Hello Diane, I love that you don’t do any sponsored content and that you are here to truly help us enjoy our life. Thank you for being here on UA-cam. It is a brighter place because of you.
I had a blanket for years that hadn't been used in a long time. I finally decided to donate it to the vet for doggies and kitties, but I wanted to wash it first. I decided to open the washing machine while it was washing and add another item. Low and behold when I open the washing machine. The entire blanket had disintegrated into little tiny pieces. It took me three hours, a vacuum cleaner, tons of water, and a lot of patience to clean that out. Lesson learned!!!
My favorite from this: "Does it represent who I am today?" That will help tremendously with sentimental things, which are where I need to thin further. I feel more ready now than I have in awhile, feeling that time passage thing once again. Thanks, Diane!! 💙
This is so true. I am feeling a bit of a *wind down" to some parts of my life, as I get older I think it is wise to reevaluate , take joy from those memories and make way for new experiences in each part of your life.
Inspiring, generous and stylish. Those are the three words I apply to you, kind Diane. Really hoping you reach 100,000 soon. It’s great that you are inspiring so many people.
Diane congratulations on the space you have created here, so welcoming and positive. Everyone is so supportive of each other, without any judgment or negativity. Especially today with everything that is happening in the world it is great to have a space that uplifting and encouraging, you are the best.
When you speak of your Mum - I can see where you get your inspiration from. She has passed on many amazing characters to you ❤ I love having a wide range of friends- ages, cultures and different phases of life. We all learn from each other ❤ your swap is going to be epic this time! You should get a crown to wear as Swap Queen 👸 because you definitely are bringing a lot of gems
This cozy chat was so helpful to me in many ways. I have reached the point in my decluttering journey where I am decluttering sentimental items and I have a lot of furniture and other items that belonged to people I love, but having all these items means my home does not reflect who I am today. It does not tell my story - it tells my mother's story, my grandmother's story, my aunt's story, but not mine. This has given me lots to think about as I move forward with decluttering. Thank you ❤
Diane, you are such a lovely person, you encourage and motivate us. I want you to know I truly appreciate you and your videos. I am feeling quite sentimental at the moment. I lost my grandmother a year ago this upcoming Monday. She was 98 years old and she was my person I would go to for advice or comfort. The grief is still lingering but I try to reflect on the happy memories. I have some items from her house that we put in storage because I thought I couldn’t part with them because they belonged to my grandmother. I now realize that I think I can let them go. I haven’t looked at them in almost a year. So my husband and I will go to storage and get the items and donate them so someone else can enjoy them. Thank you again for the encouragement and motivation.❤
Hi Diane. When my mom passed I took home a beautiful sequined sweater. The same thing happened to me. It fell apart. This experience also caused me to release my clothing while they were in good shape to a woman’s home for people getting their life on a good path. Your decluttering videos and the way you talk through your decisions have helped me a lot through the years. Thank you. I also loved all your videos that included your mum. Sending you all the best.
My mother never liked to get rid of anything, it took me 2 months of solid work to clear her house when she passed. Everything was in good condition and useable, so I didn't want to dump it, so it took longer to find homes..I gave away thousands of dollars of Tupperware, donated clothes, shoes, handbags, it was so overwhelming..and the sentimental stuff was the hardest, the stuff you know meant importance to them, but you didnt need it, or want it, but it broke your heart to give it away, or finally dump it.... I wish I had seen your channel back then, but I can tell you, you have still helped a lot in my paring down, as I've decided I don't want to leave that kind of stressful task for my kids...😢
Not only are you suffering grief but then the guilt when you have to clear out your loved ones things x it is awful x I have started selling my things - It will take time - when I need inspiration I watch Diane x
Excellent video Diane! You really hit on the stuff that's important in life. Thank you for being a great coach to all of us who struggle with decluttering. I'm paralyzed with sentimental stuff and gifts I've received. I really want to simplify my life now that I'm recently retired. I have read the book on Swedish Death Cleaning. It's really a gift to our loved ones. You deserve a million subscribers!
I've been finding that with my kids especially, I need to help them learn that when someone gives you a gift, they give it to you to do with what you want, and that the transaction is done when the gift is given. You sincerely thank them for thinking of you and then move on. I am discreet about things I donate (ie. I wouldn't post it on Facebook for the giver to see me giving it away), but generally that means it goes to the thrift store, or to someone I know needs it. After all, I would never want to burden anyone with any gift I give. If they give you a "guilt trip" because they don't see you using it, that's more about them than it is about you. Nowadays, as compared to when I was young, things are just SO easy to come by that we nearly all have too much.
Had a nice me time listening to you. It is always a pleasure! And now I am motivated to declutter the closet in the livingroom. Thank you so much and have a nice day!❤
Love the pathway to peace thought! I’ve still many sentimental kids items to declutter that are way past used by that I’ve hung onto for various reasons, but just don’t need to, thanks for the continuing motivation 😊❤️
I've raised 3 kids into young adulthood in the same house for over 20 years, now I am suddenly an empty nester preparing to make a 3,000 mile move across country in 9 days. Your videos have been helping me stay motivated as I have to do all the packing and cleaning alone for various reasons. The hardest things to declutter have been my kids projects and awards from preschool to HS graduation. LOL Making progress! I know I don't want to bring so much clutter into the new house.
You are an amazing person Diane. Your parents you would so proud of the positive impact you have on the world. Thanks for being an awesome mentor from afar! ❤❤❤
Diane thank you so much for your videos. My mom passed 2 years ago....I inherited the house and everything in it. She had lived there for 74 of her 92 yrs. I have not been able to empty it out due to the sentiment of the items, but we are planning to move back to my homepage, remodel, and make that our retirement home...so I do need to get busy. Thank you for reminding us to step back, maybe take a picture of items and that we don't need to keep everything. In 2009, I lost my brother and he had 5 rental properties, a personal property in Savannah GA and a home here in NC, then my mom and her things in 2022 and my father in law passed this past Sept...so we now have his house and items. It can be so overwhelming 😔. Thank you for helping me gradually work through my things, and hopefully soon my mom's and in-laws items. And yes, all of this "stuff" has made me realize that time, family and friends are more important.
Hi Diane! I just came upon your channel while watching other decluttering and cleaning videos. Your content is great! My husband and I are in the process of decluttering our entire home, room by room, section by section. The kitchen, especially was so hard. Like you, I also lost my mom, but it's been several years now. I'd been practically hoarding her stuff, and also the gifts that she'd given to me over the years. I am an avid cook, as was she, and she got me so many things for the kitchen (and I took some of her kitchen items when she passed.) Many of them, I'd totally forgotten I had, let alone have been using. It was really hard to part with a lot of it, but I finally came to the realization that my house can't be a museum for "mom stuff." I simply could not keep every single thing she ever gave me. So I decided to only keep the things that I knew for a fact I'd use, and a few of the more sentimental things that really, really meant something to me or that I especially love and get joy from. Our home is already so much more clutter-free and efficient. Before I even watched your video, I've been donating things that no longer serve or fit me or finding people for which they'd have more meaning or give more enjoyment. I grew up not far from Asheville, North Carolina, which was hit very hard when Hurricane Helene tore through the southeastern USA. The fact that I could give extra kitchenware and such to help people who lost everything in the floods as been so incredibly rewarding.
You are bringing up excellent points. I am making sure that my husband hears your videos and he is actually beginning to take stock and let go of some things he doesn't use. Thank you!
Thank you Diane for this helpful vlog. I am in the 4 th stage of decluttering. I have sold my family home and moved into smaller condo. Everything was minimum when I moved in but eight years later I am back to the purging stage and happy to be getting rid of things. If daring enough I will be asking for only experiences, meals out or time spent with family and friends as gifts. Only keeping things that are important to me. After my Mom passed, I had the grandchildren in and asked them if the wanted something, one said he wanted nothing, his memories were enough the four girls chose one or two things but the surprise was never in a million years would I have guessed the things they chose. It was things that were meaningful to them alone.
Hi Diane! Thank you for another wonderful video! I hope you reach your subscriber goal. I have been reflecting a lot on what happens with women during our 50’s. I don’t think we are prepared for all the changes. I turned 60 last December and I have been trying to make sense of my 50’s and why I feel so good about turning 60 and how I can finally look forward to the future. During my 50’s all 3 of my children left home for university. They are now productive, happy 30 somethings. My grandmother, father and mother died. My family home as well as my grandparents and great grandparents homes were all sold. My husband and I decided we are not returning to our homeland of eastern Canada and will stay in the southern US. My good health and strength was shaken by autoimmune diseases. It was a lot! I have you to thank, because although I was always neat and tidy , you introduced me to having more of a routine. It helped anchor me during a difficult few years. Thankfully I feel better now and can look forward to the future! There is still so much to learn and experience! Thank you Diane for all you do for so many of us. Please take your time to grieve. Every so often I think Oh! I must call Mum and tell her something or other and then I remember. It has been almost 3 years and I only feel like myself lately. It does get better, and your fitness, friends and family are the key to feeling better.
Diane, you are so on target with your decluttering questions making us do an honest, self-examination about our stuff. I know from my parent's house when they passed away-LESS IS MORE. And my mom decluttered (which I'm grateful for) before her unexpected stroke. Don't be a burden to others with your stuff.
I'm an empty nester with a newly married daughter. The other has her own home. Think I'm in the same stage as you. Really enjoy your videos and encouragement. Your mom is so proud of you. What a wonderful daughter she raised.
Thank you so much for your support , help , kindness and care Diane. You are truly inspiring and a wonderful person. Best wishes with your new life journey ahead 💞
Thank you, Diane! Listening to your cheerful tips on decluttering is my self care today! I live in Florida and we have just gone through 2 back to back hurricanes. We are blessed that almost all people in our area are safe. The losses of cars, homes and property is devastating to see. Helping with clean up makes me realize that I’d much rather declutter things now- So others who don’t have anything have something and because it’s easier to declutter when you’re not pulling your items out of mud and wet debris. So many possessions are now piled in heaps along the roads 😢 With your encouragement and decluttering questions, I’m ready to finish stage 2 and get going on Stage 3! Rah!Rah!Rah!!!❤️👏🎉
I always look at your videos. I love your honesty and positive outlook. I often play your videos when decluttering my own stuff. Thank you for your encouragement
I can see how much you miss your Mom. They are so precious to us and they are a part of us forever. When you described the April Showers statue, it reminded me of a bulldog statue that my Grandmother had in her living room. Unlike your pretty statute, he is not a retry item, but I is just a wonderful reminder of her and of my childhood so I decided to keep it. I still wonder at times why I still want the bulldog statue, but I cannot declutter it no matter how hard I try. 😂
Loved the cozy chat today. Some really excellent advice. Decluttering is very difficult, but looking forward to a more minimalist environment. Have a lovely week ❤
Really enjoyed this Diane - and your question of "would someone else love it more than I do?" is a good one. One idea/thought that I've had in terms of buying things is to tell myself that just because I like it (and can afford it), doesn't mean that I need to own it. Its easy for me to say no to things that are expensive, but when its affordable things (usually decor and kitchen items) then it is so easy to just want to buy it. So I keep reminding myself - just because I like it, doesn't mean I need to own it. The other question I've asked myself when considering a purchase is: "will it solve an existing problem?" I'm great at thinking of ideas of how to use something I see in the stores...but then I ask myself - is that an existing problem that I'm trying to solve? And usually, its not.
Thank you for sharing with us all here. ❤ You have come a long way! And the sentimental stuff for me is always the stumper! I tell myself as I'm still going through mom and dad's stuff, these things are not them. It will not bring them back. It's just stuff (that's what my dear mom called things). We must all remember to take time to simply breathe!!! It's a huge part of sentimental cleaning out. Have a great weekend!! 😊🥳🏊♂️👙🌞
I became a HUGE fan of decluttering last year after having to rush to declutter my in-law’s home to discharge my father-in-law to home instead of a SNF. I had never heard of Swedish Death Cleaning until 2 weeks ago. But I am all for it now, while I have the mental ability to understand the importance.
Diane, thank you, and you are so correct! I also lost my mom, 12 years ago, I was 40, she was 63…. I’ve grown so much since, and what she taught me, was what you said… live and live life, travel, explore, and spend time with your friends and family… after going thru all of her things with my dad, I also purged.. a LOT.. and it felt great!.. much thanks for your wonderful videos, and kind words.. you are certainly cool and chic!!..🙏🤗❤️❤️
I just decluttered my art supplies. Not easy because I’m an artist but I got rid of many dried up supplies and things I haven’t used in years. It feels really good. I hope to refocus my artistic creativity now!
I'm in the situation where my teenage children still live at home but I can see my future life. I've decluttered most of my items, just waiting for the kids to take their stuff. However i must be patient..😊. Thanks you Diane. Watching your video is like sitting down with a friend on video call ❤
Great video Diane 🎉 I find myself back at the starting line every time a life event happens. I've essentially been living at my mom's home for the past 6 months. She's just about to go into her 2nd rehab/nursing home. My home just stays cluttered and messy even with 3 sons to take care of it. The plan is, to fix it up, sell it and move in with mom. I have no time to devote to it, only my mom. This is weighing heavily on me
Hi Lisa, sorry to hear about this stressful season in your life. Try to remember that self-care is also key in the Flylady plan so prioritise 5 minutes for yourself. The biggest tip i got from Diane's videos was to take some items into the calmest space in my home and just focus on those. Once decluttered or organised then grab another handful. It took me weeks but now my home is less cluttered and the mental load of it was gone. Sending thoughts and prayers your way.
A couple of years ago I was watching a video about the Konmari method and about keeping only items that brings me joy. I remember looking at my closet, thinking "Oh, my God I would be naked" 😵💫 I have just heard about Dianne in Denmark and being Danish I had to check it out. I love it ❤️ Aloha from Hawaii 🌺
Thank you for sharing this. My mother, aged almost 99 died in March, closely followed by my brother. Their house was absolutely full of stuff! My sister is very good with getting rid of things so that made it easier. I took lots of old photos from the house and it’s sad that we will never know who these people are, probably old family members so I still need to sort through them. I’m doing a lot of decluttering in my house now so thank you for inspiring me.
You have helped me to tackle a basement full of unused items. Knowing I don’t have to finish it all at once is helpful! I’ve been cleaning items to donate and have pulled 3-4 bags of recycle and trash. Long way to go but it sure does feel good.
This was one of your best videos..in my opinion. 🎉 thanks Diane. I’ve been decluttering for quite a few years now but I know this will be an on going thing especially as we get older & our life changes when we retire. I love the fact that our home is minimal & cosy & everyone that comes to visit always comments on how warm & welcoming it feels. The less I have the happier I become ❤
Thank you for another great video. I’ll definitely be asking myself some of those questions as I clean out the office. Not so funny story you will understand being an asthmatic. We recently had friends to stay and I thought they would be more comfortable in the master bedroom with ensuite. So I slept on a mattress on the floor in the office. I didn’t have time to dust as I’d just returned from a holiday the day before. Result, very bad asthma with a terrible cough. Even had to take steroids. Will be wearing a mask to declutter that room. Sounds terrible but only a few months since it had a good going over. Just too much stuff. Wendy 🇦🇺
I liked how you mentioned that you picked up free things at various swaps after you decluttered. We have a swap shop at our recycling center where I have picked up many free things that I needed. I used to go just to look around, but I stopped going this year because I was so focused on decluttering. Truthfully, I haven't missed not going and I enjoy using the extra time to walk, read, declutter and clean.
Great questions! They will make letting go of things so much easier--as will my style words (which I have for my clothes, but not yet for our home). My husband and I are also planning on moving in the next year, so that makes this decluttering process so important. Thank you for the reminder to let go of the past and keep what I need and love now...and will want for the next chapter in our new home. You're the best!
The Decluttering Questions Hygge is for sure with me! Printed the Decluttering Questions and filed them in my FLCJ 💃🏻 and I also have them saved in my phone. Thank you, Diane!!! 😘
I just love this session and how you walked through the different stages. I’m passing this on to some younger folk in my life and hope they can develop good routines sooner in life than I have. Never too late tho. ❤
My challenge is that i have decluttered what is mine, but hubby has a lot of items. He loves to cook, and has a lot of tools, which he does use. I try to minimize new ite.s coming in. Every new item is another thing to clean and care for!
I wish you were my neighbor! And I wish I had met your mom.... she must have been a fabulous, wonderful lady cuz she raised a fabulous, wonderful, genuine, and heart of gold daughter... YOU!!!!!!
Yes, I am trying to keep my ears tuned to people who would love my stuff! I used to feel guilty and resistant when people might offer me some thing that I admired, but now I understand what was going on. 😊
Always great, Diane! Thanks for the summary and chat. I was at my dad's for the last month, and happily decluttered some of my mum's clothing, food (canned) and items that will no longer be used. Made some lovely donations and cleared several drawers. It has given me a new perspective on my own "stuff" and how I don't want to leave tons of it / that won't be passed to family - let's just start in the underwear/sock drawer! If I'm not loving it or using it, it will be going. I am on this journey with you, thank you for being there. ❤ swish and swipe - just starting in the bathrooms today.
I am so thankful for you! You are truly an inspiration to me and such a positive encouragement in my declutter journey and maintaining my home. It really hit home when you said if our things represent who we are now or are they part of the past we can let go of. Sentimental things are hard but I have some that when I look at them I remember who gave them to me but the items are taking up space. I won’t forget my loved ones if I get rid of the item. To declutter is a journey for sure!
Thanks for you explanations. I agree with the life changes and the decluttering that goes with it, although I don’t like to declutter sentimental things. What to throw, what to keep, decisions, decisions. Love the April statue. You are a real encouragement, thanks again.

So helpful Diane ❤ thank you 🙏🏻
Welcome here! 👏🤩
You are bringing up excellent points. I am making sure that my husband hears your videos and he is actually beginning to take stock and let go of some things he doesn't use. Thank you!
Wonderful, Diane - your hubby is doing so well! Slow and steady wins the race!
My husband is listening as well, same problem.
Having some me time with a mug of tea while watching Diane!
Love this series!!
Dear Diane, you are a wonderful, genuine, CCCperson (Chic, Colorful, Cool🌞) who inspire us all.
Have a wonderful week. With regards, Lily
Thank you!
You are the best Diane…thank you for the thought-provoking questions.
Just subscribed. Love your energy and how full of life you are. So glad I found you!
So sorry to hear about your Mum. Losing our Mothers really gives so much perspective on life.
Thank you Diane, I'm stage 1 while working towards a move.
Love this! Thanks so much ❤
Thank you, Diane!
Listening to your cheerful tips on decluttering is my self care today!
I live in Florida and we have just gone through 2 back to back hurricanes. We are blessed that almost all people in our area are safe. The losses of cars, homes and property is devastating to see. Helping with clean up makes me realize that I’d much rather declutter things now-
So others who don’t have anything have something
and because it’s easier to declutter when you’re not pulling your items out of mud and wet debris. So many possessions are now piled in heaps along the roads 😢
With your encouragement and decluttering questions, I’m ready to finish stage 2 and get going on Stage 3!
Rah!Rah!Rah!!!❤️👏🎉
🎉🎉🎉 you’re the best, Diane!
I always look at your videos. I love your honesty and positive outlook. I often play your videos when decluttering my own stuff. Thank you for your encouragement
a good piece for the Antiques Roadshow!
🎉❤watching this as me time this morning as have the day off. I am 50 today! 🎉❤ Embracing it as seen too many relatives young. Celebrate every day 🎉❤🎉
I can see how much you miss your Mom. 😂
Diane, you are such a lovely human being that I'm not surprised that you have such loving friendships. Take care.
What a dream! Visited Copenhagen last year with my husband and best friend and we all loved the people, our experiences and the energy there 💕
So glad you enjoyed your visit, next time take a dip in the harbour! 👋😃
I’ve been “Big Stitching” a quilt block while watching. Thank you for another video. 😊
Oh, well done, Alyssa - that must have been tough but I'm sure you are feeling brilliant on the other side of it!
You’re the best Diane. Thank you for another relevant video for helping us live our best lives. 💞🤸🏼♀️
Excellent visit❤Thank you.
So nice to havea cozy chat take care Diane ❤
Some great questions to ask myself & tips to take away thank you Diane. Lovely to hear about your dear mum 💕
Love your channel!
"such a good network of friends" That says it all! That's what it's really all about isn't it? 😺 Ate breakfast while watching.
Rah rah rah! Loved the chat Diane! 💕
Having coffee while folding laundry and listening to you. Thank you Diane!
Enjoy, Ruthie!
Diane, this is one of the best videos you’ve ever done.❤
Thank you, Diane! Looking forward and climbing your mountains with a smile. You are an inspiration!
Yes you have hit on so much that hits home!
I'm in the situation where my teenage children still live at home but I can see my future life. I've decluttered most of my items, just waiting for the kids to take their stuff. However i must be patient..😊. Thanks you Diane. Watching your video is like sitting down with a friend on video call ❤
Bless you Diane. I love your Outwood processing. All this grief. So healthy. Thanks for all your help and advice xx
Great video Diane 🎉
I find myself back at the starting line every time a life event happens. This is weighing heavily on me
Sending a hug, Lisa - just keep looking for the tiny things that you can do!
@christineneill9743 thank you 😊
Great video. Thanks Diane.
A couple of years ago I was watching a video about the Konmari method and about keeping only items that brings me joy.
I remember looking at my closet, thinking "Oh, my God I would be naked" 😵💫
I have just heard about Dianne in Denmark and being Danish I had to check it out.
I love it ❤️
Aloha from Hawaii 🌺
Welcome here, Majlis!

Your strength and resilience is wonderful to see Diane 😊
Dear Diane, thanks for this thought-provoking video! Shared with all my friends))
