  • This is a compilation of my wooden bike build videos from 2018, I noticed that lots of people watched the first video but only about a third of the people watched the second and third videos and I figured maybe it would've been better to make one shorter video... so here that is!
    Sorry if you've seen them before, but I'm sure you'll be glad to know the bike is holding up great and I've cycled it hundreds of kilometers (despite only having 3 gears!)
    I've been really touched to see a few people have messaged me to say they were inspired by my videos to make wooden bikes themselves. Hopefully there will be more wooden bikes out there after this video!

    This is awesome! Basically the same process I followed when I built my wooden bike. It such a great feeling to ride around on something you built.

    Still the best bike build around, such an amazing job. Also from engineering perspective. Beautiful.

    Sorry if you've seen this before! I thought I'd make a full build edit of building my wooden bike for people who didn't want to watch all 3 of my older videos (lots of people watched the first video but not so much the second two)

      I watched all of them earlier this year but I’m glad you put this together. I might try my hand at a build this year. Thanks for the inspiration. I might have missed this, but where did you get your seat tube and bottom bracket sleeve?

    Super cool build. I watched your videos from before but for some reason never asked a couple questions. For the downtube, the head tube and the hole for the crankset, how did you get drill bits or router heads at the right sizes? Thanks

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  Рік тому

      It took some googling but I managed to find the router bit In exactly the right size online for the seatpost. The headtube and bottom bracket were just regular spade bits, I used thickened epoxy that I coloured with wood sanding dust but that filled in any gaps so while they were a good fit it didn’t need to be 100% perfect, you can see the bottom bracket slides in a bit when I left it on it’s side but putting the bike upright stopped that and I got my brother to fabricate a jig based off the bike frame I copied dimensions from to hold the headtube at the perfect angle

    Sweet build. How did the joint points on frame (seat stays and chain stays) hold up. Was considering using a brass fixing to hold other end on my build as it’s only located in the routed pocket near seatpost

      Everything is holding up fine! Cycled thousands of kilometres on it now

    I want to build mine too..is there a reference to build?

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  8 місяців тому +2

      I just used an existing frame as the reference and made all the tubes slightly bigger

    Can you list the 2 part epoxy you used? Especially interested in how the bottom bracket is holding up glued into the wood? Thanks

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  Рік тому +1

      I used west systems epoxy, bottom bracket is holding up fine! I’m not a light person and have cycled over 1000km on it

      @@DavidParker which exact west system epoxy? West System is recommending G-Flex for metal to wood bonding, as it is flexible and less prone to withstand high stress. But it is much more expensive then 105 for example. I suppose you use steel tubes? I'm in the process of making a frame and I'm getting close to the moment of gluing the tubes.

    How much lighter is the bike due to it being made of wood?

    • @DavidParker
      @DavidParker  13 днів тому

      It’s about the same weight as a steel frame… I could’ve probably made it lighter weight but I am not the lightest person and wanted to make sure it held up to me riding it which it has!
