellers so don’t think we will manage deep rural. We need to be within 30 minutes of a city to access things like Leroy Merlin, fabric shops (the wife sews) and, of course, good healthcare. Not sure I want to take on construction projects in a country with different building regulations and a different language, so move-in ready is a must with a long term rental to start with.

    Looks like a really great spot. I think many of us would love a country spot with great weather, great views, along with a pleasant handy village for socializing, shopping, etc. The beaches only being 25 minutes away is a real plus. Even when I lived in CA, in towns considered coastal, it took that long or longer to get to the beach, amidst a horde of traffic. Since Faro is a transport hub, you can connect to the rest of Portugal and Europe rather easily, too. When I considered San Miguel de Allende in Mexico (great culture, climate, low cost and colorful), it was 90 minutes to the airport and any beaches were hours away, so this is a plus, not to mention it being part of Europe, my favorite continent. I was also looking at Altea, Spain, as it has some of the same features that Sao Bras seems to have, though likely more touristy, since on the coast not far from Valencia. Did you build your house, or did you purchase one already built? Some of the trees in town almost look like new plantings, but obviously the architecture indicates a long history. I love biking, hiking, and walking in towns (hate places dominated by the car), and a relaxed pace of life. How is the train service through Faro, or is it better to bus to Lisboa and take the train/plane from there to get other places. I am fond of Seville, Spain, but I think you can only bus from the Algarve to there, which is fine, but I LOVE trains. Also, are there any wineries in the general vicinity, or is most of that further north? I assume the internet is good, as you indicated your business was done via internet. Nice to "meet" your daughter, too, as it becomes easier to picture life in a place when we see part of the daily routine, as opposed to just a tour of certain attractions.

    I have wondered about housing just a bit inland from the sea. The views from your hillside are stunning, absolutely stunning. Since it's close to the beach if you need it, seems ideal in many ways. Are there other places along the Algarve with a similar situation? That is, sort of on the hillside with a view of the ocean in the distance?

    no mention of doctor/medical facilities?

    • @AlgarveAddicts
      @AlgarveAddicts  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it was one of my earlier videos. There is a fantastic private clinic called SIIPEMOR in São Brás and the standard government run "Centro de Saúde". Plus doctors and dentists and two or three pharmacies/chemists.
