    Sorry for being late to the party, but currently enjoying a deep dive into some of your older videos! You do such a great job of swatching and giving us a basic writing sample without getting too in the weeds with water fastness, etc., I really enjoy how many different inks you can cover in a ~15 min video. Thanks for all your work!

    Nice, I have many of these inks, but I think I would categorize many of them in the blue ink category.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +5

      Yeah it's difficult because some will see them as blue with a hint of green or green with a hint of blue, or a turquoise even. I've tried to categorize them in the colour they say they are, but as hues and palettes merge and collide, they could easily fall into different colour categories.

    I really love your ink comparisons. Thank you for continuing them. Diamine Smoke on the Water is my favorite ink of all time! But as far as greens go, I think of it as more blue. In the really green inks, I use Kaweco Palm Green, J Herbin Lierre Sauvage, and Graf v F-C Moss Green. It would be very difficult to say which of those I like the best.

      Thanks Manuel! That's always been my objective as so many inks go on the page wet and massively change colour by the time they have dried. I also wanted to try and capture the ink dried to show the sheening and shading properties as I find a lot of ink reviews only show it when wet.

    I like the Edelstein A(d)venturine the best, the shading is very visible in the writing. I must confess that I don't understand sheen - it is almost never visible in writing, only in very thick swabs, so what's the thrill about that? Even in my Pelikan M800 broad nib, the so called sheening inks don't really show that in writing, although this is a very wet pen/nib. Shading on the other hand is for me what makes fountain pen writing characteristic. The Edelstein inks I have are quite shady . I have the Aventurine, Star Ruby and Mandarin. Great test, I was just about to ink our new M1000 with it today. ❤️

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +1

      Sheen typically will happen if the ink is very saturated in dye content, but even then you will only see it on really good quality paper like Tomoe River. Even then it can be marginal depending on the ink and sheen. I also have some broad nibs that inks just refuse to sheen in but others they will sheen very well. I think it really helps to have a super wet nib. I've seen some people write in fine and extra fine nibs and still get sheen out of some inks but I have never managed to get sheen on anything less than a medium nib.

    I had the Visconti Green included with my Homo Sapiens Jade pen and I was really disappointed, because someone at Visconti must be colorblind. You need to have a turquoise classification for some of those inks because they sure aren't green. I find that Goulet Pen has pretty good judgement on colors, although they do have some that don't seem correct to me.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah the Visconti Green kind of sits in a number of different colour categories, some think it's more of a bluish green, others a tealish green and others a turquoise green. I too have found Goulet ink colour correction better than other retailers.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  2 роки тому +2

      Smoke on the Water is a very concentrated dye. Providing you don't let the ink dry up it should be okay, although you might find with the concentrated dyes that the ink windows or demonstrators might stain.

    Cameras and monitors. I use Sherwood Green and it is nothing like the colour I am getting on my screen from your video. With a Wet Lame medium nib. I would also say that other reviews I have seen show Sherwood Green as being very similar to the ink I have in the real.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  3 роки тому

      The colour on the video of Sherwood Green is exactly how I see it in real life. I suspect my bottle being a 5 yr old bottle could have gone through a number of different batch formulas and has changed colour slightly in newer batches. I know this happens with some ink providers more than others.

    Hi. Thanks for the good review. I am using my 149 (M) with Mont Blanc Irish Green ink and its performing awesome. I recently changed my ink (of course after cleaning it well) to Mont Blanc Mystery Black then my pen started giving troubles, it skips in between often. Then I again changed back to Irish Green then again it started performing well. I am facing serious problem with Mystery Black ink. Tried 3 other diffrent pens (Twisbi Go (F) Sheaffer Award (M), Parker urban (M)) every where I had the issue of skips in between & writes dry and having to prime the nib often. Also I tried inking it to Gama Supreme (Eye dropper M) pen (usually writes wet) but it is also showing similar problems. Can u pls guide what is going wrong here.

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  4 роки тому +4

      Some inks can have lubricants to help the ink flow more, other inks can be dry and some dry inks can have lubricants added but some do not. When you hit into a problem with an ink like this then it can write dry or hard start or skip. Paper can be a cause if you're using some less absorbent paper like Rhodia. If you are trying it in a C/C you could try flushing out the converter and try washing the inside of the converter (flushing it) with soapy water. The other thing you can do is with an ink syringe or toothpick just dab a drop of dish liquid soap into the converter and see if that helps the surface tension to help the ink flow better. Outside of that, you may just want to try a different ink.

    Maybe chromatologists, if there are such men, have clear guidelines for what qualifies a color to be considered green, like how horse people consider white horses gray unless they have pink skin instead of gray around their loose and eyes, but I’m kind of simple like you. I like it if they call blue green blue green. Edit: some of the off-green greens are really attractive though, nonetheless.
