Woo hoo, another 15 minute declutter! 👋🏼😍 Have any of the same videos as we do? 📺📼 Do you have a collection that’s hard to let go of? DVDs, books, cleaning products? How do you decide what stays and what goes? What matters to me now is the people and experiences, not the "stuff"! 🎉🎉🎉 Did you see my 90-minute clothes declutter last week? I own zero tv/movie dvd's...never bought any. What I DID used to own were Disney vhs tapes that my dear daughter (now 40) watched repeatedly. And music cd's And books. The vhs tapes went years ago... left them with my folks for all the grands to watch after dear daughter outgrew them, then decluttered when they died I and cleared their home. My music cd's were given away to friends; now I listen to streaming services and regular radio. My books 💔! I'd pared them way down in my early 60's, and kept only my most prized Jane Austen and Shakespeare collections, and Bibles/Bible study books. Sadly, even with reading glasses the Jane Austen and Shakespeare fine-print were beyond my 68 year old eyes and were donated. I cried. Still have the Bibles/study books. I use an eReader and audio novels and rarely miss my paper books...NEVER miss the amount of space they took. I continue to declutter and am mindful of what I bring into my home. I find myself letting go of things I once could not...I just wait until my heart is ready.
Some of them we have, like Harry Potter, some of yours I want to have (Father Brown), some of yours made me curious… (thoroughly modern Millie)😁. You’re right, Libraries in Denmark are a miracle! I now became a member, can go there in and out, checking in with my card, AND although its not Copenhagen, they have a wonderful collection of old and new books, DVDs, plays… I was amazed! The Danish TV program was a bit poor, because there were only 2 channels … the others like TV 2 weren’t free. I hope you’ll find enough entertainment in the future😉
Diane, you’re the first person I’ve seen address the ridiculous thumbnail photos. I feel so much second-hand embarrassment when I see them! I’m glad you’re making such great progress toward your new City lifestyle. Thanks (as always) for your inspiration!
While I watch you I see small struggles, but it seems so easy for you to declutter. For me, I feel like I get stuck holding on to things because I intend to use/watch them, but then never get around to actually doing it.
I love my DVDs and I've thrown away all the cases and put the discs in a binder. I've cut the picture big enough to see the title and put it underneath the discs. It made a big difference in clutter and I can flip the pages of my favourite DVDs that I still watch. :)
@@DianeinDenmark My daughter does live streaming and we can't use internet when she does it. I have DVDs for holidays as well. I love watching them every year. I have my computer (which plays DVDs) in the kitchen, so I can watch while cooking and doing dishes. :)
I took all my DVDs out of their covers and put them in wallets in genres, it takes up minimal space but I still have all my favourites. I decluttered all the random movies.
Great use of time! ❤ At this stage of life, I am media free, with a minimal 20 hardback books. I use an IPad for everything, so minimal technology as well. My small kitchen area is trimmed to the bone, with a small laundry nook/pantry. Since I lost hubs last fall, It has been a painful year of letting go of his overwhelming possessions . Every item was a knife through my heart. Thousands of items were carefully dispersed. I have kept. a meaningful memory box to cherish.
We got a puppy so I’ve been on house training vigil since last Thursday. However, now we have a rytheme almost and I’m starting my full morning routine again. Today during her nap I decided to watch this for motivation!
My heart says please keep mom's favorite, I just can't imagine in aa tough or happy moment watching this and having a good cry, laugh, anf hug fest- in honor of your beautiful mom.
Just loving your enthusiasm , declutttering, ready for a new start. I'm not moving yet, probably not for a few years, but I'm declutttering along with you, and I feel amazing. Thanks, as always Diane xx
These 15 minute videos are great! I hope you can get to 100k subscribers soon ❤ Princess Bride had so many funny moments, "stop rhyming, I mean it! Anybody want a peanut?!" 😂
I’m keeping mine. Many reasons why, as we get older the source of in-house entertainment is a good idea - Another lockdown, a long term illness, a post surgery recovery, or just getting older and not being able to get out as much.
About 10 years ago, put all the videos out on the curbside and they were gone within hours. Don't think that would work now. We rewatched our dvd collection. If it hadn't caught our attention within the first 20 min, it's out. Some of them we watched until the end and while we enjoyed them, we know we wouldn't watch them again in what remains of our lifespan. Out they went. Some cherished ones, we have kept. Was a nice winter project.
"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die” from the Princess Bride. Brilliant movie!!! Thanks for the inspiration. We share a lot of common interests in movies :-).
Diane, you are doing a wonderful service for those of us who are interested in simpler, decluttered living. It's hard to do sometimes, especially while grieving. Thank you for sharing your journey. It's very helpful.
My late husband and I never owned a TV but we used to watch a lot of dvds. We used to play a “game” where we would do quotes from films and the other had to guess the film. The Princess Bride was always a great one for quotes!!! Now that I have decent internet and watch more catch up tv online, I’ve gradually been thinning down the dvd collection, but still have far more than I need. I’m feeling inspired to have another pass through the collection and try to be more ruthless.
Fascinating to watch, Diane. I own two dvds, and am keeping them both 😂 I've not watched Thoroughly Modern Milly for years, I'm going to see if I can find that somewhere to watch. I'm not well, with a long haul of treatment ahead of me, so watching feel good films is the order of the day!
Harrryy POTTER !!!! Hahaha. I would keep only the original Die Hard. I think decluttering (especially at that speed) makes us happy as we are in total control. Pat on the back Diane, thst was great!
Diane, I'm sorry to hear about your mother. She looked like such a fun lady in your pictures. I was laughing when I saw your Starsky and Hutch DVDs. I was a huge fan of the show when I was young too. My hubby and I are planning on retiring soon and I've begun a big declutter too. Your videos are so inspirational!!
I am going through all my items again after selling my house. I am in between places right now and decided I needed to go through my items again. I just let go of quite a few DVDs and tons of CDs. I enjoy watching you go through things and declutter it helps get me motivated.
I don't have any of those movies, lol. But it's great fun to watch you, and very inspirational to see you say "oh I LOVE that movie" and calmly put it in the box of things to go. I always thought that if you loved something, that meant you had to keep it. The idea that you can really enjoy something and also choose to remove it from your house is very new to me! And you did it over and over again!
I enjoyed your quick reviews of the movies. I may come back to this to see what to watch. I can't believe how quickly you dealt with Mama Mia. A movie I love, loved, and will never discard. But I think I'll try Thoroughly Modern Millie, which I missed when it was out. Thank you.
We declutterred our DVDs and CDs awhile back and have to say we don’t miss them at all. Although like you I find I would rather read than watch tv in this season of my life. Really enjoying your videos xx
I have spent all of 2024 decluttering my home just like you have done since the passing of your dear Mother. I don't have much left as I realized I don't need it and I am now so able to do the flylady routines because the clutter is gone. It is hard to do in the beginning but it changes your whole mindset especially on consumerism. Now watching the terrible natural disaster here in the US. I can see that many will now know what they really need and value in their lives. it is up to the rest of us to help them get back to that place. Supplies and money will be short of the need. Survival is primary, food, water clothing and shelter. Many have lost everything including their livelihoods and family members. It makes me reflect on how I would be handling myself in this situation. TY for showing us all what we are able to do when we deeply reflect and choose a different mindset.
❤ We like a lot of the same movies! I only have a couple of DVDs now - The Princess Bride and Goonies. I just keep them on my bookshelf with my paperbacks. There’s a great book I listened to as an audiobook by Cary Elwes called As You Wish about making The Princess Bride. They included a lot of memories from the other actors told in their own voices, so much fun! Especially Billy Crystal and Carol Kane, such distinctive voices and such funny people.
Thanks for the motivation. I’m travelling this week and it’s been a long day and I know I will feel better if I do my evening routine. So doing that now as well watch along ❤ thanks for keeping me company as always 😊
Today I decluttered 3 exercise videos I never use (everything current is on UA-cam) then continued and found enough other items to fill 2 carrier bags which are now in the boot of the car to go to a local charity shop! Really enjoying this in depth declutter by room.
We got rid of our DVDs some years ago, but I find not every movie I want to watch is on Netflix / Disney+ so I have ended up renting them on UA-cam, some multiple times, which adds up! The charity shops sell DVDs for about 1 euro each, even double editions, so I have been buying my favourite movies, Christmas ones, old comfort watches that I loved in childhood, and movies I want to share with my children. So I would say: downsize your DVDs but if you are like me and enjoy rewatching movies, keep those ones!
I have had to declutter my grandparents' house and fil house. It can be such a hard process. I really don't want my children to have to experience it. Your video reenergized me to get off my bahooki and declutter. Thank you😊.
The thing about Christmas movies ( showing here now Sept' to January!) is that they all look cheerful with the decor and trees and have happy endings. I'm still keeping some DVDs, and will watch them again when I have time as some have sentimental value. I can see a definite touch of "Muzzy" in your enthusiasm for life Diane. :-)
I went through the DVDs after my H passed away, i haven’t watched many of those I kept. I’m not a tele watcher anyway, I even cancelled my streaming services and cable. My world was quiet until my sister in law moved in, she wants constant background noise like my husband. I bought a Roku. Thank you Diane for all your inspiration.
I didn't have as many DVDs as you, but I had a lot. When we started sorting through them and realized we didn't watch them anymore and didn't want them anymore. So I decluttered the DVDs and the DVD player. Best decision as the only thing I did to them (and the player) was dust them.
You are so correct! I think about my experience clearing out my mum's house, and I declutter some more! The dvds are a tough one - we don't have great tv here in France and we do still watch them. Our dvd player from Canada works on a transformer, so we can watch them, but they won't do anyone any good to donate them. In the meantime, we have decluttered a lot from our storage area in the house, so that's a good start. You did an amazing job with your dvds today! Go you!
Super job, DIane! Loving the picture of Christianshavn ❤ we rented a lovely new-ish apartment there when visiting Copenhagen. Would really like being there again! That huge library, too!! Thanks for the inspiration 💙
I got rid of my dvds before we moved and I kept a few of the empty plastic boxes because they are the right size for storing jewellery that I make. I don’t have anything to play them on anyway. I loved Bill Bailey when I saw him a few years ago in Sheffield with my Danish friend. I was crying with laughing. It was a long time ago and we still reminisce about it. I enjoy the Father Brown and Montalbano and Father Brown is often on daytime tv in the UK. I’ve never seen any Harry Potter but our granddaughter saves her pocket money so she came go in the shop at Kings Cross when they come from France to visit in the summer. I have listened to some of the Hitchhikers Guide as audio books. You are doing so well and always inspiring. It’s definitely not the stuff but the people and the memories x
I have been trying to get my husband to go through our DVDs and old CDs. They are just taking up space and we can get almost all of them on streaming or the library. I can't wait until I can. They are just taking up much needed space in our modest home. You have inspired me to try again.
42!! ❤My decluttering also kicked into high gear after the loss of my mom too. I think that's beautifull in a way. ❤ love the nerdy fun movie taste Diane!! Me too 🎉
Your videos have been helping me process some of my losses. Mom and granny in 2017/2020 and grandfather this year. It's a little bonus grief group therapy. I'm so sorry for your loss and anyone else who sees this. ❤baby steps
Isn't it interesting when we're suddenly able to let go of whole, big collections of things that we used to really enjoy and that we've kept again and again when decluttering? I've had categories like that, too. It's almost as if the time's just right all of a sudden. Well done with those DVD:s, and I'm glad you kept your mom's favourite. Love from Sweden! (ps. Kongens store tale/The King's speech is a very enjoyable movie, I recommend it for your summer house! :))
Hey Diane, me & my partner have got our dvd collection down to 1 box now. We're only keeping films/series that are difficult to find or that we love so much we can't let them go 🤪
Hi Diane, just to say another big thank you! All my DVDs are now in the charity shop.. as you say why keep DVDs when there's no DVD player 😂.. I took a photo of films I want to watch again, to remind me to search for one when I feel like going back and reminiscing.
Thanks Diane for the decluttering method- and great to see how you don't attach too much feelings to the items-hence you find it easier. Tx again. There is 2 things I would like to bring up here: 1. You are not too from 100 000 subscribers- YAY!! happy with you🥰. 2. Down the track- would you be able to make a video in how you plan your week, and your day. Would love to see it visual - if it's ok with you? I struggle a bit with balance. Tx for considering it🙏💖
I sent my quilting fabric on to my sister-in-law who loves quilting. I find that I would rather read, cook, or garden. You have inspired me to keep on this journey of simplifying my life. Thank you! 🦋🦋🦋
My husband and I love Father Brown! We’re catching up on the older seasons as they replay on tv but our library has so many good series to watch, too. We also have quite a few VHS tapes still, although we can’t watch them, and a large selection of dvds. It’s so nice that you are keeping the movie that your mum loved. You could do up a small box of remembrance for her and put all of your keepsakes from her into it. Have a lovely week! 🇨🇦
I moved from Virginia to West Virginia in July. The house I’m renting has only wireless Internet capabilities. Like quite a number of places up here. I’ve gone from $35/mo unlimited internet to $75/mo for 100 gbs (or $100/mo for 150 gbs) That’s quite a steep markup; those DVD’s I discarded years ago would come in handy now, as to limiting my streaming minutes (no carry-over minutes, either.) I’m real big on minimalism but you’ve got to be careful just what you toss out; try moving DVD’s to square envelope covers, save space that way.
I love all those movies. We can usually find what we want on a streaming service if we do not have the DVD. We do have certain DVD's we watch based on the seasons; I will give ours a quick decluttering. I really like the point you make that if you are not using it then why do you keep it. I did that with my clothes recently and it was super helpful.
I'm decluttering my garden while listening. All the intertwined vines: grapes, blackberries, tomatoes, and bougainvillea. At last it's cool enough in the morning (California) to go outside and tackle this. ❤

Yep, we've got half of them too, but I'm not parting with my Bill Bailey and Eddie Izzard box sets 😂
I’ve got rid of 8 - I’m doing it bit by bit DH has loads he won’t part with. We have a whole load multi drawer chestof CDs yet he uses Spotify!

"If you didnt watch them during the pandemic when are you going to watch them?!" Yes!

My world was quiet until my sister in law moved in, she wants constant background noise like my husband. I bought a Roku. Thank you Diane for all your inspiration.
Thanks for the inspiration! You're such a lovely strong woman :)
Well done! You have inspired me once again Diane…thanks. I watch you constantly for motivation❣️
Well done Diane you are an inspiration xx
You are so funny (that thumbnail pose!) 😂 - I love your cheerful personality! I think I could probably let go of some dvd's as well. Thanks you!!!
I never thought of using the empty cases for jewelry. That's brilliant.
I have been trying to get my husband to go through our DVDs and old CDs. They are just taking up space and we can get almost all of them on streaming or the library. I can't wait until I can. They are just taking up much needed space in our modest home. You have inspired me to try again.
Thank you Diane ❤❤
Loved Thoroughly Modern Millie! ❤
Huge fan of The Fifth Element!! Such a hilarious movie!! Good job in all of your efforts. ❤
Hey Diane, me & my partner have got our dvd collection down to 1 box now. We're only keeping films/series that are difficult to find or that we love so much we can't let them go 🤪
Sending love and sympathy
I'm decluttering my paper collection🙂 I recently saw Blades of Glory with my nephew. It is hysterical.
Love "Weekend at Bernie's"! A keeper for me!
You’re so inspiring! I recently gave away all my dvd’s. Still have music cd’s. ❤
Wow you did so well
I always forget the library 😊
Thank you Diane! I got back on decluttering today.
I love Eddie Izzard, too!
Thank you! 🦋🦋🦋
You did great!
Love Throughly Modern Millie!
I’ve gone from $35/mo unlimited internet to $75/mo for 100 gbs (or $100/mo for 150 gbs)
That’s quite a steep markup; those DVD’s I discarded years ago would come in handy now, as to limiting my streaming minutes (no carry-over minutes, either.)
I’m real big on minimalism but you’ve got to be careful just what you toss out; try moving DVD’s to square envelope covers, save space that way.
